Captured! The 60 Minutes Venezuela Video CBS Tried to Cancel

This is an amazing story of incompetence and graft at 60 Minutes.

BREAKING: Here’s the 60 Minutes Segment Trump and CBS News Executives Don’t Want You to See by Yashar Ali @ The Reset.

Hours before it was set to air last night, CBS News executives pulled the segment, but Canada’s Global TV app received it prior to broadcast.

Yesterday, CBS News pulled a story titled “Inside CECOT” just hours before it was set to air.

The report examined the Trump administration’s controversial deportation of more than 250 people — most of them Venezuelan nationals — to CECOT, a sprawling prison in El Salvador where detainees were held under severe conditions. The segment featured interviews with deportees who described brutal treatment and alleged abuse inside the facility.

The decision to pull the story was made by CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss, and it triggered a firestorm within the network and, subsequently, in the public. Here’s some info on the controversy and when I update this story shortly, I will link to additional reporting, but I wanted to publish this video immediately as a version of it was taken down on YouTube.

It turns out that the network delivered the segment to Canada’s Global TV app (it has since been pulled).

As I understand it, this is only part of the overall story, but this 13-minute-long video— sent to me by a source —is what exists.

Please click on the link above to play the video. If you are wearing a MAGA hat, do yourself a favor and play the video anyway.

Reader Comment to Reset News

One of the things I just don’t get is how CBS or 60 minutes will ever regain their credibility. The entire reason that 60 minutes exists used to be that it was willing to speak truth to power. Now that it has shown itself too cowardly to do so, it serves absolutely no purpose. I’m sure CBS, just like the Washington Post, will continue to do some good work. But they have shredded all the trust the 60 minutes viewer ever had. Network news has been in sharp decline and I used to care. Now it’s good riddance, and to hell with you.

I am going to make a donation to Yashar Ali.

Inside Bari Weiss’s Decision to Pull a ‘60 Minutes’ Segment

For more background on what happened, the Wall Street Journal fills in some pieces with its post Inside Bari Weiss’s Decision to Pull a ‘60 Minutes’ Segment

CBS News Editor in Chief Bari Weiss had a tough message for the executive producer of “60 Minutes” on Saturday: She had decided to hold a segment that was set to run the next day.

The story focused on a maximum-security prison in El Salvador where the Trump administration sent hundreds of Venezuelan migrants, including alleged gang members. Weiss said the piece would be better served by further attempts at interviews and another voice in it, according to a transcript of executive producer Tanya Simon’s Monday meeting with “60 Minutes” staff where she recounted the events.

“It was not a ‘let’s talk about this’ kind of thing,” Simon told staff. She also said she had a good relationship with Weiss, according to the transcript, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

CBS News had sought—and received—responses from the Department of Homeland Security, the White House and the State Department, according to people familiar with the matter. The segment, which was available to some viewers in Canada and seen by the Journal, didn’t include the fresh comments those agencies provided.

Sharyn Alfonsi, the correspondent on the piece, called the editor in chief’s decision political in a weekend email to colleagues.

“Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct,” Alfonsi wrote to a group of colleagues including Anderson Cooper and Lesley Stahl.

CBS advertised “INSIDE CECOT” on Friday, teasing Alfonsi’s interviews with some of the deported migrants who had since been released from the megaprison and described harsh conditions.

Weiss said in the email that it was important to make “every effort” to get “the principals” on the record and on camera and that she’d shared phone numbers for Stephen Miller and Tom Homan.

Alfonsi took issue with those requests in her email. “If the standard for airing a story becomes ‘the government must agree to be interviewed,’ then the government effectively gains control over the 60 Minutes broadcast. We go from an investigative powerhouse to a stenographer for the state,” the correspondent wrote.

CBS’s “60 Minutes” has been a popular target of Trump’s ire.

Over the summer—before federal regulators approved the merger between Paramount Global and Ellison’s Skydance Media—Paramount agreed to pay $16 million to settle a 2024 lawsuit in which Trump accused the network of deceitfully editing then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s “60 Minutes” interview.

