Italy Backs Brexit: Salvini Accuses EU of “Swindling” the UK

The Sunday Times reports Matteo Salvini, Leader of Italy’s Right, Warns EU is ‘Swindling’ Britain Out of Brexit.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times, Matteo Salvini urges Theresa May to adopt a tougher stance in her Brexit negotiations with the EU, saying: “My experience in the European parliament tells me you either impose yourself or they swindle you.”

The far-right interior minister, a former MEP and considered Italy’s most powerful politician, says May should be prepared to walk away without a deal: “Because on some principles there is no need to be flexible and you should not go backwards.”

He also accuses the EU of trying to punish the UK for voting to leave the bloc: “There is no objectivity or good faith from the European side.” The leader of the anti- immigrant League party made an extraordinary intervention as May dispatched members of her cabinet across Europe to sell her Chequers deal.

“I remember the referendum stage as an example of participation and freedom; I hope it can be an opportunity for the British.”

He added that the Italian government would welcome one-to-one talks with May.

No Opposition

Salvini is the effective leader of Italy. He is the one calling the shots.

Five-Star, part of the current coalition, is also anti-EU. The way Italy’s parliament is structured, 60% is a massive majority.

There is no real opposition to the current government. The EU will not be pleased to say the least.

The smoother Brexit looks, the easier it becomes to sell Italexit, when that time comes. And even if it doesn’t, it at least gives Salvini more leverage versus the Northerners.

I cannot bring myself to trust ANY POLITICIAN. Talk is cheap. It is the action that counts. Let us see what Salvini does – especially with EU (if rates spike does he back down or not?, ECB does not buy its debts, immigrants) and ECB. You need spine to stand up and make it count when the chips are down (rates go up). Just playing to the gallery is all posturing. Can he do what he is suggesting May should do?

Banon is actively attempting to bring together different national groups in Europe. Another long story. Facing off Soros.

Verhofstadt has suggested Banon be denied entrance to any country in the EU even though he has broken no laws. Verhofstadt has influence and power.

This is how it is heading. A Centrist cabal controlling whatever they see as not meeting their aims & denying free speech.

God help us when they have an army. It a type of fascism. Verhofstadt is the same one who stated he wanted to create an empire. He meant it.

The EU is NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
Unfortunately, Theresa May doesn’t appear up to the job.
She is giving UK legal control to the ECJ whilst being unable to influence anything.
It’s a complex matter & very important.

This is the first of a # of briefing comments on Mays proposal.

May is doing exactly what is necessary to get a 2nd referendum on Brexit- make a complete mess of it.
