CPAC Video Clip
I may even decide to beat them a third time – Donald Trump talking about the democrats in 2024. I see him all the time but I still miss him on the world stage. Simply awesome! pic.twitter.com/KjkQgpJ0ZS

The Trumpian lap dogs of course cheered the lie that Trump won. Even the WSJ openly calls out Trump’s lies on the matter.
Donald Trump is Missed
So does most of the media, so they can mock them. https://t.co/vJ8OIHk8bn

If We Idolize One Person, We Lose
GOP Senator Bill Cassidy summed things with this brave comment: ‘If we idolize one person, we will lose‘
“If we idolize one person, we will lose,” Cassidy told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.” “And that’s kind of clear from the last election.”
Cassidy, a moderate, was one of seven GOP senators who joined all Senate Democrats in voting to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial, but the 57 guilty votes fell well-short of the 67 needed to convict the former President, resulting in his acquittal on the charge of inciting the January 6 insurrection.
“If we plan to win in 2022 and 2024, we have to listen to the voters. Not just those who really like President Trump, but perhaps those who are less sure,” he said. “If we speak to the voters who are less sure that went from President Trump to President Biden, we win. If we don’t, we lose. That is a reality that we have to confront.”
I believe Cassidy nailed it, but I am a bit biased. I said the same things myself long before he did.
Flashback February 9
Here’s an Impeachment Trial flashback as I saw things on February 9.
Trump Dominance is Over
The Trump era is over. As noted Liz Cheney Marks a Welcome New Chapter in the Trump Era
Also, Senator Ben Sasse has me cheering. He delivered a scathing attack on the Nebraska GOP Central Committee.
For discussion and a must play video that went viral, please see Senator Ben Sasse Has Me Cheering. Please Listen Why.
While many Republicans want to hide behind a rock, some are willing to speak out.
And Trump’s legal nightmare over tax fraud is about to begin. He pledged to “return in some way” and will, but it will be a lesser way.
All he can do now is make a mess of the party and a fool of himself if he tries a 2024 comeback.
Trump Won’t Run
I highly doubt Trump will run. He couldn’t take losing a second time.
Instead, he says he “may” run and will go on saying that for years to stay in the limelight.
“May run” will keep the media salivating for some time and that is Trump’s intent.
However, the discussion will soon turn from running for president to serious legal issues.

Not Liking Trump Does Not Mean Liking Biden
You can live with yourself and so can I.
Proud to have voted but for neither of them. https://t.co/5cl9CE1h7l

Poor Assumptions
I did vote for Trump in 2016
But as a Libertarian I could no longer take his tariffs, sanctions, belittling people, massive budget proposals, military spending, weapons to Saudi Arabia, and warmongering against Iran.