On Friday, Trump said at a rally in North Carolina that while “I love the new owners of CBS,” he was unhappy with “60 Minutes.”

You can also play the video here.

Sharyn Alfonsi’s Email to 60 Minutes

Oops An Accident

For some reason this won’t embed: https://x.com/David_J_Bier/status/2003291409802260727?s=20

“The canceled 60 Minutes report included an interview with a man who entered legally and never violated any laws but was nonetheless rendered to El Salvador for torture without due process. No wonder they canceled it.”

This administration is corrupt, disgusting, and immoral from head to toe. Trump is not fighting the deep state, he is the deep state.

Not well-reported,
“The more than 200 Venezuelan migrants who were deported by the Trump administration to El Salvador’s mega-prison in March have left El Salvador to be sent to Venezuela as part of a prisoner swap that included (ten) Americans being held in Venezuela,”

Have you ever been inside a maximum security prison? See, I have.

Because of that, I take what is said with the proverbial ‘grain of salt.’
When I hear… “I was just a poor student who wanted to blah blah blah,” this is exactly what I would expect to hear. The feeble reporter was disgraceful. Soft questions get spongy answers. How many did she confront with the facts of their US crime spree? Eg. Is it true you buggered a nine-year-old boy? No way will 60Mins ask that question of a prisoner.

How many max security prisoners are guilty? None, apparently. I’ve met one–in the maximum security section of a maximum security prison. He is kept in solitary, with no human contact, and no outside time. Sounds cruel, doesn’t it. He escaped twice, killed two guards, went home and beheaded his parents. He also fabricated a working pistol and several knifes while incarcerated.

So, the IMPORTANT question. Did Venezuela want them back? Because that’s important.

Admittedly, my experience is sparse. However, I know enough to recognize BRAIN-WASHING by the media.

60 Minutes wanted to run a story about Group X (the White House), without including comment from Group X. It was an unethical violation of basic journalistic standards of the variety outlined by Bill Moyers.

But so much of the media has been operating without these traditional guidelines, for so long, it seems shocking when someone actually enforces those standards rather than engaging in partisan scorekeeping and gotcha journalism.

Mish is completely missing the larger context here, and doesn’t even mention why the 60 Minutes segment was postponed.

This has nothing to do with Trump. Zero. It has everything to do with 60 Minutes dropping the ball, again.

Really, this is what you are going with? So, in your mind, a journalist cannot run a well-researched, well-sourced story about decisions coming out of the inner circle of the Executive Branch of government unless someone from that inner circle agrees to be interviewed? Maybe someone should have told Woodward and Bernstein this in the early 70s?

You wouldn’t know ‘research’ if it hit you in the face!

I’ve had indirect exposure to 60 mins. It was known as the Cincinnati Bell Wiretap Case. BTW, I was in court when the Federal Ct judge turned to the wire-tapper and said: “Mr Gates, to this time, by my calculation, you have perjured yourself 83 times…”
60 Minutes believed every word from Mr. Gates.

Ugly to see how many so-called Americans don’t understand the first thing about due process and the law.

Our laws and procedures exist to protect all of us. By the time those morons figure it out through lived experience, it will be too late. It’s always these idiots cheering it on until they’re crying about it when it happens to them.

You are either on the side of following the Constitution and the laws on the books, or you are not. It is not that hard to understand. You seem to be saying, without actually coming out and saying it, that you actually had no problem with Donald Trump opening the door to terminating the Constitution with his 2022 statement about the “fraud” that took place in the 2020 election where he suggested that he supported “termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution“. This is further proof that Donald Trump operates in a world of his own making where the ends justify all means. I contend, with excellent historical backing, that an ends-justify-the-means approach to leadership is precisely the opposite of what the Constitution stands for and what our founders envisioned for the nation.

Is this the same due process you applied to the release of the Epstein files?

