Trump Addresses the Nation, Blames Biden, Incessantly Praises Himself

Here’s a replay of Trump’s address to the nation.

The video starts at about the 9 minute mark.

Dark Tones

CNN notes Biden looms over Trump’s address

“Eleven months ago, I inherited a mess. And I’m fixing it,” Trump began.

Trump ticked off a laundry list of Biden-era grievances, describing “open” borders, transgender men playing in women’s sports, crime, the “worst trade deals ever made,” and a “sick and corrupt” federal government.

The president cast a dark tone in describing his time away from the White House: “For the last four years, the United States was ruled by politicians who fought only for insiders, illegal aliens, career criminals, corporate lobbyists, prisoners, terrorists and above all foreign nations which took advantage of us at levels never seen before.”

Upon Trump’s return to the White House, however, he said, “In a few short months, we went from worst to best.”

White House advisers and Republicans have urged the president to express more empathy with Americans who are struggling financially and skeptical that the administration is doing much to improve their situation.

But Trump largely offered only a triumphant message, insisting that the economy had already been rescued and would only improve from here.

“Our country was ready to fail, totally fail,” he said. “Now we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world,”

Trump Sounds Defensive Like Biden

Trump moaned about Biden but the result was he sounded like Biden, just more forceful.

Instead of “aw shucks come on, things are improving” it was “I am the greatest.”

I suspect such arrogance will further hurt him at the polls.

Meanwhile, a nasty brew is simmering over job losses, inflation, health care, and housing. Trump delivered zero empathy and zero sympathy on all of those.

Trump is a narsasist who is completely out of touch with reality. He is beyond inappropriate and since his administration has taken office, the economy has suffered and continues to decline. Worse, he does not seem to understand the concept of separation between church and state. In addition, the government cannot decide what constitutes religion. I am quite disappointed and frightened by their right wing Christian agenda. If the American public does recognize what’s at stake, shame on them for not doing their research and blindly following!

This man is a shameless gaslighter! The reality is that Biden and the Fed had to deal with a short burst of hyperinflation that plagued the entire world following the COVID shutdowns and the seizing up of supply chains. The Fed during 2022-2023 oversaw the reduction of inflation from a peak annualized rate of around 10% down to 2.40% without causing a recession, the historically elusive soft-landing. On the growth side, Biden oversaw strong above-trend GDP growth, historically low unemployment, and powerful job creation averaging over 200,000 jobs per month. For 2025, we have seen the disinflation trend that persisted from mid-2022 to mid-2024 stall out, we have seen job creation crater to under 100,000 per month, and the unemployment rate rise to 4.6% from the Biden era low of 3.5%.

I know what would not have happened. We would not have had outdated, proven detrimental protectionist tariffs imposed on us and on the rest of the world. We would not be committing war crimes in the Caribbean. We would not be trying to strong-arm Ukraine to surrender to Russia to placate Putin. We would not have published a Security Policy that is void of values, tells our Western Hemisphere neighbors that we will use our superior power to dominate the hemisphere, and they either fall in line or we will punish them, and insults our European allies, along with pledging to interfere in their internal politics to bolster the far-right opposition political movements. We also would not be terrorizing our immigrant and naturalized citizen populations.

I just don’t think it’s possible for the West to get good candidates elected anymore. People talk about the Deep State and there seems to be some validity to it, I believe the candidates “they” want in power get in power, they have the MSM in their pockets and use them to attack and smear anyone they don’t want elected and give full support to those they do want. This goes for all of the Western Nations. They want figureheads, puppets that they put into power but they still control the government from the shadows. Kamala Harris would have been their perfect puppet, I read something the other day about her getting ready to run again…really? She is the poster child for an empty vessel candidate.

Trump seems to be the one outlier who keeps sneaking in and disrupting their plans, the problem is he’s too much Trump. He does some really good things like securing the borders, getting rid of the DEI and Woke disease that was infiltrating every corner of government and society etc. Unfortunately he also acts like a petulant child, calls people who question or criticizes him, “Stupid” or “losers”, seems to impulsively do things without any sort of deep thought or consultation, does he listen to or take anyones advice?. I don’t doubt that he loves America but he also just as much loves “Trump”, his ego is by far his biggest flaw and it’s always on display.

Nah. There is a Deep State, but it is a tool, not an instigator. The power in the country is held by giant corporations and their ability to concentrate wealth and use that concentrated wealth to control elections. Those giant corporations also own and fund the media. So they naturally need a boogey-man so that people won’t blame problems on them. That boogey-man is the “deep state” (for conservatives). It gets people to fight against a perceived enemy, instead of the real enemy: them. But, corporate interests aren’t 100% aligned. Microsoft’s wants and needs are different from Exxon’s and both of their is different from Lockheed’s and United Health’s. But they are aligned in critical areas: low corporate tax rates and high deficits, war mongering (making the world safe for “American interests”, theirs not yours), monopolistic control of the economy and pricing power, and deregulation of the financial system. The election of Donald Trump is a reaction. People know something is wrong and Trump doesn’t seem to be a part of that something, and he really isn’t. But he himself is too dumb and narcissistic to understand who to fight. So he flails away against Mexican rapists and the 5 trans kids in girls sports. Kamala Harris actually is smart enough to know exactly how the system works. She just wants to profit from it instead of fixing it.