As a Libertarian I could no longer take his tariffs, sanctions, belittling people, massive budget proposals, military spending, weapons to Saudi Arabia, and warmongering against Iran.
My complaints against Trump are about actions and policies.
I voted for him in 2016 but could not take it in 2020.
Clowns to the Left and Right
Libertarians are disgusted with the clowns on the Left and the clowns on the Right.
I will mostly be bashing Biden for the next 4 years but perhaps he works out a deal with Iran that I will praise. I praised Trump for some things too.
It’s about policy, not party, not person.
Mish
This would be… amazing. link to coffsharbourdrivinglessons.com
It is insulting these idiots at CPAC–noting I consider myself a conservative–bring out their golden calf with the Constitution in hand. Trump had no considerations of the Constitution and in fact weakened it with acts like his national emergency for the wall and his banning of bump stocks by executive fiat.
Clearly CPAC stands for Circus Political Action Committee since it isn’t a body that advances Constitutional and small government conservatism.
Wonder what a second Trump presidency looks like? Obamacare further cemented as law of the land? Ten trillion more in debt in four short years? Massive redistribution of wealth schemes like we saw with the stimulus? What did you anti-socialist warriors spend your Trump branded Bernie Sanders redistribution of wealth stimulus check on? More gun control by executive fiat? More taxes in the form of tariffs?
You know since the first four years was stellar conservatism at its best… LOL
In only four years, Trump took us to the brink of the end of the Republic, including a coup attempt to overthrow it. It was a weak coup attempt, but still a coup attempt. Had he had another 4 years to cement his control over the military and other branches of government, who knows what might have happened.
Now that a day has passed, Trump’s TPAC performance was subpar. He polled poorly among attendees as to whether they want to see him run again and his speech felt tired and low energy
Trump fatigue syndrome is real. TDS has turned to TFS.
So Mish you agree with open borders? He had our military take care of ISIS pretty quickly. Didn’t like that either? I think for you to make an educated decision on the illegals crossing the border you should visit many areas on the border and talk to the border patrol. I’ve seen over 400 miles of it, easy decision for me now that I got educated on the subject.
Trump still living in liberals heads rent free, love it. Trump 2024
I discovered this carmel popcorn at the grocers and its awesome even with out the peanuts that is in Craker Jack its way better I think I will be stocking up on it
The Golden Golem of Trump pretty much says it all.
Mexican Trump?
The artist behind the golden statue of former President Trump at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this weekend said that it was made in Mexico.
Artist Tommy Zegan, who lives in Mexico as an American expat on a permanent resident visa, told Politico Playbook on Saturday that he spent more than six months creating the 200-pound statue.
Zegan, with the help of three men in his home city of Rosarito, constructed the statue out of fiberglass and painted it in chrome before transporting it to CPAC this weekend in Orlando, Fla.
This cult isn’t close to being over yet. No mention of 4 or 5 people who died in the riot/insurrection and life just goes on. Kiss the ring and everything is “good”.
I think I remember something about idolizing a golden calf in the book of Moses when I was a kid?
This reminds me of Hillary after she lost in 2016. A lot of talk about running in 2020. Even some hints from her. I doubt Trump will run again. You don’t see many overweight men approaching 80. Much less ones who could do a presidential campaign.
Hillary after losing in 2016 wasn’t the head of the Democatic party but somehow Trump ‘s the head of the Republican party? He only got 55% in the TPAC straw poll. Trump is dead. He just won’t lie down
Cant remember anything about Hillary running after 2016. She literally went for a walk and barely uttered a word and was against challenging the results of the election even though some wackos on left wanted her to.
I couldn’t help notice that the CPAC stage was designed to resemble the shape of a Nazi symbol. This kind a thing is not accidental and is designed to send a message to the very same right wing , white nationalist groups that have made inroads into the Republican party , some of which were involved in the storming of the capitol. The Republican party if it keeps this up will ensure it’s a regional party at best not taken seriously by anyone
Interesting. I had never heard of an “odal rune” before this, nor did I realize this symbol was a Nazi symbol. Apparently there are multiple variants for the Odal Rune. A search for it on wikipedia shows a couple of other variations used by the Nazis as well, one with no “feet”, another with flat edges on the “feet”, and still another with arrows on the feet.
Is it possible that the designer was aware of Odal runes, and did this intentionally? Sure. Is it possible that he had seen it somewhere before, and had it in his mind, without realizing the meaning? That’s also possible. Is it possible that he just drew a creative stage without knowledge at all of odal runes, either direct, or subliminal? Sure. The shape actually makes a functional stage, with entrances from both sides, and paths to the center speaking area.
Use of any Nazi symbol is an abomination, and the fact that it was used by the right wing makes this usage suspect. Nevertheless, without being inside the designer’s head, I can’t know for sure if it was intentional, especially since I was personally unaware of this symbol.
