Two Top Republican Senators Blame Trump for Killing DHS Funding Bill

But Trump just TACOed. Republicans do not want the blame for airport delays.

Trump TACO’d late today, but let’s discuss the humiliation from the top.

On March 22, Trump posted an obvious bluff (lead image). Clueless individuals in MAGA hats thought this would get the SAVE Act passed.

Then 12 Hours Ago

Trump rejects off-ramp to fund DHS

NBC reports Trump rejects off-ramp to fund DHS as airport delays worsen

Under a proposal pitched to Trump, Republicans would offer to reopen all of DHS except ICE and fund the controversial enforcement agency under a separate party-line budget bill.

The Department of Homeland Security has been shut down for more than a month, and while key operations, such as TSA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, are still operating, many of those employees are working without pay. As NBC News reported this weekend, more than 400 TSA officers have quit since the shutdown began. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is also shut down, but its employees are being paid through Trump’s big beautiful bill passed last year.

With that, Trump took ownership of the airport mess. Republican senators did not want the blame.

MAGA cheered the bluff. Then the unexpected happened.

Republican Senators Quickly Throw Trump Under the Bus

TACO Trump Backs Down Already

Trump signals shift to backing DHS compromise with Democrats

The Hill reports Senate GOP says Trump signals shift to backing DHS compromise with Democrats

03/23/26 10:47 PM ET.
Senate Republicans believe that President Trump is willing to accept a potential deal to fund the Department of Homeland Security following a White House meeting on Monday night.

It would be a significant shift for Trump, who over the weekend repeatedly he would not make a deal with Democrats unless they moved separate voting legislation known as the SAVE America Act.

But Trump signaled he is open to a deal to reopen the Homeland Security Department even if it doesn’t fully fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a two-hour meeting at the White House Monday evening, according to GOP senators briefed on the meeting.

A Senate Republican source familiar with the discussion said Trump is willing to separate funding for the Enforcement and Removal Operation from the Homeland Security appropriations bill in order to get enough Democratic support it.

Under the proposal presented to Trump, Senate Republicans would pass additional money for ICE’s removal operations under the budget reconciliation process, which allows them to circumvent a Democratic filibuster in the Senate as long as the legislation being considered meets certain requirements related to the spending, taxation or deficit reduction.

Senate Republicans had presented a similar proposal to Trump over the weekend, when they suggested setting aside funding for ICE to allow the rest of the Homeland Security appropriations bill to pass under regular order and then use the budget reconciliation process later this year to add more money for immigration enforcement operations later this year.

But Trump emphatically rejected that offer this weekend in a private conversation and later panned the idea in an interview with NewsNation and a follow-up post on Truth Social.

How Fast Was the TACO?

  • Truth Social Transparent Bluff: Mar 22, 2026, 6:31 PM
  • The Hill Report: 03/23/26 10:47 PM ET

But that’s The Hill report, not the TACO decision. Realistically, Trump TACOed in about a day.

It’s really amazing watching Trump self-destruct in a series of obvious lies, one right after the other.

That ridiculous bluff got the SAVE Act crowd all excited.

Please note Polymarket odds H.R. 22 (SAVE Act) signed into law in 2026? are now 11 percent.

The odds the SAVE Act passes by April 30 are 8 percent.

The amount of clueless cheerleading on X is stunning.

My Position Remained Unchanged Despite the Nonsensical Hype

All that remains to be seen is how much longer Republicans torture themselves over the act.

Everyone knows Democrats are the corrupt gang in Government —from treason of illegal immigaration to the Daycare fraud and NGOs kickbacks—Now Democrats want to protect their illegal immigrant voter base and no ID voter requirement. If you are still a Democrat after all these facts are exposed —Amazing how the human brain and emotions deludes the individual

We have the clock ~ They have the time…

The EIA’s 32 member countries are required to maintain 90 days of equivalent oil inventory hand at all times for emergencies. This equates to roughly 600 million barrels under government obligation and another 650 million for other emergency purposes.

400 million barrels are starting to be released by the EIA now or will be scheduled for release over the next month. This amount barely touches the deficit in production given the loss of 20 million barrels of oil production per day because of the war.

Every 20 days of lost production is 400 million barrels. We are at day 26 which is 520 million barrels of lost crude oil production.

US production is at all time highs so Americans will not be as affected as the balance of the world. But rest assured, refined and finished products will go to the highest bidder.

The war has also curtailed:
20% of world LNG supplies.
55% of world Sulfur supplies (more important and useful than you think).
39% of global Helium supplies.
8% of global aluminum production.

So that clock?

It keeps ticking closer to global economic hardship on a domino effect timeline.

I think Trump is right on this. Pass secure voting or nothing gets passed. No country allowed mailed ballots with such loose rules. Look up all the liberal European countries. Much tighter.

