Tesla is proof that people are willing to speculate on high growth and the promise of future profitability, even if they know nothing about the odds. Also, there are those who believe electric vehicles will be government mandated to replace combustion engine vehicles despite their higher costs and battery safety issues. Given the ethanol fuel blending fiasco, it is hard to say what lawmakers may foist upon us.

If you have to ask, then you shouldn’t be shorting stocks. But if you must, buy some long-dated out of the money put options.

That’s what financialization is all about: The Fed and connected being able to redistribute wealth from those who produce it, to fashionable dilettantes. Roach and mold infested shacks in San Francisco aren’t exactly “turning a profit” on operations as they sit there decaying in the fog, either. Yet are having their “market cap” lifted beyond all reason by exactly the same forces, and for exactly the same reasons, that Tesla’s is.

@Mish, how would you recommend to short TSLA?

Is TSLA still the most crowded short sale?

Firefox on Ubuntu Trust. Debugging: Ah. The problem is a Firefox feature called “Tracking Protection”. And the Firefox UI seems to have a problem in that you can’t add exceptions to a list. Oh well.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js not loading is probably the killer.

The video plays fine on Chrome on my tablet, but does not show on the samsung browser. Older Note 12.2 running android 5.0.2. It does play on both browsers on my Note 4 using Android 6.0.1. I would say there is an OS vintage issue in play (perhaps HTML5 vs Flash transition item)

Tentative production? But isn’t it a “self driving forklift” and flatbed that will replace drivers?

That is not a Maven Issue. It is a Twitter issue or a browser issue. I have people complaining about this when I send a direct link to Twitter, outside the Maven. And the Video plays for me right now on Chrome in this post. What browser and O/S are you using?

I see the images, but no URL for the video(s) and certainly no embed. They are not filtered by ad blockers. Same problem with in-line Twitter posts. This site only.

My question is, would you trust one of his rockets if your life depended on it if the land based product has the record it does?

This fiasco can spill over into the perception of his other ventures.

I believe Musk was sincere in his ambitions for the EV but bit off more than he can chew. Overly optimistic and confident. Henry Ford went bankrupt more than once I believe. Now he is caught up in this with no way out. I have doubts it will survive. At this point EV’s are not economical.

Tesla was a fraud from the beginning. How do they have a market cap like that and never turn a profit.

I do not know what their regular assembly line looks like. They added this tent operation in two week’s time to hit their goal of 5,000 a week. That said, I am aware they had to remove some robotic operations on their regular line due to problems.

I can only guess that Elon never imagined his con would be allowed to get this far. He never planned to actually figure out how an assembly line is supposed to work.

I’d very happily purchase an EV if it was financially comparable to an ICE vehicle. But Elon isn’t the guy who’s going to get it there.

Being perfectly honest here…I’m shocked. I thought Musk bought a relatively modern facility in CA for his Tesla production and was going to install massive amounts of robots and production cells to streamline assembly of his cars. It appears as if Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, and BMW are light years ahead in production techniques.
