The Gulf of Mexico will be renamed the Gulf of America and Mount Denali, the highest mountain in North America, will once again be called Mount McKinley, he said.
- Two Different Outlooks: Trump painted a dark picture of the country he was inheriting, claiming it has been led by corrupt radicals and declaring the pillars of society broken. But he argued that he would turn it around and usher in a “golden age,” saying: “We stand on the verge of the four greatest years in American history.”
- Age: At 78, Trump is the oldest president to take the office, supplanting the mark set by his predecessor, Joe Biden, whose age became a focal point in the campaign, forcing the stunning turn of events that led to him being replaced on the ticket by Vice President Kamala Harris.

Donald Trump: Thank you. Thank you very much everybody. Well, thank you very, very much. Vice President Vance, Speaker Johnson, Senator Thune, Chief Justice Roberts, justices of the United States Supreme Court, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and my fellow citizens.
The Golden Age of America begins right now.
From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. During every single day of the Trump administration, I will very simply put America first. Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end. And our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free.
America will soon be greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before. Our country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency, as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina, been treated so badly. And other states who are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago.
Or more recently in Los Angeles, where we are watching fires still tragically burn from weeks ago without even a token of defense. They’re raging through the houses and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. They don’t have a home any longer. That’s interesting, but we can’t let this happen. Everyone is unable to do anything about it. That’s going to change.
We have a public health system that does not deliver in times of disaster, yet more money is spent on it than any country anywhere in the world. And we have an education system that teaches our children to be ashamed of themselves, in many cases to hate our country despite the love that we try so desperately to provide to them. All of this will change starting today, and it will change very quickly.
My recent election has a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal, and all of these many betrayals that have taken place, and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed, their freedom.
From this moment on, America’s decline is over. Our liberties and our nation’s glorious destiny will no longer be denied, and we will immediately restore the integrity, competency, and loyalty of America’s government. Over the past eight years, I have been tested and challenged more than any president in our 250 year history, and I’ve learned a lot along the way the journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one that I can tell you.
Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom, and indeed to take my life. Just a few months ago, in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. Today, I will sign a series of historic executive orders. With these actions, we will begin the complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense. It’s all about common sense.
First, I will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry will immediately be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came.
We will reinstate my remain in Mexico policy. I will end the practice of catch and release. And I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country.
Under the orders I signed today, we will also be designating the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. And by invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 I will direct our government to use the full and immense power of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate the presence of all foreign gangs and criminal networks bringing devastating crime to U.S. soil, including our cities and inner cities. As Commander in Chief, I have no higher responsibility than to defend our country from threats and invasions and that is exactly what I am going to do. We will do it at a level that nobody has ever seen before.
Next, I will direct all members of my cabinet to marshal the vast powers at their disposal to defeat what was record inflation and rapidly bring down costs and prices.
The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby, drill.
America will be a manufacturing nation once again, and we have something that no other manufacturing nation will ever have, the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth and we are going to use it, and they use it. We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again, right to the top and export American energy all over the world.
We will be a rich nation again and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it.
With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American autoworkers.
In other words, you’ll be able to buy the car of your choice. We will build automobiles in America again at a rate that nobody could have dreamt possible just a few years ago and thank you to the autoworkers of our nation for your inspiring vote of confidence. We did tremendously with their vote.
I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families. Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens.

To restore confidence and effectively is to our federal government, my administration will establish the brand new Department of Government Efficiency.
After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional federal efforts to restrict free expression, I will also sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America. Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponized to persecute political opponents. Something I know, something about. We will not allow that to happen. It will not happen again.
Under my leadership, we will restore a fair, equal, and impartial justice under the constitutional rule of law and we are going to bring law and order back to our cities.
This week I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life. This week, I will reinstate any service members who were unjustly expelled from our military for objecting to the COVID vaccine mandate, with full back pay. A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and we will restore the name of a great president, William McKinley to Mount McKinley, where it should be and where it belongs. President McKinley made our country very rich through tariffs and through talent. Renaming the Gulf of Mexico is ridiculous and a takeover of Panama would be an act of war.
In a second speech in the White House, Trump did not seem much interested in unity.
The best news of the day is Trump is looking at measured tariffs, not the sweeping actions he campaigned on.
I suspect the tariff moderation is due to influence from Scott Bessent, Trump’s Treasury Secretary nominee. Bessent will be confirmed easily.

My first, second, and third case is Trump will not bring in as much revenue with tariffs as he bragged.

Perhaps you should stock up on some gasoline, if you can. Trump is talking about banning imports of heavy oil from Venezuela, and putting a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada on Feb 1. Since we import 6.5 mbpd of heavy oil from those three countries, gas prices could rise sharply in February.

