Take a country (A) with basically medieval values, run by a fanatical, backward religion and feed in massive amounts of oil revenue.
Money is used to sponsor terrorism and global Islamic proselytizing. Ignore beheadings, civil rights, etc., ignore the hypocrisy of people who ban alcohol but have massive stocks of booze in their palaces and abhore homosexuality but practice it in foreign lands, then flee back home when someone gets killed. Sell them loads of weapons and support them up to the hilt. Do so even when they fund their nationals to crash planes into your own buildings.
Take another country (B) with almost exactly the same situation and backward views (but without putting the suicidal maniacs on your own soil). Now consider them mortal enemies because they threw out the dictator you wanted running the show and put in their own religious fanatics. Shoot their passenger planes out of the sky and just say, “oops”. Try and starve them into submission without the support of the rest of the world.
(A) and (B) are sworn enemies, based on their different interpretations of how they should think about their common, imaginary friend. They both think they alone should be running Arabia.

It has also been proven that Iran helps these terrorists in Yemen, and not only Yemen but also terrorists in Israel, Syria and even Lebanoon. The Iranian regime has done a lot of wrong doing lately. They deserve to be punished.
I don’t want the US to get involved in every conflict, and we should a avoid ground conflicts at all costs. But an aerial attack to Iranian military bases makes sense. I don’t know about oil refineries, that might also work, but it will affect the economy a and the most vulnerable in that country.

Agreed, Lindsey Graham is definitely a nutcase…the bigger issue is now every two bit wanna be terrorist knows how to knock out key infrastructure with a few thousand dollar drone devices. We’d better get anti-drone metal netting up and quickly around sensitive infrastructure.

The war in Yemen is no different on who is on who’s dide. Why do you think the Taliban in Afghanistan keeps bombing muslim Hazara mosques? Why do you think Iran militias are fighting ISIS in Syria?
Saudi Arabia will respond to this. They have the weapons systems.
So the real question to ask is how to stop a full Saudi – Iran air war.
There will be no Saudi/Iran war. KSA can’t even defeat Yemen so how could they take on Iran? The Saudi method of warfare is to press a few launch buttons and hire some mercenaries to attack elsewhere. They have no stomach for any war that inflicts any casualties within their borders. Oil wealth has made the Saudis some of the softest people in the world.
The Saudis and Israelis want the US to do the heavy lifting, of course. Trump has been signalling toward peace so Pompeo, Graham, and other warmongers have to make noise to influence him. Hence the wailing and gnashing of teeth over these refineries.
When even the wealthy, well treated and connected, raise kids like Osama, it kind of limits how big and widespread of an military you feel comfortable arming….

Iran has a modern infrastructure to include ports, airports, power generation, sanitation and oil production and oil refinement. All juicy targets for a modern air force involved in an AIR conflict.
There would be no ground troops in Iran from Saudi Arabia. SA is not looking to defeat Iran. They are looking to inflict damage and pain on them for revenge in an AIR conflict.
Saudi Arabia has a MODERN and well trained Air Force. To include F-15s, Tornadoes, Typhoons, AWACS, tankers, and EW aircraft.

You’re touting the mighty KSA air force? They buy tons of weapons from the West to keep up their part of the petrodollar agreement, but that doesn’t mean the Saudis are gearing up for any serious conflict.
The Saudis are not leading any war, air-based or otherwise. They are unwilling to have any significant casualties, and Iran could inflict plenty. They’ll hide behind the US, just like Israel.
Actually, the last war between Shia and Sunni was more than 1300 years ago. Since then Muslims have not been at war with each other on this account. It is only since the CIA has been operating there that everybody thinks that this is the root of violence and conflict in the Middle East.

Yeah, it’s a bad sign that Pompeo, Graham, and their ilk immediately started beating drums for war with Iran. This comes on the heels of Bolton’s firing, a signal that Trump didn’t really want armed conflict with Iran. Will this be enough to turn the tide?
As much as the Saudis deserve comeuppance for their crimes against Yemen, this seems a bit too convenient for warmongers.
This is off the shelf technology. Fairly cheap now too. ISIS did the same to a Russian airbase in Syria last year.
