DNA Testing: We’re All American Indians, Trump Proposes Personal Test of Warren

President Trump once mocked Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas” for her claim that she is a descendant of Native Americans.

To support her claim, Warren underwent DNA testing.

The New York Times reports Elizabeth Warren Releases DNA Results on Native American Ancestry.

The New York Times did not bother to report the percentage. It’s a joke. Nonetheless, Warren is proclaiming victory as did the Boston Globe and others.

Even the left-wing Vox managed to get the story mostly correct.

> In a way, the reveal is trivial: All it shows is that she had an ancestor, among hundreds in her family tree, from a Native American tribe. Her DNA, as analyzed by Stanford genealogy expert Carlos Bustamante, reveals her to be between 1/1024th Native American and 1/32nd Native American.

> If your sibling inherits slightly more Scandinavian DNA than you, does that make them more Scandinavian? No.

Warren is no more native American than I am. Heck, I may be more.

My grandparents are from the Czech Republic and Germany. Perhaps I am 1% Native American.

Cherokee Nation Chimes In

The Cherokee Nation says Warren’s Use of DNA Test is ‘Inappropriate’, ‘Wrong’

> The test, conducted by a Stanford University Professor Carlos Bustamante, showed that Warren has a Native American ancestor going back six to 10 generations ago, making her somewhere between 1/32ndand 1/1024thAmerican Indian.

> The Cherokee Nation in a statement said using a DNA test to claim connection with a tribal nation is “inappropriate” and “wrong.”

> “Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong,” said Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. “It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven.”

> “She comes from a well-documented line of white people and so there is ample evidence that all of her ancestors are documented white people on the census rolls, by their marriage and birth and death certificates since going back before the Trail of Tears,” she added, referring to the forced migration of Native Americans to west of the Mississippi in the 1830s.

Democrats Fall Into Stupid Trap Again

Once again, Democrats just cannot help themselves.

They keep falling into the “stupid trap”, countering anything Trump says that is silly, with absurd silliness of their own.

This is absolutely stupid and just 22 days in front of midterm elections.

So Warren has LESS american indian ancestry than the average white american…

EPIC fail by Warren.

Maybe Trump should donate 1/1024th of 1 Million dollars to the charity Warren named as the recipient of the 1 million donation Trump promised if Warren proved she was American-Indian?

That would be a donation slightly under 1000 dollars…

This is what politics in America has devolved into. Hell, my great grandmother was Cheyenne but I have never checked a box on any form that says I am Native. I could also say I am French, German, Irish or Italian. Luckily, I can say I am an American with a straight face because I am otherwise just a mongrel of the world.

From CNN:
“Harvard Law School in the 1990s touted Warren, then a professor in Cambridge, as being “Native American.” They singled her out, Warren later acknowledged, because she had listed herself as a minority in an Association of American Law Schools directory. “

“It began during Warren’s 2012 Senate run, when her opponent, Brown, accused her of lying to get a leg up in her academic career.
“Professor Warren claimed that she was a Native American, a person of color,” he said during a debate. “And as you can see, she’s not.””

said “the real offense is that (Warren) said she was white and then checked the box saying she is Native American, and then she changed her profile in the law directory once she made her tenure.”

Warren is a FRAUD.

I’m not the world’s most likely Warren voter, but, guys, let’s get a grip here.

Her story (which seems a lot more likely to be true than, say, Ford’s Kav story) is that her Mother was thought to be part “Indian”. She grew up with that and had no reason to doubt it. So, she checked a box. Whoop-dee-doo. In the US you can pick your “race” by checking any box you like. It should not matter what box you check, but it does. Too bad. Cry me a river.

Then DNA testing comes along and, as of right now, says she has only a trace of Amerindian. Pretty much like most Americans. Nothing special.

But here’s the deal: These DNA ancestry findings are wild guesses. She could be 10% Amerindian, no problem. Or more. Why? Short story: lack of data.

I can say from personal experience that these ancestry guesses can be off by 30% or 40% for ancestries for which they have far, far more data points that what are currently known for Amerindian.

Heck, until recently, these DNA testing outfits often bundled NE Asians with Amerindians in to one group! Talk about a vague grouping. The join between those two groups goes back from before (for instance) Euro ancestry even existed!

While Trump remains an entertaining dumpster fire of creative destruction, the Democratic Party remains a truly frightening conflagration of bitter, extremist fringe groups. Amazing that a party built on dividing people against themselves, and that is so anti-science/anti-biology, anti-Rule-of-Law, and anti-free market has the support it still does.

Here is some data from an article written in NYT in 2014. Latinos, African-Americans, and Whites have genes that are 18%, .8%, and .18% Native American respectively. In addition, White is .19% African. So Warren is probably more ‘black’ than ‘Native American’. Given this fact, will those people who claim that Warren is a Native American descendant also agree that she is a ‘Black’? Warren is a FRAUD who took a prestigious job at Harvard away from another qualified minority. Where is the outrage?

You have to grudgingly admire Senator Warren’s dogged persistence in seeking personal gain from such minutiae. In fact, her behavior has inspired me to leverage my Cherokee heritage: I’m claiming Chattanooga. Don’t worry; I’ve given them until January 1 to evacuate.

