I was wondering how long it would take for Musk to trigger backlash. We have our answer.
Hmm. Trump tried to buy union support with pro-union statements and largely succeeded by making huge inroads in traditionally Democrat voting patterns.
But instead of quietly working behind the scenes to get what he wants, Musk made a big issue of H-1Bs by announcing:
“I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly understand. Take a big step back and F*CK Yourself in the face.“
Just lovely.
Actually, I do understand. It’s obvious. Musk is worth billions and he will use those billions to buy influence, which is why he is the influence peddler that he is now.
Problems for Musk
- With that Tweet, Musk proved who he is (a crude, powerful, arrogant bully), and who he really stands for (himself).
- Musk went beyond his mission of cost cutting and its not the first time. Musk also interjected himself into Trump’s appointments, nearly costing Scott Bessent the nomination for Secretary of Treasury.
Musk jumped from supporting Democrats to support of Trump, because Trump was easier to buy.
Donald Trump Shares View on H-1B Visas Amid MAGA Civil War
Newsweek reports Donald Trump Shares View on H-1B Visas Amid MAGA Civil War
President-elect Donald Trump told The New York Post on Saturday that he supports H-1B visas, weighing in on a key issue that has caused a significant rift within his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump told The Post in a phone interview on Saturday. “I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program,” he said.
The affirmative answer from the MAGA base’s leader could potentially quell the online civil war that has erupted between those in business who believe skilled legal migration boosts the U.S. economy and those of his supporters who think it takes place at the expense of American workers. Prominent MAGA influencers, such as podcaster Steve Bannon and far-right commentator Laura Loomer, have come out strongly against the visas.
Meanwhile, Trump suggested during an interview on the All-In podcast in June that international students graduating from American universities should be given green cards.
“If you graduate or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country,” he said.
Prior Trump Policy
On November 10, a Forbes article said Past H-1B Visa Policies Predict Donald Trump’s Immigration Policy
As president, Donald Trump did not enact any measures to increase access to H-1B visas and high-skilled immigrants, and a second term will likely be similar.
The Trump administration published a restrictive H-1B rule in 2020. A judge blocked the rule for violating the Administrative Procedure Act. Trump officials attempted to publish part of the rule again before leaving office but ran out of time.
The rule included numerous provisions to prevent companies from employing foreign-born scientists and engineers, such as changing who and what positions could qualify for an H-1B specialty occupation.
Trumpian Definition of Always
Now Trump says “I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas.“
Yes indeed. To Trump “always” means “right now”, not yesterday or tomorrow.
And most of Trump supporters will believe that for the simple reason they believe everything he says.
Needless Battle
No matter where you stand on the issue (I am in favor of skilled immigration as needed), the Tweet from Musk ensures the issue will not go away.
This is what happens when you have a big mouth and make a big stink in a particularly offensive way.
From the point of view of Trump, this feud was best fought behind the scenes because much of the MAGA base is not open to more immigration even in cases where it makes sense.
Can DOGE Cut $2 Trillion Out of $1 Trillion?
In case you missed it, please see Can DOGE Cut $2 Trillion Out of $1 Trillion? What About Revenue?
The answer to the first question is obvious. So let’s discuss what’s reasonable.
What Would You Do to Balance the Budget?
Unlike DOGE and Trump, I did balance the budget in my proposals.
For discussion, please see An Interactive Exercise: What Would You Do to Balance the Budget?
MAGA fans are going to soon see Trump back down on deportations and on balancing the budget.
This Musk episode is round 2 on MAGA infighting. Expect more, because its coming.

Seems American companies first combated inflation by offshoring production while retaining the thinking domestically. With MAGA, coupled with deterioration of domestic “education”, growing sense of entitlement, and lousy work ethic, the solution now appears to be importing thinkers and work ethic at a much lower wage and less entitlement. Both logical solutions to the consequences of corrupt money and government. MAGA sans Americans. What a mess fake money creates.
WHAT A JOKE!!!
When the progressive shows agree with the MAGA shows in that we MUST need cheap H1B / H2B immigrants, you should understand who is running the show, and it’s not in the best interests of the US.
“And most of Trump supporters will believe that for the simple reason they believe everything he says”
I voted for Trump in ’16, ’20 and ’24. Trump lost some luster for me way back in 2016 when he didn’t show up at his UIC Chicago rally. Some one scared him off. Some leader! But what do we have. I’m for immigration but only from Europe, Australia, Iceland etc..
Pure, white people are nice, but they’re expensive and don’t like being exploited. Vivek says his cousins have a higher IQ, and are easily exploited via the H1B system.
