A presidential election might be a big deal, but in postal terms, it’s no Christmas. The Postal Service processes nearly 500 million pieces of mail every day, and it annually handles more than 3 billion pieces in the week before Christmas alone. “I don’t worry about their capacity,” Amber McReynolds, the former director of elections in Denver, who now runs the National Vote at Home Institute, a mail-balloting advocacy group, told me.
According to a memo published by The Washington Post, whose authenticity was verified by the American Postal Workers Union, postal employees are now instructed to leave mail behind at the post office rather than make extra trips or wait for a delayed truck—a directive that amounts to a sea change for men and women trained, in the words of one union official, that “when the mail comes in, the mail goes out.” The agency is also cutting back overtime, even though as many as 40,000 postal workers have been quarantined or out sick because of the coronavirus. The changes have already led to complaints about delayed deliveries across the country, and the potential effects on the collection and delivery of ballots in the days before the election is obvious.

“There is no plausible way for Donald Trump or Joe Biden to get to 270 electoral votes without Pennsylvania,” he said.

Voting by mail isn’t new. Trump’s the boss, if he thought it was subject to Fraud, why hasn’t he fixed it? He’s had plenty of time to do it.
Absentee voting isn’t new, but blindly mailing ballots to everyone on the rolls is new. The boss is calling this out and forbidding it as a measure to fix the potential for fraud.
If someone moves residence to a different district or state, there’s absolutely nothing to guarantee a ballot won’t show up at their previous residence and will be received by whoever is living there. There’s little to discourage someone from fraudulently casting that ballot, as getting caught seems to be next to impossible. Showing up to multiple voting areas or non-citizens showing up at voting areas seems a lot more daring.
Mish, why are you so anti-Trump? Do you really think there’s a better alternative? Do you not agree that the election can be compromised by all sides involved? Why do you single out Trump? And, with all due respect, enough of your Fed-bashing.

You think it’s Pres. Trump? It’s your friends the democrats. Hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for covid-19 in the early stages, but no; they want people to keep getting sick so they can pocket lobbying fees from pharma’s all the meanwhile showing how “bad” Pres. Trump is.

No, he didn’t; the country had a good 3.5 years with him as president. You have no idea how much corruption he’s caused to fall and how many lives of people have been changed for the better. If it’s dim for you, turn up the lights.

My prediction: Trump will try everything between now until election by sometime in late September he will go too far and Republicans will be forced to call him out publicly and impeach him. The pressure on McConnell is building more already. Trump is going to cost the Republicans the Senate. Any moderate Republican is going to get replaced by a Democrat for sure if they are up for reelection. Are Republicans okay with hijacking the election for their own party ? Can they not even win a legitimate election anymore so they have to channel Putin ?
The GOP Senators own this. They had their chance during the impeachment trial, and they voted to not even call witnesses.

The main power bloc of the ‘governed’ are not the voters but the professional classes in both private and public sectors. Most intelligence work is done by contract in the private sector; academics; government agencies; diplomatic corps; chambers of commerce; media.

That way, demented stand-for-nothing Democrats, the most morally bankrupt party in the country’s history who can only run by inciting chaos and fear, won’t end up taking the prize and selling everything out to oligarchic cabals, a process under way for decades now but accelerating greatly of late. The America First agenda is anathema to that trajectory. They will resume the takeover/sellout and ensure it is irreversible this time with the next puppet UniParty President.
I nominate Flynn and Cotton to run on a campaign pledging to drain the swamp and fire at least 75% of the people now working in the USG, and all of the Brenner-run CIA contractor ops, and move the capital out of DC. Detroit needs an uplift.

It’s really sad but Trump may have made the case that the U.S. need U.N. election monitors to protect us from Trump’s own election interference.
So that they can arbitrarily deem and find and decide that “in these particular circumstances”, what he did was a-ok?
Instead of relying on arbitrary privileged actors, focus needs to be on a publicly verifiable protocol which itself preserves both integrity and maximal anonymity. Of course, doing so, requires people competent enough to be able to count and stuff. Not just arbitrarily opining, blowharding, deeming, finding and deciding.
Preserving Integrity and anonymity in a protocol is ultimately a cryptographic problem. But, cryptography is hard. Both to grasp and to fake. Which is why the privileged mediocrities The Fed has handed all resources and power to, are busy vilifying it: They neither have the aptitude to comprehend any of it, nor want to give up their privilege to arbitrarily deem and find what “the facts” are, nor who the junta’s guns should be pointed at.

Trump can’t point to any past mail-in election fraud. He just claims the potential for fraud. In fact there are no examples of systemic voter fraud via mail in ballot. Ironically the one case of systemic election fraud occurred in North Carolina and it was carried out by Republicans.
In the weeks that followed, though, state officials uncovered a number of peculiar patterns among mail-in ballots: In all but one of the district’s counties, McCready won handily among these absentee voters, by 16 points. But in Bladen County, he lost by a whopping 24 points. Journalists discovered that the same names appeared on many of these absentee ballots as “witnesses,” and listed the same one-bedroom apartment as their address
The answer, it turned out, involved one Leslie McRae Dowless Jr., a longtime fixture of Bladen County politics who worked as a contractor for Mark Harris’s campaign. And Dowless, it turned out, paid a team to go door-to-door in mostly rural areas, collect unfinished absentee ballots from unsuspecting voters, and bring them to him for completion. In a series of sworn affidavits, witnesses stated that Dowless described himself as “doing absentee” for Harris, and bragged that he was being paid in cash.
What Trump is doing is engaging in voter suppression. Legally I don’t know how one asks for relief from an injustice that has yet to happen and in all honesty is a fabrication.
