The answer is US Citizens. I have names.
Grok AI Response to the Lead Question
At the Los Angeles protests that erupted starting June 7, 2025, in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, many demonstrators were seen waving Mexican flags. These protests, primarily centered in areas like downtown Los Angeles, Compton, and Paramount, were largely attended by individuals expressing solidarity with immigrants targeted by the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
According to multiple reports, including from The New York Times and CNN, the majority of those waving Mexican flags were Mexican American citizens, often the children or grandchildren of immigrants, who used the flag as a symbol of cultural pride, heritage, and resistance against anti-immigrant policies.
For instance, Elizabeth Torres, a 36-year-old American citizen whose grandparents immigrated to the U.S., was quoted holding a Mexican flag to show support for “Mexican brothers and sisters.” Similarly, Eric Torres, a 30-year-old protester, waved the flag to express solidarity with his community, noting his parents were immigrants.
The protests also featured other Latin American flags and hybrid flags combining Mexican and American elements, reflecting the diverse immigrant communities in Los Angeles, where over 3.4 million people of Mexican heritage reside. The Mexican flag’s prominence was not new, having been a staple at immigration-related protests in Los Angeles since the 1990s, notably during the 1994 Proposition 187 demonstrations.
That Was Easy and Logical
The above was from Grok. I only looked it up after some silly assumptions on X.
Mish: “Provide evidence those waving Mexican flags are illegals. If you can’t then the shut the F up. Logically, it is far more likely the flag bearers were radical Left nutcases or Right agitators than illegals purposely drawing attention to themselves in the presence of ICE. If you can provide evidence, then I will gladly accept it.”
Right wing media jumped to illogical conclusions. Here’s another example of someone taken in.
“Waving Mexican flags wanting to stay in America. Sorry, you have to go back.”
Uh… go back where?
People suck up nonsense without thinking. Then it hits the X echo chamber cesspool, and amplified 10,000 percent.
Most in the echo chamber don’t care if they are wrong because they are blindly obedient to the Cult.
By the way, waving a foreign flag or burning the US flag is protected in the constitution as freedom of speech.
That said, if any illegals were waving Mexican flags, then they invited trouble.
None of this implies zero illegals waved Mexican flags. So, if anyone has any solid evidence of illegals waving Mexican flags, then let’s see it, and I will post it.
However, if they were caught, it would have been shouted from every right-wing news outlet in the country. So, evidence please.
More on Absurd Assumptions
Arizona Patriot assumed I am a Democrat. What a hoot.
An Intelligent Conversation
Some conversations are intelligent, like the above post.
Rob: “Pointing out how awful and corrupt Republican politicians are, doesn’t mean I think Democrat ones are any better. That is just your preprogrammed response. Stop being a robot pawn. Every politician is awful, and usually inept; every single one of them-and they collude to screw you over. If you want real freedom and real change, you need to accept that reality and take some responsibility for how you contributed to the problem. If you cling to the mass delusion, you will just keep getting screwed over.”
MAGA Cheers the Gestapo Tactics that Sparked the LA Riots
On June 10, I commented MAGA Cheers the Gestapo Tactics that Sparked the LA Riots
I do not use the word Gestapo lightly. Let’s discuss the charge.
One careful reader cautioned that the Gestapo rounded up citizens. But another commented …
Gestapo Tactics (according to ChatGPT):Key Characteristics of Gestapo Tactics:
1: Use of Fear and Intimidation
- Publicized arrests or disappearances as a warning.
- Random crackdowns to keep people on edge.
2: Surveillance and Spying
- Constant monitoring of citizens.
- Use of informants (neighbors, coworkers, even family members).
- Little to no privacy—people could be reported for anti-Nazi thoughts or jokes.
3: Arbitrary Arrests and Detentions
- No requirement for warrants or due process.
- People could be taken in the middle of the night without explanation.
4: Interrogation and Torture
- Brutal questioning methods, often involving physical and psychological torture.
- Goal: extract confessions or force compliance.
Much of the above applies except physical torture.
Where Does Trump Stand on Immigration?
That’s a great question.
The answer varies more than you probably think, but it depends on when he was asked.
The Softer Side of Trump
On November, 11. 2014, the Wall Street Journal discussed Trump’s Mass Deportation Promise
Speaking Monday on Fox News, Mr. Homan said the priority will be “public-safety threats and national-security threats,” as well as migrants who “had due process” and “their federal judge said ‘you must go home,’ and they didn’t.”
Good to hear, and add what Mr. Homan told “60 Minutes” last month. “It’s not going to be a mass sweep of neighborhoods,” he said.
Instead he said Mr. Trump’s plan would involve “targeted arrests,” and eventually “worksite enforcement operations.” If officers making an arrest also find an undocumented grandma in the house, will they detain her? “It depends,” Mr. Homan said. “Let the judge decide.”
Some of Mr. Trump’s advisers, including Mr. Miller, have talked about mass deportation in sweeping terms. But enforcement priorities are up to the President, and Mr. Trump has suggested he isn’t interested in illegal grandmothers.