So! What is the bottom line (to date)? There are so many implications to Trump’s EO’s yet to be determined. But, if we consider what Trump did inherit and what he has (accomplished?), vs what he promoted in his campaign and how he may not (the economy) achieved, what do we have – so far?

Regarding his global foreign policy directions….is it not too soon to tell? For sure, any change there will first be negative by all those who favor status quo.

Regarding border, social and crime policies…..are we saying he is failing?

Regarding debt and cost levels of goods, what could he really do…without offending the free market?

Regarding monetary policy, the fed is stuck with implications and thus he is stuck with implications and we are all stuck with implications…all of which are from the past. What can he really do? (not that I endorse lower interest rates, myself, but there are implications to higher rates, (implications) that we and Trump are all stuck with. Is there a non-implication solution to bubble abuses?

Who among us really thought during Trump’s campaign that he could “fix” all this? Sure he puffs it all up but who among us ever believed he could “fix” all this as we voted for him over Harris?

What are the right expectations for all this? Trump is his own worst enemy (big mouth), yes but so may we be our own enemies in our expectations and daily nit picking of Trump’s puffery.

Would any of us now change our vote if we could?

The “lesser of two evils” trope is laughable. Donald Trump’s first term ended in disgrace, and history will not forget his two impeachments. Personally, his life is paved with deceit, failure, and betrayal. He is a serial liar and has no core principles or morals to guide his decisions. His decisions are purely transactional, and these transactions are carried out with an “ends justify the means” mentality. He is the most “un-American” President that we have seen since Andrew Jackson.

Only way to get prices to pre-Biden prices is to have widescale deflation for food, energy, housing, transportation and healthcare.

When was the last time did we had deflation ? Maybe for a couple of months during the “Great Recession” and for a few years during the Great Depression.

At least disinflation is real, with annual inflation between 2 and 3% now versus +8% during the Biden administration.

if someone expect any empathy or sympathy from narcissist then he will be seriously disappointed. They don’t feel such emotions, it is completely alien to them.
Plus why would Trump not sound that much triumphant. He is absolutely enjoying every moment of this presidency. Whole world bow to him, everybody afraid to speak against, kissing his ass form every corner, life is just beautiful in White House.
Only small concern he has now are those annoying midterms. What to do to get rid of it, hmm. That is only concern on his mind now, everything else is just great. So he is bragging.
For sure he is not interested in regular folks, that is given.

Well, well well. Seems it’s not just about the ‘narco-terrorists’ after all.

They stole our oil, according to Trump. Who exactly do the Venezuelans think they are? Their oil belongs to us and we need to get it back. Looks like we have no choice but to start bombing Venezuela to the stone age.

Oil prices are currently at 4 year lows and will probably go up; maybe way up. But at least American oil producers will benefit from higher prices.

Same old garbage out of Trump.

Trump complained about Biden’s horrible trade deals.

Yet Biden didn’t sign any trade deals.

The only trade deals that existed during Biden’s tenure, were the ones that Trump signed.

Just like Trump complained about Biden appointing Powell as Fed Chair. Of course, Trump was the one who appointed Powell.

Then there are Trump’s claims that he has lowered Drug prices by 1500%; raised $18 trillion in tariffs; eliminated inflation; and so on.

Too funny!

Just like “Putin can’t hold out much longer,” hoping Orangeman is close to done is just hopium. He’ll go on forever, just like Vlad. There will be no end to the horror. Sorry but that’s just how it is.

The speech was basically one long stream of falsehoods. Starting off with inflation… in Biden’s last month in office: about 3% (and certainly not “the highest in 48 years”). Inflation now: about 3%.

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I noticed on a pro-Trump website (from which I am banned) that most of the commenters were deeply disgusted by his tweet (“truth”) about Rob & Michelle Reiner.

They knew he was low-class when they voted for him.

I also couldn’t bear to watch it. I expected him to say the bombing of Venezuela has started. If he didn’t, I guess that’s something.

“Meanwhile, a nasty brew is simmering over job losses, inflation, health care, and housing. Trump delivered zero empathy and zero sympathy on all of those.”

I didn’t watch the clown show because I assumed it would be standard egotist operating procedure but delivering zero empathy and sympathy was exactly what his mostly toxic boomer and crypto-bros wanted out of this president.

It was all fun and games until health insurance and inflation skyrocketed and the economy tanks leaving boomers and crypto-bros broke.

It only gets worse from here for the next 3+ years and everyone should consider themselves warned and advised.

Got exit strategy?

I didn’t watch it either. I can’t stand his face or his voice or his aggrandisement of himself…..they all grate on me and make me irritable…I’d rather watch porn. Trump even worse than porn.

At least with porn, so I’m told, there’s a ‘happy ending’

Whenever a president would start talking on the idiot box, I’d change channels. I’ve been doing this since Obama’s first term. I don’t even know how those idiots sound like. Going through Dubia was enough.
