WTF?

In case you don’t believe that video, here is a different one.

That appears to be an entire building.

Hong Kong and Macao Suspend Travel From Mainland Cities

Please note Hong Kong and Macao Suspend Travel From Mainland Cities

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor announced at a press conference on Jan.28th that Hong Kong will suspend individual visit scheme involving 49 Chinese mainland cities. Lam said the ban got the approval from the central government and it aims to combat the spread of the coronavirus-related pneumonia.

According to previous data, individual visit scheme accounts about half of mainland travellers visiting Hong Kong. At the same time, Chinese mainland has suspended tour groups to Hong Kong, which accounts about 20%. The ban will significantly reduce mainland visitors, Lam said.

The city also suspends high-speed rail service to the Chinese mainland. Lam also said all cross-border ferry services would be suspended and the number of flights to the Chinese mainland will be halved. Starting from Jan 30, immigration checkpoints at the city’s high-speed rail station and Hung Hom station will be closed. Passenger traffic at Sha Tau Kok, Man Kam To will be suspended.

US Sec of State Consider Travel Ban

Also note: ‘Get it right’: Pompeo mulls China travel ban over coronavirus outbreak

“Well, look, the State Department constantly evaluates risk to travelers,” Pompeo told reporters on Wednesday during a flight to London. “That includes travel advisories that could encompass a wide range of things, including banning travel. All of those things will constantly be under consideration.”

“It appears that this coronavirus has a long incubation period, and asymptomatic persons may be able to transmit the virus,” Sen. Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican who has worked closely with Pompeo for years, wrote in a Tuesday letter to the administration. “Given these dangerous circumstances, a targeted travel ban is warranted to protect Americans until we know more about the virus and the outbreak is under control.”

Be safe.

Don’t go to China.

This is truly WFF, but hey, let’s believe Chinese officials on the death rate and transmission rate.

Meanwhile a Growing Number Airlines Suspend Flights to China.

If the virus does stop spreading globally, which by the way I actually suspect, it will not be due to the WHO, but citizens and airlines acting responsibly, refusing to take more risks.

Mish, i re read your headline. You are wrong. Even the chinese government or health authority did not say the people inside the apartment are infected and you concluded they are, as seen in your headline. How much lies you people want to tell? Please do the honourable thing.

The youtube that was linked was wrong in translation. The official notice pasted on the wall in mandarin says:”this unit has people who returned from wuhan home visit. Do not get in contact.” The gross hysteria in the west (more civilised ? ) has this wrong and god knows how many more wrong translation, interpretation they have. Whipping themselves up in a frenzy. China is putting up great effort to contain the virus. Barricade also means they have to supply their essential.

Number of flu deaths in a typical year? Number infected with the flu in a typical year? Get a grip, people. Just Google those questions for the flu season 2017-2018.

The flu season for 2017-18 involved 959,000 hospitalizations, and 79,400 deaths. The coronavirus-n2019, based on early numbers, is about 10x more contagious, and has 30x worse outcomes (30x more deaths, 30x more hospitalizations). With 330 million people in the US, if the hospitalization percentage remains at 20%, and infection rate remains high, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect 20 million people to be hospitalized, nor to expect 3-4 million deaths.

We can certainly hope that the 30x is wrong, and it could be that the cases being reported are only the very worst cases, which is why the death percentage and hospitalization percentages are so high. We can also hope that we can find ways to limit the spread. Nevertheless, this is without a doubt a health situation that justifies the full attention of the medical system.

Now, if you think this is just another flu, consider the videos that are available from China. If their doctors and medical staff think it is “just another flu”, would they be wearing full hazmat suits? They are much closer to the action that any of us, and their actions speak louder than words. I don’t trust the “official numbers”, but I do trust that the medical staff in the field will take precautions that they believe are appropriate.

Gladly removed the offending statement. As I was working on the post that second video came in. I changed the title to reflect the fact I was positive.

I am more than a bit tired of people downplaying what is happening and the potential for this to jump and the potential that China is engaged in a mass cover-up already.

This is totally serious shit.

One thing is very, very obvious. The behavior we are seeing reported in videos, and the announced measures do not match at all with the reported numbers.

Reported numbers:

  1. Infections: still minute as a percentage of the population
  2. Death: Significant as a percentage of infections, but still very small compared to typical flu deaths

Actions reported, or seen:

  1. Trying to quarantine 40 million people
  2. Entire countries halting travel
  3. Trying to instantly build field hospitals with thousands of beds in multiple Chinese cities
  4. People dying in the street, or in hallways of hospitals
  5. Rushed creamations
  6. Locking people in homes
  7. Countries evacuating all their people from Wuhan and then quarantining them
  8. Medical professionals in full Hazmat gear

These obviously don’t match. For example, when was the last time you saw a Doctor wearing a Hazmat suit to treat someone with the flu, even though the flu kills 20,000 people in the US every year? People close to the action are obviously very, very concerned, far, far more concerned than they would be about an ordinary flu. If the people close to the events are this concerned, why would we not be concerned?

Yes, they were locked in. No, we do not have all the details. I the time I wrote ” I cannot confirm that is precisely what is going on.”, I did not have the second video.

Now stop being an idiot as I have had enough.

No need to exaggerate a bad situation, apparently local officials have resorted to barricading those people who came from Hubei or Wuhan but refuse to go be teste for the virus.

In the US, 34,157 people died of the flu during the 2018-19 season, per the CDC. Doesn’t the reaction to 130 deaths we are seeing above seem a little outlandish? The reaction alone makes the numbers very suspect.

Total deaths is different than death rate though and the virus’ ability to avoid being killed off.

Umbrella Corporation recommends that, if immediate cremation is not possible, dying people should be locked in a confined area, just in case.

Seems draconian, unless the PRC brass knows more about the real numbers than we do. I’m still not sure how big the virus is but measures like this are ominous.

Been checking out Martenson’s updates since the first one was posted here, thanks for pointing those out Mish.

Sister in law went to Hong Kong last Monday to get her daughter and children out.
Wife is going to Jakarta end of next week and I’m having misgivings even letting her go there.

Thats all fine and dandy as long as they go straight to quarantine whenever they get to where there going. Of course, not sure what happens along the way.

Don’t go to Hong Kong either. It’s only a matter of time before that’s locked down