“We have a lot of good people in this country, and we have to do something about it,” Mr. Trump said. “This has been going on for a long time. It’s a complicated subject.” He declined to specify whom he’d deport: “I don’t want to go too much into clarification, because the nicer I become, the more people that come over illegally.” Yet after stringent talk about deterrence, he ended with nuance: “There are some human questions that get in the way of being perfect, and we have to have the heart, too.”
And in December …
Trump said in a recent interview with NBC, that he wanted to work with Democrats to come up with legislation to protect Dreamers, immigrants in the U.S. illegally who were brought as children, from deportation.
Key Trump and Homan Statements
- Homan: Mr. Trump’s plan would involve “targeted arrests.”
- Trump: “We have a lot of good people in this country, and we have to do something about it.”
- Trump: “This has been going on for a long time. It’s a complicated subject.”
- Trump said he wanted to work with Democrats to come up with legislation to protect Dreamers, immigrants in the U.S. illegally who were brought as children, from deportation.
However, backers of hardline immigration policies view an exemption for Dreamers, who often have bipartisan support, as a slippery slope.
Unfortunately, Miller won out with deport them all madness.
In my post Trump’s Inconsistent Positions on Deport them All, What Should He Do? I commented …
A sensible plan is to deport the criminals, shut the border, improve the legal process, give priority to parents and spouses of US citizens, give priority to those here the longest, and give priority to those working.
A Deal for Dreamers
We need a Congressional deal that guarantees the rights of dreamers who have been in the US for a long time and are productive members of the US.
Consideration also applies to those whose spouses are US citizens, and those with citizen children.
It is economically stupid and morally unjust to not work out such a deal. And on three occasions, Trump made supportive statements.
So Dear Readers
So dear readers, please don’t tell me no one has proposed a sensible plan, when Trump himself did, including a deal with Dreamers.
I will have a more specific deal proposal shortly.

“YOUR morals don’t necessarily match with the morals of a majority of others. Sorry…”
It’s easy for clowns to make such statements. An it all depends on how the question is asked doesn’t it?
“Should we deport illegal aliens?” Is one F of a joke question.
Tell people what it will cost or ask phrase the question “Should we deport people with no criminal record who have a job and been here for years?” and you will get a different response.
So sorry, take your economically illiterate and likely bigoted “majority” idea elsewhere.
Been with you for well more than a decade and donated too, Mish, and am very glad I do since you’re the first thing that pops up on by news every single morning. Still happy with the GoldMoney IRA from long ago. I’ll still be here no matter your response to the below.
If people are here illegally, jumping the line ahead of those who respect our laws and are far more likely to be the highly skilled immigrants we need, those illegals need deported fast track. We are first a nation, second to economics. I went through this on another thread, someone said the BBB budget has a Trillion dollars for immigration enforcement over the next 10 years worst case among the departments… Even if it’s true, it’s $180 billion every year to pay for the 10 million in dead weight that came over in the past 3-4 years, nearly double the deportation costs over 10 years.
This is not racism, nor economically being stupid.
Look at the nordic countries and Europe who took in too many immigrants that’s fundamentally changing their country. Still economics?
England is looking now to change the laws to allow cousins to marry because it’s a cultural norm for the massive Muslim immigrant culture they have, and they don’t want to be seen as deviant.
We absolutely need to go after:
1) people who already have deportation orders (over 1 million)
2) anyone who are here illegally in the past 4 years
Leave all the other illegals alone, and maybe help them be legal if there is no criminal record and they are gainfully employed.
For crying out loud, Trump can’t deport the 1 million with legal deportation sentences, let alone the 10 million questionably legal people here already.
Thanks!
I have different ideas but similar. Not 4 years but 2, and certainly criminals.
Think about what happened: We are targeting Home Depot where people actually work instead of gang-bangers and drug dealers who don’t.
In what universe does this make sense?
I read today it was a specific and intentional goal by Trump’s Miller to make things more “public” when he met with ICE in a meeting to target Home Depot and other retailers – not because of policy, but because of publicity.
No, what’s going on now is wrong by any measure. ICE has a list of deportees longer than they can handle, but this is a political stunt to some larger goal.
The majority of illegals hanging out for work at Home Depot do not pay income tax, nor do they have insurance. And those that hire them do not comply with all the taxation, record keeping and safety requirements that they should. PPE is expensive, same with things like dust control. Let the day labourer illegal rip out the asbestos lagging or use the tools without the safety guard to speed things up.
Result is that when those workers get injured on the job or develop chronic illnesses from dust etc then who pays for it?
And those hiring them save bigly by hiring illegals and thus why would they hire legal immigrants and citizens that cost more.
How could this possibly do anything bad to the US economy? /s
One of the worst things you can do to an economy is create a sense of unfairness. Either within the working class or between businesses.
And by “Working Class” I mean everyone who works for a living.
A lawyer making 300K a year but has no passive income enough to sustain him, is working class too.
It’s a mistake to think of working class in the cartoonish way the media portrays. A PhD working as consultant, with no other income than from his job, is working class.
