Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) is joining the House of Representatives DOGE Caucus.
RedState reports The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is now officially bipartisan.
Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) is joining the House of Representatives DOGE Caucus.
“Today I will join the Congressional DOGE Caucus, because I believe that streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending should not be a partisan issue,” Moskowitz said in a statement.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., announced on Tuesday that he would be joining the House of Representatives’ DOGE Caucus, becoming the first Democrat in the now-bipartisan group.
He advocated for removing the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) from the purview of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), something floated by several Republican lawmakers months ago.
Now, there’s a goal that seems impossible to oppose. Who could not think that streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending is a good idea? Of course, many of Rep. Moskowitz’s Democrat colleagues will oppose the DOGE efforts, as most of that party have never seen any government spending or expansion of the bureaucracy that they weren’t in favor of.
One wonders if Rep. Moskowitz will be labeled a “Democrat in Name Only (DINO).” Is that a thing?
The Department of Homeland Security, we might note, has only been in existence since 2003. We got along without it before then. Why not eliminate it altogether and rotate the functions initially folded into the DHS back to where they were? That seems like something one might place in the category of “a good start.”
For the moment, this idea seems to be building up a head of steam. Americans in general, at least those who are not in the notorious Squad or who are Squad-adjacent, think that Washington City could stand to have a little — or a lot — of fat trimmed away. Some of us would like to see a lot more than that. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are talking about swinging a broad axe, and may well propose eliminating entire agencies.
The DOGE — and all of us conservatives and libertarians, anyone who favors limited government, would do well to remember the words of Barry Goldwater:
I have little interest in streamlining the government or in making it more efficient, for I intend to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.
Let us hear it for reducing the size of government, Mr. Moskowitz! Release the DOGE, and may it bite deep.
The Doge Caucus is Bicameral. That means Senators and Representatives can both be members.
Bernie Sanders on DOGE
Newsweek reports Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, suggested that the defense budget could be area of bipartisan collaboration. Musk simply wrote “Cool!” to Khanna’s post that the House Armed Services Committee will work with DOGE on “cutting waste, fraud, and abuse,” pertaining to the defense budget.
Bicameral DOGE Caucus
Press Release November 25: Senator Ernst Joins Congressman Bean in Creating Bicameral DOGE Caucus

On Friday, November 22, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) launched the DOGE Caucus in the Senate.

I am pleased to report DOGE is bipartisan. The only commitment appears to be a willingness to reduce government waste.
And I am disappointed in any Republicans who turn their backs on DOGE.
However, I would worry about letting half-hearted members like Bernie in the caucus. But there is no reason Bernie and others can’t support the ideas they agree with or to submit ideas to DOGE.
The Real Power Vested in Doge
Please note that the two sheriffs, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have no real power. All they can do is suggest ideas.
The true power belongs in the Senate and House deputies. They are the only ones who can pass legislation.
Whether you are a Republican or Democrat member of Congress, what your excuse for not at least cooperating with DOGE?
Applications accepted now.
China Halts Rare Exports Used by US Technology Companies and the Military
In case you missed it, please note China Halts Rare Exports Used by US Technology Companies and the Military
This is China’s advance salvo at Trump tariffs. It comes one day after the Biden administration expanded curbs on the sale of advanced American technology to China.

Thing is, they’ll reduce the spending by spending more. Defense department will eliminate a few F35s (amid great howls of “JOBS!” lost somehow), instead using slightly less money to build more drones, which will look like saving money. But those drones will still be far more expensive than they need to be, much more complicated than they need to be, and will eventually go over budget and probably end up costing more than the F35s they’re replacing.
Great success!
Does the government have to spend every dollar of the budget?
Mish, you are forgetting about the overturning of the Chevron case. This gives legal justification for hallowing out the regulatory agencies power to regulate. It will also be shown then that 100’s of thousands of govt employees literally have nothing to do.