Brown people > white people.
@Mish. Can you please get rid of this guy. He’s been literally spamming every thread.
How else can the “price” of engineers be kept at “reasonable” levels? /sarc
Elon did not make many friends in the US with that statement..
I make my own friends to respond favorably to my twitter posts.
So, the HB1 visa program is just a high tech corporate version of the old Bracero program for corporate agriculture’s cheap field labor source in the ’50s and ’60s from Mexico when America was great, again, at picking strawberries and artichokes. Funny how those Harvard and Stanford ivy league “Hispanic” students and graduates came from the upper classes of central and south America, Spain, and Portugal, and not the barrios of California, New Mexico, Arizona, or Mexico. Selective racism and reverse racism in economic action while enjoying their selective service draft exemptions later limited to graduate degrees for lawyers, doctors, and priests under LBJ–hence the draft riots. I gather migrant Elon Musk wasn’t an indigenous working lower class white from Rhodes “apartheid” South Africa where the climate and diamonds are best by government tests. . .
Portugal is not an Hispanic country. It has a completely separate history, culture and language. Why the f#*k do ignorant Americans keep lumping everybody into this same category? Portugal became a distinct nation almost a thousand years ago – we have to get lumped in one big indistinguishable stew by you lot? I have nothing in common with Mexicans, Argentinians, and very little even with Spaniards. Nobody would dare refer to an Englishman as an Irishman or vice versa in this country and those two sort of speak the same language. GFY.
It is easy. They don’t look white. Some white people still believe they are the only caucasians. To them, there are only two colors. White and non-white. Anything that isn’t white, including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, is non-white.
People seem to forget what America First onshoring of production implies. It is intended to translate into a strong market for workers who have talent and ability.
Trump if he does go thru with a Tariff policy will bring much pressure on Job market in the States as Business expansion will require employees.
Globalization was designed to wreck US domestic production. That is to be reversed.
Globalization wasn’t designed. Trade has been around for centuries. Once China joined the WTO that allowed manufacturing to move overseas faster. But since 2001, the US consumer is actually doing worse than they were in the 1990s and the US has more income inequality. Why ? The US consumer never truly felt the benefit of globalization (low prices) and companies merely took the profit margins higher. Corporate management compensation is designed for higher profit incentive and not lower prices to consumers. The era of low interest rates started after China joined the WTO. Oddly one would have expected higher interest rates to be possible based on the benefits of globalization but it never happen. In fact the US has need low interest rates as more people have suffered under globalization. Effectively, we can blame corporate greed for it all. As the income inequality has gotten worse not better. On top of that you throw in these labor programs that effectively import immigrant labor at the expense of the citizen and this is why we are where we are.
Cheap (legal or illegal) foreign labor is always meant to put pressure on labor costs, especially at the low end. Illegal or conditional labor is even better, because those people do not have any rights, cannot complain, and are little more than serfs or slaves. Of course, libertarians always deny that exploitation is or has ever been a thing.
The H1-Bs is a SCAM. Job openings are deliberately written with requirements to exclude native prospects. Organizations that intermediate make sure they have bins full of foreigners with tailor-made resumes. Some might have some talent, lots do not. But they work below wages that make the required education (required by the opening, not by the work) worthwhile. It’s like medical costs, a revolving racketeering scam between insurance, medical providers, and collusive government. With the H1Bs, it’s a carousel between placement agencies (that pocket 30% of the revenue), corporations, and government.
As for Musk (who has been milking government credits for solar panels and “carbon free” cars; your Ford pickup carbon credits funded Tesla’s research and plant) and Vivek (scammed institutional investors with an Alzheimer drug that was already known not to meet success criteria), it is significant that America’s hope for rebirth is entirely in the hands of scammers.
“Of course, libertarians always deny that exploitation is or has ever been a thing.”
Libertarianism requires a just and moral people to succeed as a form of government. Absent that, pure libertarianism isn’t achievable, and state power will grow as people decide that giving up some freedom and liberty to preclude continued or future exploitation or provide for equality of *outcome* is a worthwhile trade. Freedom is dangerous. Most people can’t or don’t want to deal with it
DING DING DING DING DING. You get a 110% for this comment. You just described the US economy in a nutshell. We are now just a white collar version of a banana republic.
And he plays the race card, of course.
Count the number of immigrant CEO’s running American Corporations. Were they hired to replace US citizens because they work cheaper?
DEI.