“Our laws and procedures exist to protect all of us.”

Tell that to the old woman who was hit in the eye by a ‘nice gentlemen’ using a piece of wood with a screw out the end. That was a few days ago, but not reported on most mass media, or here. His arrest record speaks for itself. And the cops on the scene–well the LIBERAL courts have tied their hands.

Let’s hope that a similar ‘nice gentleman’ does the same to you? Since you clearly think it was acceptable behavior, not worth reporting, until someone LEAKED the truth.

I don’t see Bari Weiss’s decision as political at all. She is trying to get the news division to be a news division and not a partisan (not credible) source. In the old days 60min would tell the story and get both sides. You felt like you got the full picture. The fact that they did not want to get the other side of the argument shows that it was an unbalanced hit piece. Bari wants the public to trust CBS news so she had to pull the story. Is she the only journalist left?

What is an “illegal”? Were the Jewish, Slavic, and African people fleeing Nazi-controlled areas of Europe “illegals”? Were the men, women, and children fleeing war-torn Iraq and Syria to the safety of Europe “illegals”? I am not saying that I don’t want everyone who wants to immigrate to the United States for work and a better life to come here through official ports of entry, but we all know that that process is antiquated and broken. We have more demand for immigrant workers and an ample supply. Let’s fix the system and make it easier, quicker, and more efficient for those who come here to work and build a better life.

You may be able to find edited statements that appear to support what you are contending that Obama and Hillary have said on the issue, but when I asked AI to find such statements, here is what I got:

Neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama has specifically used the phrase “illegal aliens should be convicted and deported” as a general policy for all undocumented immigrants. Both have supported deporting individuals who have been convicted of serious crimes, such as violent felonies or terrorism, but they have generally advocated for a pathway to citizenship or legal status for the majority of undocumented immigrants who are law-abiding and integrated into their communities.

Barack Obama’s Stance

  • Focus on Criminals: President Obama’s administration prioritized the deportation of individuals who posed a threat to public safety or national security. In a 2014 address, he stated, “If you’re a criminal, you’ll be deported”.
  • Deportation Numbers: The Obama administration did deport a large number of immigrants (nearly 3 million removals occurred during his presidency), a point often used by critics.
  • Executive Action: Obama pursued executive actions, such as DACA and DAPA, to shield millions of undocumented immigrants with ties to the U.S. (like parents of U.S. citizens) from deportation, focusing enforcement efforts elsewhere.

Hillary Clinton’s Stance

  • Prioritized Violent Criminals: During her 2016 presidential campaign, Clinton stated her priorities were to deport “violent criminals, terrorists, and anyone who threatens our safety”.
  • Opposed Mass Deportation: She explicitly opposed mass deportations of the 11-12 million undocumented immigrants already in the U.S., calling such a policy impractical and inhumane.
  • Due Process: Clinton emphasized the need for deportations to be handled humanely and with due process, criticizing raids on families as not reflective of American values.
  • Pathway to Legalization: In a 2008 debate, Clinton outlined her support for a path to legalization for law-abiding undocumented immigrants who pay fines and back taxes, a position she maintained later in her career. She stated that “If they had committed a crime, then they should be deported. But for everyone else, there must be a path to legalization”.

So those Democrats 17 years ago are saying exactly what a lot of Americans and anyone other than a democrat is saying today.
They got bribed thats what changed. You see the Clinton Foundation was a fraud, it was not some right wing conspiracy theory. It was pay to play. Funny how once Hillary lost that foundation went away isn’t it? Every time a Democrat gets caught its always a right wing nazi conspiracy.
And the Biden crime family, oh good Lord. But no, thats never talked about either. But hey, get rid of Trump and problem solved right?

All of the ones that I know work hard, several have started their own business, and many have successful, college-educated children.