As a highly skilled LEGAL immigrant who went through all the legal hoops to be in the US, let me tell you that those illegal workers being arrested at home depot or strawberry farms “skipped no lines” since there are virtually no legal lines for them to get in the first place. So they have ZERO impact on the already incredibly slow, cumbersome, expensive and bureaucratic processing for highly skilled immigrants like myself.
This whole mess exists in the first place because there is a a huge demand for labor in the US and no way for most would be immigrants to meet that demand in a legal manner. So what you have instead is a black market. Chasing workers at Home Depot or meat packing warehouses does not solve anything. It is just political theater for the MAGA crowd.
I for one am glad that Mish is calling out the economic illiteracy and the bigotry of many who dwell here.
Labor scarcity means people have bargaining power for higher wages. When you massively increase the labor supply that bargaining power disappears and wages stagnate or decline. Myself I am for wages increasing and am glad that we now have a government that is acting to bring that about but some prefer having cheap labor above all other things.
By that logic, you should advocate for the outlawing of computers and agricultural machines. Hell ban shovels while you are it and make people dig with spoons. That will drive labor scarcity and the bargaining power of workers.
Since you are advocating for the government to artificially drive up the scarcity of a production input, why stop there? Go all the way and tackle everything that reduces labor scarcity.
Those increase productivity per worker. Low-wage immigrants do not. In fact they act against increased productivity per worker since the determining factor is the wage rate. There is little reason to introduce machinery since it is easier and quicker just to squeeze wages. Unless you own a lot of revenue-producing assets then your labor is the only thing you have so the price of your labor is not an abstract trivial factor that you can plug into a glorified excel spreadsheet and play with economic outcomes. It is very personal and real. When people voted for Trump they voted to stop immigration for that reason and he is fulfilling that campaign promise to the chagrin of Libertarians, Marxists, Globalists and Free-traders.
correction. it is very marxist. go see how much marx hated immigration.
Neo-Marxists love immigration.
nope. wrong. marxists hate immigration. fascists aka corporatism love immigration and the power that comes with it for the C suite. this is 100 year old formula since mussolini ran against commies. like adolph did. you seem to have a home schooled history knowledge of recent past. pro tip. human primates immigrate regardless of political borders. past 50,000 yearss. southern us / mexico border wide open past 400 years. get reality check.
Indeed, Marx hated immigration for that reason (it eliminates the negotiating power of the working class). And the Bolsheviks killed tons of university professors and “elites” etc. when they assumed power.
Don’t tell that to US Universities.
unemployment is already at historic lows. Factories in jerkwater Alabama have a real hard time finding good workers currently. Where are you imagining all these workers to pick fruit will come from?
When Labour costs rise employers are motivated to increase productivity by investing in machinery and automation, thus creating higher GDP per person which allows for higher wages-that has been the story for about 200 years -so the opposite of banning shovels
i think your grand plan was tried in China in past and even a bit today. i know it was /sarc, and i agree with you of course.
<<Since you are advocating for the government to artificially drive up the scarcity of a production input>>
The Government didn’t promise me a job, but they promised me secure borders within which:
— I can feel safe
— part of a relatively stable community
— part of a relatively predictable market
If the Government destroys all 3, by just opening the borders, why am I paying taxes? Any why wouldn’t I even consider the government my enemy, or at least a major cheater and liar?
sorry people from another country scare you and you dont feel safe.
too bad reality is, that trump is deporting less folks than biden or obama did. it’s theatre for hate mongers. as a person that has been in the construction and r/e investing business in SW usa for decades, it’s not even close to ever being resolved with the stephen miller / TACO theatre of hate. no doubt there is a great big slug of amerikans that love it. whether it’s 25 or 75% of folks, i have no clue. but it sells to those vial and mostly ignorant folks. hate sells. always has. always will. it is the human primate condition of many.
<<since there are virtually no legal lines for them to get in the first place>>
Some of them are married locally, which means green card immediately, the next day after the wedding. Yet, they don’t even apply. Guess why… (green card means SSN, and SSN means taxes and loss of some benefits).
As far as the unmarried, ask yourself, why are there no legal lines for the others to get at least “temporary worker” status?
https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/temporary-nonimmigrant-workers
——
The democrats showed the Dreamers’ status for a while, and it was like a carrot that extended and then retreated. Both parties are responsible, but the recent tsunami was unrelated to immigration. Mish has a hard time writing that Biden (“commander in chief”), for opening the border and cancelling all protections in place, should be legally charged with treason. Not for show and not for blogs or twitter. For real.
You comment highlights a common problem in the USA: Lots of people have strong opinions about immigration, frequently verbalize it, but very few actually understand the laws and the system behind it.
