Goodbye Hawthorne, California. Hello Starbase, Texas. Elon, what took you so long?
Final Straw
Gavin Newsom signed AB1955 today which bans schools from making rules requiring parental notification if a child identifies as transgender.
Assemblymember Bill Essayli, R-Riverside, who opposed the bill, said it “codifies the government’s authority to keep secrets from parents.”

Sarcasm of the Day

Message of the Day

I wholeheartedly endorse two ideas.
- Only you can prevent Democrats from turning your state into California or Illinois.
- Get the hell out of California now.
Quick Check
A quick check shows I mentioned the state of California 196 times this year. I am sure none of them were any good. Here are a few favorites.

It’s called seeing the writing on the wall.
MAGA groupies are easier to get to cheer for silly handouts and tax payer funded “contracts” handed out willy-nilly to “Texas” than to “California.”
Just as they’re easier to sucker into mindlessly being robbed to fund pointless MIC and “compete with scary Xi for attention” projects; than the “green” drivel which has been The Handoutmens favored venue for the past decade.
Even Musk can fail to figure that change out. Like any beggar, he’s going with the anticipated flow of funds.
Solid business thinking there, Elon. I’m sure all those engineers are really eager to move to Texas because you’re upset you can’t control how people dress.
This is the most spectacular self immolation of the 21st century.
Then why is Twitter more popular than ever and SpaceX more in demand?
Democrats falsely claim they are doing it to protect the children. Democrats have a politicized transgender agenda, which belies their claim of doing it for the children. It is another Marxist agenda for an ulterior purpose.
Some Democrat defending the bill said that without the bill that children questioning their sexuality who could no longer talk about it in the classroom would no longer have any safe space to talk about it. Since when is the classroom, in the presence of your class mates, the appropriate place for mental health counseling?
Its rather hard to sharply turn a battleship, or even a cruise ship, one must ease into it. Moving a corporation or 2 or 3 is not a challenge done flippantly.
I think Musk has been mulling this over for a good while and now, he can make that maneuver. Its not a trivial thing he’s done.
In many ways he has been a one man pivot away from the deepstate that is to big a profile to ignore or dismiss, and the proles and the followers are forced to accept a new dialogue that hasn’t been in their programming.
he has helped if not single handedly moved the Overton Window. – compare him to Gates or Soros or Warren Buffet. See what some do with a fortune
to create chaos in the world, and see what a man with a single vision can do to improve the world.
Just when you think California cannot get crazier, the state proves you wrong.
Austin is an upgrade but it also has a homeless drug addict crime problem. Talking to a relative that lives there and they are in the process of moving. It’s definitely not the same place it was less than 15 years ago.
Californication … The Hair from San Francisco was dyslexic, he had problems with numbers, don’t blame his spending! Funny that Dianne Feinstein, Pelosi, Kamala also started out in San Fran politics. Strip citizens of their 2nd Amendment rights, push gay marriage into trans dysphoria for children, import unskilled labor to pick your grapes and host important MIC functions, spend, spend, spend. That’s the progression for progressives. Like a Grateful Dead concert’s crowd without the music.
its not funny, even psycho radicals need a base of operations. All the mutant bunnies live in the same rabbit hole.
Love to see Musk join the side of reason, competence and fairness! The Dems have been after him for a longtime now, so good for him!
I hope the Millions upon Millions, Musk has now committed to Trump and his campaign to become President once again, DOES JUST THAT!!!
Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle Blames “Sloped Roof” for Security Failure.
I blame sheer and total incompetence, and quite possibly, with a motive involved to do so, but I digress…
These people in charge (DEI or Not) are absolute morons and so delusional in their approaches to any issues of Safety for American Citizens, obviously which now includes the Leading Presidential Candidate, so go figure for yourself, what that may imply… Not like it’s a stretch by anyone to think this way, based upon Open Borders, with drugs, crime, etc. streaming across and rules in place to allow it to continue unabated, and with no consequences to the perpetrators…
Oops… my damn Cat! Sorry…