There is no lack of STEM graduates in the US but keep in mind that employers want to be able to pick and choose so they will always say there is a lack. Also employers do not and will really care about helping legacy populations. It’s a fact of life ever since civilization started.
How about if we let them in – but only if they promise to convert to Christianity?
Christianity is a lie. Ketamine is god.
I made my trump say he supports this, so you have to, too. You all belong to us oligarchs now, and we don’t need your vote.
Have a kid that wants a white collar job? Too bad. Americans aren’t good enough or cheap enough.
Your access to a variety of Indian restaurants will grow, however. The relatives the H1Bs bring in won’t have the white collar skills, so it’s food service for them.
I believe Musk backed Trump because Twitter/X is free speech and the Democrats are anti-free-speech. Now, he expressed his biased opinion in an unncecessarily vulgar way, as he is wont to do at times, and he will face backlash that free speech does when one opts to speak first and think second.
I’m a Trump guy but do not like being lumped into this giant bucket of anything-he-does-or-says-is-great pile. People have a choice of only 2 sides in this political war and, on balance, I cannot support Them/They–the Demoncrats. Thus on days when they say or do things I do not like I simply say, “agreed, that’s a mistake.”
There is no perfect candidate or party so we have to take a balanced view of which of the 2 sides to choose. I know Mish voted for Mish but I have to pick one of 2 as do almost all non-Mish Americans. Until/unless there is a competent, well-known, already-popular, financable third party candidate, this view will hold for me.
Still, not sure why Elon had to be so vulgar.
Also, there are lots of skilled IT personnel here but the Indian workforce comes in greater numbers thus at a lower aggregate cost, both of which most of corporate America is all in favor of. I remember training my Indian offshore replacement for a Fortune 20 company–took me a year and that person still was struggling. No matter, they were much cheaper. And, in the end, that thrift was rewarded with a number of costly errors that erased all labor cost savings…but one of the labor cost was direct and the errors’ cost was indirect.
I’m a free speech absolutist, until you hurt my feelings. Just ask Laura Looner.
The ratio of my 1981 starting salary as an engineer to my senior year tuition at a well-regarded private university known for engineering was 5:1.
Today, that ratio is no better than 2:1.
Part of the reason is that the inflation in college tuition far outpaced the inflation in engineering salaries. This was caused the the proliferation of student loans inflating tuition costs and the influx of foreign students who tend to go into STEM fields rather than psychology coupled with H1b visas and outsourcing.
The recruitment of foreign students by public universities was particularly important as the foreign students paid full tuition and were seen as a lucrative source of income for the colleges.
A large part of the problem has been due to government policies, particularly the student loan program. The program inflates costs for everyone and encourages wasted investment in frivolous academic fads. Everyone pays the same tuition and the college loans encouraged more to study psychology than STEM.
That said, the use of H1b visas should address specific, niche needs and companies using them should be paying high costs in either salary or a tax/fee.
A fee equal to double the salary would be an incentive to hire one of the many qualified Americans.
Socialism!!!!
100% correct Kevin
There are millions of US citizen STEM-educated people not working in STEM, almost entirely due to idiots running the HR departments.
They want to be paid a fair wage, and that cuts into profits. They ar useless to me.
Who decides whether an H1-B is an essential and irreplaceable talent? I interviewed for a job where all six interviewers carried green cards. I could do any one of their jobs. They did not hire me. The USA 340 million population has plenty of talent. American talent shuns STEM education because the corporations pay auto assembly and longshoremen better than STEM. Pay what the job is worth and you get all the talent you need.
America has more than enough STEM graduates.
But they are working at Starbucks and all over, but not in STEM.
Same in the EU. The all land up in other fields (like IT) because lab work and engineering is being outsourced to low income countries.
I tracked the initial salaries and job prospects at the University I worked for STEM graduates over decades. The stats say you’re better off with a degree in communications, psychology, or business. But the propaganda is all about how we need more STEM graduates: girls, go for STEM.
A head hunter for AKZO-Nobel (chemicals) once told me that a student had said to him: Why should I put myself through a really difficult course of study, when I can do something easy like business and be the manager of those guys for 4× the pay. It was a moment of revelation for the head hunter: The kid was 100% correct.
The rich must ,and will be served at the lowest possible cost.
This maga group are some mental giants in 2016 no h1 workers hurray 2024 h1 good for country hurray, the mental state of this people is something else,we are going to cut your social security hurray no medicine hurray amazing! Now if you are a millionaire a can understand no taxes great but the masses are broke like as people posting on this blog. Now here is a question why the Japanese don’t have h1 policies and they make good products. South Korea Singapore.
