Dear Joe, Keep Calm and Kill Build Back Better, Polls Show Most Don’t Want It

Majority of Voters Oppose ‘Build Back Better’

Dear Senator Manchin, please note a Majority of Voters Oppose ‘Build Back Better’

A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports finds that 51% of Likely U.S. voters oppose the $2 trillion “Build Back Better” bill, including 40% who Strongly Oppose it. Forty-two percent (42%) support the bill, including 27% who Strongly Support it.

Poll Questions

  • The House of Representatives has passed a $2-trillion spending package to fund President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda, and now the Senate is considering the legislation. Do you support or oppose this legislation?
  • If Congress passes the “Build Back Better” bill, would that be good or bad for the U.S. economy? Or would it not make much difference?

Right Direction or Wrong Track?

A separate Poll on the Right or Wrong Track shows little support for Biden’s policies.

Twenty-nine percent (29%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey for the week ending November 23, 2021.

Kill Build Back Better Outright

Dear Senator

You have all the reasons you need for West Virginia and the entire nation to kill Build Back Better outright.

BBB is too flawed to fix.

Just kill it.

Mish,
This comes from the same person who claimed that Robots were going to take over our jobs and cause mass unemployment. Guess what? we have 4.60% unemployment and the fastest job creation since…the 1950’s. I know you are upset about.
No single US Senator from whatever party will stop the will of 99 % of the Party.

It’s a left over stimulus package from the summer. We don’t want or need a stimulus package right now.

Voters also opposed Biden as president, why would they care now what voters want?
$2-$3 Trillion on top of our regular budget spending aka debt spending.  I can’t tell if y’all really didn’t see this coming…

You realize Biden won by more than 7 million votes, a landslide really.  Or are you one of those people living on the alternative earth?

Yep, it’s the second lowest approval rating in presidential history.  I’ll let you guess which “president” was lower.

Sorry, but this shows the dumbness of the public. All this fuss for an infrastructure bill which could actually produce something useful. Contrast that with the fact that nobody bats an eye for that complete boondoggle which is defense spending: $700+Bn per year, plus trillions spent in a useless war. But NO, a public infrastructure program is too socialist.
Like it or not, the infrastructure in the US is crumbling and in bad need of an update. Just look at the electric grid with wires still hanging from flimsy wooden poles, something reminding of anything but an advanced economy.

Anyone remember ‘shovel-ready’ projects from the last infrastructure boondoggle? Nearly a trillion wasted in a show of ‘surface skimming’ roads, many of which needed rebuilding! Do you seriously think this will be any better with Butt-er-grease  running the DOT?
$13.5 BILLION will be used for recharging stations. Anyone remember any gas stations being paid for with Federal monies?
$6 BILLION for mail trucks for the USPS, that CANNOT compete with UPS, Fed Ex, and Amazon. (UPS lost $9.2 billion in 2020)
And yes, wee need to get more efficient use of our defense dollars. Let’s start by firing the WOKE leaders.

“Sorry, but this shows the dumbness of the public.”
Well, most people do believe the marketing slogan, “safe and effective.”
Apparently, only a third of the infrastructure bill is infrastructure? The 700+ billion “defense” spending is an Empire control budget.
The U.S. would have to get out of the Empire business. That puts China in charge. Empires rise and fall, due to human nature, thus it is just a matter of time before the U.S. Empire is a shell of its former self. We can see clearly right now just how screwed up our government is.

Each time I read the title of this Mish posting, I read, “kill back better“. It’s weird. Anyone else read it that way?
But, then, the phrase “build back better” has always seemed like a sputtering engine to me. “Make American great again” is irritating to me differently, but to a similar degree.
They just don’t measure up to “a chicken in every pot”.

Rasmussen??!!  LOL.
Quinnipiac poll shows it is supported by 58-37.  WaPo poll shows the same numbers.
This is for the original BBB bill.   The diluted one will of course, have fewer people supporting it because fewer and fewer people will benefit as the bill keeps getting diluted.
It is like some people (including PNHP) who opposed Obamacare in 2010 not because they liked the status quo but because they wanted an M4A-type bill.

Wtf does “build back better” even mean?  It isn’t even English.

It’s marketing.  Just like Apple’s “Think different”.   That was not English either.

If you word it a little differently, including the benefits in the question instead of just the cost, you can come up with 64% approval.  https://www.filesforprogress.org/datasets/2021/11/dfp-iia-nov16-toplines.pdf
Question Wording: “The Build Back Better framework is a proposal to invest$1.75 trillion over the next ten years to better fund long-term care for seniors and people with disabilities, expandMedicare coverage to include hearing, invest in clean energy, extend tax credits for families with children, and providesubsidies for child care.Based on what you know now, do you support or opposethe Build Back Better framework?”

Clean energy isn’t an investment. An investment is something that gives you a return. Clean energy is a pure expense with no return. All you get is far higher costs, massive environmental damage and a fragile and dangerously unreliable energy infrastructure.

You might want to look up the levelized cost of energy, wind is cheapest and utility scale solar is second.  It just takes upfront “investments”.

And while you are at it, you may also want to add that they also have to vote D, or else the money will be clawed back from their bank accounts!
