Still think it was panic? Or was it prudent? Turns out it’s impossible to tell at the time. Inflammatory headlines probably don’t help.

Personal story… my team met in the Los Angeles area for a team building event last week. My manager, who flew in from NoCal, is fully vaccinated with his booster while I’m not vaccinated at all. Yesterday he called to tell me he has COVID. I was already experiencing a slight headache since the previous day. I got tested and was also positive so I popped some ivermectin yesterday.
Not exactly a scientific study but definitely interesting since it seems we were probably infected by the same source. We’ll see how each of us will fare. Last night I had a fever that dissipated while he has lost his sense of taste/smell. I’m doing well overall.

Medical professionals treating this variant are expressing that this variant is extremely mild. As it stands NY, without any evidence either way, appears to be panicking and over reacting.
SESTU, CAGLIARI – An autopsy has concluded link to unionesarda.it that 27-year-old Carlotta Masala has died as a result of pulmonary
edema linked to myocarditis. Carlotta, a sporty, sunny girl who had no
previous health problems, was found dead by her father Francesco on
Tuesday morning at their home in Sestu. The 27-year-old had received her
second dose of the Pfizer vaccine in August.
Francesco commented after her death on Tuesday:
“Carlotta is gone. The rescuers said she died of natural causes.
Let
me be clear: my daughter was healthy. She loved sports and photography.
She had the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine in August.”
“Carlotta’s death comes just weeks after 2 members of the same family in Palermo suddenly died from cardiac arrest link to thecovidworld.com shortly after having received the COVID-19 vaccine.”
Please keep your death porn to yourself. It is ignoble and belittles those who have suffered widespread death. If you want to make your point then back it up with facts and statistics rather than anecdotes that are to those who have seen real suffering and death seem trivial.
We all have the right to value what we read. If you don’t like it then stop reading and go elsewhere. Discussion here is mostly derived from opinions. If you want strictly science and statistics then it seems foolish to look for that here, which leads me to devalue any opinion of yours.
It is sad when young people who are at zero risk from Covid are bullied into taking these dangerous vaccines and pay such a price.

Hochul tied a hand behind her back.
“The COVID World post date: November 23rd, 2021
LONG BEACH, NEW YORK – A Long Beach emergency room was forced to close its doors on Monday because of a shortage of nursing staff as a New York state rule took effect that bars unvaccinated medical workers from their jobs. Officials at Mount Sinai South Nassau said Monday that all other options were exhausted before the decision was made to suspend around 70 unvaccinated workers and close the ER, starting at 3 p.m. The shutdown is a direct result of the hospital’s compliance with the state’s Department of Health’s mandate that requires the suspension of all staff working under temporary religious exemptions who could not show proof of receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination or a valid medical exemption.”
Yikes!! shutdown mentality hits the hospitals during a pandemic

So preparing ahead of time is now panic. I agree that there has been overreactions to Covid but as the press statement said, “this precautionary measure”. And the reason given is sound.

It is summer in South Africa. I wouldn’t worry about omicron until it starts putting people in the hospital. It likely hits the unvaccinated harder (again).
As seen on Zero Hedge: “The new ‘Omicron’ variant of COVID-19 was first detected in four
people who were fully vaccinated, according to a public statement by
the Botswana government. The new variant, which some claim is three times more contagious, was
initially discovered in Botswana before it spread across South Africa.”
Apparently, it is already hitting the Covaxxinated.
There is a human psychological process that affects group think according to levels of threat. It is much more persuasive to rally a group against something than to rally a group in support of something. This is a time honored propaganda affect used in the manipulation of societies to go to war. Covid has typical mortality rates. Malpractice in treating Covid has excessive mortality rates. If Covid were looked on as a gift rather than a disease it would get no attention at all.