Hey George…To answer your question: Japan is the most racist country in the world and I’m fine with it. Culturally they are homogenous and fear failure and shaming themselves and their families more than anything. Their education system is one of the best in the world that prioritizes personal responsibility. They don’t need immigrants to produce some of the highest quality products in the world but eventually they will be forced to accept immigrants because of declining birthrates. I guarantee you they will only allow those who contribute positively to the country long term. Our H1B visa program should have the same goal. Best of the best who graduate from American Universities should not be routinely kicked out of the country when they graduate. Musk is 100% correct.
The dumb ones are easier to manipulate, which is less expensive. Kamala would have cost me 400 mil.
Here I thought the objective of MAGA immigration policy was to bring qualified people into the United states so as to further the growth of this country.
America needs engineers. There are significantly Great engineering universities in this country, producing engineers.
There should be more.
That there will be cultural differences when bringing engineers from overseas is a certainty. What does matter is if their allegiance will be to the adopted country or to where they come from.
In my part of US, Medical field is staffed with quite a few Doctors coming from India.
They work hard and are bringing Family along with them.
MAGA immigration policy is not Dem open borders.
I will add, since there are many mentally challenged in these blog posts, there is a difference between open borders 15 millions invasion and closed borders with requiring a reason for being allowed in.
Are any of you Musk/Trump haters aware of the contribution of these “Operation Paperclip” migrants? Musk is not about saving money, he’s about getting the beat of the best. Why can’t you knuckleheads get that?
From Grok…
Besides Wernher von Braun, numerous German scientists, engineers, and technicians were brought to the United States after World War II through Operation Paperclip. Here are some notable figures:
These individuals contributed significantly to America’s rocket and space programs, particularly in the development of ballistic missiles and the technology that led to the Apollo moon landings. Operation Paperclip involved over 1,600 German specialists, many of whom had been part of the Nazi regime, highlighting a complex moral and ethical dimension to the U.S. Cold War strategy.
Posts on X also mention the broad impact of these scientists and engineers, emphasizing how their expertise helped advance U.S. space technology post-war.https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1749166066331193344/RK6IRmoo_normal.jpg
Pretty sure those guys could’ve qualified for an O-1 visa.
And lets not gloss over the fact that all of the above were vetted by the US Military and their scientists and engineers and that their work was on full display on the battlefield for all the world to see.
While Operation Paperclip brought many German rocket engineers, technicians, and scientists to the US after WW2, be aware that many other engineers etc came from equally important areas–eg plastics.
Also, let’s not forget the massive exodus of Jewish engineers, scientists, artists, etc who fled Germany in the 1930s. Many took up teaching and research positions in US universities, greatly expanding/improving a wide range of areas.
Albert Einstein the most obvious example, Flingel. Would he be allowed to immigrate to America today?
There was also the national interest of keeping these people out of the hands of the Soviets or helping the technical capabilities of the industries of our “allies”.
Comparing this example to the H1b visa program is pretty superficial.
My point being they were people of extreme competency in their fields. If we don’t encourage todays foreigners like them to remain in America after graduating at the top of their class in American Universities, other countries will gladly recruit them to improve theirs.
… and Americans aren’t the best at anything but handing me subsidies to hire immigrants with.
Thanks for reminding us of this illustrious period in U.S. history.
When the government was giving jobs to Nazis, while blacklisting American citizens.
>>>Musk jumped from supporting Democrats to support of Trump, because Trump was easier to buy<<<
Musk bought Twitter to open the platform up to different views. As far as I can see as a user of X Musk lets users disagree with him on the platform he owns and lets ppl debate contentious issues like Covid and political corruption ie Hunter’s Laptop, unlike Dorsey and the prior BoD who were basically handmaidens for unconstitutional govt censors.
Similarly, Musk backed Trump b/c Trump was not part of the DC Censorship machine and was instead a TARGET of the DC Censorship machine.
No. It was because the Democrats had become toxic in just about every way.
Musk is now censoring people who disagree with him.
You’re mean! I’m gonna buy this blog and kick you off!
As long as your views align with mine.
The MSM might be on to something with their President Musk banter
Elon sends out a crazy tweet to make Trump’s position seem reasonable. These guys are genius.
Uh yeah, that’s it. I’m a genius!
Throw out the thugs and bring in the best and brightest. That is the most Trumpian thing ever.
Till now the H1 B visa system was not on people’s radar but thanks to Musk we will now have a lasar focus on it that will give us a needed debat. Is it worth it or not and if so how much and in what areas? In stead of a rubber stamp by employers we will get something good for everybody….or not.
