Trump Hits European Nations With Tariffs Until Deal Reached to Buy Greenland

If you need another reason IEEPA tariffs are idiocy, you have one.

Europe Playing a Dangerous Game Says Trump

Truth Social Link: We have subsidized Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other forms of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it is time for Denmark to give back — World Peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it. They currently have two dogsleds as protection, one added recently. Only the United States of America, under PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, can play in this game, and very successfully, at that! Nobody will touch this sacred piece of Land, especially since the National Security of the United States, and the World at large, is at stake. On top of everything else, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland have journeyed to Greenland, for purposes unknown. This is a very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet. These Countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable. Therefore, it is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question. Starting on February 1st, 2026, all of the above mentioned Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland), will be charged a 10% Tariff on any and all goods sent to the United States of America. On June 1st, 2026, the Tariff will be increased to 25%. This Tariff will be due and payable until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland. The United States has been trying to do this transaction for over 150 years. Many Presidents have tried, and for good reason, but Denmark has always refused. Now, because of The Golden Dome, and Modern Day Weapons Systems, both Offensive and Defensive, the need to ACQUIRE is especially important. Hundreds of Billions of Dollars are currently being spent on Security Programs having to do with “The Dome,” including for the possible protection of Canada, and this very brilliant, but highly complex system can only work at its maximum potential and efficiency, because of angles, metes, and bounds, if this Land is included in it. The United States of America is immediately open to negotiation with Denmark and/or any of these Countries that have put so much at risk, despite all that we have done for them, including maximum protection, over so many decades. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A Dangerous Situation

This is a very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet. These Countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable.

Indeed. The US is a a NATO country and Trump’s actions against another NATO country put the whole world at risk

Tariffs as a Weapon

Trump is repeatedly using tariffs as a weapon, not as a trade matter.

At a minimum he did it to Brazil, India, Canada, Mexico, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland.

NATO Treaty

By signed treaty, NATO countries are obliged to come to the defense of any other NATO country attacked.

They are obliged to protect Greenland from an invasion by the US.

Moreover, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland don’t have any say in the matter between Trump’s ignorant bluster.

The purchase of Greenland is a matter between the US, Denmark, and Greenland.

The irony is that had Trump not been such an ass, Greenland was on the verge of breaking away from Denmark.

Instead, after Trump’s threats, Greenland voted to improve ties to with Denmark instead of voting to become totally independent.

Hannity a Trump Parrot Moron

Who the flying F is Hannity to tell Greenland what is best for Greenland? And it is irrelevant how Denmark has treated Greenland.

What matters (and nothing else) is Greenland voted to remain tied to Denmark, and Greenland says it is not for sale.

Greenland says No! to Trump

Greenland’s Lawmakers tell Trump No Amount of Money Can Buy Greenland

There’s no sum of money from Donald Trump that would persuade Greenlanders to join the US, two Greenlandic lawmakers in the Danish parliament said, underscoring opposition that spans the territory’s political landscape.

Any attempt by the US president to entice the Arctic island with cash is doomed to fail and only risks pushing Greenlanders further away, said Aaja Chemnitz, one of two Greenland representatives in the Danish legislature, where she chairs the committee focused on the territory’s affairs.

“No amount of money can buy our national soul,” Chemnitz said in an interview in Copenhagen on Friday. “It’s disrespectful to think that you can buy a people. What use is a one-off payment when your entire foundation is being torn away?

Going to War with NATO

Trump Will Take Greenland the ‘Easy Way’ or the ‘Hard Way’ by Force

On January 10, 2026, I noted Trump Will Take Greenland the ‘Easy Way’ or the ‘Hard Way’ by Force

Let me put this politely: The brazenness and gall of this arrogant, ignorant ass is stunning.

I am thoroughly disgusted there is not a 100 percent immediate rebuke in the Senate of this “I want Greenland so I will just take it” attitude.

And there should be enough votes to override any veto. Instead, only a handful are speaking up.

Quite frankly, we are under the control of a moronic, erratic madman backed by mindless sycophants and cowards.

If you defend Trump’s statements on Greenland, then look in the mirror to see someone with a huge problem.

If Trump is being so successful with his policies, why is the 10 year yield up to 4.24%? This is the highest it has been since September 2025. Weren’t those rate cuts since then supposed to lower rates?

I smell a boycott of us debt and products because of Trump.

2nd term, too. and he crushed it. the problem kids, is that democracy works. amerikans are nihilist warmongers in the majority. hat tip the republic by plato and ominous parallels by peikoff. it’s hard for most old geezers to admit this. the younger generation seems easier to digest an ugly truth about our empire. the rest is eyewash. fixing this has only one solution. an empire that crumbles and busts up. no other way.

The US now run by a head of the Mafia? According to this opinion piece from Europe. At least it’s out in the open..