Covid misinformation spreads because so many Americans are awful at math
Two-step calculations are hard enough for some, but assessing vaccine effectiveness requires multiple steps.
There are about 30,000 “SNPs” that make up the DNA for Sars2/Coronavirus. Each SNP can be an A, G, C, or T. And each SNP can be a different AGCT letter from the equivalent AGCT in a another list of 30,000 SNPs. That would be a mutation. (Warning: Oversimplification, but close enough)
Anyway, it looks like there are around 2 million sequences (each a list of 30k SNPs) out there in the public. A lot more coming in every day. So plenty of raw data. You can download them all in a .csv file from an Amazon S3 site, among other places.
The Sars viruses do not contain any DNA. Their genetic material is RNA so the mutations you see are in their RNA. Not knowing the difference between the two when talking about the virus’ genetic makeup can be problematic.
Good point! I wasn’t even thinking of that when I noted “Oversimplification”.
Yeah, my description probably would have been Ok if “DNA” were changed to “RNA” and “AGCT” to … whatnot. 🙂
And, say, I didn’t like introducing the random-ish, bio-acronym, “SNP”. For future use, if you can think of a way to word this without “SNP”, reply to this message and maybe the comment logic will list your reply within visible comment-space and I’ll see it. Maybe.
Gotta disagree on that one. With my outside-the-field hat on, I read “single-nuke-spelled-wrong-big-mushy-word”. Not a good label. Though, as I note, I don’t like using an unfamiliar word, “SNP”. But could not think of any way to avoid doing so. So I repeated “SNP” several times to lock it in. Repeating the long form that many times would be murder. Necessary. But murder.
Another mistake: “out there in the public” —-> “reported to the public”. Or, “in the public database”. Or something better.
Writing is hard. You and others seem to do it effortlessly. Sigh.
How about “a genetic screwdriver with four different points” because that is what it is?
SNP is pronounced “snippet” by those who work in the field and describes what it is so you have to get SNP out of your mind and repeat snippet. Get that down and you could pass for a geneticist in a cocktail party.
Ah, saw your reply on the other Mish posting. Yeah, “nucleotide” alone might work. … Let me think.
It’s maybe closer to official lingo. There’s that.
I should have written the 1st “SNPs” as “SNPs (spoken as ‘snips’)”! … And that decides it. 1 easily spelled and heard syllable beats a word with 11-teen syllables and too may vowels in its bowels.
“RNA Unit”?
………
I read your reply to the reply as I was typing this thing.
And here I understood “snip” was the sound of SNP. Gotta say, “snip” is way better than “snippet”. But then, you will never ever ever ever hear me saying anything nice about the field of biology and their *&#$^(W#$ labels. Hell, if not for biological labeling we’d all have flying wombats (er, cars) by now.
SNP and snippet are used because even professionals find the formal names clumsy. Honestly though the long names give so much more information about what it’s made of. Polymorphism can be seen like a werewolf, sometimes a man and sometimes a wolf but are different body shapes for the same person. Biological concepts are easy if explained well.

Oh Boy looks like the tide is starting to turn. Those who got vaxed might be in a crap load of trouble soon. The news in the UK doesn’t look good. The Expose has the article.
From what I can tell it looks like MRNA vaccine only drops effectiveness by 30% against this strain. It looks like 100% of the unvaccinated will die quickly. I guess you don’t think they are in trouble.
What if vaccination produces a false sense of security? Eg. the vaccinated expose themselves without taking precautions.

So we made a vaccine against Covid Classic. But no one in the world has Covid Classic any more. We all have Delta. The vaccines don’t work against Delta. And now we have Omicron.
Coronaviruses can mutate wayyyy faster than we can create vaccines, and in any case you can’t keep vaccinating people over and over every few months with vaccine variants – especially as the vaccines themselves are quite dangerous. We already have young people keeling over with heart attacks thanks to the first shots.
Those in power are absolutely loving this. Another chance to self-righteously put the boot in against citizens. The Fauci virus is the gift that keeps on giving.