No one cares about the H! B visas. It is a manufactured issue. A few employers use them but the numbers are trivial. As is evident from this article and many of the comments, it is all about generating heat and bloviation. It has nothing to do with the concerns about immigration.
Exactly! Meanwhile the dangerous debt ratchets higher and more cheap labor that drives up rents crosses the border, because the American people are believing the divisive propaganda, and not holding their Republican and Democrat Uniparty leaders accountable for lies and failure, but instead, rewarding them for bad behavior.
The Wall Street Journal’s COVID bombshell exposes how federal agencies carried out the biggest scientific con of the century.
From the very start of the COVID pandemic in America, federal bureaucrats and politicians rushed to suppress evidence that the pandemic originated from a Chinese government lab bankrolled by US government agencies.
In 2021, key Biden administration officials effectively exonerated the Chinese government, even though Beijing had completely stonewalled any outside investigation into the origin of the COVID-19 virus.
The FBI’s top expert concluded that the virus leaked from the lab — but he was side-railed by the Biden administration, blocked from presenting evidence at a key White House meeting in August 2021.
Three scientists at the National Center for Medical Intelligence, part of the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency, also concluded that COVID leaked from a lab, but they were muzzled. The inspector general is conducting an investigation to determine why those experts were silenced.
The Department of Energy also concluded that COVID originated in a lab. In September 2023, a senior CIA analyst told a congressional committee that six key CIA analysts had been bribed by the agency to abandon their conclusion that COVID originated in a lab leak.

I agree too that we should freely allow the best in.
The lottery system on the visas is another problem.
Trump will back down on deportations as well, and I also agree with that.
But Musk invited controversy when he didn’t have to, and it won’t help.
Finally I have first hand experience in these visas. I had to manage some India COBOL programmers. They were generally bad although there was an occasional very good one.
Mid-level management just could not convince upper management that the quality of work was not worth the lower price we paid. Others often had to re-do their work.
Now, this was over 20 years ago, but has anything changed?
He invited it on purpose because it needs to be revamped.
The problem IMO is that I.T. is not understand by upper management. They know they need the stuff to run, but what it takes to keep things running is like witchdoctory. So if IT management guy says “we need to hire two more people to do XYZ”, the upper management says yes – because they can’t refute the IT guy, since they know nothing about computers – but they’d rather hire the cheap guys.
Perhaps at the risk of being off-topic, how’s everything at Boeing?
Hello Boeing my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Robust debate within the administration seems like a good thing.
I happen to agree with Musk. Highly valuable people should have as few barriers as possible to living here. The greatest nation in the world should have the greatest people.
They aren’t sending their best. You do realize it is a lottery system.
More like the best-connected.
Vivek’s cousins are the best!
they’re not highly valuable, like this comment.
I agree too
And Trump will back down on deportations as well, and I also agree with that
The problem is Musk invited controversy when he didn’t have to, and it won’t help
I agree with Trump adjusting the number (backing down) on deportations, but because He will settle eventually on the number He truly wants and will get. His banter was to rile up the emotional unstable Democrats (which is most), to make them look and sound as silly as they are, on this particular topic.
I also agree it was unnecessary for Musk, to wade in like he did. He gets like Trump, when He is very passionate about something, that truly matters to Him. He will settle in just fine.
Got me lots and lots of attention though.
Read market-ticker.net for an excellent essay on this issue.

Well another rat you are implying that there is not enough smart Americans to fill whatever positions available great.
H1B megathread on x.

Great data! Quite compelling.
Fwiw i was told by a former Intel employee that it was Indians and the h1b visa that ran Intel into the ground. They said after then h1b changed to a lottery system, multiple contracting companies figured out how to hire workers in the US and place them at Intel. This started with companies like HCL who at one point had one employee for every Intel individual contributor. 2 decades later Intel is at its 1998 stock valuation and will be cutting many jobs and selling real estate. Intel will retreat into as TSMC like company imo. They’ve already had their lunch eaten by Arm, Nvidia,.Qualcomm and AMD. Look closely at H1B companies and you see poor quality and lot of fluff. Quantity cannot ever make up for quality.
Intel needs to up its subsidy game to compensate for all that. Lobbyists are the most important part of any corporation.

This will come back to haunt Trump imo. Trump feels he owes Musk because Musk donated the most. Trump is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. Trump is now a RINO as is Musk. If Trump does not side with what the Maga folks want, it is only a matter of time before he is gone. If JD Vance carries water for the MAGA folks then it is not above those that attacked the Capitol to knock off a president.
