Itching for War, US Bombs Syria, Sends 900 More Troops to the Mideast

The US strikes on suspected Iranian-supported bases in Syria calling it self defense. Israel Intensifies the war in Gaza.

U.S. Launches Strikes on Suspected Iranian-Supported Bases in Syria

The Wall Street Journal reports U.S. Launches Strikes on Suspected Iranian-Supported Bases in Syria

The strikes against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and affiliated groups were authorized by President Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

“These precision self-defense strikes are a response to a series of ongoing and mostly unsuccessful attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militia groups that began on Oct. 17,” Austin said in a statement.

The Pentagon said it struck a weapons and an ammunition storage facility in Abu Kamal, Syria, near the border with Iraq and described the strikes as self-defense measures separate from its military support of Israel. The U.S. said F-16s carried out the strikes, but didn’t say what kind of ordnance it used, how many strikes it conducted or where the American jet fighters originated from.

The U.S. didn’t hit sites where it had determined militia groups launched strikes on American forces, a U.S. defense official said. Rather, the U.S. decision to hit the two Syrian sites was intended to send a message to militia groups in the region that the U.S. would respond to threats to its forces, the official said, while mitigating the risk of escalation.

In the past 10 days, U.S. forces have come under fire at least 19 times in Iraq and Syria, Pentagon officials said Thursday, updating earlier figures. Attacks on Thursday included one an air base in Erbil, Iraq, hosting U.S. troops. In addition, a U.S. warship intercepted missiles in the Red Sea fired from Yemen last week.

Sending a Message

Allegedly, we are only “sending a message”.

But it seems to me that if the US did not have troops in Syria where they don’t belong and were not invited (an act of war by the US), then the troops would not have been attacked, and thus no counterattack message would need to be sent.

I suspect my line of reasoning might be too logical to make any sense, especially when there is plenty of support for starting a war in Iran.

If bombing Iran is the real mission, this is a good start. The Vietnam War started from such lies and pretenses.

Also note the US did not even strike at targets that attacked the US. Apparently there were better targets elsewhere.

Better targets is the rationale Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld used to start the War in Iraq despite the fact that it was Saudi nationals responsible for taking down the twin towers on 9/11 not Iraqis.

What’s the Real Message?

I suggest it’s the US is itching for war despite the official denial: “The United States does not seek conflict and has no intention nor desire to engage in further hostilities, but these Iranian-backed attacks against U.S. forces are unacceptable and must stop,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

To stop the attacks on US troops, I have a simple suggestion: Don’t put them where they have no business.

No good as ever came from US meddling in Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, or Afghanistan. Why should this be any different.

Israeli Airstrikes Intensify in Gaza

Israel-Hamas War Rages as Gaza Deaths Mount

CNN has Live Updates on the Israel-Hamas War.

The Israel Defense Forces’ troops are “operating forcefully” on all fronts in order to fulfill its goals in the war with Hamas, and will “continue striking Gaza City and keep calling upon civilians to evacuate south,” IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Friday.

UN members are preparing to vote on a resolution calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the war between Israel and Hamas so that humanitarian aid can reach civilians in the battered enclave of Gaza. The vote is expected at 3 p.m. ET.

There is no explicit criticism of Hamas in the General Assembly resolution currently under debate. Hamas, which controls Gaza, sparked the latest outbreak in violence after its October 7 terror attacks in Israel that left more than 1,400 dead.

Jawwal, the Palestinian telecom company that provides mobile service to the Gaza Strip released a statement Friday night, saying “the intense bombardment in the past hour has resulted in the destruction of all remaining international routes connecting Gaza with the outside world” leading to a “complete interruption of telecommunications services.”

According to the US Congressional Office there have been [about] 295 military incursions by the US since 1990.

Messing around with the rest of the globe, threatening or using military force, interfering in their politics with bought off NGO type influence — it’s what you do for a living. The US throws tens of thousands of tons of ordinance on a continual basis.

Thanks for your hard work and great thoughts Mish. I do have a gripe but it is broad. When it says ‘the US’ did such, I feel the real responsible party is never named, and the shameful actions are blamed on US inaccurately. It is better to name the bad actor such as Biden, Romney, Graham, Schumer, Schiff or whoever. Please don’t just attribute to all including the good people. Thank you.

There are people in the USA government wishing Israel level Gaza. No concern for other people. No concern of Karma. Denying there is a supreme spirit or God.
They don’t know human history or how their nation was founded on the beliefs of a supreme entity.
These politicians truly believe they are the supreme beings by their words and actions.
History says judgement day will come for them.

1) Saddam tried to assassinate papi Bush. He paid the price, hanged in a private viewing. Papi B and Clinton stabbed GW Bush in the back.
2) Syria was infected by the Arab spring. Hafez Al Assad slaughtered 30K Muslim Bros in Homs. King Hussain kicked the Palestinian to Lebanon, saved by Israel. Nasrallah was saved by Israel from Yasser Arafat. Arafat’s Fatahland was destroyed in Lebanon.
3) Khadafi mums was Jewish. Cousins in Israel.
4) Medvedev is half Jewish. Putin has over one million Russian ex patriots in Israel.

