Not going to bother looking into it, but have read that this clip is from 2017 and about 45, not Musk-ie. Regardless, her little comment shouldn’t amuse/shock/surprise anyone. Yellow journalism is well over 100 years old and W. R. Hurst had more control and less competition back in the day.
Too many people rely on ‘the news’ to do their thinking for them.

Not sure why the media is afraid of twitter. It is a private company that can do what they want. Of course the if the internet were ever regulated the way television media is, it would be over for a lot of companies like Twitter. That shoe hasn’t fallen yet but may with the new court. I predict a conservative court will eventually come down on the side of big media and have social media companies regulated the way big media is. In the end government is all about control and power whether you are liberal or conservative.

I can see this happening. Go to Reddit/r/conservative and say something even vaguely out of alignment with their story, and they’ll ban you in a heartbeat. The kooks that have taken over conservatisms also like banning books, theories, and ways of life.

Exactly. But these are all private platforms. It isn’t like holding a protest in a public space. The Supreme Court still hasn’t answered the question yet of whether the internet is considered a public space and should have the freedom of speech that actual public spaces do. I don’t think these are public spaces because none of the internet is owned by the government or public institutions. If the internet backbone owners decided one day that they were tired of some of their customers because they violated their terms of service, then they could shut them down. This actually happens to some companies on a regular basis.

“The dangerous edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media, trying to make up his own facts…”
That is what the media does. They make up their own facts. They produce a narrative. They parrot the narrative. They suppress or mock anything that contradicts their narrative.
The media is undermining itself, playing this game.
Safe and effective was a narrative. It was never the truth. There was a list of adverse reactions known before the Covid shots were released to the public. The media suppressed knowledge of them. The media mocked early treatment, which would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Ivermectin is a drug used by humans over 3.7 billion times, but was mocked as being a drug for horses.
The public is being played by the media.

Since we are creatures built around social interaction we as humans are experts at manipulating other members of our species. Because of this ability to manipulate we have also evolved to a high level the ability of detecting said manipulation. We often instinctively know when someone is feeding us bulls…t. These days those who manipulate tell us not to use this useful instinct and instead don’t question and just trust them.

You are one of those who don’t possess this fine sense of how to manipulate your fellow man which is why you suck as a Russian troll. I expect as you pointed out that the Russian government keeps its best convincers for the domestic market and leaves the dregs for the foreign ones which explains why you are here.

Your and your countrymen stance and actions on an an issue that is of supreme importance to me makes it impossible for me to see you as anything but a foe now. When Putin invaded it it changed everything but you are only realising it now the consequences of that act.

Too many fail to understand how the media works in the USA.
Almost all of the MSM are revenue driven. They have to broadcast/write the news that people who subscribe/pay for the info want to read. If they fail to do this, then they lose their source of revenue, can’t pay their people and bills and perhaps go out of business.
They also have to please the advertisers or they will not buy ads, which again kills incoming revenue.
What if the government gave each media org a yearly stipend? Would that bring us unbiased news?
Of course, the answer is no because the media orgs would be beholden to the government that pays their bills.

Sadly, as long as revenue needs to be brought in to pay the bills and salaries, we will never gain an unbiased media. This is reality.

Revenue driven doesn’t explain the meddling in the 2020 election, against Trump. Trump supposedly a big revenue booster for big media. Why would they want to remove their golden goose?

The election was corrupt. Meddling by Google, Facebook, Twitter. Mainstream media. Zuckerbucks used to manipulate election process in swing states. Illegal ballot trafficking. Unconstitutional changing of election rules in certain key states. The truth has slowly been coming out.
There was a 4 year coup against Trump, culminating the the 2020 election that they were not going to let him win.

As Caitlin Johnstone wrote: “I have a hard time imagining that the richest man in the world would actually do anything to protect free speech, but the horror with which imperial narrative managers are reacting to the faintest hint of that possibility is very revealing.”