Forget about policy for a moment. Trump was undisciplined and erratic. His decisions were visceral and often he obsessed over failures. Steve Bannon thought he had early signs of dementia
Trump is losing strength according to Karl Rove. Trump only got 55% approval in the CPAC straw poll. Only 55% of the CPAC crowd would vote for Trump in a primary.
Trump knows he can fleece his followers from their dollars the longer he keeps up this act.
Mish, I am just curious: as libertarian how do you see Paul Ryan who calls himself the same?
More money for Trump. These QAnon people are suckers and losers.
Libertarians are disgusted with the clowns on the Left and the clowns on the Right.
It wouldn’t matter who wss in charge Libertarians would be disgusted because they are always disgusted. Libertarianism is the Trump equivalent of thinking he won in his head. It only exists in theory.
That’s a ridiculous if not idiotic comment.
Yes, the ideal Libertarian world does not exist. Nor will it.
You imply it makes no sense to try.
Worse yet, it is indeed 100% idiotic to equate this to Trump claiming he one.
There is no Libertarian who would claim we have it.
It’s just a demonstration that he doesn’t understand the complexity of the political spectrum. The odds are high that he holds some beliefs that are consistent with Libertarianism, unless he’s pro-Dictatorship, in which case, it’s surprising he didn’t like Trump.
Here is the Republican party in a nutshell today:
I can keep going.
The Republican party platform was written by Trump and will stay that way for the foreseeable future.
Wrong in so many ways.
Well, he’s not wrong.
“anti government of any kind”
Wrong on at least two
Huge big on Military Spending
Trump also agreed with Biden’s money handout
Under Trump Republicans gave up having a platform. It’s a cult of personality. They could have called the event TPAC. GOP stands for anything Trump says at the moment
Can you think of a single pro-white nationalist policy adopted or pushed forward by Republicans?
I certainly can’t. I doubt you can actually name one either. Can you? I’ll keep waiting.
Gee I don’t know perhaps naming a white nationalist racist Stephen Miller as the immigrant czar should help as far as examples go…. just saying
That is neither a policy or something pushed forward by Republicans. I specifically asked for policy or program that was a pro-white policy.
Ad hominem attacks are not an answer to that query.
Well, Trump did eliminate the Woke-shaming “diversity and inclusion” training for federal employees, but I’m sure it’s back, or will be shortly.
I don’t like that training or consider opposing it to be “white nationalist” but I guarantee you there are those who do consider to be exactly that. It just depends on your POV.
Trump also got mixed up in the role of gay people in military service….which also was just aimed at making the rednecks happy, as far as I can tell. Is that white nationalist exactly?……well, it’s debatable.
The GOP platform is a collection of red flags to madden the various bulls that make up the modern conservative movement.
C_O has it down pretty good. Anything meaty, red, and raw. The more corn fed the better. None of that grass feed organic shit that’s better for you. It’s all about raising passion. That’s all Trump knows how to do and all he will ever know how to do. There’s no platform, just reactionism. I just made that up but it sounds good. Maybe there’s a better word?
Sasse and Cheney are going to get primaried and even those seats have a shot of flipping to the Dems given the flood of California moderates moving to places like Wyoming.
I also think there is a good chance Don Jr becomes the nominee in 2024 as Trump hands the reins over to his son. But Americans in general are done with the Republcian party of insurrections who were okay with the attack on the Capitol.
Biden may not survive this term given his age but more places are turning blue coast to coast. This is bad news for Republicans in places like Tezas, Arizona and Georgia.
As Republicans seek to make it harder to vote they are going.to find it harder to win elections this way. Also most of the 500k covid deaths were older people who tend to vote Republican. Younger family members will remember those deaths as a Republican failure.
If Trump is still alive, there will be no subtitutes for the real thing allowed.
Sasse may get primaried, but that is six years away, a long time in politics. Also, Nebraska is a very peculiar state when it comes to politics. In the past, it has repeatedly elected politicians of both parties who bucked their national party and showed an independent streak.
I’m fine with Trump controlling the party and losing more senate seats in 2022. The Republicans think they can take the house back by running more Trump backed candidates in targeted districts but this wont work because more people are leaving the Republican party. The power disaster in Texas will he remembered as a Republican led disaster. I’m encouraging all democrats to register for Republican primaries where they can and vote for the candidate Trump backs. This will be the strategy to make the government a landslide to the Democrats in the general.
That sounds maybe a bit too complacent.
Democrats eeked out wins in Georgia and only managed to tie Republicans in the Senate. That’s not really a large margin of error.
If Democrats get complacent in 2022 they can easily lose the Senate and the House.
I was thinking they should do the opposite of what you suggest, vote in R primaries against the Trumpists.
I’ve done it before, and I’ll probably do it again. Not much downside, other than all the fundraising emails they send me…lol. But I get a lot of those anyway, because of my demographic.
That primary strategy of promoting Trump failed badly in 2016. Should work better in 2024, but I don’t trust it as much as needed to feel okay about it.
