The New York Times reports Trump Plans Executive Order to Allow Detaining Families Together Indefinitely.
President Trump is preparing to issue an executive order as soon as Wednesday that ends the separation of families at the border by indefinitely detaining parents and children together, according to a person familiar with the White House plans.
Mr. Trump’s executive order would seek to get around an existing 1997 consent decree, known as the Flores settlement, that prohibits the federal government from keeping children in immigration detention — even if they are with their parents — for more than 20 days.
Mr. Trump has for weeks refused to simply end his government’s “zero tolerance” policy that led to the separation of more than 2,300 children from their parents, saying that the alternative would be to fling open the nation’s borders and allow immigrants who cross the border illegally to remain in the country.
“We’re going to be signing an executive order in a little while,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday. “We’ve got to be keeping families together.”
The order would keep families together, though it is unclear how Mr. Trump intends to claim the legal authority to violate what have been legal constraints on the proper treatment of children in government custody, which prevented former President Barack Obama from detaining families together during a similar flood of illegal immigration two years ago.
Public Relations Disaster
Obama did not enforce the law. Trump plans to issue an executive order instead.

When 15 Republican Senators asked Trump to stop, he had to.
Now Congress can take up the issue. But the fundamental problem remains: Open borders and free handouts are incompatible.

My problem is not with Mish but the media and Democratic Party operatives that lie daily. This entire story seems to have more lies than Pinocchio. Those photos were either from Obama era centers or were not from actual separations yet the meme was Trump is doing this when it had nothing to do with Trump policy but US policy. Now the asses are jumping on him for trying to give them what they wanted (even though he does not have the power legally). This dude just cannot win.
Obviously, you cannot read. Most of my rants about Trump are about trade. I have been making the same points for over a decade. I don’t even like CNN. But no one is wrong all the time. I do not even recall using CNN. But perhaps I did. So what?
And by the way, where did I ever say we should not stop illegal crossings? Please cite a reference. Since you can’t, learn how to read.

Her husband says she paid a human trafficker $6,000 to smuggle her and her youngest daughter (she has two other children) to the United States because she “had always wanted to experience the American dream.” Life in Honduras was “fine but not great,” the husband told The Daily Mail, adding “It’s hard to find a good job here and that’s why many people choose to leave.”

The PARENTS of young children are putting their children at risk by ILLEGALLY crossing the border. And YES we should shut the border to ILLEGAL crossings. Democrats refuse to legislate, as Schumer said. The Democratic Party supports illegal immigration. They don’t care about the children, except as tools to use as means to their end.
Obama put children in cages and the Democratic party didn’t care.

I love the irony and crocodile tears of everyone blaming Trump when this has been happening for decades (and I do not even like Trump). I am just getting tired of everything being his fault. Besides Congressional inaction, where were the past two presidents? Why all of a sudden did this become a media frenzy when it was much worse (in numbers) under Obama? There are real issues like trade and the media is castigating him for something that was not his issue. I am happy he finally is willing to do something though to shut up the whining. Those members of Congress are a pack of hypocrites.
And for the voters, it’s whatever they have been told to do, no matter how silly and self destructive. Instead of something so simple as simply voting for a libertarian party that has been on the ballot in almost every election since who knows when….
Of course. If you happen to be a position to choose not to enforce some arbitrary “law” that requires you to kill all US children just for fun and games, you should do so. Rather than killing the kids, just because some illiterate halfwit have been taught to chant “It’s the Law.”
As the world gets poorer or destroyed by UN bombs, expect more people to gravitate to the few remaining countries showing some semblance of prosperity. We can naturally expect the governments of those countries to lose more of their cosmetic humanitarianism. To know the truth about illegal immigration is to know the truth about the human species. For every genuine refugee there are a dozen parents who are prepared to exploit their children, to some degree, for a better life. It’s all perfectly normal and we shouldn’t prejudge. But clearly you can’t empty the poorer countries of the world into the wealthiest. Something has to give.
Instead of focusing on the symptoms, we should be looking at the root causes of the disaster we call modern civilization. A global culture that promotes overpopulation, lauds corporate profiteering, neglects economic stability and exploits the environment without any thought for tomorrow, can’t be cured with bleeding heart humanitarian whining.