Trump made the statement. He should show some honor and make the contribution. He should also do a DNA test himself for amusement, and if he’s a higher percentage of American Indian, that would be funny indeed. As it stands now, Warren is shown badly, having claimed to be an American Indian, despite being lower in American Indian than the average American. Meanwhile Trump shows as worse, for not making the contribution he promised.

Trump should donate 1/1024th of the 1 millions dollars he promised to donate to charity if Warren proved she was an indian.

1/1024th of 1 million dollars is under 1000 dollars.

If Warren had any political clue whatsoever she would NOT have released the test showing Warren is LESS indian than average white American.

1/1024th Indian claiming to be a minority and promoted by Harvard as American Indian is just sad for both Harvard and for Warren.

Once you’ve had to defend the guy of sexual assault, colluding with Russia, tax fraud, business fraud, making fun of handicapped people, etc, what’s welching on a little million dollar bet? Completely honorless people. It’s real simple, he lost the bet, and your long blog post does nothing to disprove that fact. Fact, she has native american ancestry, as claimed. Bet lost. The rest is dishonest dissembling.

TDS can be cured you need electroshock therapy. Warren is a FRAUD and her DNA test proved it. You need do know basic math to figure that out ask a 4th grader for some help. She less indian dna as an average white person. The only thing she proved is that she is whiter than most whites. She lied deliberately to advance her career and for personal benefit. That is ok with dems as they will overlook everything because of their sheeplike sycophant nature.

If I recall correctly (which is not guaranteed), the President called her Fauxahontas, not Pocahontas. It created a debate at the time in some circles about whether Liawatha would have been more appropriate.

It is always good to mock one of these Holier-Than-Thou liberals, but there is a serious issue buried here. Lying Lizzie got hired at Harvard in part because she lied about her ethnic ancestry. That means some more honest applicant did not get the job. Sounds like some rejected applicants have got good grounds for a major lawsuit against Lying Lizzie.

Yes. Oranges do have DNA. Living things all do unless you count some viruses (with only RNA) among the “living”.

Warren’s video is certainly a professional job. It lacked the “Warren for President 2020” tag at the end, which, in a non-Washington-DC world is pretty odd. I loved the shot of the old handgun.

The DNA analysis (Let’s see whether not having the URL stops TheMaven from deleting this comment.) Bustamante_Report_2018 is pretty straightforward, answering the perennial American question of whether her “Indian” parent was really “Afro”.

What I wonder about is whether she would have been better to have said, “Look, our family history is my Mother was part Indian. DNA says, ‘No’, unless you subscribe to the ‘one drop’ rule, which I don’t. But that didn’t stop people of the time treating her badly. So, as is true for a lot of Americans, I still respect my family history.”

As it is, she doubled down on the one-drop rule. Ooops.

In this wacky PC culture, how can anyone be outraged over this? If I can self-identify as the opposite sex at the drop of a hat, why is self-identifying as having a particular heritage or race out of bounds?

At 1024 ancestors going back 10 generations and thus around 250 years, you pretty much have the choice of identifying with whomsoever you want. At each generation each parent brings in a multitude of origins. For example Warren’s parents bring 512 origins each (going back to their 9th generation ancestors). In fact, each generation in the tree involves a total of 1024 origins, (going back 10 generations from Warren). We are talking over 10,000 origins spanning 250 years here. In a migration society the chances of not having a little bit of just about everything are small.

To be fair, people back in the day mated with their neighbors, of whom there were very few. Two great grandparents being the same person was common enough.

If we had no ancestral dupes, we would be descended from everyone alive in 1300. Of course, because of the way DNA works, we might have essentially zero DNA from many “ancestors” of the time. But, hey, who’s counting?

Saudi Arabia should be treated much worse than Iran is.

It is ridiculous if Saudi Arabia gets a pass for torturing, killing and chopping up an opposition politician and Washington post writer in their embassy in Turkey.

However the guy they chopped up is no saint either if the claims he was working with Muslim Brotherhood are true…

She never claimed to be all native American… several members of my family have had DNA tests and none have shown any native American ancestry. So it is noteworthy that she does, and it is in line with what she claimed. It’s also noteworthy that fraud Trump refuses to honor his lost bet.

Not sure if you’re joking, Ron.

Jumping to a (less) innumerate conclusion, I’m guessing two things:

  1. Your family members all used the same vendor’s DNA test.
  2. Your ancestors are recently come to the US. I.e. No significant number of ’em in the Western Hemisphere in 1800. Probably none before 1850.

My first confirmed ancestor in the US was Miles Standish, on my maternal grandmother’s side. My father’s side were German immigrants in the 1850’s, and my maternal grandfather was Ashkenazi Jew from Russia around 1900. No native american DNA has showed up in multiple DNA tests of my immediate family. Warren was correct in claiming native american ancestry, and Trump is a fraud who welches on bets.

How thick is that tree to Standish? (My PatGrandM also traces to Mass Bay at the time through a fat tree of Penn Quakers. It’s good info, but a GED analysis program says, “Don’t bet the farm, buddy.”)
