Canucks Situation
There are 14 players on the list. They are Travis Boyd, Thatcher Demko, Alex Edler, Adam Gaudette, Travis Hamonic, Jayce Hawyrluk, Braden Holtby, Bo Horvat, Quinn Hughes, Zack MacEwen, Tyler Motte, Tyler Myers, Antoine Roussel and Brandon Sutter.
The Athletic reports that the number is more than 14 as the team submitted other players on the taxi squad and one that is considered a “high-risk close contact.” It also said that members of the coaching staff have been confirmed positives.
British Columbia has seen increasing COVID-19 cases: posting back-to-back days of daily records (1,018 cases between Thursday and Friday and 1,072 between Friday and Saturday, according to the Vancouver Sun. According to multiple reports, several cases within the team have been connected with the P.1 variant, which is thought to be more contagious. This variant first emerged in Brazil and was detected in the United States at the end of January 2021, according to the CDC.
“At St. Paul’s Hospital we’ve actually identified more P.1 variants than the entire United States,” Dr. Marc Romney, co-author and medical leader of the microbiology and virology department at the facility, said on March 26. “This is concerning because P.1 is associated with immune evasion.”

It’s frustrating watching people overstate and understate what’s going on.
Let’s get everyone vaccinated and return to normal.
Meanwhile a bit of Vitamin D therapy for shut-ins and the D-deficient is inexpensive, can’t hurt except for overdoses, and is likely to help.

A few other data points:
Shut down everything because of the flu, nice 😐
I’m sure you’re just being facetious, but obviously:
This year is statistically just a really bad year for the flu. Just like 1957 and 1968 were. In both those years, deaths and infections were likely way under reported since there was no way to test like we have now.
Even with all the advances in medical tracking, deaths from the flu are under-reported every year. The CDC is never able to actually track more than about 5-7,000 deaths in any given year, and so they rely on “excess deaths” to estimate totals of 20-50,000 in most years. I suppose that going forward, though, those that deny that there were Covid deaths will now start denying that anyone ever dies of the flu (after all, almost all of the 5-7000 identified deaths are either old or have comorbidities), which is extremely sad. The flu does kill people, and should be taken seriously.
Yes, it’s been a bad year for the flu, which never had a chance. The flu starts with an R0 of 1.2. With a cycle time of a few days, in a year you can expect about 120 cycles. and 1.2^120=3.2 billion cases, starting with just 1. However, restrict the spread just a little bit, and there is a massive difference. Cut the R0 to 1.1, and 1.1^120 is only 92,000 cases. That’s why there are virtually no reported cases of the flu anywhere in the world this year.
We pray for your speed recovery

We’ll never get herd immunity, but with speedy, deft combat against new infections, the epidemiologist says we could get back to normalish life. https://www.wired.com/story/larry-brilliant-herd-immunity-end-of-pandemic/
What if the exemptions carved out of vaccine development protocols for “emergency” status would be void if an effective treatment existed? Would that explain the full court press to suppress the propagation of inexpensive effective treatments?

Complete federal conflict of interest.”
Reality bites those who continue to fearmonger Covid. Stockman reviews all the numbers in an extensive post and overall, the numbers are unimpressive.
Impending Doom, Indeed!
David Stockman
Thursday April 1, 2021
We will not mince words. America is indeed suffering from a dangerous plague—a plague of misanthropic fear-mongering from the likes of Dr. Fauci, the Scarf Lady and the Biden’s new CDC director, among countless others of the self-designated Virus Patrol.
All three took to the mainstream media in recent days, with new CDC director Rochelle Walensky getting positively teary-eyed as she allegedly veered off-script to sound yet another Covid Alarm:
What? Where? Wait!
Here’s the source of Doom. Well, if you have your magnifying glass handy you might possibly spot it—the squiggle down there in the yellow box below!
Actually, she was not nearly done. When it comes to paint by the numbers exaggeration and hysteria the following is hard to top.
….
A few somebodies didn’t follow safety protocols. Who made contact with people outside of the team?
Were any of them vaccinated?
US, well over 500,000 deaths
And that is assuredly an undercount as measured by excess deaths.
[Shrug] 500k is a mere 0.18% of the USA population of ~335 million. Go ahead and double the number if it makes anyone feel better. Still would be only 0.30% of the USA population.
Of course all deaths are important to family & friends but this relatively small number of deaths in no way warranted the unrelenting MSM coverage for the last year nor economic lockdowns. Anyone is free to disagree. I’ll end the same way I began with a [shrug].
Probably closer to 700k, and if we didn’t have resources to save all of the folks that were hospitalized and recovered? More like 9 million since 9 million people have been hospitalised with Covid so far here in the US. And if we all blindly tried to ignore it and let it rip thru our complete population with no masks and no non-pharmaceutical interventions with no available hospital resources? Probably closer to 20 million.
Even if your foolish, fearmongering extrapolations actually turned out to be true, 20 million deaths would still be only 6% of the total USA population, which is still a low and acceptable number. You can’t argue with math. So sorry.
That “low and acceptable number” would be about 47 times the number of Americans killed in the Second World War (420,000).
And that comparison is germane why?
Vitamin D would have saved all of them I’m sure.
There is no reason to be stupid. Obviously it wouldn’t have saved all of them, but the evidence is clear that it would have saved some of them, and that others would have had a more mild case than they did. So, what is Google’s excuse for having YouTube pull down videos early in the Pandemic when they suggested that people boost their immune system by taking D? I certainly have been taking Vitamin D through this, and have suggested it to friends.
Vaccine advances not withstanding there’s at least one act left for Covid
So what? The flu usually has a lot of cases too. The main question – how many deaths? No one gives those numbers.
Numbers reported many times
Q: How the hell can anyone NOT know?
A: They do not want to know or are delusional enough to not accept the results.
US, well over 500,000
And that is assuredly an undercount as measured by excess deaths.
For the flu, in most years the CDC counts 5-7000 deaths from flu. How many of those have comorbidities? Almost certainly nearly all of them. Then, at the end of the season they look at “excess deaths” and adjust the deaths by a factor that varies from year to year, but usually is about 5-7, and then report that flu deaths for the year were 25-50,000.
For Covid they will do the same thing. They have counted about 570,000 deaths so far. At the end of the year, the CDC will look at excess deaths, and determine the needed adjustment, based on excess deaths. At this point, it looks like the adjustment will be about 1.2. Thus, today’s reported deaths of 570k will end up being about 684k deaths for the official number.
Lots of people play games with the numbers. Today everyone believes they have the right to have their own “truth”. Go for it. However, your own private
“truth” doesn’t change the fact that about 700,000 extra Americans have died due to Covid, enough to lower the average life expectancy of Americans by 1-2 years.
Are you dumb? No one gives those numbers? Holy f&#k
I gather that you’ve never looked at the reporting process for the flu each year? Using the same logic that some use for Covid, the flu is fictitious, and never actually kills anyone.
As for the excess death numbers, those are easy to find, if you look. Feel free to make up your own explanation for why life expectancy has dropped in the US by a year (far more for blacks). Or, better yet, since it’s your truth, and your reality, just pretend it didn’t happen. Facts and opinions have become one, so in this great new world, feel free to just make up your own.
On the off chance that you interested in real numbers, life expectancy fell by 1 year by midway though 2020. Most likely it has fallen by more than that in the last 7 months, ergo my statement that life expectancy is down by 1-2 years.
vit D not so great if your black https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2777682
Did you mean to say “not so great unless you are black?” The study showed a clear benefit for blacks, but no significant results for whites. Other studies I have seen did show a clear benefit for everyone.
