My initial thoughts on Musk’s ridiculous looking truck proved accurate.
Demand Evaporates After Initial Hype
The Wall Street Journal comments Tesla’s Polarizing Cybertruck to Wind Down Production Amid Slow Sales
Tesla will wind down production of the Cybertruck at its gigafactory in Texas next year, Chief Executive Elon Musk said.
The decision also comes as the stainless-steel pickup has suffered from slow demand. In October, 1,914 Cybertrucks were registered in the U.S., according to data from Motor Intelligence. By comparison, Ford sold more than 70,000 F-Series trucks last month.
Musk unveiled a prototype for the Cybertruck in 2019 with high expectations, including deeming it superior to Ford’s top-selling F-150.
The Cybertruck’s design, said to be inspired by the iconic stainless steel DeLorean DMC-12, proved instantly shocking. So did the truck’s debut event: Musk asked his head of design to throw a metal ball at the vehicle’s supposedly armored window, which infamously cracked instead.
By late 2023, Musk had claimed more than a million reservations had been placed for the truck, and its initial hype was strong.
But its sales faded quickly. Its reputation has been tarnished among many Tesla fans because of a spate of recalls and manufacturing issues that have resulted in cycles of repairs. Its looks also proved polarizing, and to many, synonymous with Musk’s shift to far right-wing politics.
The first time I saw a Cybertruck, I wondered how anyone could be stupid enough to buy one.
The truck launched in 2019, struggling for most of those seven years.
It’s slow death lasted two years longer than I thought, but its fate was never in question.
The Cybertruck is now on the ash heap of history, where it always belonged.

Going on a 3-day 2-night backpacking trip.
I will not be able to approve anything that gets caught up needing approval. Multiple links are one possible snare.

Need a break from this.
But I have many posts scheduled. Three Saturday and I think Three Sunday too. So keep checking.
Some really cool ones Including “Texas Goes Purple and What It Means”
Someone please post this message on my Saturday and Sunday articles.

Enjoy your break Mish! You deserve it!
It’s no debate. The Tesla pickup was a bigger flop than the Pontiac Aztek. There were 120K Azteks built over a 5 year period vs 2K Cyber Trucks built over 7 years.
The Edsel of pickups.
so Trillionaires get it wrong sometimes too.
China’s global EV sales prove a simple point: consumers outside Oceania want inexpensive cars they can recharge inexpensively. But would Oceania’s serfs think differently if the Great Wurlitzer wasn’t telling them what to think?
Hypothesis: The Wurlitzer started passing around the “EVs are losing popularity!” meme a couple of years ago because: (a) the MIC anticipated wanting to conserve rare earths for weapons rather than civilian motors, and (b) legacy automakers prefer to die slowly on their premium ICE hill than innovate and cannibalize their own sales.
It’s happening in Yrop [Europe] too. Remember the pearl-clutching “we must tariff China imports because our ports are filling up with unwanted EVs!” meme? The panoramic photos didn’t specify the brands. The close-ups even featured non-Chinese brands. The photos should have supported the headline but instead undermined it. The article’s claims seemed weak then, and they seem weak now.
I knew of at least one local newspaper started by “local” transnational businessmen not because they wanted to deliver better news but to promote their own interests. I doubt any major EU rag avoids carrying water for Stellantis and the legacy cartel.
The Air Force’s E-4B “Nightwatch,” the airborne command post built to run a nuclear war, took off from Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska on Thursday and flew east across the Midwest on a mission nobody has explained.
Where do u find updates on this?
daily mail or zerohedge or other consolidators.
there is almost no reason why
they would or should tell anyone anything about that
if you know so do others who should not
One of the most god awful looking vehicles ever. Absolutely no one is going to miss it when it goes beyond a handful of fanboys.
Ironically here in South Florida about 90% of the ones I see are wrapped in another color. Not even those who bought them want that stainless steel look.
Fond farewell, Tesla Dumpster! We hardly got to know ya! LOL
Never liked the looks of the Cybertruck. People that really use a pick-up for daily work activities would never buy a Cybertruck. That being said, I have read that professional semi-truck drivers are very impressed after they have had a test drive in the Tesla semi.
hate elmo musk, but i actually liked the looks of them. but i also like 69 eldorados. i remember watching the live rollout of it with elmo smashing them with sledge hammers. i have a few side bets with buddies about over under on elmo producing bastard babies through fornication or mailing his sperm out to women. i’m at 1000 bastards by the time it’s all done. even if he croaks off tonight.
LOL. Like the Dutch sperm donor who fathered > 500 until he was ordered to stop, lest his offspring inadvertently start breeding with each other. How did you like El Caminos? My fave was the Amphicar Model 770.
el caminos were fucking rad.
Elon Musk shutters his ugly truck plant while China EV sales are through the global roof.

BYD sold 483,125 passenger cars in October 2026 globally. Specifically, BYD’s Dynasty and Ocean series sold 423,843 vehicles, Fang Cheng Bao sold 43,872, Denza sold 15,152, and Yangwang sold 258.
I think the grand irony of Trump’s 10 year tariff journey (starting in first term 2016, Biden kept in 2020 and Trump continued in 2024 thru ….) is this failure right here of Elon’s EV truck.
China will continue to push ahead making EV cars better, cheaper and more efficient while the US lags further behind and tariffs didn’t do a damn thing to stop it.
And around the world sans U.S., China is king…
https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/global-ev-sales-growth-hits-23-october-research-firm-says-2025-11-12/
China is the world’s biggest car market and accounts for more than half of global EV sales, which in Rho Motion’s data include battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
Lots of production capacity, and falling demand, within China for EVs…
this would be a ideal time to tap that market for US consumers.
correct.
That was the ugliest car in history.

50 years from now ain’t anyone gonna be restoring a 2026 Cybertruck.
Yes. It will become a huge collectors item.
meanwhile: Effective today, the president signed a proclamation that he claims will prevent any of his successors from making any changes to the Oval Office and Cabinet rooms that he has redesigned over the last two years to serve as a diet version of Mar-a-Lago.
Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office, the president said, “People, every time they walk through those doors, they want to just examine it, look at it. You could never do that. You couldn’t build a space that would have that kind of importance.”
He then went on to announce that he is “going to be declaring it a national monument.”
“We’re going to send it over to Congress to have it ratified,” he said. “It will not be allowed to be touched by anybody, destroyed, ripped down by stupid people in order to build something in a slightly different shape.”
Since Trump took it upon himself to set precedent about ignoring laws, regulations, and following protocols, the next president can just ignore them as well and do as they please with the White House.
Nothing to ignore. This is beyond stupid. I did not have time tin write about it.
It is impossible to make an executive order that is binding on the next president
I don’t know why anyone would not buy this car
https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/The-Simpsons-Homer-car.jpg
I don’t own one, never wanted to — until I followed the Twitter link in this post. So many people saying it was the best vehicle they ever owned. Oh well, I’m not buying one now. Imagine trying to service it in 2028 and beyond.
My friends and I, all with GMC Diesels, called it the “Tesla FUGLY.”
RIP, electric Edsel.