Mish – seems everyone, including you these days, wants to tell people how to think. This blog was a lot more readable when it focused on economics and the market. Does the political opinion option result in more hits?

Of course it does. It started when it was acquired thestreet.com. Then went back to being ‘independent’ but in that that time I’m sure election season and the like got him a bunch of hits. In his defense, economics and the market have become unhinged because there has been no recession or depression. A decade ago it was all about deflation. What happen ?

Yes. So was I. Remember this blog went through a period where it was part of thestreet.com and then I think Mish did not like the terms of service and exited that agreement. Regardless, Mish needs hits and advertising to keep it all going. Just like any other business.

Economics is tied to politics and the state of the world. An integrated approach is required. There are thousands of blogs that focus on specific elements of the market or economics if that is all you are looking for.

MSNBC’s primary focus is on USA politics, voting, BLM, CRT and in off hours, their Dateline murder stories. That should tell everyone all they need to know.
I am enjoying watching CNN more since Zucker was fired and with the Ukraine invasion, has returned to its roots of in-the-field global reporting. I hope they keep it up once Ukraine is resolved.

It’s too late for CNN. Its reputation is so shot that they cannot get it back unless they fire everybody and start over. I was wondering if Musk could buy CNN. It would be very cheap since no one else wants it but it is the old legacy media and probably should die a slow, painful death. It will go they way of bell-bottoms.

CNN is going back to its boring roots under Turner finally since Zucker got canned. If not for the war, I think they would have proceeded faster. Also I think many of these platforms will go to subscriber only model while the cable CNN will turn into boring news which no one wants but is actual news. News is boring and should be and very few people are actually interested in it. These networks lost their way when they tried to compete for viewers and changed who they fundamentally are after Fox came along.

Mainstream news is a dying medium ever since they decided to get people to push the red button all the time to get likes and all that. What it eventually did is cause them to lose credibility with their histonics. Watching these stations these days is like living in an abusive relationship full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. I prefer boring news if it is accurate to hysterical news any day. They are all worthless Fox, Cnn included. Their articles are getting shorter and shorter with more and more spelling and syntax errors. They are run by bumbasses and the underlings are dumbasses also. Let them die.

Has anyone considered Elon might be a friend of the Biden administration? For example, Musk might use Twitter to “recommend” that the Biden handlers, take immediate action to eliminate all student debt with no quid pro consideration in play. “We are not trying to buy votes this November.” What a magnanimous gesture, Musk would opine, benefiting a demographic group unimpressed at the moment with “the big guy.” And Musk could also tease, there are still many more goodies yet to be provided by President Joe (before November). Yes, Elon could be a positive force for the administration. But few in the legacy media see this half-full glass scenario.

MSNBC is the mirror image of Fox News. Subtract one from the other, and you get Reuters/

March 1 “Among the cable networks, Fox News dominated prime time with an average total audience of 2.634 million viewers, representing an increase of 6% from the same period one year ago. MSNBC was second with 1.194 million viewers (down 46% year-over-year.” Zardoz … MSNBC would love to be the mirror image of Fox, but for now they will have to settle for 43% mirror image.

My mind is frying. I can’t quite get a picture of what you have in mind.
What I do have, just quick thinking, is MSNBC being a sine wave of amplitude 2, zeroed at a “liberal” 1. And Fox a sine wave of amplitude 2 zeroed at “conservative” -1. With that model, you gotta add, not subtract, MSNBC to Fox. Otherwise, things get weird. And, for “Reuters” to be at its highest swinging ‘tween left and right, MSNBC and Fox want to be 90 degrees out of phase?
OK, if MSNBC and Fox both want to spin the same story, then you’d expect they’d be 180 out of phase. If they are playing completely different click-bait stories, then you’d expect their sum to be kinda noisy. Does that describe the real Reuters?
Jeez. This all seems appropriately silly. But fun.
