Republican Civil War as Trump Attacks the Surrender Caucus

Surrender Caucus

Never Forget

In that Tweet Trump went after Senator Tom Cotton, one of his staunchest allies. Even Cotton has had enough.

Civil War Lines

The Wall Street Journal accurately comments the Lines Are Drawn for a Republican Civil War

Mr. Trump is setting up this week as a dramatic test of loyalty to him in the form of his last-ditch effort to overturn the victory of President-elect Joe Biden, and his core supporters will be rallying in Washington to underscore the point. Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Ted Cruz of Texas, who aspire to lead the Trump army whenever Mr. Trump isn’t there to do so himself, have engineered a scenario in which each of their colleagues will have to go on record either favoring or opposing the president’s effort to reverse the election.

Meantime, the party’s broader splits are coming to the surface. The president rang in the New Year by tweeting that his party’s second-ranking senator, Mr. Thune, who has an 85% lifetime congressional-vote approval rating from the American Conservative Union, should be unseated by one of the president’s personal favorites, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.

Mr. Trump essentially ran for president in 2016 as an independent populist, with no use for a Republican establishment that largely opposed him. Upon prevailing, he turned the party away from traditional conservative principles of free trade, lower government spending and limited executive authority and toward more of a working-class agenda.

Now, with the Trump presidency near its end, the inevitable struggle over which path the party takes from here is under way.

Trump Attacks Senator Thune

Rule Number One

One is never allowed to disagree with Trump on literally anything.

Understanding Ted Cruz

Trump’s core followers include Senator Ted Cruz who without a doubt understands the actions Trump has taken are unwise, unconstitutional, and will split the party.

Why?

Ted Cruz must believe this is his chance to lead the Republican party. Tom Cotton was in the battle until he could take it no more.

Meanwhile, in Georgia

Here are some interesting comments from Georgia Republicans as reported by CNN.

  • “That phone call did absolutely nothing to help, you know, drive turnout for Republicans here in Georgia, for Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue,” Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan told CNN. “I was disappointed and quite honestly, I can’t imagine anyone on that staff encouraging that call or not giving him the advice to hang up and move on to the next subject.”
  • “No one has any rational reason to believe it will go well,” said one Georgia Republican. “The likelihood of a total, complete, absolute shit show is off the charts. If disaster is avoided, it will be sheer dumb luck.”

Regarding point #1: Asking an election official to “find” (manufacture) votes is a clear a case of election fraud.

Also regarding point #1: It takes a lawyer to file a lawsuit. This suit is completely without foundation.

In Georgia, the recording of a conversation is legal is one party to the conversation consents. And it is admissible at trial. Raffensperger is completely in the right.

There should be disciplinary action against Trump’s lawyers for filing the lawsuit.

Regarding point #2: Trump’s antics are increasingly likely to cost Republicans both Senate seats in Georgia. See the link for more details.

Trump is a master of intrigue and manipulation. The smartest man in the northern hemisphere. A shining intellect. Clearly he is a Democrat double agent executing a cunning plan to destroy the Repubs while appearing to be a narcissist buffoon

Trump is just the living version of a human archetype……being summoned into existence by a particular tribe in a time of great stress.

Mythology

Tricksters, as archetypal characters, appear in the myths of many different cultures

. Lewis Hyde describes the trickster as a “boundary-crosser”.[1] The trickster crosses and often breaks both physical and societal rules: Tricksters “violate principles of social and natural order, playfully disrupting normal life and then re-establishing it on a new basis.”[2]

Often, this bending/breaking of rules takes the form of tricks or thievery. Tricksters can be cunning or foolish or both. The trickster openly questions, disrupts or mocks authority. They are often male characters, and are fond of breaking rules, boasting, and playing tricks on both humans and gods.[citation needed]

Many cultures have tales of the trickster, a crafty being who uses cunning to get food, steal precious possessions, or simply cause mischief. In some Greek myths Hermes plays the trickster. He is the patron of thieves and the inventor of lying, a gift he passed on to Autolycus, who in turn passed it on to Odysseus.[1] In Slavic folktales, the trickster and the culture hero are often combined.[citation needed]

Loki cuts the hair of the goddess Sif.

Frequently the trickster figure exhibits gender and form variability. In Norse mythology the mischief-maker is Loki, who is also a shape shifter. Loki also exhibits gender variability, in one case even becoming pregnant. He becomes a mare who later gives birth to Odin’s eight-legged horse Sleipnir.

In a wide variety of African-language communities, the rabbit, or hare, is the trickster. In West Africa (and thence into the Caribbean via the slave trade), the spider (Anansi) is often the trickster.[3]

Archetype

The trickster or clown is an example of a Jungian archetype.

In a way the last four years reminds me of the mid 90’s in CA with Pete Wilson and prop 187. The backlash affects CA politics to this day. The coming backlash against the Republican party will be similar I suspect unless a very powerful smart leader arises among the Republicans. I don’t see anyone yet, possibly a popular public figure. Was thinking Mark Cuban at one point but nah.