An illegal marrying a citizen “will not get a green card next day”. That is a myth perpetuated by Hollywood shows and the Internet. If an undocumented marries an American, he/she would need to leave the US first in order to adjust its immigration status. That is a requirement to get the green card via marriage. The problem is, if you have been in the US illegally, once you the depart after the marriage to adjust your status, you will be barred from re-entering the US for 3 years if you stayed illegally for 180 days, 10 years if you stayed illegally for up to 1 year and FOREVER if you stayed illegally in the US for more than 1 year (SOURCE: https://citizenpath.com/marrying-an-undocumented-immigrant/). So no, normalizing one’s situation via marriage is simply not possible for the overwhelming majority of the cases.
In regards to the “temporary worker VISA” that is something that only the employer can petition, and needs to be done BEFORE the worker even arrives in the US. So only the prospective employer can employer can make the petition for you. The process is expensive, bureaucratic and time consuming. I know, because I went through it via the H1B VISA. The H1B VISA, for highly skilled workers has a cap of only 65K workers per year. For the H2A (farm worker) there is no cap that I know of, but the process is also as bureaucratic and expensive as it is for the H1B. For low-skilled workers, it is simply not worth the hassle for most potential employers.
appreciate the reality and expertise. i second your analysis and conclusions.
<<An illegal marrying a citizen “will not get a green card next day”. That is a myth perpetuated by Hollywood>>
This is how I got my work authorization in the year 1999, along with my SSN. Literally two days after the wedding.
The only difference from my actual Green Card is the permission to exit and re-enter the country. Which I got two years later.
The work authorization itself is as good a the green card, as long as you don’t leave for two years.
your analysis on green cards is erroneous. but you are correct, the massive wave under biden was for sure electoral college gerrymandering and total calculations. all persons are counted regardless of status. on a personal note, i received a passport and citizenship in the best european nation by the fact my grandfather in 1905 entered USA without papers, like many a WOP(With Out Papers) had. on the census of for a few decades i had to prove a negative to italia government. he had never disavowed his italian citizenship. that requirement had been in place, in waves over the centuries. sometimes yes. sometimes no requirement to disavow other governments. imagine the public spectacle when the us congress is asked to disavow their israeli government citizenship. the howls of anti semitism would be profound. i’m sure it is coming in the future. i’m anti zionist. love all humans, including the jewish and palestinians. who are ironically both semites. the same tribe of people. anthropology 101
I contend that illegal aliens, whether they are “criminals” or not are completely and totally viewed negatively by MAGA. Trump is not going to back down in any case. He can’t be reelected and doesn’t much care what polls say anyway, unless they are in his favor.
I guess you should have voted for Harris. [lol]
Actions, such as who you vote for or whether or not you choose to vote at all, have consequences.
He was elected to do that and he is doing it.
“Should we deport people with no criminal record who have a job and been here for years?”
Before, many people would have said no because only a few would not really be much of a problem but with the massive increase we have just experienced the equation changes dramatically. If you are a wage earner as most people are then your bargaining power for higher wages just collapsed. Of course many owners and their allies love that and don’t care about the long-term consequences and try to pose it as a moral argument but that argument falls flat in the face of the economic reality most people are subject to.
<<I contend that illegal aliens, whether they are “criminals” or not >>
Migrating illegally is a crime itself.
Trump is not sufficient for the deportations. I would have started with the NGOs and their financiers, and in the background silently building cases for every single congress member, lobbyist, and leaders of all South American and European countries. These are times for Cardinal Richelieu.
Oh really? Here is Trump saying an hour ago he needs to protect illegals. Lol!
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NDFCgFPojtI
The rioters… they were the ones waving the Mexican flag.
hysteria and name calling always work when selling stock, but maybe not in attacking the Thump who seems to be polling even better among hispanics after the riots, especially men. I got my plea for money from Gavin Newsom text today. Mish, he needs your help. That would be more constructive than above.
So, Mike, since you have names, who was the guy riding his motorcycle around the burning car while holding the Mexican flag?
The flag waver could be an America hater. The thought flows better when the American flag is hung upside down or defaced. In LA the American waving a Mexican flag could be claiming that LA is a city for Mexican immigrants.
With or without flags, the right to protest should be modified. Currently the protestors’ right to resist and express outrage in this country comes without any costs for doing so, even though the cost is very high.
A protestor should be required to have protestors’ insurance. This idea is modeled after liability coverage for auto insurance and, in some states, uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage. Organizers of protests should also have protest organizer insurance and be identified on a permit when protests are held in a public place or area. Haven’t figured-out what to do about having premiums and bonding paid by anybody other than the individual protestor. For premiums the old-fashioned way would require that each member of the group monetarily pay to take an insurable interest in only themselves. Premiums would be high. Those who can’t afford protestors’ insurance can save money and resist peacefully by not protesting.
Illegal immigrants, despite their taxes paid, still cost the state of CA, the taxpayers that is, 23 billion per year.
Since this is an economics focused space, for those NOT wanting to expel illegal immigrants, I welcome your suggestions and what you will do to fix this imbalance. And I do mean you, as you, the advocates for illegal immigration, need to fix this. No more childish responses, no more insults…. just lay out your plan and how YOU will be part of fixing this cost.
The rest of us await your replies.
