Fact Checkers Replaced by Unicorns After Biden Tweets “My Build Back Better Agenda Costs Zero Dollars”

Charge of the Unicorns

The opening sentence of Biden’s Tweet, is of course idiotic.

For those who think it is a typo, and Biden meant something else, Biden made the same statement at a press conference last week.

Every time I hear this is going to cost A, B, C, or D—the truth is, based on the commitment that I made, it’s going to cost nothing,” said Biden.

Fact Checkers Missing in Action

Where are the Democratic fact checkers when you need them?

Even if you grant Biden allowances that he really meant “My package will be fully paid for by tax hikes,” it’s still a lie.

Pelosi Covers Up for Biden

Let’s not talk about numbers, let’s talk about values,” said Speaker Pelosi in the above clip.

Lies,  Gimmicks, and Phony Numbers

To make the package seemingly appear as if taxes will cover it Budget Tricks Disguise the True Cost of Biden’s Vast Entitlement Plans.

  1. Start with the child allowance, which is among the bill’s most expensive provisions. Extending the $3,000 to $3,600 per-child payments for a decade would cost roughly $1.1 trillion. That’s as much as all of the income tax increases on individuals passed by the House Ways and Means Committee. Democrats have hidden the real cost by extending the allowance only through 2025. Even if Republicans gain control of Congress and the White House in 2024, Democrats and their media allies will bludgeon them to extend the payments, which will cost another $110 billion each year. [For 5 years – Total $550 billion]
  2. Democrats are using a different time shift to disguise the cost of their Medicare expansion. New vision and hearing benefits would kick in over the next two years and cost about $20 billion a year. But Democrats are delaying the phase-in of the much more expensive dental benefit to 2028. This “saves” $420 billion over 10 years, but the costs explode after that. [Cost $420 Billion minimum in future years]
  3. Then there’s the new universal child-care entitlement, which gives $90 billion to the states—but only from 2022 to 2027. But what happens when the $90 billion runs out, which may occur before the 2027 expiration? The bill automatically appropriates “such sums as may be necessary for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2027.” [Cost $90 billion plus any shortfalls to 2027]
  4.  Democrats also charge states with standing up a universal pre-K entitlement, which would start next year and run through 2028. The House Education and Labor Committee bill doesn’t specify an appropriation, but President Biden’s budget projects this new entitlement would cost $33 billion a year when fully phased in. [This one kicks back to a state responsibility, but who really believes that? I don’t, so factor in another 33 billion for 4 years totaling $132 billion.]

10-Year Shifty Math

Biden uses an arbitrary stop date of 2025 on child allowances, a start date on dental of 2028, a stop date on child care of 2027, and a stop date of 2028 on “free” college.

In practice, once entitlements are granted, they are never taken away.

Total up the shortfalls over a 10 year period and Biden will need to come up with another $1.192 trillion in taxes on top of his proposed tax hikes.

Another problem in all of this is projected economic gains and tax revenues never meet promises. Never really means never.

For example, Biden estimates that expanding the IRS would bring in $463 billion, but the CBO projects $120 billion.

Oops, that another $343 billion shortfall.

Factor that in and you have a shortfall of $1.5 trillion or so on a $3.5 trillion deal, and that does not count the $1 trillion infrastructure deal.

I’m of a mind that the more taxes, the more spending by the government, the more inflation and the increasing corruption, will lead to either a second bloody revolution, or a collapse of our “government”, either of which will be beneficial to the fraction of the population who actually want to work to improve our wonderful experiment.  Sometimes, in life, despite the turmoil and stress, one must begin anew.

It won’t cost the leeches which matter to Biden any dollars. Instead, they will continue to be made more than whole, by the same old robbing of others which is how all those who matter to Biden obtained all that they have to begin with.
C’mon, after decades of living in a dystopia so degenerate it makes both North Korea and 1984 seem positively wonderful; one would think you would have learned some basic Newspeak by now….. 🙂

It won’t cost anything, just taxes!
This completely characterizes the time we live in.
This completely flips on its head the tired old saws about how inflation is taxation without legislation.
Or that deficit spending is simply thoughtlessly pushing the costs out to …, to who? or what?
It’s actually free if it comes from taxes!!

There is a certain type of character who tries to peddle something that “won’t cost you a dime”.  Integrity, trustworthy, and honest are just a few of the descriptors that don’t apply to that type of person.