Democrats’ refusal to fund the Department of Homeland Security unless reforms are made to how Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers carry out their duties.

The Illegal Immigration party is focused of prioritizing the needs of illegal immigrants ahead of legal immigrants and US citizens. It’s blatant and “in your face” at this point. It’s their entire platform, and drives every legislative action.

LOL! I rest my case. Having ICE support TSA agents scared the bejeezus out of the Democrats because it impacts “their constituency”, illegal immigrants. It certainly isn’t Americans they are fighting for — they’ve proven that.

Strikes provisionally lined up for the No Kings Day protests across the USA. Trump to protestors: I Am Your King!

Sentient

I think the “No Kings” thing is so amorphous that it accomplishes nothing. A targeted “No War on Iran” protest would be better. We’ve attacked a country on the other side of the world that posed no risk to us and did nothing to us. That gets conflated with the general “I hate Trump” vibe. I see the people in my neighborhood protesting “No Kings” and I doubt that most of them even know we’ve started a war. I assume that most of them would be against the war if asked, but it’s not a major concern t them.

To be fair, the Team D leadership is only complaining about procedures, sure that if we had a “nuanced” (liberals love that word) discussion, the War On Iran would be so much better run. They aren’t against the war itself.

Sort of like John Kerry in 2004. It was already abundantly obvious that The War On Iraq was not going as advertised, but Kerry insisted that he somehow could do a much better job if only he were in charge.

The group that sponsors the protests is called No Kings. The different protests have different themes. The first one was against Trump’s military parade and dictatorial behavior. The second one was anti-ICE, with a large Hispanic turnout. The one this weekend will be anti-war.

Can they do it ithout destroying the oil infrastructure that this war is all about? BiBi wants the oil revenue for Israel and sure does not want to pay for it. He wants the US to pay for it.

There are/were 20,000 oil workers on Kharg. When I think about it objectively, both sides are theocratic fanatics. If they weren’t, they could not be divided and set against each other by the neo-cons.

Israel the well funded aggressor, Iran the trampled target.

The US military is the tool of destruction and taking for the US Israel and the oligarchs.

We the proles can all eat well, send our kids to school without them getting blown up by Tomahawk missiles. We drive our cars wherever the f we want, and live in relative luxury.

What does the “Save Act” Accomplish?

1. Verifies via “Proof of Citizenship” that you are eligible to Vote.
2. Verifies via “Proof of Whom you are” via a valid ID that matches your Registration info that allows you to Vote.

The claim by naysayers, is that people don’t have that proof or documentation. Well they then have 3 choices.
1. Go to any DMV in the Country (all over the place) and get a “Valid Drivers License”. All Drivers in America should have one of these.
2. Go to any DMV in the Country (all over the place) and get a “Valid ID License”. All people who have lost there license for “Drinking and Driving” for example, must get these. In fact anybody in America, who doesn’t drive, should absolutely already have one of them, but if for that strange reason that they don’t, it’s as Easy as waiting in line at Dunkin Donuts to get (not the donut, just the ID).
3. Don’t Vote, Don’t Drive, and don’t do anything that requires a Valid ID until you do. It will take you longer to fight the first time you don’t have it and still try to get in or do something that requires it, than if you just went down the street and applied for one.

I know this because I have done it myself, because I had to. Unless something has changed, it was fast, easy, and painless to get. It was suggested I bring something to read, so I brought a sports illustrated and never even got half way done before my name was called. Easy, Peasy as they say… not sure what this overwhelming issue is, to have a Safe, Secure and Valid Election for Our Country? Very odd? Purple fingers anyone…

100%.

If you can’t figure out how to get documents that identify who you are, you’re too stupid to be voting.

I’ve noticed lots of vial footage from the airport in Hotlanta…so that demographic is obviously smart enough to get through TSA with ID.

All that said, the SAVE Act could be made even simpler re: ID. But the mail-in, unsolicited ballots and extended elections ballot counting taking weeks and months has to stop.

We already have safe, secure, and valid elections in the USA. It is not an overwhelming issue. It’s not even an underwhelming issue. I have had a passport most of my adult life. I do not know how much it costs. Because I am wealthy, and it’s immaterial. I have a “real” driver’s license. I have a certified copy of my birth certificate in my safe. I have a valid driver’s license. It is recognized in the state that I live in. Until recently, it was recognized by the federal government.

For me to have what you consider, a real ID would require me to spend $180 and wait up to 6 months to get a passport. That’s without 40 million people applying to get a passport in order to vote.

Most importantly, the fee of $180 to establish my right to vote is exactly a poll tax. I don’t know what kind of America you happen to live in, but a poll tax is illegal as specified in the constitutional amendments.