I don’t think it’s practical to deport all illegal aliens, but it’s really not fair for people who pay no taxes to receive public education and other government benefits at the expense of US taxpayers. So I would start with a financial crackdown on that rather than physical removal. I’d rather we not have a welfare state, but since we do, everyone needs to be registered and paying for it.
And last I saw, legal immigrants have gone full majority supporting Trump’s immigration policies. Why? Because they are Leeee gle.
You lost me at NYT and CNN. Mexico is a sovereign country. The flag for the US is quite different. They just wanted to have fun watching cars burn and waving Mexican flags and looting. Yeah, no.
My Take doesn’t agree Mish.
1: Use of Fear and Intimidation > What do you suggest, warm milk and cookies?
– Publicized arrests or disappearances as a warning. > So they verbally explained things, and backed it up by showing they are doing what they said. This is “Fair” and should be “Expected” by anyone that is fearful of seeing it and hearing it, coincide with “Action Taken” Clear and Concise…
– Random crackdowns to keep people on edge > In response to violence and behavior that warrants arrest and if necessary after what you find out, perhaps a penalty to pay for your misdeed.
2. Surveillance and Spying > What do you recommend, await them to come to you?
– Constant monitoring of citizens. > Um, this sort of behavior has been done to ALL People in America, and for decades and decades.
– Use of informants (neighbors, coworkers, even family members). > SEE ABOVE
– Little to no privacy—people could be reported for anti-Nazi thoughts or jokes. > Now that’s a joke right? They could be reported for being a trans or they like fireworks too, so what? Last I check we are a free country, and our thoughts our are own.
3: Arbitrary Arrests and Detentions > I suppose given the circumstances, but not an excuse, this will occur. With more help from all States, would most certainly soften this big time, as well as other issues.
– No requirement for warrants or due process.> Only if illegal correct? No Rights if yes.
– People could be taken in the middle of the night without explanation. > Only if illegal correct? No rights if yes.
4: Interrogation and Torture > Let’s get rid of Torture Please, are you insane? Of course some interrogation if necessary. They can get a lawyer I would suspect, as that is there right.
– Brutal questioning methods, often involving physical and psychological torture. > Not buying this one bit!
– Goal: extract confessions or force compliance. Whose Goal? Why? If they are illegal then follow the law, no need for interrogation or anything else.
I am all for closing the border. I got excited about throwing out gang members. This is not what I expected.
I am very sick of the “illegals” issue! It is not just one issue; it is many distinct issues. There is the issue of a porous Southern Border (should be more secure, but I am not a believer that a “wall” is the end-all be-all), there is the issue of the country-specific problems that drive people to leave everything behind and look for the most expedient way to get to the United States, there is the issue of a slow and complex legal immigration system, there is the reality that the agriculture, construction, and hospitality industry needs the low skilled labor that Central American migrants provide, and there is the issue that once a person is on U.S. soil they Constitutionally are guaranteed due process. The bottom line is that we need a substantial number of low-skilled immigrants every year, and there is a very sizable number of these people who want to migrate and work in the United States. We need to work on all of the above problems, and scare tactics and mass deportation are not the answer.
Nice try you provided two names and an assertion from the pro-migrant, liberal, media. N=2 means nothing. Come on man.
“So dear readers, please don’t tell me no one has proposed a sensible plan, when Trump himself did, including a deal with Dreamers.” Sorry but just doing a deal for dreamers does not fix the immigration issue. There are millions of illegals NOT in that category. Does the deal for dreamers including deporting some, none, or all of those here illegally and not dreamers? And then what about chain migration?
I don’t necessarily think the purpose of very public ICE raids is meant to actually make a huge difference in clearing out the illegal immigrants, it’s more to show the World that you cannot just decide your are now going to live in America and skip the usual immigration process. There’s no question that when you have a very lax immigration enforcement policy like what occurred under the Democrats you are basically telling the World that you can come to the US illegally and it is easy and there are no consequences for sneaking in and it is sneaking in.
Try flying to any Country in Europe or Asia or anywhere in the World for that matter, go to Customs and when they ask you your purpose for visiting their Country declare you have decided to move to their Country. When you than tell them you have no Visa or paperwork of any sort, you would be denied entry, spun around so fast and immediately put back on a plane and sent back to where you came from. For some reason some Americans believe that if you sneak in the Country illegally you should be rewarded by given a Green Card or citizenship? If you do that you are declaring to the rest of the World that America has a very weak immigration policy and if you sneak in you will eventually be rewarded and allowed to stay.
There’s a very white Swedish guy that does YouTube travel video’s I watch occasionally, he went to College in the US for several years but after College he over stayed his Visa and now has been banned from entering the US, I don’t know if it’s indefinitely but its been at least 5 years and he still can’t go back. That is an example of telling people they have to abide by the rules. The people rioting are saying we don’t have to follow or obey the rules and many Americans are okay with this?
i suppose the 1980s under the old Democrat Ronnie Raygun giving amnesty is too far back in the history books for most modern MAGA bootlickers.