Eliminating the Department of Homeland Security would be a good way to remove vast amounts of duplication. Wiping out nearly all of the military intelligence services (17 or more currently) would also help…
Who’s going to round up people to go in the camps then?
Yeah, where will the YMCA get the needed counselors?
There is nothing rare about the metals except the Chinese slave labor that produces the metals below cost of production in the civilized world.
More smoke and mirrors from the clown car. Someone needs to focus on reality. Stop all the show boating and actually come up with a plan. Trump II administration is just another accident waiting to happen. Stop listening to the echo chamber, turn off Fox and Friends and find away down a path the actually leads somewhere. Stop all the show boating just to see the media reaction. Mirror Mirror on the right, who is the dumbest of them all.
What do you call Biden 1 then?! lol
Why would anyone expect anything less from a reality TV star with a largely failed first term that was on autodrive while he kept tweeting
Because Jesus told me he was my new savior?
I hear he has a concept of a plan… but until that materializes, congress is going to be the Punch and Judy show.
I have my popcorn ready for this train wreck.
Not a word about unaccompanied minors being trafficked across the Mexican border. You guys are nothing if not consistent.
Trump cannot enforce any changes until he is sworn in. Expect much to happen at the border. US Citizens demanded it, now we will see.
Still smarting over sweet Hunter’s lack of jail time? Don’t worry…. it was really to keep Joe out of prison.
Also remember, 80% of the Federal budget is in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Interest and Defense, all WILDLY popular programs, even among Republicans. Dont waste your time. Float more debt that can be used as FDIC insurance for billionaires worldwide and just worry about getting thru the day.
There’s your answer. Cut all those items.
I wonder what 30 million Canadians would do knowing that nothing is gonna stop them from invading the country and stealing all our bags of Bugles …
I totally agree with Government Health/Medical Insurance. Let the Market handle that. A big chunk goes away in Interest immediately.
Social Security is paid into (small degree yes), and a massive promise that folks live off of, and have no other choice. Phase it out over decades and I agree, but Defense is like Borders to Me. We should always have a Military run by our Government, but perhaps add more controls and restrictions for some things.
An example would be Ukraine, as the money, if left to the Voters, would not have occurred more than likely. Same with many other scenarios where the American Citizens may have Voted “No” We do deserve more of a say in some areas I would suggest.
I was curious about how much Federal employees cost taxpayers. According to the CBO…..
“The federal government employs about 2.3 million civilian workers—or 1.4 percent of the U.S. workforce—in jobs that represent over 650 occupations at more than 100 agencies. It competes with private-sector employers for people who possess the mix of attributes needed to do the work of its various agencies.
In fiscal year 2022, the federal government spent roughly $271 billion to compensate those civilian employees. About 60 percent of that total was spent on civilian personnel working in the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Homeland Security.”
The report defines compensation as both salary and benefits.
https://www.cbo.gov/publication/60235
Discretionary spending in 2022 was $1.7 trillion and federal employee compensation was roughly 16% of that. Average compensation per employee in 2022 was about $117.8k.
$271 billion for employee compensation is nuts, but where the hell is the rest (roughly $1.4 trillion) of discretionary spending going?
You can answer your own questions. The budget is easily “charted” and understood. Almost all businesses and organizations have their salaries as their #1 expense. The Federal govt isnt like that. Lots and lots of money is also spent on welfare guarantees and non-profit programs.
They will come up with great ideas to cut payments to poor people.
The Corporate rorts in Health and Defence spending can’t be touched because both sides are owned by the corporations and they rely on government welfare.
People vote but corporations rule.
Time to start sandbagging. Why make some rich prick richer?
Just enforce the existing laws against the fraud, collusion and waste in medicine, pharma and health insurance and the need for and cost of Medicare and medicaid goes down over 90%. That alone will balance the budget. Then prune the grift in the MIC for crap overpriced weapons and that will save another 100 billion each year. Scrap any support for Ukraine and that is another 50 billion. Then get rid of half the red tape made by government and that will save a few billion but also stimulate the economy which will boost the amount of taxes collected.