I first came to the US 48 years ago for graduate study, legally. I returned, legally, 45 years ago, but only after intervention by the US Speaker of the House, Tip O’Neill, and a letter of approval from my government. On my several visits to the US Consulate, there were always dozens of people waiting in line to get immigration visas.
Personally, I resent people who skip the line, whose first act is to violate the laws of the USA by entering illegally, or who use political asylum as the excuse for economic migration. Most come to take advantage of the US.
Over the years, I’ve known other migrants. All have brought unique /valuable skills to the US. Some experienced great difficulty in leaving their home country, including swimming rivers with a baby, worrying about him crying when they passed border controls and Soviet guards. Most were not allowed to enter the US and had to go via admission to England or Canada, and then get work permits in the US.

well the illegal immigratns coming in now are almost all migrants, not legit refugees unlike those fleeing the Nazis.

they are coming here because their countries suck, not because they are being persecuted for their ethnicity. most illegal immigrants are from central and south America and aren’t real refugees. gangs and high crime rate isn’t a basis for asylum, nor should it be.

even for actual refugees we need a limit. there’s too many war and conflct zones in the world, and we should have a system, not what the Dems had where anyne can come in with caravans.

From a marketing branding perspective, 60 Minutes has been a train wreck for decades. The show should have been canned in the early 2000s, but like most things in media, trust eroded and it became a bigger and bigger joke.

Trump just stated on X all illegals convicted or charged pending court hearings for the offenses of rape, sodomy, larceny, assault, weapons possession, child abuse, pedophilia and domestic violence will now be moved into hotels and free to roam at the following locations:
CT-Wesport, Southport, Darien, Greenwich & New Canaan
NY- Scarsdale, Rye, Bronxville, Bedford & Chappaqua
NJ-Short Hills, Saddle River, Alpine
MA- Wellesley,Lexington, Sherborn, Boston, Nantucket & Cape Cod
VT- Stratton Mountain,Shelburne, Dorset
VA- Great Falls, McClean, Upperville
CO- Aspen, Columbine Valley ,Cherry Hills Village
MN- Sunfish Lake, Minnetonk Beach

Other states are pending

I know so far that (correct me if I’m wrong):
— They were given the opportunity (and ample time) to deport themselves back to Venezuela before they were captured.
— The specific ones were either gang members or misc. criminals. About half a million have been deported, yet only a couple of hundred were sent to El Salvador.

Why is the magnifying glass of many journalists on them, instead of ordinary citizens been unfairly treated? The latter are too boring and you guys need more drama?

Releasing prisoners and sending them to other countries (when your economy can’t support them) was witnessed by my fellow border soldiers since 1988. Albania was releasing all its prisoners and they were the only ones allowed to exit the country (through openings in fences) and “escape” to Greece. We were authorized to shoot them if they wouldn’t stop to our commands. This was standard practice in European countries bordering communist countries. None was shot because not the entire borderline was guarded, but afterwards, border towns, especially in the Ionian islands, saw them coming as some sort of refugees by boats or even ordinary passenger ships from the mainland. That was before the NGOs had turned into human trafficking operations. Violent crime went from practically zero to staggering numbers almost overnight.
Americans have no experience with this “open the jails and release them” practice, they politicize it wrongly, and then suffer the consequences which mainstream media ignores as not being “sexy” enough for views and clicks, and definitely not appropriate for advertisers.
We need border guards a lot tougher than the current ones, straight out of cold war era practices.

This is EXCELLENT news! Finally accountability. If you take out a loan then you are required to pay it back. I’m also glad this will hurt these peoples credit. Hope they have a hard time getting a mortgage, car loan, credit card or rent an apartment. I’m tired of people taking advantage of tax payers. Hope they all learn a lesson.

In general, if an American takes out a loan from the government, and they, for whatever reason, don’t have the money to pay it back, they don’t have to pay it back. It can be discharged.

The star witness admits on screen he tried to come here in 2024 under Biden, was stopped by Border Patrol (who were letting almost everyone in at the time) and told he was a gang member and danger to society so he could not enter the US. Yet somehow Trump is to blame.