30-35 years too far
Do you honestly think that is how it works in America? Try that yourself next time you fly. Go into immigration, say that you are a foreigner and that you just want to move in. See what happens. It does not work like that now and it did not work like that before, either with Biden, Obama or Bush.
Instead of making a slippery slope for dreamer, simply legalize all foreigners working above 3 times the $15 indexed minimum wage. That way, the employees will also pay higher taxes that will compensate for unskilled workers benefits.
Great simplification : company who need skilled worker and can’t find ones can simply higers them, and the market regulates as needed. No quotas for avoiding foreign workers competing too much compared to local labor with families. No form filling. No need to check if one’s foreign qualification/degree is fake or not.
You eliminate the need of most visa types, which leads to a great simplification of the immigration law.
And then dock their paychecks with extra charges so that their take home pay is at the original wage rate! The company can then recuperate the additional cost from the legislation and maybe more. If we can get a loophole in the bill we can make it legal. Gaming the system for fun and profit is a blast.
An economic crash is coming and has started imo. Things are going to get worse before getting better. It will take the better part of the next 7 years.
Is this a sideshow to distract us from the incredible budget disaster that Trump is pushing through against all of his campaign rhetoric?
Trump is using our military and military tactics against Americans. To attack and inflame instead of going after the drug networks and criminal entities.
Showmanship over substance…
The huge ugly budget is about to be passed and a trillion dollars wasted on what is called “Defense”. It is not defense, it is offense and now is being used against individual cities and states. Against governors and mayors. Against Americans that support immigrants (legal and Illegal).
Immigration is a complex endeavor. Best suited to well educated and well funded applicants. Crossing a border is a simple act that immediately improves economic opportunity for those who live in overpopulated areas without opportunity.
Is overpopulation the problem?
No simple solutions here but we are about to see a massive increase in deficit spending by our federal government under the cover of a military invasion of our states and cities.
January 6th was a dress rehearsal.
MAGA hats should have an embroidered emblem of the Statue of Liberty after being removed from Ellis Island ~ loaded on a barge for transportation back to France.
It is a actually even worse. Hes been pardoning known felons in the cyber world who enable child trafficking and other things online.
He pardoned Ross Ulbricht who ran the Deep Web Site Silk Road that was basically a Marketplace for illegal drugs. He was given a double life sentence plus 40 years which many people believed was severe. Ross Ulbricht served 10 years, was that enough, that’s debatable but I can assure you the Silk Road was not about child trafficking.
If you want to talk about child trafficking, there is tons of evidence that because of the previous administration’s lax border policy it has opened the flood gates of cross border child trafficking. That’s just another in a long list of reasons to have strong birder enforcement.
“Trump is using our military and military tactics against Americans. To attack and inflame instead of going after the drug networks and criminal entities.”
That is the leftist narrative.
LA KFI talk radio host John Kobylt interviewed Tom Homan for 20 minutes. The information isn’t what progressive MSM tries to define as ICE or Trump’s agenda. Kobylt is familiar with the local personas and their motives. John Kobylt’s show is available on podcast.
Mexican American citizens who feel compelled to wave Mexican flags in support of those who seek to thwart American law enforcement from enforcing immigrations laws-should consider moving back to Mexico. maybe they can support their own countrymen and government in their efforts to free that Country from the powerful, corrupt Narco drug cartels. You know, those same cartels that have made billions illegally exporting illegal immigrants into the United States, to supplement their enormous profits from child sex trafficking, illegal drugs (especially fentanyl)
Everyone should carry the Monopoly cards:
Get Out Of Jail Free
Bank Error In Your Favor – Collect $1,000,000,000,000.
Talking about waving flags is only an excuse to stop dissent and take away your rights to protest.
correct
Right to protest doesn’t include blocking highway traffic.
Or burning buildings.
i do NOT think, Mish has ever endorsed violent or illegal or unconstitutional acts. he seems like a solid libertarian and law abiding citizen. though i never did see his passport or birth certificate, so who knows. /sarc
Those waving the flags of other countries may in fact be agent provocateurs working for deportation advocates. Those who commit property destruction might be rageful people looking to rage, and have no alliance with peaceful protesters, or deportation advocates.
CORRECT. THE TERM AGENT PROVOCATEURS SEEMS TO ALWAYS ALLUDE MOST PEOPLE IN TIMES LIKE THIS. Most of the women and men I know are so binary in times of turmoil or warfare. The best example is 9.11 and the project for new amerikan century. Most still don’t get it.
It seems logical that the MAGA hats should have a stitched Statue of Liberty lying on its side strapped to a barge heading back to France…
Along with it should be a flotilla of ships full of Europeans whose families immigrated here with no vetting or proper background checks.
Heaven forbid that the melting pot that makes this country so versatile and productive be respected and enjoyed!
Idiots do not understand that diversity and competition makes everything better!
Sheesh!
