Trump Seeks a Big Military Parade Coinciding with His 79th Birthday

Trump was impressed with the Bastille parade in France and wants a bigger one.

Trump Wants a Big Military Parade

The Associated Press notes Army Plans for a Potential Parade on Trump’s Birthday with 6,600 Soldiers.

Detailed Army plans for a potential military parade on President Donald Trump’s birthday in June call for more than 6,600 soldiers, at least 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven bands and possibly a couple thousand civilians, The Associated Press has learned.

The planning documents, obtained by the AP, are dated April 29 and 30 and have not been publicly released.

The Army anniversary just happens to coincide with Trump’s 79th birthday on June 14.

While the slides do not include any price estimates, it would likely cost tens of millions of dollars to put on a parade of that size. Costs would include the movement of military vehicles, equipment, aircraft and troops from across the country to Washington and the need to feed and house thousands of service members.

High costs halted Trump’s push for a parade in his first term, and the tanks and other heavy vehicles that are part of the Army’s latest plans have raised concerns from city officials about damage to roads.

Asked about plans for a parade, Army spokesman Steve Warren said Thursday that no final decisions have been made.

In a Truth Social post Thursday night that did not mention the June 14 plans, Trump wrote, “We are going to start celebrating our victories again!” He vowed to rename May 8, now known as Victory in Europe Day, as “Victory Day for World War II,” and to change November 11, Veterans Day, to “Victory Day for World War I.”

The Army’s early festival plans did not include a parade, but officials confirmed last month that the Army had started discussions about adding one.

According to the plan, the parade would be classified as a national special security event, and that request has been submitted by the National Park Service and is under review.

Trump Has Long Wanted a Big Military Parade

In his first term, Trump proposed having a parade after seeing one in France on Bastille Day in 2017. Trump said that after watching the two-hour procession along the famed Champs-Elysees that he wanted an even grander one on Pennsylvania Avenue.

That plan was ultimately dumped due to the huge costs — with one estimate of a $92 million price tag — and other logistical issues. Among those were objections from city officials who said including tanks and other heavy armored vehicles would tear up the roads.

Trump said in a social media post in 2018 that he was canceling the event over the costs and accused local politicians of price gouging.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser acknowledged in April that the administration reached out to the city about holding a parade on June 14 that would stretch from Arlington, Virginia, where the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery are located, across the Potomac River and into Washington.

Bowser at the time said she didn’t know if the event was being “characterized as a military parade” but added that tanks rolling through the city’s streets “would not be good.”

“If military tanks were used, they should be accompanied with many millions of dollars to repair the roads,” she said.

In 2018, the Pentagon appeared to agree. A memo from the defense secretary’s staff said plans for the parade — at that time — would include only wheeled vehicles and no tanks to minimize damage to local infrastructure.

Who cares about costs. Bring in the tanks.

Trump Promises $1 trillion in Defense Spending for Next Year

On April 9, I noted Trump Promises $1 trillion in Defense Spending for Next Year

Even bigger budget deficits are now in store due to the first $1 trillion defense budget.

“We’re going to be approving a budget, and I’m proud to say, actually, the biggest one we’ve ever done for the military,” he said. “$1 trillion. Nobody has seen anything like it.

We are getting a very, very powerful military. We have things under order now.

It’s interesting to note that “We have things under order now,” before we even have a budget.

Well who cares about that?

Might I suggest we get more tanks to invade Canada, Mexico, and Greenland?

Maybe the Dems have learned that publicity, without meeting the demands of the American people, results in political loss. Maybe not. But somebody here, seems not to have learned that all ads, all the time, all noise of whatever kind, will pale unless the masses get pretty tangible results, in a fairly reasonable time. FDR had more time to get going, but we were in a huge Depression, (after 3 years of GOP at the top), unlike now . Now, we are coming from reasonable (if somewhat imperfect) prosperity this year. And we cannot be isolated as much as Russians and North Koreans can in a media propaganda silo.

Don’t see how this in anyway helps our military war fighting capability, unless it’s about conditioning the sheeple for war against AIPAC’s enemies. Lot of buzz coming out of swamp types regarding Iran. Hard not to notice that many of the people being moved around or out at DOD were NOT in favor of greater Middle East war involvement.

Just like the failing USSR’s military parades? North Korea’s military parades? This is the dimmest indicator of power in today’s world. Putin is not that stupid, though he uses similar tricks to rouse a nation stuck in a WW1 conflict on its own border against a weak foe, it can’t even win. Power is in tech you can’t see in a parade. It is in strong cyber protection. It is in economic vitality, indirectly reflected in ability to do a war from remote, as we did with Russia. It is not in some macho posing on a street. Laughable, silly. The Nazis had the flashiest public esprit but lost completely. Can you HEAR yourself, again categorically touting anything and everything, even the most random things, this man says or does?

no, we don’t reject everything Trump says or does. it’s just most of that is idiotic. And as for the few things i do agree with, i don’t bother to comment on those as much because in my view COMPETENCY SHOULD BE THE DEFAULT.

I expect the POTUS not to be a third grader who needs to be given a cookie for not not crapping the bed every morning. talk about low expectations. we aren’t going to be out there clapping because something Trump did wasn’t completely idiotic.

and what i do expect is for the POTUS to not literally be undermining the economy of the US.

Trump means the opposite of what he says.

He said he was looking for cuts in the military budget. Now he wants to increase it by $150 billion. That’s an 18% increase.

In January, Trump said he “loves” Medicare and Medicaid and “won’t touch them”. Now he’s touching them all over for $880 billion in cuts.

If people not on Medicare/Medicaid don’t think those cuts will affect them – get ready to pay higher premiums for reduced medical care access.

RonJ
RonJ

Medicare costs are far outstripping the amount of medicare payroll tax collections. RMD’s can affect medicare premiums if one has a large enough tax deferred nest egg.

Didn’t watch, but saw a link to a Tucker interview with Catherine Austin Fitts, which referenced an alleged $21 trillion missing dollars in government spending. Rumsfeld mentioned unaccounted Pentagon trillions just before 9/11.

Yes, that was an interesting spin on Pentagon math “cuts”, dtj. Medicare will not be “touched” but it is clear states will shoulder more of the bill after an insane expansion of the medicaid programs in recent years. Totally unsustainable.

so for the past month we’ve had Bessent and Trump publicly say literally that they want China to call. Trump said Xi should call him, that it wouldn’t be a sign of weakness and that he would be treated very respectfully. He said this several times and Bessent said it more.

How childish and also weak. You cant’ claim the other side calling you means they caved to your power when you’ve been publicly been begging them to call you.

That’s nation building. The US has failed miserably at that since forever.

Military wise we rolled over any Taliban we found in like 30 seconds. None dared face us, they simply hid in caves till we left.

If we were willing to ignore all the liberal bleeding hearts a home, the military could have gassed all the caves and anyone inside. Would have saved all the money involved in nation building but liberals wouldn’t allow it.

The cold war kept the boys away in Europe, Korea and the ME. It kept unemployment low. Eisenhower and Stalin divided the world. Russia occupied the biggest land mass in the world and from Tokyo to Berlin and we ruled the waves. Those were Russia and the US glorious days. No glory to the UK. Vietnam was a bloody smoke screen to cover LBJ blood trail and blackmails. Biden cut our losses in Afghanistan. We still have about 3 dozens bases in the east surrounding China and Iran and a few unsinkable aircraft carriers in the pacific. We can sink China’s fleet with some help from our friends.