But Kimmy, the counter sniper team was situated on a … gasp … sloped roof. You know, with all the photos. The gaslighting has gone beyond surreal. At a certain point peeps tune out the crazy. You don’t hang out and study the guy with mental issues in the subway, you turn away and if you have sense, move far away.
One of the principles of the Skunk Works at Lockheed when it was run by the legendary Kelly Johnson was that the engineers who design the planes and the workers who build the planes should be in the same building. Not just the same state or city, the same physical building. That forces them to work together. It makes cooperation infinitely easier if the design and manufacturing are so close that the workers can walk across the building and tell the responsible engineer that there is a problem to solve. The big bosses can’t run interference between different branches in different locations like they did at Boeing, to their eternal shame.
Musk may have made the right decision for reasons that have nothing to do with building spaceships, but a win is a win.
Musk uses the same method of everyone in the same space and available.
your comment is too terse for me to parse, could you expound on what you mean?
Always liked Kelly’s last Rule: “Never do business with the Navy.”
FYI: Personally I have nothing against the Navy.
Musk has been specifically targeted by the Democrats since he bought Twitter and turned it into something that competes directly and more successfully with the Left legacy media. They are actively trying to ruin him so having his headquarters in or his company incorporated in a Democrat state is highly dangerous for him. Fortunately, he has states that welcome him and his businesses.
I used to be mystified as to why the Democrats would get into such a vendetta against considering how his companies are contributing to the country but now I know why. The Democrat Party is run like a Mafia family where power is the only important thing and will do anything thing no matter how despicable to keep it.
Cali is the biggest pit of a state in the country. The people who live there deserve what they get. Good for Musk.
I cannot fault those with power or resources for the monster that Cali has morphed into. The resonant forces that destroyed Cali are the power structure and its enablers/arms the media. The Los Angeles times was once a great informer and influencer in politics, now its mostly dead entertainment and I say that attempting to be kind for the rotting corpse of a newspaper.
Cali has been a social engineering experiment for decades possibly back to the advent of the “Talkies”
You program generations long enough you get a pliable easily controlled mass of mindless zombies.
It takes something like Musk to get them to think outside their reactionary mindset. Though thinking is not a prized function in the land of “My Feelings”.
ooops bit of a typo, change line 1, “with” to “without”
I cannot fault those WITHOUT power or resources for the monster that Cali has morphed into
There are still plenty of good normal people in California despite appearances. The problem is that this place has been overrun by a willful and concerted effort by bad actors. Hollywood and Silicon Valley are primary culprits in this. These of us conservatives still here don’t ‘deserve what we get’
Gavin Newsom is a one man wrecking crew against business in California. I’ve been around a long time (since Pat Brown) and never seen one this bad. Not even Gray Davis. California is a one party state and we’d leave if it wasn’t that our children and grandchilden live here.
Texas is closer to more major NASA sites: Houston, Michoud, Huntsville, and Spsce Coast Florida
Musk runs his trap a lot without doing much of any of it. I can only say time will tell but I suspect this is just more bullshit from that garbage can of a man.
Wow. Envy?
MDS syndrome
and exactly what have you accomplished with your life?
Wow. Guy enlarges the user engagement of Twitter/X, puts satellites into space, invents neural brain implants, is the world’s richest man, and you call him a garbage can. What a pathetic and insecure little man you are.
Not discussed anywhere thr last two weeks is power problems in Texas. Texas keeps inviting more growth but can’t support it.
https://www.texastribune.org/2024/07/15/texans-power-outages-hurricane-beryl/
California is the state banning gas cars and gas stoves and scheduled to close Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. Good luck to them running EV’s on solar and unicorn farts.
Then explain why companies keep moving there.
Like minded easily bribed politicians?
Or, non-insane, non-marxist leaders who understand business?
These are solvable problems, not intractable. a nuclear plant or 2 would help, short term more gas fired power plants built close to the gas sources..
Texas exports a lot of oil and gas that could be used locally to solve the power problems.
They merely need the will and the gumption, like the rest of the nation.

