Miami Declares State of Emergency Over a Flood of Students on Spring Break

More Than We Can Handle

Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber declared a state of emergency on Saturday, saying the crowds that have descended on the city recently are “more than we can handle.”

“Too many are coming, really, without the intention of following the rules, and the result has been a level of chaos and disorder that is just something more than we can endure,” Gelber told CNN’s Ana Cabrera.

An 8 p.m. curfew will be put in place in the city’s entertainment district, and some roads will be closed, Gelber said at a news conference Saturday. The measures will be in effect for the next 72 hours, he said.

At night, “it feels like a rock concert, wall-to-wall people over blocks and blocks,” Gelber told Cabrera. On Friday night, someone shot a weapon into the air, and there was a riot, he said.

“Other things have happened that are similarly challenging, and so it feels like a tinder, it feels like just any match could set it off,” the mayor said. The situation has worsened with each day, Gelber said, and the pandemic “makes things even more challenging.”

Curfew Set

Let’s Check In on the Curfew

Note I originally said “millennials”. It’s mostly generation Z, Zoomers.

The number of Covid deaths is likely 10-20% higher based on excess deaths. Have not done a count lately

I was standing on my balcony last night and I heard some cat-calls…then I saw a guy running naked down the street at a condo complex a few doors down. it is definitely Spring Break in Colorado.

At least he appeared to be social distancing.

Most people are masking here. I was surprised to see how many people, including teenagers and twenty-somethings, were wearing masks even while skiing. It’s been warm. so it wasn’t out of a need to keep their noses warm. The rules only require them in the lift lines, which have not been long…with some exceptions, like the gondola station at the base, which gets backed up.

Restaurants here are taking the same precautions we’ve had going since June at home…..masks until seated…and it looked like maybe 50% capacity. Social distancing inside seemed adequate..

There is definitely some COVID fatigue. It’s one thing to pop on a mask to run into the grocery store. Wearing one all day long while skiing is another thing.

Most are from the ghettos of Miami, and lots of hardcore criminal gangs. Lower standards of behaviour and total disrespect for authority.Welcome to the new Miami the city that makes new low every year, new low in moral standards, new low in filthy behavior.

Miami Beach declares state of emergency over uncontrollable crowds As usual, the visual focus is on scantily-clad youthful revelers outdoors, where it’s relatively safe, and not on the businesses: The bars and restaurants which are crowded, closed, and close-contact settings. And, I suppose, the hotels/motels, too.

Millenials aren’t in college or high school anymore. Zoomers are.

Boomers can’t seem grasp that concept. My guess is because it brings into sharp focus the fact that most of them will be dead within a decade.

That’s not a party. It’s a political rally against police brutality and therefore does not spread the Covid virus. Saying it is a party is fake news.

Actually, they are refugees who have entered the US illegally and therefore do not spread the Covid virus.

Spring break? From what schools?

Almost everyone I know has had it with masks and lockdowns. In fact, the only people I know that are for it are online. Granted I live in a rural, mostly conservative area. I went to Kansas City tonight and it was pretty busy. I would expect to see piles of bodies on the street corner to justify such draconian measures that we’ve endured. 100% BS.

The masks suck, but I’m not gonna get myself infected one month before I can get vaccinated.

I wear a mask too for the same reason. I am in the high-risk group because of my age so it’s a no-brainer.

And these kids are all in their early twenties or late teens. I bet more will die from alcohol / drug overdose or gun/knife wounds than will die from Covid. They know there is very little for them to worry about.

They are never getting back this year of their lives and a chance at Spring Break etc. It’s easy to see why they are going there to party. I would have done the same at their age.

I did the same too. 40% of Floridians are now vaccinated. The high-risk groups are covered now.

The virus doesn’t care about the common masks people wear. The pores of common masks are larger than the microscopic virus.

70% of Covid patients at 11 academic clinics in a study last July, said they always wore a mask.