– This will come back to haunt Trump imo. > Not a chance, and quite frankly if it were not for Musk, we would not be where we are right now. Thank Musk!
– Trump feels he owes Musk because Musk donated the most. > The Citizens voted the most in sheer numbers, and total donations. Musk is 1 Person, 1 Vote, and that’s all.
– Trump is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. > Seriously? Your a Fool if you believe that!
– Trump is now a RINO as is Musk. > Seriously? Your a Fool if you believe that!
– If Trump does not side with what the Maga folks want, it is only a matter of time before he is gone. > Trump IS MAGA!! Your Ignorant too I see…
– If JD Vance carries water for the MAGA folks then it is not above those that attacked the Capitol to knock off a president > I hope He Carries water for MAGA, as He is The VP, and second in command, Of The MAGA Movement!
Whew…
The hypocrisy and hubris of so many commenters here is quite hilarious!
When Clinton said “deplorables” and Biden supposedly called MAGA people “garbage” there were some people on this site ready to lynch them. And tons that commented ad nauseum about those statements.
But when Musk directly calls the MAGA people “contemptible fools”, there’s nary a whiner among the MAGA cult here. I honestly can’t tell if you’re too stupid to know he’s specifically referencing you, or if it’s because you’re the next iteration of the Branch Davidians and you’ve already drank the Kool-Aid and ready to die on the MAGA hill.
Either way, lots of comments here (you’ve mastered the click-bait on this one, Mish) and hubris throughout. Congrats to so many!
You only wish they loved you the way they love me!
denial is more than just a river in egypt
I think most strong conservatives posting here are quite upset with what Musk has said. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a brilliant, motivated to succeed guy, but he’s also a hothead & loudmouth. We ALL knew this in advance of his joining Team Trump. So, most of us aren’t surprised by his rhetoric or position on this subject.
Be that as it may, I’m glad he’s stuck his foot in his mouth early. Once he does this a couple more times, hopefully Trump will ditch him, but I have my doubts. We all know Musk is at his core part of the Trump team to benefit his companies.
As for H1-B’s, I don’t think that I’ve heard either Musk or Elon call for reforms which are very much needed. No surprise there.
Musk puts his money where his mouth is. If he says something you can believe he will all he has to make it happen. That us something we are not used to anymore but we better get used to it again.
Full self driving is only weeks away! You’ll be able to send your car out to do Uber for you!
A lot of mouthy people got ditched by Trump in his first administration.
I’ll give them both the benefit of the doubt, until they’re in office.
Musk can be bought down just like Goliath.
US depend on foreign countries for cheap goods, foreign savings to invest in treasury and many things including man power, also educated persons ( STEMs ). US can’t do derisk. China is adversary because it is getting rich and strong. India will be US’s friend as long as China is rich and strong but become adversary if China collapse.
That was how US tackled USSR.
This is where AI comes in, replacing the need for humans at all levels.
So it looks like the plan is to reduce the number of illegal immigrants but increase the number of legal immigrants so we wind up with even more immigrants than we had before.
… working for much cheaper, and unable to job hop easily because of paperwork and deportation if the paperwork fails. All the extortionate benefits of the illegal, but paperwork magic makes it legal for H1Bs!
Geez…..talk about missing the point. A million plus unvetted, semi literate illegal immigrants every year compared to sixty five thousand H! B visas plus twenty thousand for those with graduate degrees obtained from U.S. universities. It’s a plot, I tell ya, a plot!!!
The “legal” immigrants get to vote. And they tend to vote democrat.
Per Elon’s tweet at the top, apparently, SpaceX can only hire U.S. citizens according to national security law. DOJ complained that Musk had not hired enough migrants and Musk reminded them it was illegal to do so.
Shows how stupid the DOJ has become under the Democrats. You would think someone would have checked first but no, they went ahead and accused Musk and spaces of doing something illegal when to hire foreigners would itself been illegal.
– Problems for Musk?
> None that I am aware of? He seems to be doing wonderful, and preparing I would guess, for his new role. He has so many hats to wear now, so this task will fit right in with so many others. Another problem our Country faces, that He can possibly help resolve. Such a “True American”
– Problems with containing ones “Emotions”?
> Seems to be the Democrats and Woke Crowds biggest issue. They can’t get out of the weeds, and as a result, don’t see what they are actually looking at. Bubbles do that to one’s visibility… The “Diet Coke Button” is a perfect example of this. Seriously? WTF! It harkens all the way back, to when Trump got “2 Scoops” of ice cream. The Clown Show is alive and well…
– So Musk proved?