I find it hilarious that skeptics still are all outraged about the $20 dollar vaccine and the $0.50 mask.
But they are all in for the $ 2,500 monoclonal anti-body treatment, the $ 40,000 non ICU covid stay or the $ 400,000 ICU covid stay.
All those options feed the industrial medical industry in big gulps. It’s not like you have artisianal makers of MAB or rolling bandages for hospitals.
Actually, i am all for the cheap anti-virals that the FDA is blocking for the financial benefit of the public health agencies and Big Pharma companies. Fauci gets a $150,000 a year royalty from Moderna, for it’s Covax. I am also for staying out of the hospital altogether. I take 5,000 IU of vitamin D every day, toward that end. Remdesivir is an unsafe therapy, with a 23% severe adverse reaction rate. It is far more dangerous than Ivermectin, which could be used in its place, except that hospitals refuse to treat patients with it. I have no interest in an expensive monoclonal anti-body treatment.
I am concerned about the lack of safety of the “vaccines.” VAERS is on TILT, with reports of adverse reaction to the Covax. Way beyond any other before it. The rules were thrown out the window in the rush to market. Pfizer withheld that Maddie De Garay was paralyzed after her second shot. The government also wants to slow walk the release of the Pfizer documents.
No one is given informed consent. “Safe and effective” is a marketing slogan, nothing more. Vaccine injuries are piling up and there is no long term safety data, either.

I’d be curious on what basis Fauci says it’s “likely will be more transmissible“. And why the WHO says both that and that it could be more dangerous than the existing Covids. (Instead of saying it could be less dangerous, for instance.) Reasons that come to mind, off hand:
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. (But don’t say anything hopeful because the blind, knuckle-dragging fools such as not yourself – won’t prepare.)
60 out of 600? Yeah, that sounds pretty damn transmissible. Or the test is highly geared to generate false positives. Or … you name it.
A new variant to ponder in important meetings among we important people? Score! That theme in the play, Hamilton, of “room where it happened” is point-on in many situations. Observe it when next you attend an important meeting. Pride motivates.
They what happens with viruses over time and mutation. So, they are just stating the best bet.
Honesty. They say they don’t know. But don’t want to say that too clearly. Not when they are paid by the opinion.
Is this variant flooding the Covid market in SA? If so, by definition it’s more transmissible in SA.
And that’s just off the top. Fun stuff for the weekend.
….it appears to be outcompeting other variants in South Africa — including the extremely transmissible Delta variant — and fast. It’s starting to drive cases up in that country, which has already had several massive waves in its epidemic. Some possible explanations are that it’s a better spreader than even Delta, that it can cause infections in people who are protected at higher rates [through previous infection or vaccination], or some combination of the two…

Actually, when you come to think of it, Delta was fizzling out in far too many parts of the world; in Japan, India, parts of Africa Ivermectin worked miracles, even the US of fn A was improving, so another variant was urgently needed ! Don t know about you folks but for me it is damn OBVIOUS !
“Ivermectin is total crap. Does nothing for a COVID infection.”
QTPie, that is misinformation. There are over 60 positive studies/trials on Ivermectin.
Recently, a Marine veteran and his wife had Covid-19. His doctor said he was within 2 days of winding up in the hospital. The doctor prescribed Ivermectin, which a Walmart pharmacy refused to fill. He bought horse paste instead and both he and his wife were feeling better within 8 hours.
Sue Dickenson was in the hospital and at the point of a 20% chance of survival, when her daughter got a court order to force the hospital to administer Ivermectin. The daughter said the hospital staff was astonished at Sue’s recovery after Ivermectin was administered.
After a look at those countries stats, I am not so sure the data says anything about the effectiveness of ivermectin. It doesn’t mean I’d call ineffective. There are plenty of doctors that used it and swear by it but they don’t have enough patients to really form a very good study.. them again, how many doctors would. My attention goes to the amount of resistance the pharmaceutical companies have presented. I think it is totally obvious that the alphabet agencies are now controlled by the people they are supposed to regulate.
Nope. Here is an actual controlled study from India.
Conclusions: In patients with mild and moderate COVID-19, a single oral administration of Ivermectin did not significantly increase either the negativity of RT-PCR or decline in viral load at day 5 of enrolment compared with placebo.
Pharma mafia must be drooling over the potential profits of endless new boosters, the ‘research’ on new ‘variants’ most likely sponsered or entirely paid for by them anyway ! COVID IS THE BIGGEST FRAUD IN HISTORY ! When will the lid be removed of this stinking fermenting vaccine cesspool, with the outrageous truth plain to see for everyone ? Looks like the vaxxed ones have become totally blinded and deluded by the fn shots, incapable of thinking beyond the corrrupt msm narrative, the 4th, the 5th, the 6th etc will only make it worse I am afraid…..