Donald Trump with scenes from “The Godfather”
US President Trump is threatening Germany and other countries with 25% additional import tariffs if they oppose the US purchase of Greenland. A scene reminiscent of mafia films, in which a shop owner is forced to sell his business to the mafia, otherwise … And this at a time when the value of the dollar is hanging by a thread.

There is a hard reality here. The world is running out of resources. AI requires vast amounts of energy; population growth means more food and essential elements like platinum and cooper are in decreasing supply. The worlds resources aren’t sufficient to meet the coming needs of a premier country. In a way, Trump is a traditional American practicing “manifest destiny” god wants us to have other people’s stuff. So, we steal Venezuela’s oil and Greenland. None of this will end well.

Mish, I wouldn’t expect Senate to say anything. The US is an imperial state (I mean it in geostrategic terms and I mean it in neutral way, nothing personal). Why should Senate hinder enlargement of the empire? I would expect Senate to step in if Trump’s Greenland adventure starts turning into a war with EU. It will be interesting to watch what EU will do. Will Brussels clown team jump on plane and fly to Beijing to do full Carney as strategic hedge against Trump and his threats? I can’t imagine that. Think of von der Leyden, Poland and Baltic dwarfs. They depend on the US. This Greenland saga is breaking point for EU as well as Macron, Merz, Meloni and some others start talking about peace with Putin.

“People don’t want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? The common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany.” – Hermann Göring
But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.

Gilbert : There is one difference. In a democracy, the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.

Göring : Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

This is the time most dangerous for the whole world.
Falling star is desperate.
There is no solution to multiple problems.

Most obvious problems are –

  1. National debt of over 38 trillions and yearly deficit of over 3 trillions.
  2. Epstein’s paedophile ring involving very high bipartisan VIPs.
  3. Depleted manufacturing base.
  4. Eroding reserve currency status.
  5. Hollowing out middle class – dropping living standard

President can’t solve the problems. And can’t explain the people.
So desperate that WW3 might be chosen as US seems still has the mightiest
military power.

Epstein’s paedophile ring involving very high bipartisan VIPs. > It will be over at some point. The Dems have taken quite the hit, so they must be happy it’s slowing down a bit in the news cycle for them.
Depleted manufacturing base. > Not sure about the use of that word. I was thinking more like Vastly Changing Infrastructure, and Needs Vs. wants are changing very rapidly. Can our Manufacturers keep up?
Eroding reserve currency status. > Not going anywhere, anytime soon, it I agree it’s taken some lumps.
Hollowing out middle class – dropping living standard > Every time it seems, when the middle class starts flexing some Financial Muscle, they get knocked back down a peg or two. What’s up with that?
– President can’t solve the problems.> None of them alone can, and right now, it appears more of the same is being called for, in-place and instead of “Working Together” Maybe on purpose, but that isn’t helping anyone right now…
– And can’t explain the people. > Can’t now, couldn’t before, and probably never will. Where called Human Beings, not robots.
– So desperate that WW3 might be chosen as US seems still has the mightiest military power. > Actually the Biggest, and should be imo by far, is a Nuclear War of any sort. Once they start flying, we will have in essence destroyed ourselves. That’s worth being a tad desperate in trying to assure it never happens for us all…

1. $500B for the military
2. $700B to buy Greenland
3. Billions to restore Obamacare subsidies
4. $2000 for every American for ‘tariff rebates’
5. On top of a $4T tax break for billionaires

You really expect good results in ‘5 or 6 months’?!

The US has treaties with Greenland/Denmark on NATO bases since 1951. It was updated in the early 2000s. The US officially recognized Greenland as part of Denmark *by treaty* in 1917 with the purchase of the Danish West Indies (now Virgin Islands). Just like in business, Trump ignores laws and prior agreements.

When Denmark accorded Greenland autonomy that changed the equation. As soon as they could the Greenlanders understandably started shopping around for ways to develop the island and Chinese companies stepped up of course. For them it is not about profits but about strategy. Obviously we can’t allow that so we had to get Denmark to veto the projects and each time China came back again and again. It is no surprise then that the US decided to put an end to it.

Bravo, Mr. Shedlock. Your statements are accurate and explicitly correct. I cannot understand why Americans are allowing this madness to continue. Trump is a profound disgrace to America, and what it has always stood for. After watching what the ICE goons are doing in American cities, no one in any nation would want to become “Federated” with America. Trump is playing an insane, dangerous game, and seems interested in making an enemy of the entire World. It is astonishing to see this crazy old man attack the allies of America. Like the New York Times wrote recently, this is not the way a President acts. And what is clear, is that this madness will destroy NATO, which is perhaps the plan. The greatest security threat that America now faces, comes from the current Trump Administration. The USA, without it’s Constitution, and under the control of a greed-driven Emperor-wannabe, may well become a nightmare entity that triggers an unlimited war-spiral.
No one anywhere, wants to be part of this new militarized America, if they are sane and wise and rational. Trump is not putting America First, he is destroying the Republican Ideals that created and built America. Wise Conservatives need to ses this, and help stop what is happening.

