A week ago Trump threatened to send missiles to Ukraine. The Wall Street Journal no reports Trump Says He Would Rather End War Than Send Tomahawks to Ukraine
“We’re going to be talking about Tomahawks, and would much rather have them not need Tomahawks,” said Trump. “Would much rather have the war be over, to be honest.”
“I think President Zelensky wants it done, and I think President Putin wants it done now,” he added.
That’s the lie of the day, because if both sides wanted it done, then it would be done.
The fact is neither side wants it done, except on preposterous terms the other side cannot accept.
Trump has in recent weeks openly mused about sending Ukraine long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles as he soured on Russian President Vladimir Putin over his refusal to negotiate an end to the conflict. Trump and Putin spoke at length by telephone on Thursday.
After Zelensky left the White House, Trump posted about the meeting on social media, but didn’t mention Tomahawks. “The meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine was very interesting, and cordial, but I told him, as I likewise strongly suggested to President Putin, that it is time to stop the killing, and make a DEAL!” he said. “They should stop where they are. Let both claim Victory, let History decide! No more shooting, no more Death, no more vast and unsustainable sums of money spent.”
Speaking later in Florida, Trump said that he has told Zelensky and Putin to stop the fighting and “go by the battle line wherever it is or else it gets too complicated. Stop right now at the battle line.”

No one can possibly believe any threat Trump makes. Putin has to be laughing his ass off, repeatedly. This nonsense has been going on since January.
The only way Putin will take Trump seriously now is if Trump does send Tomahawks to Ukraine.
I am not saying that sending Tomahawks to Ukraine is the right policy action. Rather, I am saying that obvious bluffs are not working and may even be counterproductive.
When both sides understand you are a big transparent bluffer, what incentive is there for either side to make a change?
My Stance
My stance is the US created this mess by meddling. I do not like US actions that led to this mess, or the messes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, or Vietnam.
But if you are not willing to send Tomahawks to Ukraine, there is no point in pretending that you are.
If Trump stopped all aid to Ukraine or if Trump sent Tomahawks to Ukraine, the war would likely end sooner rather than later.
Of course, sending Tomahawks to Ukraine would increase the odds of nuclear war. That’s Putin’s threat.

I agree about US meddling being the source for the most of the world’s current troubles. It is the strategy to nullify all the economic or political competition, that Americans cannot afford to buy out.
However, I strongly disagree with the idea about US wanting Ukraine in NATO. This claim is simply stupid. There are also other members in this organization, remember? Seeing how slow most of the Europe was reacting to the “special operation”, it would have been undoable. Americans might have given some false hope to Ukrainians, that was motive for Russians to attack. But most probably this was all intentional. US needed this war to weaken Russia and make it as an example for China, about how expensive any war can be. Before Ukrainian war Chinese were quite arrogant about Taiwan, now they are much more quiet.
Secondly, it made all the NATO members to increase their defense spending: big part of this money coming to US and also improving western military position against China. Also, it cannot go unnoticed, how Israel used this time to close up things in Gaza.
I cannot see a significant loss on the US side. The world is in a mess and US gaining from it. But for how long… very many people in the world are fed up with this kleptocracy.

RUS launches 100’s of drones and missiles. Some will fail and not hit intended targets. But more so, UKR claims to intercept 60-90% of them.
An intercept doesn’t mean they turn to dust. A kinetic intercept, claimed for about 60% of intercepts will result in something between a rain of small bits of metal and a largely intact and still armed device falling to ground in a random place and exploding.

US Tomahawks would force Putin to declare war and basically flatten Kiev in a day. You’re affected by recency bias about mediocre US POTUS polls and projecting USA regime deceitfulness onto other nations that experienced remarkable improvement in the lives of ordinary people and thus have legitimate reasons for high opinion polls.
Some USA POTUS’s enjoyed similar ratings until the current regime replaced JFK. Then there was Vietnam, inflation, a brief recovery due to dropping interest rates down from 19%, Perot’s Giant Sucking Sound of jobs going abroad, endless wars, exponential fascism, GFC, QE, Plandemic.
The USA regime has been fucking the little guy at every turn since the 60’s. Meanwhile, Putin’s Russia escaped the Yeltsin years where Time Ragazine proudly proclaimed USA involvement (while the lifespan there dropped IIRC more than 10 years) and China’s CPC brought 700m people (twice the size of USA) out of poverty.
USA regime media tries hard to pretend things can’t possibly be better elsewhere or improve faster without a dose of DC occupation though. So plenty of people wont believe what I just said.
What Trump is proposing (stopping the war at the current battlelines) is not unreasonable in my view. The problem is, Zelensky unrealistically wants all the territory they lost during the war.
The only way that could happen is if the U.S. puts boots on the ground (with Lindsey Graham at the front of the line of course) in an all out war with Russia.

Seems to me if the disputed land was part of russia it would have the lines drawn that way when the soviet union broke up. Looks like a land grab so putin can raise wheat to sell to africa. To consolidate power there.

Russia grows a lot more wheat than the Ukraine. If Putin wanted the Ukraine’s wheat fields, he wouldn’t have offered peace in June of 2024 if the Ukraine had simply agreed to stay out of NATO and relinquish Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson.

The vast majority of the Donbas are Russian and don’t want to be part of Zelinskys fiefdom. If the neo Nazis tried a guerilla campaign in the Donbas they would have little local support, lots of hostile locals and any harassment would invite military retaliation against rump Ukraine. And if rump Ukraine is de-nazified then Zelinskys guerillas would then also be up against a moderate Ukrainian government.

The four Ukrainian provinces that chose to be part of Russia by referendums are now Russia territory in its constitution. It’s too late to negotiate such territories.