Here’s my reply in another thread. I wanted to repost here, since you may check in on this thread. Let me know your thoughts.
I’m not a crypto guy, but I am making sure that I’m buying SMR stocks as well as other energy sector stocks. I’m hopeful that NEP holds up with their earnings Thursday. It currently yields 20% which I’m sure will go down some, but even if it’s cut in half, then 10% is still fantastic. The price will fall, allowing me to add to my position at a lower NAV. I also found Energy Transfer with a near 6.5% dividend. Last, I found QYLD with is a technology ETF with a crazy high dividend of 12%+. It has all of the big tech stocks but is able to churn out a big dividends through covered calls.
I am not a fan of any SMR company. I looked into them many times over the last few years. At first, I was enthusiastic. Then I realized that they kept over promising and under delivering. The technology is currently not cost competitive and I don’t see how it will become practical anytime soon. Yes, it is suitable for special purposes where cost doesn’t matter, like subs, or very remote locations. But that’s it.
Regarding energy, and drill baby drill. US oil companies have been reducing rig counts for the last year. And they are still reducing rig counts because oil prices are too low to make them want to drill very much. I also suspect that they are reacting to Trump’s promise to drill, and waiting to see what incentives he may give them, in order to add a few more rigs back into the mix. Without incentives, or higher prices, I expect rig counts to keep dropping.
At this point, most oil companies are content to maintain production and generate decent cash flows. Only some of that cash flow will go to drilling. Just enough to maintain production. The rest of it will go to debt reduction, share buybacks, and dividend increases.
Thanks for your thoughts. My SMR plays are long-term 5-10 years. I currently have 30 or shares of OKLO, SMR, NNE & then 1 ea of WAB, since it’s so expensive. I will add more of each as we see dips. I have a URA as well. All four of these companies should get the Lionshare of SMR money going forward here in the US. I think initially over the next 1-3 years, we’ll see primarily data center power agreements.
The main concern as you point out is the deployment cost. Time will tell if they can drive down the cost after they complete their initial deployment. It’s much more likely given the overall innovation that we’re seeing. I’m hopeful TerraPower will go public this year, and the biggy I’m waiting on is Helion Energy, the fusion company who’s signed an agreement to start providing MSFT power by 2028.
Fortunately, the damn has been broken for investments in nuclear. It’s long overdue.

It’s not because they “suspect” they have bird flu. It’s because they know they have bird flu. And the consequences of it spreading are far worse than culling.
Bird flu can spread beyond these chickens to other farms and wild bird populations. There are over 300 million egg-laying chickens in the US. Without culling, they are all at risk.
Bird flu can also spread to humans. There have been 61 humans infected since April 2024. Fortunately, there has been no human to human transmission yet. We don’t want another pandemic.
Culling is also humane. It puts the chickens out of their suffering, from the flu.
And as long as bird flu is within the US, other countries will refuse to import chicken, eggs etc from the US. So it hurts our trade balance.
The bird flu is spreading to humans and to more diverse animals regardless of the culling and will continue to do so.
This is a failed policy and should stop.
In his 4 year wait, Trump has really researched the entire subject of the American Presidency. It shows in everything he says and does. Not since FDR, or never in my lifetime have I ever seen a president better prepared and more determined to serve his nation well. We are very, very lucky to have him.

I watched the first 5 – 10 minutes of Trump’s speech after the swearing in ceremony but had to turn it off due to a leopard not changing his spots. His words were blame the other Party for the ills of this country, how great the nation would be after he takes office and how he was miraculously saved from the assassin’s bullet. After the latter remark, I turned off the TV. It was Trumpesque to say the least.
I was sincerely hoping that his speech would be Kennedyesque circa 1961 inaugural with a new vision for America. Challenging our citizens to do better. A peace initiative for the Middle East. An acknowledgment to China that they are an economic competitor but not a military adversary. An olive branch to the Global South. Scheduling a peace conference with W. Europe, Ukraine and Russia. Investing in American jobs. Investing in education. Taxing the oligarchs or privileged wealthy economic elites that have reaped nearly all of the benefits while not sowing the seeds of shared prosperity that they had a limited hand in creating.
What I did see were billionaires behind him in the VIP section but no MAGA working class citizens. What I did read were corporations and billionaires paid for the second inaugural.
So, if the Donald wants to continue similarly as he did last time with a dystopian speech then the next day saying had the biggest attendance at an inaugural ever, etc. he is well on the path but with a nuanced difference.
His tone was not positive, humble, thankful, ingratiating to those that he will need their help if he is to make America great again. Successful presidents after winning a second term such as Lincoln and FDR reached out to those that were left behind in their first term acknowledging that more needs to be done for them. Trump did none of this…

The speech was good reflection of the American delusion: the idea that returning to a big macho attitude will bring back decades of poor educational achievements and excess beer drinking. As if the rest of the World had not changed in the meantime. I hope I am wrong, but my expectation is that this will end just like the recent Starship launch, but not after billionaires have looted more of American wealth.
Restoring merit and prioritizing Americans first, and fully harnessing our competitive advantages in energy will go a long way to undoing the damage. If this administration avoids the corruption of the last one, avoids foreign entanglements, and serves Main Street and families instead of K Street, then it could be a resounding success. I worry about the debt load and spending problem though; and Trump is old (albeit, a very energetic 78 year old).
