Margaret Thatcher With Wild Hair
Boris Johnson is the Donald Trump of Britain.Put on your seat belt and prepare for a wild ride.He will cut through a lot of the conventional wisdom and the European bureaucrats will find he is much smarter and tougher than his predecessor.Think Margaret Thatcher with wild hair.

No Early Elections
Boris Johnson has told Tory MPs he will not hold an early election, saying it was “not a priority”… received a “tubthumping” response

Corbyn Won’t Opt for Motion of No Confidence
Corbyn could force early elections, if he had the votes. But Corbyn just stated he would go for a no confidence vote when it was “appropriate to do so”.
Translation: Corbyn does not have the votes or he thinks Labour would lose the election.
Lie of the Day From Guess Who
@BorisJohnson, please accept my warmest congratulations on your appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
I look forward to working together in the best possible way. pic.twitter.com/27fdjfxrVs— Jean-Claude Juncker (@JunckerEU) July 23, 2019
Interesting First Move by Johnson
It is striking that @BorisJohnson‘s first appointment – to the life-or-death post of chief whip – is a remainer, Mark Spencer. Tory MPs tell me Spencer is likeable and clubbable however. So maybe this is a conciliatory unifying gesture by Johnson. Or maybe it will…

Curiously, selecting a Remainer as his Chief Whip was very well received by even the hard Brexiteers.
Macron Issues Thinly Veiled Warning
Macron offers a veiled warning to Boris Johnson: ‘I want to thank Theresa May for the good work we’ve done together in recent years.
‘She showed a lot of courage and dignity while working with us. She never blocked the functioning of the EU and she tried to serve UK interests.’

Nigel Farage
I wish Boris Johnson well as prime minister with his ‘do or die’ pledge to deliverBrexiton October 31. It is ‘do or die’ not just for Brexit, but for the future of the Conservative party too. Does he have the courage to deliver for the country?
Emergency Meetings Begin
The @Europarl_EN’s Brexit Steering Group will hold an extraordinary meeting tomorrow with @michelBarnier to respond to @BorisJohnson‘s election. The meeting will be followed by an official communication. Looking forward to defending the interest of all Europeans. #Brexit

Fat Chance Department
We look forward to working constructively w/ PM @BorisJohnson when he takes office, to facilitate the ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement and achieve an orderly #Brexit. We are ready also to rework the agreed Declaration on a new partnership in line with #EUCO guidelines.
— Michel Barnier (@MichelBarnier) July 23, 2019
Johnson says the withdrawal agreement as it currently exists, with the backstop, is unacceptable and Barnier says the WA will not be modified.
Trick or Treat?
Nigel Farage asks the key question: Does Johnson have the courage to deliver Brexit?
Will it be Trick or Treat?
The EU thinks there is an 80% chance of no deal. Yet, less than 50% of the UK thinks the UK will leave at all.
Mike “Mish” Shedlock
Basically, meet your new boss. They now believe the same as your old boss.
IMO there will be a no deal or a new deal so similar to what is on the table today as to make them indistinguishable sort of like old NAFTA vs new NAFTA. He will declare victory too….