If the government can run a surplus then they no longer have the problem of the interest bill rising and maybe by the time of our grandkids they can pay it off. Or would you rather your grandkids be raised in a country that is bankrupt?
Would you also like us to tilt the planet a little to make winters a little warmer?
Could give it a shake and let all those billions of dollars in Ukraine fall out.
Yes please!
There is so much waste in the Medicare program. I can see it in my own family. My parents see a specialist for every little thing. My mother goes to an ENT just to have her ears cleaned out, something the nurse at her primary care doctor could do. She sees a gastroenterologist every year just to renew her script for a PPI. She uses a prescription brand of PPI because her insurance covers it, while the OTC PPIs she would have to pay for herself. Just a couple of examples, multiply many times with millions of seniors who spend a great deal of their time going from one specialist to another.
Glory, You are pulling on the wrong end of the rope. The US Dept. of Treasury currently reports the following balance in each of these accounts:
Dept. of Defence Medicare-Eligible Retiree Fund… $354B (billion)
Medicare Hospital ITF (Insurance Trust Fund) ……. $200B
Medicare Supplemental ITF……………………………… $142B
Social Security Disability ITF …………………………… $142B
But they are all NEGITIVE BALLANCES! And therefore, are reported as (or more accurately concealed as) part of the $36Trilion National Debt. Wasting money is crime, wasting money that has to be barrowed every month and left to our children to repay, is Treason.
These programs automatically expand as boomers retire. Sometimes I wonder why the ten year bond is only 4.2% given the pressure on rates. Its all a show and the can will be kicked. Trump never talks about efficiency only about incresing the size of government through his vanities. Its going to be a four year show of arrogance and failure.
His first term had the largest deficit in history … 6.7 trillion. I bet he hits 9 trillion this time.
People are dumb, and easily manipulated by creeps like him. This is the chief failure of democracy.
Looks like they decided to kill the idea by an endless stream of committee meetings.
I don’t think it works like that, there’s no leverage on DOGE, it’s just a pretend thing.
It’s to keep First Lady Elon placated so she doesn’t demand more.
The Musk-Trump administration will have to do more than focus on cutting 15 percent of total Federal spending.
I suggest that many of the folks who comment here should apply to be part of DOGE. Seems like many here have ideas on how to trim government. I say “go for it”!
I will be watching and waiting for the all that waste to disappear.
To my knowledge, the only elected Presidents who campaigned on shrinking government were Reagan and Trump. But under both of them, the number of government employees increased. As did government spending.
Of course, this time it will be different. With Musk and Ramaswamy helping out, it should be a cinch to save $2 trillion.
Let the show begin!
This stuff happens with every election. Huge ass promises turn into mediocre success or out right failure (but always more spending). Will they find waste? Absolutely. Will some of the more absurd waste be cut? Probably. Will it make a dent in the overall spending level? Doubtful. Will any savings be diverted elsewhere and pissed away? Most likely.
With bipartisan support, obtaining a consensus on large cuts will be very difficult to reach.
I spent 35 years in the Federal government. While I wasnt high up there and I wasnt a “budgetary” person, anyone with a little patience and a 5th grade education knows that a couple of billionaires who got rich off government contracts and several thousand “hangers-on” who have never forced anyone to give up a government benefit, arent gonna get squat done cutting that budget. Everyone will say no-no-no-no. They will “find” little crap like foreign aid (less than 1% and it goes to feeding desperate people who turn into terrorists when they’re hungry) and “waste, fraud and abuse.” It was no fun spending money in my agency as someone already thought about how to save money. These people will be pruning a dead forest full of lions and tigers.
What a surprise you worked for the government. It all makes sense now.
I used to be Prime Minster of Saturn… anyone can say anything here.
worked?