> He can be crude, Wow! Stop the Presses! Have we got a ridiculous story to print!! He is also very powerful, and can be arrogant at times. Wow! A Billionaire being Arrogant at times, whew!! He is Powerful Too! Wow! One of the “Most Richest People” on Our Planet is Powerful? Say it ain’t so…
– Musk went beyond his mission of cost cutting and its not the first time.
> Man that Musk is really something else… He hasn’t even officially been named for the role. He hasn’t officially started The Job, and I must have missed the “Acceptance Speach” Damn It!!
– Musk also interjected himself into Trump’s appointments, nearly costing Scott Bessent his nomination.
> Yeah I thought I did hear that Musk, the Man, the Citizen, gave “His Opinion” about a few things, in regards and relationship to His future Role, if He accepts it. Nice to see an assertive Person in that particular role I must say!
– Musk jumped from supporting Democrats to support of Trump
> Absolutely, as I would have. Musk doesn’t like many of the same Dems Policies that Trump and His selected Cabinet doesn’t like either. It’s exactly why he got involved with social media and fought and continues to fight for “Free Speech”
– President-elect Donald Trump told The New York Post on Saturday that he supports H-1B visas
> OK, so that’s his opinion. I am glad we had that reporte… um told to us. I am not sure I may have made it through my day, without knowing that. Wow!
– Trump suggested during an interview on the All-In podcast in June
> Here we go once again, not surprisingly, as they have nothing else to believe in or speak about positively. “Trump Suggested” Wow! In was “In June” Wow! Can we get a copy of that June addition. I want to see what other irrelevant news was going on way back then. Maybe somebody got divorced, or married or something?
>> I really hope Our Country, can get past the emotional road blocks and see the truth out there, and start working together! Many are, but it’s largely Republicans, as the Dems seem to be emotionally hung up on the past. What was said, thought, implied, hoped for, considered, and treat all of it as meaningful for today. That and being “Woke” is just crushing their ability to think forward. Look at tomorrow and forget the stain that was yesterday. Fix it or get out of the way! Talk positively about it or STFU! Suggest helpful ideas that will be overall positive for the Country, Our Country. Stop listening to what’s being parroted by our MSM and start seeking out your own answers.
“Watch, Listen, and Learn” and help get Our Country back on track Economically, and as a Whole!!!
Ok, so if the debt is higher after 4 years and or if they start QE again, can we move on from Musk and MAGA to the party with policy that prioritizes cleaning up the mess, Libertarian? And if any Libertarians go back on their word, we vote them out too.
Absolutely! I will for certain!!
Musk has the persona of coyote…..
Wile E. Coyote, genius. That’s how he’s always billed himself, and in some ways, he deserves the credit. Who else would think of such elaborate schemes to get a great meal? Who else could draw up such complicated blueprints? Does it matter that all of his schemes failed? It may have left him perpetually hungry, but it doesn’t change his status as one of the most creative and undaunted coyotes around.
Hey! I have a lot of big ideas myself but I never stumbled into the situation where anyone would pay attention to me or fund my ideas.
I have been calling for building a Moon base (before the Chinese beat us to it) and a major space station, 10 miles or more in diameter to replace the dinky ISS, for decades, among many other great ideas.
Musk got his break with PayPal. That was his stepping stone. Without this break, Musk might have been just another one of the numerous smart, autistic tech workers in SF/Silicon Valley, who contribute to many projects but remain nameless and unknown.forever.
Once I own acme.com, I will be unstoppable!
He already got roadrunner long ago and now is after bigger game.
I don’t have a problem with H-1B’s for legitimate reasons. Disney, for one, apparently fired then current U.S. IT workers, after having them train their H1-B replacements. If it’s just being done to cut costs, when Americans are available, that i have a problem with.
I came across this comment to an article on another site about this same news item. Didn’t realize there is also a tax credit and avoidance of paying FICA taxes that factor into the equation.

“This happened to my brother-in-law at American Express. He was asked to train 12 Russian replacement workers. Once they were trained to do the job of the Americans were doing, they laid off the 12 American workers. This happened in Florida 15 years ago and it’s been going on for a long time.
Three ways corporations, make money for NOT hiring Americans:1)Corporations, had it written into law where they get a 15% tax break for hiring foreign workers. 2)They also Pay these foreign workers 50% less than their American counterparts Who are being replaced
3) Corporations do not pay 15.3% into FICA for these workers because they are here on a Visa and they will not get Social Security when they retire b/c they are not citizens.
