Iran Cancels Negotiations with US Over Lebanon, Oil Surges 8 Percent

Hello Mr. President, about your claim Iran is desperate for a deal.

Iran Telegram Halts Talks

English Translation (Emphasis Mine)

Tasnim News Agency
Urgent / Iran stops the exchange of messages with America in protest against the Zionist crimesDetermination of the armed forces of Iran and all axes of the Resistance Front for responding to the crimes of the Zionists and opening new fronts.

  • Information obtained by Tasnim indicates that, due to the continuation of the crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon, and taking into account that Lebanon was one of the preconditions of the ceasefire and that this ceasefire has now been violated in all fronts including Lebanon, the Iranian negotiating team has stopped the dialogues and the exchange of texts through the mediator.
  • The immediate stop of the aggressive and savage operations of the army of the Zionist regime in Gaza and Lebanon, and the necessity of the complete withdrawal of the regime from the occupied areas in Lebanon, has been emphasized by Iranian officials and negotiators. And until the view/demand of Iran and the Resistance in this regard is met, there will be no dialogue.
  • Also, the Resistance Front and Iran have placed on their agenda the complete blockage/closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the activation of other fronts including the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb, in order to punish the Zionists and their supporters.

Context / Summary:This is a strongly worded Iranian statement signaling the suspension of indirect negotiations with the United States (which have been conducted via mediators, especially regarding the Gaza/Lebanon ceasefire).

Iran also threatens to escalate by activating other fronts if Israel does not stop operations in Gaza and Lebanon and withdraw from Lebanese territory.

Tasnim is a hardline Iranian news agency close to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), so this reflects the official Iranian position.

Oil Prices Surge on the Announcement

  • West Texas Intermediate surged by $7.01, 8 percent to $94.37
  • Brent is up 6.85 percent to $97.39

Another day like today would have oil back over $100 in the US.

Cave WI-FI Is Improving

This is worth a note: Cave WI-FI in Iran is improving.

Lie of the Day May 31, 2026

Truth Social: Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us. But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively “chirping,” at levels never seen before, over and over again, that I should move faster, or move slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or whatever. Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end – It always does! President DJT

May 31, 2026, 11:02 PM

Trump is now blaming the “Dumocrats” for the stupid war that he started. It’s obvious to the world that he is the one desperate for a deal.

Today’s announcement from Iran is more believable than anything Trump says.

Iran knows the longer they hold out, the worse it is for Trump and the West including the United States. There is no way Iran is negotiating in good faith. They will bluff and delay and look for any reason to buy more time — that’s all they’ve got left. The only effective way to communicate to them is through force. All of this “negotiating” is only a tactic to buy them more time.

I’m sure Iran feels the same way, they can blow up desalination plants and the rest of the oil infrastructure in the Middle East then the world economy collapses then the US economy collapses.

Ron how do you differentiate in your mind between negotiating in good vs bad faith? How would you define Trump’s style, good faith, not good faith, or something else?

Iran gave the US its positions. The US chose not to accept them. Iran isn’t trying to stall anything. They’re just not willing to give up their sovereignty.

I think it’s safe to say that even if by some miracle we had some sort of deal today which we won’t, oil is going to deplete and we will hit a huge spike and it’s going to stay there for a very long while.

Higher diesel costs are going to drive up the cost of everything across America over the next few months. International shipping costs will go through the roof. All of this plus tariff nonsense are going to crush pocketbooks.

So how’s Trump working out for ya?

Do worry, Trump & Walrus will find a way to make things even worse.™

this just shows how effn blinded the US is by their media

radio silence on the potential effects of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon

“oh gee, why did Iran pull back on talks ??”

it was always a key part of Iran’s demands, but the US media has ignored the potential blowback for weeks

Well everyone knows who owns press, TV and social media in the US and elsewhere, so there you have the reason for the news blackout on Lebanon and Israel continuing to heat the kettle.
No wonder no-one reads newspapers and watches TV anymore, under 80 that is.

I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back. Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Now that’s what I call a fold! In… thirty minutes? Yep, they’re BEGGING for a deal mister president.

Unfortunately Trump can’t contain Israel (and can’t decide for Israel what it can and cannot do), for if he could the attacks Lebanon has received from Israel the last week (or so) wouldn’t have happened.

This is just another stunt by Trump to manipulate both the optics and markets.

Notify me when Iran gets back to the negotiation table, not the stupid chatter of a lone king.

When Trump cannot control his id or his ego, do you think he has a chance of controlling Israel? That’s rhetorical and meant for all other readers, not you.

Are you being sarcastic, or do you literally believe that Trump is speaking accurately here and that the Iranians will announce they have agreed to these items?

I would not consider believing Trump, but if Iran says they agreed to it, I will believe them. Why believe what Trump is telling us Iran wants when Iran knows exactly what they want? Is it because you think Trump knows the Iranians better than they know themselves, and if not, what is your reasoning?

Every day with the strait closed brings us closer to a global economic catastrophe.

Trump is still trying to figure out how to blame Obama and Biden. Rather than fixing the problem he created.

I trade a lot. Bought a crap load of Canadian oil stocks last week on the pullback. Sold about 2/3 of them today. Still holding my core positions for the longer term but love trading this volatility. Same names for a while now; mostly Canadian Natural, Suncor, Cenovus, Whitecap, Tamarack, Cardinal, Baytex, Athabasca, Strathcona.

Waiting for a pullback into the close on new rumours.

What a show!

Perhaps this is all a giant ploy to curtail international travel and lower demand/prices for world cup tickets so they are ‘affordable’ for US residents. I bet that 5-D thinking didn’t even cross your mind.

Sure, you may rightly view that possibility as nonsense, but it is more credible than what typically gets posted to .
