Trump Issues Executive Order Banning Chinese 5G Leader Huawei’s Technology

President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday afternoon effectively banning the use Huawei’s 5G technology just days after the US and China failed to reach a deal to end the trade war between the two countries.

Trump’s based the decision on national security. Curiously, it was not a matter of national security before the trade talks collapsed.

Please consider Trump Telecom Ban Takes Aim at China, Huawei.

President Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that allows the U.S. to ban telecommunications network gear and services from foreign adversaries, in a measure widely believed to be aimed at China and telecom companies including Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp.

A White House press release describing the order doesn’t list any countries or companies by name. Instead, it gives the Commerce Secretary the authority to ban the import of gear or services from companies that have close ties to foreign governments and could use their equipment to monitor or disrupt U.S. telecommunications or other infrastructure.

Trump Touts 5G and 6G Technology ASAP

Flashback February 21, 2019: Trump Tweets Promote US 5G “Even 6G” ASAP

Another Day, Another Lie

Fancy that, another bald-faced lie.

Huawei was only a tiny presence in the US markets, used only by smaller local operations that will now have to replace the gear.

Trump will soon demand the UK and EU to drop the technology.

What’s It Really About?

  1. The US is behind in technology.
  2. Trump is irritated at China.
  3. The NSA cannot demand China put in hooks and backdoors but it can require US companies to do that and not mention it.
  4. Trump is an exceptionally piss poor negotiator who has to rely on bullying, threats, and coercion to get his way.

The end result of point number four is Trump has not closed a single deal while seriously damaging relationships with allies.

EU Pokes Trump

Trump is already irritated as note in February: EU Pokes Trump Again, This Time Over Huawei’ s 5G Technology.

As noted on Feb 21: “Germany and the UK gave Trump another polite go to hell message by refusing his demand on Huawei.”

I hope they remain firm. The only way to stop aggressive bullies is to stand up to them. The message needs to remain “Dear president Trump, Go to Hell”.

Of course, diplomatically it will say “Dear President Trump, we will make our own decisions, thank you.”

Mish, do you seriously think that we should let China build our communications network?

A country that is continuously carrying out cyber intrusions against our companies,

A country that is known for mass surveillance of its citizens and this company builds those systems.

A country that has set in place policies that are meant to undermine our leadership in technology and will stop at nothing until they get what we have – even if it’s breaking our laws.

A company that has already stolen our Diamond glass technology (Akhan Glass), and Robot Arm Technology (T-Mobile), stole technology from Motorola (Engineer arrested at the airport with 1,000 thumbdrives and one way ticket to China taking proprietary tech to Huawei),

A company that stole technology from CISCO.

A communist country where no companies can defy the orders of the govt – they must obey.

A country that has the potential of becoming an enemy.

Is this the kind of country you would want to build your communications network. Seriously?

Trump is right on this one. China can’t build our network. It’s a security risk

Time to put America’s STEM workers back to work creating and inventing, instead of sitting on the couches, their job applications completely ignored by employers hooked on using foreign nationals on H-1B visas.

Look at the disaster at Boeing that was clearly caused by disrespect of the STEM profession for proof of how much of a failure US STEM policy has been.

I think the government should subsidize having more MBA’s to boss the engineers around.

Bad choice. Should have invited Huawei, and shake them down for all their 5G, like they do back home. Not the art of the deal.

Sadly, the only things the US are good at is failed foreign & domestic policy, lying to its people, obesity, being able to breathe with our heads up our collective asses, making up excuses to invade other countries, killing wholesale. We are not good at regime change anymore. MAGA is not possible because we were never great, well, great liars & hypocrites. Just MAG. Please add to the list as you see fit.

America, pre progressivism, was the greatest country to have ever seen the light of day. Of course, once progressives rose to power, that was the end of that.

So we should go back to pre-1900 to be great again? It was progressivism that was the engine for the US becoming the world’s premier power.

“So we should go back to pre-1900 to be great again?”

Yes. 1870. Post emancipation, pre progressivism.

No fed, no income taxes, no mindless prohibitions, no 3 letter agencies etc. IOW no overgrown, centralized terror state robbing those in America, in order to bomb those outside. All solely for their own vanity and self aggrandizement.

All progressivism has ever done, is burn through and destroy the capital built up during America’s first century, when it still existed as a somewhat free country. First slowly. Slowly enough to fool the economically illiterate and childishly uncritical. But then faster. And faster. And faster, with each sitting President and ruling Congress. Just as in the Soviet Union, which progressives, de facto, champion emulating as closely as possible; stupidly believing doing the same thing over and over will somehow lead to a diiiifereeeeent result thiiiiis tiiiiime.

I’m on board with that but as they say…careful what you wish. I don’t think if we had the power to revert back to the mid 19th century, you or most anyone would like an agrarian, simple life. If that is what you truly wish then move to nowhere Mongolia and be a yak herder or something similar.