The most important part is that the Greenland ers suddenly have realized they have a very desirable island and suddenly everybody wants it. A couple of years ago only military experts talked about it and now Europe is sending troops, planes and ships to back Denmark. Trump’s message is not for Denmark or Europe. His message is to the Greenlanders saying come with us and you will get rich or stay with Denmark and get welfare. You can see the bidding war shaping up and the US can outbid Denmark and Europe. Greenland is a colony with the typical political setup of native people headed by a non-native white dude as PM. Denmark is understandably angered because it is the last remaining part of their empire but the decision is no longer up to them but to the people of Greenland. Denmark and France are the only countries in Europe still with colonies. The others don’t care much about it but will give lip service as long as it doesn’t cost them too much. France has bigger prestige stake as does Scandinavia however. Trump planted the seed in the Greenlanders minds and it is ripening nicely.

Based on everything I have read, the reaction of most Greenlanders is similar to the reaction of most Canadians, when Trump said that Canada should be part of the US. The result in Canada was the Conservative leader lost a 20 point lead in the polls, and Carney won because he was willing to defend Canadian independence.

I suspect you will always be able to find some who are willing to be bought out. But the more Trump threatens folks, the more likely they are to react negatively.

You can’t compare Greenland to Canada. Greenland is a true colony as I explained. Now tell me why has the Greenland government elected by its people kept trying to make investment deals with Chinese companies? It’s because they want to develop the island and get tax income and jobs for the Greenlanders and I can’t blame for that. Our way would give them money up front and development as well as full autonomy. Greenlanders are not very attached to Denmark and if given a much better alternative they will probably take it unless Denmark doesn’t allow it then we have confirmation that it is the traditional setup. Have you read up on how Iceland became independent from Denmark? If not you should. One takeaway though. Only Denmark sent fighters to Greenland as a show of “force” and they were F-35s. None of the other Scandinavian countries sent fighters even though they easily could have. France only refueled them using one of their tankers.

For Canada, you may want to blame Trump for Carney’s win and there is some truth to it but the ultimate blame should be on Canadian voters. They chose. They made their own bed.

Same thing happening in Europe just now. All conservative parties – those with a last remainder of common sense – extremely embarrassed by having sided with the would-be-gone-mad dictator (though he still gets the odd couple of things right) and are losing votes to the left. More immigrants will be flooding the place, Western Europe a lost continent. As planned by the known actors.

Trump bailed on helping the Iranians, just like Biden and Obama. His betrayal will cost the republican party the elections in November and the presidential election in 2028. We’ll have a democrat president, Newsom, a democratic senate and house.
Anything good that Trump did will be undone in a few days. Americans should visit their local gun store soon to prepare. As for Greenland, Trump just has to reactivate and enlarge the dozens of military bases the USA had on Greenland since WWII. Why that isn’t an option is very troubling. The USA can partner with Greenland to develop any rare earths, it mustn’t take them.
I think Vance needs to declare Trump mentally unstable and not fit to lead the country. A sad day for America. I wonder if the Qatari 747 had anything to do with Trump’s backing off Iran? Just imagine the slogans the democrats will come up with for the elections: “Trump Lied, Iranians Died. Trust No Republicans.”

The Danes and Greenlanders have said the US can put as many military bases in Greenland as they need. So it is an option.

American companies are already producing and exploring for minerals in Greenland. That is also not a problem.

Greenland has always been available for the US work with in partnership.

There is no need to take it over.

The US made an agreement to protect Greenland as Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany. Subsequent to the war, the US signed another agreement with Greenland allowing for NATO bases. Please note: At one time the US had nearly 20K troops in Greenland. This number was reduced over time especially post Soviet Union. Trump did not increase US presence from 2017-2021. Instead in 2019: “Well a lot of things can be done,” Trump said on Sunday. “Essentially it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done.” While at same time Kudlow mentioned “a lot of minerals”.

This is a scorched earth President. He has no friends, personally or as President. He has no loyalty or alliances based on shared values. He is the actual antithesis of American values and the role that we have played in the world for the last 100 years.

It takes decades, or longer, of words backed by actions to build alliances and the world order of multilateral cooperation along the lines of shared values, agreed-upon principles, and rules. We are getting very close, if not already there, to crossing the lines that will shatter this earned trust, and it will literally take decades, or longer, to regain it.

Is this really what Trump voters want for their children and the next generation or two of Americans in exchange for tamping down “woke” rhetoric and making fossil fuels great again?

SERIOUSLY, IS THIS WHAT THOSE WHO SUPPORT THIS PRESIDENT WANT FOR AMERICA??