How many kids are harmed by human trafficking even before they make it to the border (e.g., dying in the desert, sold as sex slaves, kidnapped)? If kids become a 50-pound visa that you can stuff in duffle bag (of course with air holes, because you don’t want your visa to expire), then expect more and more human trafficking of kids and the concomitant abuses.
However, it looks like Trump is contemplating a 3rd option, which is breaking the law by housing kids with their accompanied adults within immigration detention for more than 20 days. Will there be another outcry?
It seems like one truism about immigration enforcement is that any tactic that could be used to reduce illegal immigration will be widely condemned as immoral or illegal.
Also, 5 out of 6 kids are unaccompanied. So, they were separated before they even crossed the border.
“Nielsen … pointed out the 10,000 of the 12,000 children in care of Health and Human Services who she said had arrived to the US as unaccompanied minors.
“That’s when they were separated,” Nielsen said.
“Ten-thousand of those currently in custody were sent by their parents with strangers to undertake a completely dangerous and deadly travel alone,” Nielsen said. “We now care for them, we have high standards, we give them meals, we give them education, we give them medical care. There is videos, there’s TVs.”

It may last a little while longer. However, just like the business cycle, climate cycles, and everything in the universe, no trend continues in the same direction forever. Politicians must sell the idea that they are God, and can control nature, but they are powerless. Ironically, if God created the universe, he made everything inter-connected and powered by energy, which has a wavelength. Whether it’s a heartbeat, sound, light, solar activity, earthquakes, volcanos, and anything with energy, all things have a cycle. This cycle of govt largess/socialism will officially come to an end with the popping of the govt debt bubble, which will begin in the next couple of years, as the dollar and rates rise.

Fine. Can we now get back onto both party’s real agendas here? For Democrats, it’s the next “final amnesty,” this one for 12 million future Democrat voters after the last “final amnesty” signed by Reagan in 1986 for 4 million. For Republican politicians, it’s cheap labor to keep those campaign contributions coming. For the country, it’s standby to be screwed…again.
What percentage of the kids are unaccompanied or accompanied by a non-family member? Of course, no one will answer this question, because the majority of children seperated from their family were voluntarily done so by THEIR family. Most are teenagers, which may also explain why the parents shipped them off to Club Med. Just like with trade, the debt reset, and almost everything in life, without sacrifice there will be no improvement, especially in a world run by career politicians that will NEVER act proactively.
Not really public outcry — more like a media Cry-In. Most of us public are pretty cautious about the people seeking to enter the US illegally. Good thing is that this media storm in a teacup may dissuade some foreign citizens from attempting to sneak into the US. That is a Win!
Big question is — what is the next overblown story the Deep State/Democrats are going to use to distract from the growing evidence of treasonous behavior by Mrs Clinton, the FBI, and Obama’s “Justice” Department? And how many pundits will the Big Government types fool the next time?
So you are in full support of a president picking and choosing which laws to enforce and which laws to ignore. And you don’t even see your own folloy and destructive consequences of what you advocate.

Put yourself in the place of the average Republican Congressman. You introduce a bill that would stop the separation of parents and children. Suddenly, half of your voters think your anti-Trump and you’re voted out in November.
The best thing to do is just keep your head down and mouth shut and hope it all blows over before November. And I think that’s what Trump is doing. He recognizes he took it too far. If he doesn’t fix this quickly, Democrats are going to eat Republicans for breakfast come November. So he is going to make an executive order that “reverses Obama’s evil policies” or something similar. Politics.
I found myself wondering how China, North Korea, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria would have handled this situation. I suspect it would not have been very different. Question: Are these the countries we want to look to for guidance in how to treat human beings? I’m not saying let them in. I’m saying treat them humanely. Second question: Does this treatment of people trying to sneak into our country do anything but make enemies of them? Do we really need any more enemies?
Every Dem political ad in October will be a black screen with 30 seconds of the audio of the crying child. The Dems will win every race. It’s as if the Trump Administration is working for the Democratic party. I joked the other night that Trump should run in 2020 as a Democrat just to fuck with everybody.
These problems aren’t tractable anymore because there are more people coming across the border than the system can handle. More law enforcement is necessary.. Maybe if people were deterred from breaking the law they wouldn’t.
He’s making the right decision.