He was held in custody by ICE until the group of other alleged TdA “terrorists” were removed from the country. We used to send “terrorists” to Gitmo, not back to their country of origin where they would be released to commit further acts of terrorism. Nothing to see here but chitposting.

To put it bluntly Immigration is a mess and we all know it. It is not about sending back illegal immigrants and you know it. It is about sending people to a terrible prison and torture without even due process. The consequence is that innocent people get shipped and tortured too, even if you believe that illegal immigrants deserve that treatment.

And of course, without due process there is no reason why anyone, including yourself, could not end up like that, say by mistake. How would one fight the mistake without due process?

Sure. You also avoided the point about due process, and how without it, noone is safe from the government. No .
First of all there are convicted felons from the country that they came from. Yes some of these people are convicted elsewhere and now here. We already let convicted criminals into the country. They go first. That ok with you?

Then we have the illegals that get convicted here.So you are saying those that are convicted here can stay or get deported to?

Now we get to the illegals doing human trafficking like the previous clown celebrity. We can at least remain him in jail is that ok? Of course all his legal bills will be paid by you me and everyone here. So you ok with that douche bag sitting in jail? If not can we send him to a hotel in your neighborhood because I do not want him in my neighborhood. If not your neighborhood or mine you tell me where do we put him? We just let him roam around anywhere unchecked? do you care where?
And the other 500,000 estimated criminals, thats like 1% of the illegals that apparently your ex president let in the country the last 4 years so dont tell me there are not at least that many.
Where do they go? They just get to roam around free too? Can we put any of them in your neighborhood? Where do they go?
And were you one of the many here thinking there was no border problem it was you know just those racist white right wing republicans? Then it was dont worry we got it under control. That went to how dare you send those Texas illegals to the affluent liberal towns Until you couldnt hide the live bodies anymore.
Enlighten me please on how you are going to solve this problem that I am guessing the party you voted for created this on steriods.

The United States used to strive to differentiate our nation and society from totalitarian countries around the world through our actions. We celebrated our free press, our innocent-until-proven-guilty legal system, and our dedication to protecting human rights for all (criminals and non-criminals alike). Under Donald Trump, we now seem to be embracing the tactics of totalitarian leaders around the world when it comes to controlling the press, violating human rights, usurping the rule of law for convenience, and economically embracing protectionist policies such as tariffs and having the government take equity stakes in private enterprises.

The diversion of Venezuelan illegals to El Salvador is a violation of their rights. I’m assuming the idea was that a) imprisoning these persons here would be a time-consuming and expensive effort, b) returning them to Venezuela would simply see them show up at the border in 6 weeks time, so we need to do something as a deterrent and c) we can outsource imprisonment to El Salvador at a lower cost.

I’m for imprisoning these persons here for a period of time commensurate with whatever other laws they may have broken and been convicted of, and then deporting them back to Venezuela or wherever they came from. If we’re worried about costs, then why don’t we simply adopt a chainless version of the classic chain gang and have them perform public service works around the country at federal lands and facilities: repair trails at national parks, build new service roads in national forests, or something that keeps them occupied and working for the national benefit.

No, they were “otherized” like we are doing to immigrants who crossed into the United States without proper documentation, claimed amnesty, and were following the legal process that is in place for amnesty claims. How do you suppose someone from another country that is being persecuted or otherwise endangered leaves that country and ends up in the U.S.? Do you think that they apply for visas, go through border control in their country to leave, and then drive or fly to an official port of entry at their destination country? Also, by the way, Hitler was imprisoned, enslaved, sterilized, and killed groups of people other than Jewish persons. Those groups included those who were of Polish or other “Slavic” countries, the disabled, political opponents, homosexuals, and black people.