On a more alarming note, this new strain Omicron has what 31 new changes? We have had sequence surveillance for over a year and now and it jumps this much all of a sudden? Something is not right here.
The key there may be that it’s not necessarily “all of a sudden”. It’s just that the public data base (lazy me, no URL) doesn’t have sequences for any Sars2 between Nu/Omicron and its nearest relative. That could simply be that no one ran their sequencer on the missing links. That the variant closest to Nu/Omicron was sequenced some time ago kinda implies that.
Works great to shut down borders, which is my worry. my son just left for Dubai yesterday at 6:00PM. If they start barking from the trees it might get complicated getting back.
On top of needing to be fully vaxxed and the booster, you need a negative rtpcr to get on the plane. You also need another one to get back and he has his girlfriend with him, doubling the chances of complications. We will wait and see.
I strongly agree with Martenson that we simply don’t know how this variant will behave… yet.
I disagree with the the overall thrust of his argument which seems to imply that we just shouldn’t worry about it until we find out. Better to take extra precautions for a short while until the true level of danger involved can be ascertained.

I’m just guessing here, but I doubt Monday is going to be a good day for stocks. lol.
Goldman’s are obviously worried with their “This mutation is unlikely to be more malicious; no reason for portfolio changes” headline in ZeroHedge. In other words “let us square up first please.”
Marek’s disease, Feline Calcivirus, Bursal disease, all treated with non-sterilizing immunisations. Such immunisations are expected to cause an increase in asymptotic transmission and stronger more dangerous viral variants over time. Maybe Omicron isn’t one of them, we don’t know yet.
The Spanish Flue occurred in a war torn world with so much deprivation. Modern medicine did not begin until World War II and after. The Spanish Flue would not have been as dangerous if it occurred in modern times.
It will be interesting to see how well Hochul does in the trenches, if COVID does come back strong. She is an old school Democrat whose parents were working class activists. Said to be a hard worker and somebody who understands the issues. I won’t prejudge her.

Let it rip potato chip. we should be well positioned to handle this . Those that are inclined can get vaxxed , those that contract a severe case ;monoclonal antibodies/steroids . viruses mutate into a more transmissible form , they want to propagate and they really don’t want to kill the host for obvious reasons. How many iterations of the flu have we experienced ? New York suspending non urgent care may be related to staffing shortages caused by the vaccine mandate . How long are we going to embrace “whack a mole” behavior/science. At a certain juncture
we all will have to face the risks head on. we can’t cower in our living units indefinitely . please civil debate
The concern is that similar spike variations promote vaccine evasion.
As for “whack a mole” science, you can’t get 100% accurate final perfect solutions/answers in a world where you are living through something unique.
I’n not sure where you could miss that this is a world of random chaos.

Leaky sieve.. ..with an even more transmissible variant in play we have an example where in Amsterdam, 60 out of 600 on planes from South Africa tested positive for covid after supposedly testing negative before flights and/or providing proof of vaccination.
Or is it that quick to manifest—within 10 hours?
“It goes too far to say we are surprised” by the high number of cases, the airline spokesperson said. “But we don’t have an explanation.”
Fun times.
Quick reactions across the world with many “calming” statement being put out. Does that mean it’s time to worry?
The R_t for Gauteng SA (locus of variant) is 2.2 right now, which is huge.