General question.  Not long ago when we talked about increasing the debt, we all thought, OK that means borrowing from Japan, China, by selling them bonds.  Then recently it seems debt can be increased without worry because the Fed will just own them- essentially just printing the money with no theoretical limit to it.  Mish would you comment on this change?

There is some appeal to getting rid of tax loopholes and tax evasion.  They should work on that and throw the rest out with the trash.

More appeal to reduce taxation and letting the individual pursue their happiness, as originally intended.  Surely there is some fat to trim in this small expenditure and the trimmers can go from there-

Not sure what you intended, but it looks like the Biden administration is costing us more.  If they were to weed-out those who don’t show-up to work or do anything productive, this could be a lot lower.  By weeding-out the goals that they don’t work toward or ever achieve, they could get rid of most of this payroll.  Not at all hard to trim.

The key word there is “appeal”. Oft times the unappealing words, “waste and fraud” are used, too. In practice, “loopholes”, “evasion”, “waste”, and “fraud”, each and all mean exactly the same thing: “I don’t want to tell you where the money for my spending comes from.”
One might wonder, why not eliminate those unappealing items now? Or, why are they not already eliminated?
The more spending you do, the more loopholes, evasion, waste, and fraud there will be.

Biden and Pelosi have spent 50 freaking years as career DC politicians.  Why doesn’t anyone ever ask them what do do we have to show for the $30 trillion of debt they have put this country into?  Where are the gleaming new airports?  High speed trains?  New bridges?  New schools?  Where did it all go???  And you want more???

20 yr trillion dollar wars they both voted for account for some.  Point is we never have anything to show for these programs.  It disappears into the ether. And we end up with bigger piles of debt.  And into special interests, lawyers, govt contractors, etc….pockets

I have to fact check you on this. The military budget is only 15% of the total Federal buget and has varied between 14% and 18% of the budget for the last twenty years. Do you check before you write?

A big chunk of it went into entitlement programs: Medicaid/Medicare, Social Security, Welfare, Pensions etc.

Entitlements are the biggest government programs in the US.

The biggest entitlement programs benefit seniors.
In FY 2020 the Social Security program cost $1,096 billion.
In FY 2020 the Medicare health-care program cost $776 billion.

Entitlement programs also benefit the poor. In FY 2020 the Medicaid health-care program for the poor was

to cost $687 billion. All other welfare programs were
“guesstimated” to cost $1,203 billion.

The U.S. does have a well-heeled political class to show for that spending.
Once the current debt ceiling situation is successfully addressed, you will see aggrandizing and adulation that Schumer and colleagues heap upon themselves at their campaign functions – I mean press conferences – and a full explanation of how this legislation addresses all that ails the economy and that “Happy Days are Here Again”

Given the choice between the TCJA and this Biden plan, I would pick the Biden plan. The money controllers will adjust and just borrow more at 0% to goose the stock market and buyback more stocks anyway. This whole sham of an economy is just pretending anyway.

By orders of magnitude too.  Neither Trump nor Obama (in 8 years) added anything close to the amount Biden wants to spend in his first 12 months. One can only imagine how much more he’d want  to spend in the next 3 years!

🙂 Best comment of the day. True but hilarious.
It is weird that the guys who want to spend money sometimes use 10 year numbers. Why not use 1-day numbers so the number is tiny, tiny? Like a bottle of super expensive vitamins you’re selling doesn’t “cost $25”, it costs only “a few cents a day”.

Trump said the same thing with his tax cuts. The economy would grow and increase taxable income enough to offset the costs. Every politician says this and it never pans out.
Build Back Better is a horrible slogan. Just like Hillary’s Stronger Together. The democrats need to hire a new PR firm. Why not just call it the Fix What’s Broken plan. Much easier to say and people would agree.

“Every politician says this and it never pans out.”
Back in 2005 (or so) the CBO* did a study on supply side economics (voodoo economics for those of a certain age) and running different scenarios found that the extra growth from the tax cuts only generated between 8% to 22% of new tax revenue to replace the cut.
*Republicans were in control of Congress then so the director of CBO was a Republican.

It’s all digital numbers now. We don’t print that much actual cash so the cost to print is just having someone type in a number on a keyboard.

And why rates can go negative.
Only about $2 trillion in currency “out there” … a  proverbial drop in the bucket.  An individual – of average means – may well be able to have their entire net worth in greenbacks, but high net worth folks … or corporations sitting on $billions in cash … not on option.