The rule of law, due process, and the innocent until proven guilty apply to all on U.S. soil. So, you are illustrating why Benjamin Franklin said that we have our democratic Republic, if we can keep it. You demonstrate the thinking he saw as the reason our Constitutional Republic will be hard to preserve. You do not know the virtue of our rule of law and justice system that is built upon the ideal that you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. This ideal, which we have always abided by, guarantees that guilty people will go free so that almost no innocent people will be found guilty and punished. The system is designed to be imperfect in identifying the guilty to protect the innocent. You probably do not like that because it will be harder to convict a guilty person and exact punishment. Someone like you needs to understand that that part of our Constitution provided these protections to persons, not citizens. What that means is that any PERSON in the United States falls under these protections and this rule of law, not just persons. If you have a problem with this, you do not have a problem with Liberals; you have a problem with the Constitution itself.

I said nothing of the sort, David. You made up a question as a Straw man to attack me with, then you said that i’m either a liar or misinformed based on your made up straw man question.

What kind of human being attacks another human beings integrity (called me a liar) or attack my intelligence (ability to gain information) based off of 4 sentences.

David, also I wanted to share with that immigrants commit crimes lest then the native Americans.

https://docs.house.gov/meetings/JU/JU01/20250122/117827/HHRG-119-JU01-20250122-SD004.pdf

non documented immigrants commit crimes roughly at 65% less the rate of the native usa population. That native population is also far larger then the immigrant population. So if you really give a poop about reducing felonies and crime then reducing the native population crime rate would be the biggest bang for your buck rather then the immigration stick your running.

Unless reducing overall crime not your true motive………. but i get it. Some Haters just need to Hate on the others to feel good about them selves.

Matt- I apologize. Not sure what for but ok.
Right now most of this is exaggerated to the point that the true illegal aliens committing crimes can’t even get deported and we have ICE agents trying to deport all kinds of criminals and all the virtue signalling is getting on my nerves
It is the democrat party that is getting in the way of enforcing ALL crime on the streets anyway in this country. NY cashless bail is a fucking disaster. People here seem more concerned with hardened illegal aliens getting their due process instead of putting away someone that has been arrested 40 times and #41 is another assault and let go. That has happened in NY dozens of times. I wish they would channel their complaining in that direction. Its like everyone here goes quiet on the democrat controlled chaos so just bring up whipping boy Trump to distract people
Most of these people wouldn’t want 90% of the illegals that have come into this country in their neighborhood for 24 hours and frankly I highly doubt they are in their neighborhoods so they get to lecture from a safe distance.

One would think that these people would be held in US facilities if the crimes committed were so serious. What is being done is wholesale evasion and evisceration of US rights and laws. No self-respecting country would take deportees from another country that were not their citizens. El Salvador is doing this to obtain favorable treatment (and probably payments) from the Trump Administration.

Don’t complain when your rights are violated, your property confiscated, or you are shipped out of the country.

No, not to prison. You see you ruin it for the sane non liberals and non virtual signalling white people.
You going to send a 6 yr old girl home? DACA rules come into play. If the parents are working and not commiting crimes and the kids are in school and striving to do better you are basically here. That is what has been happening in NYS for 40 years now. Except in the virtue signally affluent white communites. They even get mad when 50 guys are in front of the local deli waiting to go get picked up to work. Oh but they hire someone that in turns hire that illegal to tend to their garden.
My beef is there are illegals here that have committed crimes, multiple crimes but many here think they are entitled to the same due process as a law abiding citizen. But the system is so back logged that is never going to happen in a timely matter so I’m sorry, ya gotta go and dont come back.
So many of you here are not effected by this because you do not live in those communties nor do you have to deal with the area on a daily basis.
Nothing worse than a liberal, a white liberal even worse virtual signalling from a far and let the little people have to deal with all this chaos

The story gave me something to ponder and research further. Certainly, the prison conditions seem inhumane. However, the Venezuelan student mentioned that his teeth had been smashed. Has he had dental work since? His teeth seemed fine. I tend to discount their stories as it’s all hearsay at this point and there is no photographic evidence of the alleged abuse. Were they completely recovered when they returned to Venezuela? Would it not have made sense to photograph evidence of the mistreatment???