In Iselin, NJ, as well as many other areas around the country, H1B’s And many are going foreigners, esp. Indians. They are not citizens are buying up all the homes, supplanting American home ownership, and taking all the jobs that used to go to American sons and daughters. This has got to stop. These companies need to be stopped& all temporary H1B’s work visas ended & the recipients need to go home.”
Anybody who says anything like this should automatically be replaced by a foreign worker. I mean, if you “don’t have a problem” with it, then why not? You want it, you got it. Seems fair to me.
The sheer stupidity of people like you is absolutely breathtaking.
Why is there only $1 Trillion for DOGE to cut? MAGA has the White House, Congress, and SCOTUS. They can dismantle as much as they want! Burn it all down.
So many things I could say here as I work with H1Bs but am a US citizen. They aren’t sending their best. I think the program needs to be scrapped until every qualified citizen is employed.
No shit
Just remove the incentives. I saw this comment to a different article. Probably don’t want to legislate equal wages, but I’d say getting rid of the tax break and forcing companies to pay FICA taxes would do it.

I agree – I think “the best” prefer other places than the US, these days.
You have four levels of highly skilled foreign workers:
1) Best of the best – this “appears” to be the group Musk is referring to. The funny thing is that we’re already losing some of this talent to China and that trend will continue.
2) Cutting edge military / national security related research & development – we probably don’t want to depend on Chinese H1-B or O-1 visas for obvious reasons.
3) Cutting edge corporate research & development – this is probably where allowing foreigners to compete makes the most sense.
4) Every day highly skilled persons supporting vary types of functions across a broad range of industries – this is the break & butter of H1-B visas that have a clear bias towards paying individuals less than the average wage, no benefits, & no workers’ rights.
The needed reform is to require all highly skilled visa holders to be full employees of the companies they work for and to cut out the middle-men who “sponsor” bringing them here. Once the economics of cost cutting is eliminated, Americans would have an astronomically better chance of being employed or not replaced.
But, these reforms aren’t things Elon, Vivek or Trump will support for obvious reasons. Back in 2016. Megan Kelly asked Trump about H1-B visas, and guess what? He was totally against them. I wonder what / who changed?
277 million changed his mind.
Elon has an agenda. Mike you have an Ajenda. At least he stands up for what he believes. Not like a bunch of wishing washers now days. So SUCK IT Mike and deal with it.
I believe Musk’s agenda is to become Emperor of Earth and then Mars.
Correct.. then I can have my. robot armies cleanse this world of filth.
Companies should only be able to bring in people form outside the USA when it can be proven that they are indeed special.
I don’t know how to do this, but perhaps every corp gets to hire 10 people form outside the USA who need green cards. And unlike carbon credits, you can’t trade your allocation.
Indeed.
In response, Musk gives a wink & a sly smile as he sips his $1000/glass wine while toking on a blunt. He replies “Thanks for sharing”.
“Musk jumped from supporting Democrats to support of Trump, because Trump was easier to buy.”
And Trump was the better choice in the election for America…?
He’s an amazing sock puppet, and the only way an illegal alien like me can score control of this country. He was also a bargain at 277 mil.
Trump was a Democrat until 2012. How quickly people forget. Lots of democrats realized the party no longer represents them
Stupid people deserve stupid representation, and the republicans are solidly more stupid than the democrats.
Not that it matters now. I won’t allow another election.
I’ll iterate: On a 1 – 10, Trump is a “3” (“Ask not what you can do for your country, ask “what can my country do for my net worth?”) Barack Hussein was a “-2” (nearly doubled the debt accrued by the previous 43 Presidents COMBINED, and, along with Eric Holder, DID double the amount of spying on everyday American citizens), Bush was a “-3” (how many kids died so Cheney could gain control of a Middle Eastern country’s oil fields?), and Biden/Harris were a “-4” – 10,000 ILLEGAL migrants/welcomed across our borders every day, transported mostly to the swing states so they would vote Democratic FOREVER, circumventing any likelihood of another Republican President. When, exactly, was integrity put on life support?
Biden clearly worst President ever. Not close
Hows your portfolio looking, Mid? Highest ever under Biden. Or do you actually have any money?
Worst ever. The stock market is a measure of bullshit. Tell me when I parrot markets. I’d rather see stocks at half and real wages higher. That’s a healthy economy. Inflationary depression is not
Sorry to hear that, boo boo. I got rich as hell over the last 4 years.
I liked the part at the end of the movie when George Bailey caught Old Man Potter secretly commenting on message boards.
Trump made the largest deficit in US history, so I know he’ll make it rain for me.