Born and raised in California. Lived there 56 years. Left 4 years ago for the Carolinas. Had to leave extended family and friends behind, but still the best move I’ve ever made. Only regret is not doing it sooner. California is dead for the foreseeable future.
Oddly the one thing I notice now in California which isn’t discussed. Less traffic and less crowds and higher quality of life bc of fewer people competing foe everything from roads, to parking spaces and nearly everything else. I’m glad people are leaving. After living in 3 parts of the country, the only one that is attempting to limit growth is Calfiornia. So good luck with your rampant growth of everything Texas and others. I see counties and towns in Tennesse now trying to limit growth by passing laws to keep the size of properties above a certain acreage. As my dad always says you don’t want all the growth bc you can’t handle most of it. The backlash to growth has started.
So many factual errors. California is not trying to limit growth. The population loss from people leaving is being canceled out by illegal immigration. The net shrinkage of the population is around 1%. The traffic and crowding in California has not abated one iota. Quality of life is not improving because cost of living in California is rising. Doubt it? Just go to any restaurant there and see what you pay. Go shop for housing while you are at it. Still the highest in the country.
It’s the “best and the brightest” that are leaving, individuals and businesses. And unskilled illegals cannot make up for this loss; they only add to the welfare rolls. It’s not rocket science.
Now SpaceX is leaving. Now that is rocket science — all those engineers and technicians, gone.

My parents just visited from Texas and said it was more expensive there to eat out at restaurant in suburban Dallas. They were shocked when they saw entrees under $20.
Apparently they weren’t eating in Palo Alto.
.
And did they mention the homelessness and property crime epidemic?
Texas is way behind California when it comes to the right to shit on the sidewalk.
California is huge Barstow county runs from LA county to Nevada. The state comprises 1/2 of the entire west coast. The population is mostly crammed into 3 hospitable areas, LA,SF and Northern Cali.
The population could easily be handled in the exess undeveloped land available, but due to real estate developers and a lack of desire, for naught but money (taxes), it has all been shoehorned into these 3 areas.
assholes and elbows and everybody wants to go home at the same time, eat at the same time, sleep at the same time. it tends to overwhelm all the man made resources. They still dump drinking water in the ocean rather than build more resevoirs. Is this sane behaviour in a dessert?
Unfortunately there are too many things binding me here at the moment…but my yearning is to move away from this sh!thole state
I’ve lived in both. Texas is way shittier. Imagine 3 cities the size of LA with more Mexicans.
Then enjoy your servitude in California
No estan mexicanos en Californica? Hay muchos, y ellos no hablan el ingles!
If that’s the real Casual Observer, then he lives in Austin. Which is basically California.
Incorrect. Never lived in Austin. Truth be told I live in a purple county. Most people where I live are neither Republican nor Democrat. And the economy hasn’t slowed much where I live. Look nothing is perfect anywhere. Nothing is as great or as bad as it’s portrayed. We are stuck with slow growth and no recession and decreasing prices.
Then you’re either suffering dementia, forgetting what you posted here about your real estate holdings/locations over the last couple years, or you should call yourself “Casual Observer 2”
It is a different kind of servitude in Texas. Stop acting like it is so different.
try not to think in choices of only “california” or “texas” – the United States is a rather large land mass and has something for everyone who gives it a little thought and planning.
Speaking of government meddling, how can anything like this be legal? This is the desperation of Biden as he tries to buy votes.
Just make it an official act and voila!
like making drugs illegal, that cured everything…..
Of course it won’t work/ backfire
I don’t want to be forced to move by these nutjobs. I grew up here and my family is here.
Tough spot. When other’s ruin your home, what do you do? I have no solution, as California now seems beyond repair. It’s a self-inflicted wound as the majority of voters in that fine utopia elect those very nutjobs you lament.
But ex-Californians are not popular either in other western states. They too often leave the state because of the very reason Musk is moving Space-X, but they still subscribe to those liberal biases. I remember hearing on a Southern Oregon public radio station (!) their popular saying that the only thing worse than a Californian was an ex-Californian. That was in the 1980s. Oregonians were increasingly anti-Californian, until they were overrun. Look at Bend, Cali-North now.
Move somewhere not in the west and you won’t get harassed, maybe. Too bad the red counties can’t secede…yet.
We made the Move from South Dakota to Oregon (Coast) this past year. No sales taxes…a big one. We also would never consider Cal due to Newsom and the ULTRA-LIBS with the Tranny thing and other aberrations.
I left Oregon 25 years ago. The southern coast can be nice, but the politics in that state are really bad (bright red). As liberal+1 as Cali. I think I would have stayed in SD.
Oregon is geographically a wonderful state, but politically its as close to hell as one can get without being in Compton….
Great move by a very smart man.