If the person with the smashed teeth is telling his story, it is not hearsay. May or may not be true, but it is not hearsay. Hearsay is own somebody else, not the person who allegedly had his teeth smashed, tells the story. Hearsay could be true or false, but the problem with it in a courtroom is the accused/his lawyer cannot question the actual source, so it is usually not allowed. You can’t see all of his teeth.

98% of Americans have NOT been voting for this bullshit. There has been exactly ONE candidate who actually promised these policies, and he received 32% support out of all eligible Americans. The fact that other administrations have committed policy sins does not mean that Americans support them. Good Americans were outraged by Abu Ghraib, fictitious WMD’s used to justify wars, etc etc etc.

That being said, I would 100% support reeducation camps for the 32% of people who DID support this criminal administration.

The US can also do this to any legal citizen based on the powers enacted after 911. They have the right to detain you without any rights if you are considered an enemy of the state. Having said that I am sure those deported were not Sunday school teachers. Ask any current prisoners in the US and they are all innocent, Same with the father of the year George Floyd, I am skeptical of the 60 min segment claiming their innocence. I would like to see the US govt response and documentation of the accusations against those deported before I formulate an opinion on this. 60 minutes has typically been severely sensational and biased in their reporting.

Ok deport them, but there is no need to hold them in this country in inhumane detention centers and no need to send them to prisons. Send them back to their country of orgin.. This is simply cruelty. Is that who we are?

Please explain to me WTF as an American citizen I have to give a shit about gang banging criminals that came to America illegally, to commit felonies in America, and now I have to care about the conditions of a foreign countries prison system and how they are treated?

So, MAGA faithful have two standards. Guilty until proven innocent for undocumented immigrants, and Innocent until proven guilty for MAGA & associated leadership that traffics underage girls for sexual predators.

As a bonus they organize to obstruct justice and suppress evidence that the victims need released.

Can you point to the legal due process that took place before deporting these people and labeling them gang bangers? In America, people are innocent until proven guilty.

That would not be my response. My response is that I have yet to see any evidence that the majority of the people being apprehended and deported have been granted legal representation, a hearing, a trial, and a verdict rendered. Many are being picked up from their place of work, their homes, or elsewhere while doing nothing wrong except not yet being legal citizens, either because they came here without documentation at some point and committed an extremely minor misdemeanor.

So, you are talking about the small percentage of immigrants who are here with work permits and awaiting their time in court to plead their amnesty case that commit a serious misdemeanor or a felony, are found guilty, and released on parole, and are hiding from ICE, who will want to deport them? In those cases, deport them back to their country of origin.

Know we are not. And that is the point you are not addressing, There are many convicted murderers rapists etc etc so why should I care about there due process now? As mentioned by RealityCzech did you care about their due process when they broke the law coming here? some have gone back and forth multiple times and now all of a sudden I am supposed to be upset about a convicted or criminal brought up on felony charges from a DA?
So where do we send them until we attempt to try them? assuming its not NY because we have cashless bail law so these violent criminals are walking the streets
I know, lets send them to a hotel in your neighborhood.

‘small percentage of immigrants’? I am assuming you mean illegal immigrants, right?

I am talking about the estimated (according to dhs) 1.8. – 2.9 million illegals in California.

Seriously, where do you get your news? This has been a problem in LA for a long time. Decades.

Sorry, but I am not going to otherize immigrants who have crossed the border to escape poverty and violence, looking for a better life as “illegals.” Did they commit a misdemeanor by not coming to the U.S. through a formal port of entry? Yes! Ok, they are here, and they have the rights and papers to work until their court date, when they will make their amnesty case. They are not “illegals,” they are just not as lucky as you are by being a citizen of the U.S.

On the one hand, sending foreign nationals to other countries to be rendered for torture is a 21st century tradition for the U.S.

On the other hand, its been a heinous tragedy that we’ve allowed it since day one.

No. The real tragedy is their victims. No, the real 21st century tradition is some people in this country care more about the felonious criminals than they do their victims.

