New York Officials Kill Peanut the Squirrel to Save it From Exploitation

NY officials kill Peanut the squirrel and Fred the racoon to save them. No, this isn’t satire.

I am having trouble embedding videos but I will try.

“The owner of Peanut the squirrel explains how New York officials raided his house, took Peanut and his raccoon, and k*lled them. 7-year-old Peanut and Fred the raccoon were k*lled after anonymous complaints.”

If the line above looks like a link, the embed failed. If so please click here for the lead story on Peanuts.

New York official signed off on search warrant, held the homeowners for 5 hours, asked for immigration status, then seized a squirrel and a racoon and killed them.

In this case, the X embed failed up front. Please click here for a message from the pet owners: https://twitter.com/ImMeme0/status/1852814964907544964

Hat Tip @JMRothberg for the lead image.

Exploitation Revealed

“Mark Longo has just revealed that the New York Department of Environmental Conservation euthanized his cherished pet squirrel, Peanut. This innocent creature was taken from him, where he had lovingly raised it since it was a baby, after its mother got hit by a car. Mark used the squirrel’s viral popularity to raise funds for animal sanctuaries. Imagine, without any legal basis like a search warrant, the government barged into his home, stole Peanut, and in just 48 hours, ended the life of this harmless, beloved pet.”

The above link and another excellent video by @stillgray

Peanuts Had 1 Million Followers on TikTok

If that’s not cruel an unusual, what is?

Carole Mac has Another Excellent Video on Peanuts.

Please play that one too.

And here’s one more from The Redheaded Libertarian.

Finally, one more from the Pet Owner. That’s a very emotional video. A rabies test needed for a squirrel who has not been outside in 7 years. Yeah right.

They should’ve rehomed the squirrel and raccoon to a home in a free country. I’ve been to raccoon cafes, meerkat cafes and joints with other animals where people could have fun with the animals. Fred would’ve fit right in as he was fully domesticated.

If Peanut the Squirrel had crossed at a NY border crossing. Peanut could have claimed indigenous personal status.
Receive free housing, healthcare, and financial support.
Would also have been released into America. With a trial date around 2033.
Also claiming to identify as a Furry.

Do we really need a department of government efficiency? Seems to me the government got done exactly what it’s supposed to do in a very expeditious manner – no waste, no fuss and not allowing anything to impeded its objective. If all government is this efficient, we have no reason to be concerned. /sarc

It’s illegal to keep a squirrel as a pet in many states, including NY. Officials received a complaint, and were required to investigate. Normally, the squirrel would be confiscated and released into the wild, but during the investigation it bit one of the handlers. If an animal with no history of vaccination bites someone protocol is for the animal to be euthanized to test for rabies, as it is almost always fatal in humans once symptoms appear. There are no accurate rabies test on live animals, and this can only be done by examining a cross section of brain tissue.

Considering it was an indoor critter for 7 years, one would think the courteous thing to do would be give a 10 grace period for signs of said disease to show itself, as that is the incubation period for rabies. No, someone was out for blood and the nip was an excuse to wreck this guy.

I don’t work in animal control, but I do work in healthcare. Even “indoor pets” can get rabies, which is why it is essential to get any pets you may have vaccinated. Rabies is no joke and is almost always fatal. By the time you waited 10 days for symptoms in the animal, the officer would also have passed the point of successful treatment.

When my father was a cattle farmer, which he hasn’t done since before I was born, he got saliva from a rabid cow on his hands. He received a series of shots in the stomach and he was good. Over a half century later, you’re telling me American medical science has regressed and that can no longer be done?

Oracle
Oracle

If the cow was clearly exhibiting rabid symptoms, then yes, he had to get shots, and a brain tissue scan is not necessary for confirmation. However, if it not known for certain if an animal is rabid, then health officials prefer to do a brain scan tissue sample first, as giving a serious of rabies shots to someone that doesn’t actually need them, is not without the risk of complications.

And: Exactly the same will be the result of voting for Trump.

So 3 Karens and one soy boy liberal were so upset about a squirrel that they came in, held the home owner for 5 hours, ransacked their house, harassed his wife over her immigration status (I guess its a sanctuary state only for those who don’t own squirrels) only to seize the squirrel and racoon and kill them both…to save them. Well I don’t know if there is a stronger argument to keep voting in these Democrats…

WTF is the matter with these idiots?

Simple: its the consequence of too many bureaucrats with not enough to do. They turn petty & abusive. Happens all the time. A textbook incident in 2011 was the Tunisian lemonade seller harassed by a bored cop for not having a license, at a time when food prices rocketed above what the seller could earn. Despairing of starvation, the lemonade seller burned himself alive, setting off the Arab Spring at the same time.

Thus the formula reads, “Today Peanuts, tomorrow ______!”

When we have won the anti-rodent fight, we will move to attack anti-roachism which is endemic in our society. Our developed societies should take their wisdom and do the same.

If there’s one thing law enforcement will not stand for it’s the non-compliant, whether they are suicidal teen-agers, quadriplegic seniors in a wheel chair, or confused mental patients. The best solution to deal with the non-compliant is to shoot them.

Animals are notoriously non-compliant, just look at their attitude to filling in the right forms or to national borders.

Classic out-of-control bureaucracy behavior. They get an order to check something out and the team sent out to check enters into a power trip because there is no one to tell them they are going too far. Now we will probably have people whose lives will be ruined because not one of them stopped to think of the consequences if found out.

Normally these teams do an important job in investigating animal mistreatment and especially finding rabid animals and if you don’t think that is important then you have never seen someone die of rabies which is incurable. Nevertheless, this team resembled a military operation and it is clear they were searching for anything that could be used as evidence against Peanut’s owner. I wonder if they were using this raid as a training exercise for new members and instead of treating it as low risk decided to treat it as if they had to handle an armed owner of twenty pitbulls. Anyway, the harm is done. Lives will be ruined over a squirrel and a racoon.

From the Post, it appears that Peanut resisted arrest and bit one or two of the DEC clowns. He went down fighting. This is probably why they murdered him. Yes, murder because it was with willful intent. To test for rabies, they could have had a vet draw blood. But Peanut was deemed a menace to society, and most probably in Kathy Hochul and Mike Bloomberg’s sandbox, a threat to our democracy. Wait … whose democracy?

Is it legal to own a rescued squirrel or racoon and are there any requirements to have a licence or registration? Because if there isn’t then the government destroyed private property. This varies by state, but it is not legal to own a squirrel in most states, both red and blue. In some states (DE, IN, ME, MI, MI, RI, SC) you are required to have a permit. A few states allow ownership with specific conditions such as a particular breed, or if they were never in the wild (NJ, SD, MA, MO). The legality in FL has never been determined.

“…WTF is the matter with these idiots?…”

This is what happens when people stop being human beings and become robots that follow rule xyz to the letter. I’m guessing there’s some state law or local ordinance that forbids the keeping of wild animals as pets. Regardless, the situation should have been handled differently. At the very least they could have found the animals a home at an animal sanctuary or zoo instead of killing them. There are plenty of sanctuaries that would have taken them in.

And don’t forget, some asshole (probably a neighbor or jealous dick head tik tok viewer) complained instead of talking to the owner 1st. I’ve come to the conclusion that many people are just miserable wretches and misery loves company. I don’t reveal much if anything to neighbors. The only people I trust are my family members and even then I’m very selective on what I reveal to whom.

This is just a sad story.