1) US main valve controls the flow of everything in the ME. US forces keep volatility down. Iranianian proxies attacked it from Iraq and Syria. Yemen launched drones and missile attack, but Iran herself is on the sideline. Without the US the ME will be in a bigger mess. US beefed up its forces in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and western Iraq.
2) Gaza is under fire. Hamas HQ is under Shifa hospital. Israel skirmishes are deeper. It might be a decoy. Hamas is spread too thin.
3) Hezbollah’s skirmishes are low grades.
4) Qatar emir’s wife CMU commencement speech, 2008 : we want to educate our children for a better future. US Seventh fleet HQ is in Qatar. Qatar is a relay station between US & Iran and between Israel & Hamas. Within a decade :
5) Option I : Israel and the Palestinian will live in one open state, not two, not three.
6) Option II : Israel, Gaza and the west bank will be an Egyptian colony.

If a war is inevitable then it is better to wage it on someone else’s real-estate. That’s why we didn’t wait for the Nazis and the Japanese Empire to invade California and the East Coast before deciding to fight.

Where’s Zardoz when you need his patented kookoo moniker.

First, Arabs (aka Palestinians) & Jews lived peacefully side-by-side for several millennia. Yes, the whole region was conquered over and over from outside invaders. The Brits are the ones who called the shots for about 30 years, BTW.

It wasn’t until Zionism became a thing in the late 1800’s that seemed to piss off the Arabs, who have turned down at least two 2-state offers. The current terrorist, Hamas, want a 1-state solution that includes the destruction of Israel, but you already know this and may even support the means to the end.

Nice try at painting a mostly untrue picture. Take your medicine please, TT.

What would starting a war in Iran do ? I don’t seriously believe the US or most in congress want a more negative public opinion after Afghanistan and Iraq. Seems to me if Syria is allowing Iranian-backed militias to fire into Iraq, then a message on their weapons and not people does need to be sent and this is exactly what the US did with the permission of the Iraqi government. The US is there to protect Iraq’s interests and doesn’t want another Iran-Iraq (Sunni-Shia) war. Iran, Palestine (Hamas), Jordan, Syria and other Sunnis are playing the game of public perception against Israel and the US. Many of these countries simply want the Ottoman (Sunni) empire to come back and for Israel, Iraq and a few others to be wiped off the map but they won’t openly come out and say it. In the end many of these countries fear a western democracy b/c of it means people can be free to practice their religion. If Iraq doesn’t want the US there, then they wouldn’t be there. This is why the US left Afghanistan after their country elected the Taliban again. I’m guessing Iraq doesn’t want to go down the path of Afghanistan and actually wants US help in protecting their borders.

“To stop the attacks on US troops, I have a simple suggestion: Don’t put them where they have no business.”

Iraq still wants the US to protect their borders. This is why they are in Iraq.

War. What is good for? Absolutely nothing. That’s what the lyrics in the song say but the sheep need to be sheared of all their possessions every so often to benefit the ruling class behind the curtain and keep workers in destitute while continuing to struggle daily to survive.

Who in Iraq wants US troops there? I suspect only the criminals in charge who are cashing in on not getting beheaded by the masses I highly doubt the average guy on the street wants us there

“The US is there to protect Iraq’s interests…”

Is this supposed to be sarcasm? Because that is the only way it makes sense. What problem has the US solved (or even ameliorated) in that region over the past many decades? Not a single one. On the contrary, it has exacerbated every problem that it claimed to be able to solve.

Agree, there are deep state warmongers who have been talking about how to take out syria, iraq and iran for the past 20 years. Those who voted for Biden enabled all of this and should accept this fact. Those who voted for trump voted for peace. Around this, there is no debate. It is what it is. Gullible people could not see through mean tweets and braggadocio to see the real man undernearth. These same people fell for the job biden smile and could not see the real man/men running the puppet.

My dad says Newsmax is reporting that the two buildings we bombed in Syria were empty.

If true, then that shows us yet again how inept FJB & his DoD are.

Just a bunch of circus clowns.

The regional enemy is Iran.

That is why US created Daish, sustains Kurds, funds Al Qaeda, and steal Syrian oil.

Also why Sunni terror abides with Israel.

Twisted, the US empire has no moral foundation and no morality in its destruction, and long range murder.

War criminals: Biden, eight wars.
Trump (to his credit, he did not start a new war), but oversaw Afghanistan.
Obama, seven wars.
Clinton, Iraq
Bush II, Iran, the list goes on.
Because of the censorship and propaganda, for most people ‘war’ is abstract, some far away place.
After Vietnam, the military became “professional”.
Only very few Americans actually experience war firsthand.
The media never refers to our “leaders” as war criminals.
Way?