I said the same thing myself the other day when I uttered…” Diversity sure does look good from my gated community. ”
Once I hit the traffic and could not find parking, I thought quite the opposite.
i live in middle of brooklyn, hood called little haiti/caribbean. i have zero fear or trepidation walking the village of brooklyn. from my hood to hasidic jews, to russian hoods to latino hoods to the most WASP hood of brooklyn heights. a 3 minute commute to wall street. those boys run the empire in their little brownstone shacks worth 5 to 20 million amerikan lira.
I don’t really live in a gated community, my comment was feigned elitism.
“It seems logical that the MAGA hats should have a stitched Statue of Liberty lying on its side strapped to a barge heading back to France…”
I find your logic to be flawed. Democrats always love to conflate illegal immigration with legal immigration, as if both were identical. They are not.
Well, this will be disinflationary, going forward:
As of May 25, 2025, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has implemented significant changes to its residency requirements.Non-permanent residents are no longer eligible for FHA-insured mortgages
The more credit opportunities and subsidies/handouts we cut off from non-permanent residents (aka illegal immigrants), the slower the growth in inflation. Lord knows, the US needs some disinflation for a change.
I bet a ton of people would be interested to see an article on the status of subsidy “opportunites” and credit availability for “undocumented” immigrants, as of June 1, 2025.
And I’m talking about actual cash flows with respect to my subsidies question, not Federal directives for spending, which are being blatantly ignored by California state, and likely other government jurisdictions at the city, county, and state levels across the country.
Great news for those upstanding citizens, they’ll have a long period of all expense paid leisure to be proud of their heritage: Bondi said, “we’re applying the Hobbs Act. If you loot a store, we’re charging you with robbery under the Hobbs Act. That carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.”
As for illegals if they resist deportation, there’s CECOT and when that fills up, Putin says there’s plenty of room in Siberia for permanent guest workers.
Best bet: border jumpers, please take the $5k cash and a plane ticket, you’ll live longer. Respect to Mish and other who feel differently, but enough is enough.
I have no problem with prison sentences for rioters and looters.
Arrest em all.
Mish : I don’t believe the New York Times , CNN , MSNBC about Mexican flags flown by Citizens. What’s their definition of a US citizen ??? What about the Guatemala flags , Venezuela flags , Cuban flags seen ??? Mainstream media is the LLM ( Lying Legacy Media ). Deport all these ILLEGALS OUT
Can’t anyone read?
For instance, Elizabeth Torres, a 36-year-old American citizen whose grandparents immigrated to the U.S., was quoted holding a Mexican flag to show support for “Mexican brothers and sisters.” Similarly, Eric Torres, a 30-year-old protester, waved the flag to express solidarity with his community, noting his parents were immigrants.
What about actual names rings untrue?
Oh, I get it.
Mish’s Rule of Sources
People will believe any fool accusation if it supports their view.
They won’t believe any sources, no matter how well documented, if it does not support their view
These flags just don’t have good optics and the Republicans, especially Trump, are nothing but good at capitalizing on optics in their campaigns.
This WILL be used against the Dems in the upcoming Congressional midterm elections.
It’s not about the legality of their presence. It’s about building a machine to arrest and detain huge numbers of people. When the immigrants are gone, the machine will turn its eye to people that disagree with king puddin’ pants.
The current ‘camps’ will evolve into gulags.
That is a very astute hypothesis with lots of merit.
anyone who has been to a country like cuba or russia etc……the real fear of walls, and military on streets is “NOW YOU CANNOT LEAVE”. was in a russian night club in 90s, when matter of factly about 30 military/police with machine guns came into the club. it was a shake down of the owner. the left about 10 minutes later with USD in hand is what i heard. cuba is much worse.
I was there in 1989 Soviet Union, and can agree with you then, well before the collapse.
thanks. what my pals told me too. my best pal at time had defected.
<<The current ‘camps’ will evolve into gulags.>>
The Germans 2 decades ago kind of did it in Romania. A lawyer friend of mine travelled there and saw some gigantic German factories with worker “dorms”. Monthly salary $250 euros. Can’t call them gulags of course, but someday someone will have the time to write about dark stories of the “Europäische Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft” (“European Economic Community” – a term and idea coined by Herman Goering in the Berlin Conference 1942, which persisted until 1993).
we have prisons in usa over the past century that do the same.
Covid Vax Scarf Lady just joined Palantir.
FORCED SHOTS FOR ALL. MAYBE EVEN FORCED Elon Musk INSEMINATION PROGRAM.
Except for the part that America is armed to the teeth. There will be no “camps or gulags”
Could just solve the problem and set hefty fines for businesses and citizens who hire illegals.
The businesses could set up people to be head hunters in other nations. Similar to head hunters who find employees in the us. Zoom meeting. Arrange online with border patrol employee shows up get id finger printed list of rules.
Problem regulated. And solved.
Dems or republicans could have done something at any time. Deportations have not worked all the way back to Regan. I asylum seekers have to apply at us embassy( us soil) in a country adjacent to country of origin. Zoom meeting with judge and lawyers if approved show up at board by x date. Finger printed ids set of rules.
Would this work. Maybe maybe not. But deportation hasnt. Still would prob be cheaper.