Trump has obviously been preparing for the war against Iran for almost 4 years now. The way it’s progressing in the last couple of months has been alarming. He has 16 days to complete the mission and things are looking to be right at the brink.

In search of the philosophers’ stone, or the pot o’ gold, or hobbits…

Something they were told of as true, but of which there is no evidence of…

This statement from @LouDobbs pretty much sums up where we are right now.

“Eight weeks from the election and we still don’t have verifiable, tangible support for the crimes that everyone knows were committed… we have had a devil of a time finding actual proof.”

There’s been virtually no discovery of evidence or subpoena’s for what is public property. If the access to data and ballot (images) was open, a lot more could come out. Many of the data anomalies are unexplainable (such as perfectly parallel decline slopes in down-voting in various districts, or decrements in counts; and indeed, explanations have not been forthcoming) whereas others defy the limits of probability. Most crimes go unsolved, and certainly good crimes never are.

The biggest liar of all time says something, and you immediately believe it, without proof and without evidence, and the least trace of what would have been an immense effort to defraudstill remains unsubstantiated–it says a lot about who you are.

I don’t even know why Trump wants to be POTUS anymore, must be the rallies and photo ops. Other than soaking up attention, he golfs and levies sanctions. That’s really about it.

Someday, after the Trump fans have cooled off and have a chance to reflect, they’ll realize the pity that the one candidate who crashed the red/blue monopoly from the outside was an incredibly lazy narcissist. Good at stirring up support at rallies, but a terrible leader.

Maybe this will lead to the end of the 2 party system. Trump can have his populist party the dems can keep siphoning off money while claiming they are saving the greater good and the republicans can find their libertarian wing. I know that might be wishful thinking but if that happens I might thank Trump. We might have 10 or so years of chaos in there during the transition but it would be worth it.

I agree. I never thought Trump would be a good president but I wanted him to go in and expose things most people do not realize what happens. How politics are now pay to play.

When the Koch Brothers did not invite him to their Republican2016 presidential candidate policy setting meeting where they invited the top 5 to 7 s candidates, I knew I would vote for him in 2017.

We would have never known about all sketchy things that happens in Washington. Trump brought a lot out on twitter. It makes him look bad but I have a feeling a lot of things he talked about publicly went on behind closed doors in the past.

We would have never know about the conflict of interest deals of Hunter Biden and Hillary/Bill. Everyone already new Trumps bankruptcy past.

We would have not seen the real side of Nancy Pelosi or Mitch McConnel. A lot of political shenanigan’s have been revealed in the press that would have never occurred before. IMHO…Neither party has anything to be proud about regarding 2020. I know people who voted for Trump in 2020 only because it was a non-Biden vote. They probably would have voted for any other Democratic candidate. Yet you are labeled crazy here. Some people don’t believe that a person who has been in congress for 40 years can change there ways. Same old…same old…where wall street is top priority and main street is not. This not only applies to Biden but Pelosi and McConnel and Rand

I sure hope the 2020 election boondongle helps springboard a new party.

Why yes. As of late, the deep state has not been operating in stealth mode via subterfuges. The clumsy and totalitarian manipulation of the narrative and their interests are out their in open view.
Trump himself hasn’t done much of a job of getting anything out in the open. He is too dumb to do anything competently and obviously has an unrealistic view of the world, economics, and the political dynamics that he has become enmeshed in.

On the negative side how would you feel if Trump had won and the cause was the Jo Jorgensen siphoning off enough Joe Biden votes to make the difference?

Trump is scared of losing his Presidential immunity and delusional perhaps having gaslit himself into believing his own election claims.

It was always going to end this way. Trump is a narcissist. He cares nothing about the GOP. It’s about Fuhrerprinzip.

I guess my question is how long can Trump get away with his shit-stirring.? Once the inauguration comes, and he’s finally out, will we have to listen to his ridiculous Tweets for 4 more years?

Will he have rallies every month somewhere? As he raises money to…..do what? Pay his lawyers?

He is definitely of the opinion that the more he keeps telling the same lies, the more people believe them. I’m not sure how much more Trump BS the country can take.

If Trump thinks he is going to prison he will likely flee the country and set up Trump TV in Russia.

A previous poster here thinks there’s nothing in it for Putin to host Trump. I disagree. It would be RT on steroids that has a ready built fan base in the US.

Wouldn’t an M1 increase, in general, effect most asset prices? I say that because I bought some gold with my stimulus check. I also bought some stocks and some durable goods. I did not need the stimulus so it was used as discretionary cash.

Gold rising today. Look at the M1 money supply. How do we not start seeing some serious inflation? Add another 1 trillion to this with the current stimulus and we doubled the M1 supply in 1 year. The M1 supply has increased from 1.5 trillion in 2010 to probably 8 trillion now.