This is how it starts. Trump will again and again state that his reason for acquiring Greenland is about our safety. It is of course not, but he will continue the drumbeat and then dumb folks start to repeat his lie and less dumb folks who listen to Fox will then repeat his lie. This is how he created the fake narrative that the 2020 Election was stolen. No facts just an incessant drumbeat.

People need to start calling out his next move before normalization of taking Greenland happens. Trump thinks he is special, clever, unique and will be crushed when his repetitious pattern to EVERYTHING is called out from the onset. He is just a fat orange old man.

Trump might be using Greenland as a bargaining chip to rattle the E.U. The European Union is in dire financial shape even while they talk like they have unlimited wealth. The Ukraine War would already be over if America had already stopped most of the funding. Little financial support comes from Europe to support an ongoing war. Maybe Trump gets Geenland for the Europeans getting the continued weapons support from America? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gq1e7k2j8o.amp

These tactics that you speculate on are not skillful negotiating; they are mob tactics. Mob tactics can get results, but that is only because there is no real loyalty among criminals, and an ally one day might find a horse’s head in his bed the next. The Mob has no respect for the greater good or win/win; the Mob only knows threats, extortion, and leverage.

These are word of WAR, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea are laughing their asses off I bet. They set out to collapse Russia & got their ass kicked & now they turned on each other. Also, all these countries aided & abetted this insane behaviour by entertaining this idiot by not retaliating in full to his threats. Same story as before. Do the people of Greenland have self determination? Most of the people there would be happy to receive money for the purchase of Greenland by the US. The issue is Denmark has stopped the population from voting. This is the end game and access to vital minerals. The issue is you have a bunch of liberals wanting a pound of flesh stopping the wealth and development of the people who live on Greenland. Give the people of Greenland some green dollars and let them by wealthy not the liberals in Denmark.

Cheery picking DXY data is disingenuous. Since 2011, the trend is clearly up. If you want to look at the chart, the DXY goes up when the rest of world had has got issues. (115) ie Covid. If you thought the US has debt problems, look around the world and especially China. Gold is just the reflection of increased debt around the world. Gold prices are being driven by overseas buyers not wanting their own currency. China will eventually fail because of demographics and misplaced resources; remember the stock market is not the real economy. Cheaper dollars means more trade for the US. As far as education, perhaps you should not swallow the propaganda taught by Keynesians. Look into the dollar milkshake. THE US DOES NOT PRINT MONEY – ONLY BANK RESERVES ARE CREATED BY FED unlike other countries.

US exports and tourism are getting slammed as a result of Trump. Gold and silver exports are masking this. The COMEX and GLD are seeing a far higher percentage of people asking for the physical metal and it is almost certain that a Force Majeure settlement will happen to clear the paper mess of re-hypothication.

Three days ago the US mint suspended the sales of Silver coins and Canada’s mint closed their silver sales yesterday.

US silver eagles went from a listed price of $91 to $164 for the base grade tools of coins. However they are unavailable.

I was an idiot for not stacking when it was cheep but fortunately I have quite a bit of silver and gold mining shares. I expect blowout earnings reports this quarter as margins have increased by 250%.

All you have to do is look at Donald Trump’s life, the people that he surrounded himself with (Roy Coyn, Roger Stone, Mike Tyson, the UFC owner, the WWF owners, Don King, and so on and so on) and look at the people who he handed power to, Stephen Miller, Pete Hegeseth, Pam Bondi, and Robert Kennedy, Jr. for god sake.

Donald Trump will burn it all down if he is allowed. He cares about nothing but his own vanity and wealth. He has stated many times that he is all about ratings, and to him, ratings come from exposure, good or bad; it does not matter.

I have a hard time taking this at face value. Excuse me while I put on my tinfoil hat but aren’t two of Trumps motivations to keep the price of oil low while eventually revaluing gold to offset liabilities?

Taking out Maduro while leaving the rest of the socialist regime in charge is only signalling, not effecting regime change. It may have a temporary impact on further depressing oil prices, at least until people become aware that significant investment is required in what is currently an uninvestible country.

Similarly the additional posturing around Greenland and Iran can further underpin the price of gold. If one desires to revalue gold to help offset liabilities then one would want to revalue from the highest starting price possible, to obtain the highest revaluation.

Maybe this is too simplistic.

Yeah I think the real reason for Greenland is the water resource in the glacial ice. It’s not that far from the East coast so a pipeline could be laid and fresh water shipped to the US mainland from melting glaciers (its no longer than most oil pipelines).

The US is going to have real water shortages in the mid west in a few decades as aquifers dry up and this could be the plan to get the replacement water.

It would make the Alaska pipeline look like the straw in a 7-11 slurpy. New York City – 9million people – uses a billion gallons of water a day.