Do your own do diligence on many of these people that are getting caught. If 20% of them are commiting felonies while here illegally, why the hell should I care what happens to them?
In any other country they would be in jail. But you virtue signalling white liberals cant even address the illegals committing crimes in this country you just virtue signal from afar
Ok, send the few you care about back and we came dump them in a hotel in your neighborhood during the trial

I am not “virtue” signalling, I am talking about Constitutional ideals that have shaped our laws and institutions in this nation for the last 150 years. I am talking about what differentiates the United States from most other countries in the world. You are obviously someone who adheres to an “ends justify the means” worldview. Unfortunately for you and those like you, this Trump era that you so relate to flies in the face of most principles and values that enabled the United State to become the beacon of freedom and democracy in the world over the last 150 years. This era of scrapping our values and principles for convenience and expediency will pass because it is a perversion of who we are as a nation.

KP, do you believe borders matter? I wonder what you thought about a presidential candidate (and then president) telling foreigners to surge to the border and then did nothing to stop them from entering illegally. Since you’re concerned about the rule of law and constitution.

Seems like you only care about one side of the equation.

Many of these immigrants entered U.S. soil without going through the formal port-of-entry process. That in itself is a misdemeanor. Many of those are immediately confronted by Border Control, who claim that they are fleeing violence, drug cartels, and political persecution. When they make such claims, they ask for amnesty. At that point, they find themselves in a legal process that takes time to play out. Border Control releases them and advises them that they can obtain temporary work papers. They get work papers, they get a job, and wait for their day in front of a judge. These people are not “illegals.” We know who these people are, we know where they work because they pay taxes, and they are legally in the amnesty process.

You mean they hopped the border. Stop watering down what they did. Just be honest.

What percent of illegal immigrants show up to their court dates?

They are illegal. How many have you taken into your home? Or is it that you just want everyone else to do that while you sit on your hands?

You’re such a coward.

Entering the U.S. illegally is considered a misdemeanor under 8 U.S.C. § 1325 for a first offense, punishable by a fine or up to six months in prison. However, reentering the U.S. after being previously deported is classified as a felony under 8 U.S.C. § 1326, which can result in harsher penalties, including significant prison time.

How many pay taxes? A better question is the fiscal drain, taxes minus benefits. Congress estimates it is $68,000 per person, added to the national debt.

more hysterical nonsense. It is now a “tradition”?????
It has probably been going on for or attempted to be done in for what 3 months/ 6 months?
So 6 months is now 21st tradition? This is why you left leaning liberal folks can’t govern. You exaggerate everything to fit your dynamic .
Is it a tragedy that your party let young girls and women be raped trying to get over the border? Sold in prostitution until someone could pay off their smuggler.
Oh no its all a glorious time people just crossing the border like its a day in the sunshine
Some of you people are accountable for nothing.

ITS JUST GETTING WORSE WITH EVERY YEAR. YOU CAN NOT BRING TO LIGHT CORRUPTION OF OUR POLITICIANS OR YOU GET AN IRS NOTICE. CRITISIZE THE LEFT, THE RIGHT OR THE ATROCITIES ISRAEL HAS BEEN COMMITING AND YOU CAN BE INVESTIGATED OR EVEN LOSE YOUR JOB.
WHAT AN EXITANCE!

Curious: what “atrocities” has Israel actually committed that haven’t been normalized modern combat procedures since at least WW2? I always get the suspicion that people complaining about Israeli actions go out of their way to ignore international precedent and focus only on applying unrealistic standards on one country that has a characteristic particular to it that every other state doesn’t.

Dude. It’s been that for over 60 years. WaPo, CBS, CNN, NPR, PBS, NYT. State-controlled media. Sure, they let them run stories on gay marriage or recipes for pumpkin cookies at Halloween time, but anything about foreign policy and the American Empire is essentially a press release by the deep state – which operates independently of who’s in the White House. No matter who you vote for, you get John McCain.
