Two survivors of a lethal U.S. strike Sept. 2 in the Caribbean struggled to flip a remnant of their capsized boat over the course of an hour and waved as an aircraft passed overhead, according to lawmakers and other people briefed on the attack.
Watching the morning attack unfold on live video from his command center at Fort Bragg, N.C., Navy Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley ordered a second strike on the alleged drug boat that has become a flashpoint in a debate about whether the response constituted a war crime.
The details of the video were described by the lawmakers and people who attended multiple briefings Thursday with Bradley on Capitol Hill.
Some lawmakers claim that the men appeared helpless with no weapons or communications devices. But Trump administration officials and some Republican lawmakers say the second attack was justified because the survivors might still have sought to deliver their shipment and threatened potential rescuers.
Two lawmakers who viewed the video said the survivors’ wave appeared to be an appeal for help from a U.S. military aircraft. Bradley told the members of Congress that they could have been signaling to other vessels to help them finish their drug run, but noted a surveillance drone detected no other boats in the immediate vicinity.
Let’s stop right there. Anyone who believe these survivors were waving to “narco-terrorist” rescuers is brain dead.
No one was going to attempt to rescue this group. There were no other boats in the area.
This is an excuse for murder. And for now, it appears the murderers are going to get away with it.
There is no such thing as a “narco-terrorist”. It is a made up name with no legal meaning. These people are “narco-terrorists” because Trump says they are.

The very idea of tackling drugs outside the United States is foolish; the problem is within, where you are incapable of solving it. It would be possible to do so with appropriate laws firmly enforced, as in Singapore (the death penalty for possession of 2 grams or more of hard drugs). Of course, this is impossible, just as it is in France; it would cause a massacre. Or rather, it would be possible, but under the same circumstances as in Singapore, that is, after a civil war.

So it appears as though the American Military, has deemed these violent acts of aggression, as acts of “Self Defense” against “Narco Terrorist” (Gang, Drug Dealers, Child Killers etc.) As such, any and all aggression may be used to assure the drugs and any vessels carrying the drugs, are to be destroyed on contact. There Actions are labeled as a “National Security Threat” In this particular example, The reason for the second strike, was the inability to know if another boat was notified, and it would come and complete the mission at hand by the boat. The Drugs and the Delivery Means or in this instance, the Boat and anything connected to it, was to hence be Destroyed.
While I may not agree with the way they are going about things, in their entirety, I have no issue with the premise of the reasoning and idea behind it. It would be thereby proper execution to deliver the fatal blow to the boat/drugs, and Terrorist be damned… Just saying.
International Law Considerations are: Law of the Sea, which prohibits interference with vessels in international waters unless under specific circumstances like “Hot Pursuit” which this obviously was, but in the sense of their mission of Destroying The Drugs, AND The Means of Delivery.

Anybody who has taken five minutes to look at supply and demand in the market for illegal drugs in the US would conclude that the demand side is highly inelastic and the supply side is highly elastic. Thus, even if the sinking of boats in the Caribbean would have an impact on supply (which almost certainly it will not have), the result will be that American consumers of illegal drugs will pay higher prices, while their consumption levels will remain the same. Conclusion: The Trump administration is simply economically illiterate.

A couple of thoughts to add in no particular order- If this action was designed to stop the flow of drugs to the US – as Hegseth said they are having trouble finding boats. that must mean there are less drugs on US streets. I have not read reporting on this because the bulk of drugs do not come in on the boats but other means and of course we are not doing anything on that front. Second, we have no proof these are all drug boats. If we wanted to prove it, we could simply take them and prove it to the American people. But then we would have to deal with all the ‘woke, legal stuff’ But a little proof would be nice. And finally, we shoot at boats, what to stop Trump from starting to shoot Americans he suspects are drug dealers. Thanks to Senator Paul – one of the few sane voices in the Senate.