Problem not solved. Where the flying F do businesses, especially construction, agricultural, and hotels etc. get employees and at what cost?
Your proposal targets those working, regardless of cost, and does nothing about the drug dealers.
A roofing crew were picked up yesterday by ICE at a jobsite I was working on today in Chesterfield MO.
Texas Talks Tough on Immigration. But Lawmakers Won’t Force Most Private Companies to Check Employment Authorization.
https://www.propublica.org/article/texas-e-verify-requirements-immigration
if Abbott wasn’t full of shit, he could just check passports or birth certificates of every farm hand, meatpacking, hotel and restaurant. he’s a showman. like TACO sidekick.
“Where the flying F do businesses, especially construction, agricultural, and hotels etc. get employees and at what cost?”…….
They will get workers at market costs, not below market costs as they do now. Why let entire industries operate only because they exploit an underclass. Market forces will correct the system and businesses that can’t afford to be in business will make room for other businesses that can. There is always a market. Businesses need to find a market that incorporates dignity.
If cost is an issue, cut your profits or go out of business. It is not all right to hire illegals to cut costs.
It always comes down to who is picking the cotton and how much they’re paid.
and tariffs. true in 1820s to 1860s and true today.
Will the stock market go up?
uh oh! ICE raids meat packing plants! If only someone hard warned about coming food shortages and food price inflation…. 😛
https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-immigration-raid-omaha-meat-211410000.html
U.S. meat producer Glenn Valley Foods was operating an Omaha, Nebraska, facility with about 30% of its staff on Wednesday after federal agents detained workers in an immigration raid the previous day, slashing the output of products it sells to grocery stores and restaurants, the company’s president said.
Hey JoJo, get those robots & automation out there ASAP! LOL! Gonna pop some fresh popcorn for the show.
Who is picking the corn?
How many food processing plants did they burn 3 and 2 years ago?
Anyone remembers?
Mike, I’m genuinely asking. Doesn’t the following say that it’s a crime to enter the United States unlawfully?
here is the complete law
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325
The first paragraph is a real hoot.
Where do you see the word “crime”
I see the words “civil penalty” and fine.
I’m not a lawyer but being fined, and/or imprisoned and having a Mark on your criminal record sure sounds like a crime to me.
https://www.mastersonhall.com/charged-with-improper-entry-understanding-8-usc-1325/
If it was a crime – they would have to be read Miranda, given a right to legal counsel, and not transported to other jurisdictions, with no one even knowing.
Which way do you want it?
I would be happy if it was a crime. Then all of the above would have to happen.
you are too logical and truthful, for the hate mongers. they see nothing but red.
Mike,
I agree with your arguments of getting rid of the “bad” guys but by the following definition, illegal entry is a crime.
Civil vs Criminal OffenseCivil and criminal offenses differ primarily in their nature and the parties involved. A civil offense is an illegal action targeted towards a specific person or corporation, such as workplace discrimination.2 In contrast, a criminal offense involves an illegal action that affects society as a whole, such as a misdemeanor or felony offense.2
The fundamental difference between civil and criminal cases lies in the fact that criminal cases involve a crime against the state, while civil cases are disputes between private parties.3 In criminal cases, the government or state files the case and is led by a prosecuting attorney, whereas civil cases are filed by a private party to settle a dispute between another party, typically individuals or corporations.5
Criminal cases deal with offenses against the state, even if immediate harm is done to an individual, and are prosecuted by the state in a criminal court. On the other hand, civil cases typically involve disputes between parties regarding the legal duties and responsibilities they owe to one another.
How many times do I have to ask – what Crime?
Show me.
Point to the law, not some opinion.
here is the complete law

I’m really not trying to belabor this but here is what ChatGPT says:
Illegal entry into the United States is a criminal offense, while unlawful presence (e.g. overstaying a visa) is typically a civil violation.
Here’s a breakdown:
🔹 Illegal Entry (Entering Without Inspection)
🔹 Unlawful Presence (e.g., Visa Overstay)
In summary:
Begs the question: are the ICE agents breaking the law?
Make sure your brakes work when you are driving around that library.
Illegal Presence In The U.S. is a much stricter statute than illegal entry. Expedited removal is a big part of illegal presence procedure. Not sure why Cornell does not cover this.
my dad guarded nazis in the war. my uncles fought at battle of bulge. one was captured by the nazis. i interviewed them as a kid in the late 60s. i still remember their anecdotes and take aways. they didn’t seem as scarred as current amerikans are. and they for sure did not seem as scarred as the many jewish pals i grew up with in NYC whose parents had much of their families, were humiliated by being rounded up to their torture or death or walled off into ethnic ghettoes. i think the humiliation for hardly any resistance or society stopping it, was the worst part, in extensive discussions with them.
Towards the end the Nazis ran away from the Russian front, to the west.
of course. the nazis dad guarded were jacked up to be working on the farm. fed, played poker, smoked cigarettes, and had beer the amerikan guards. sounds like heaven compared to eastern front. it was.
That the current government had to threaten American Universities so that they stop anti-Semitism in the campuses, speaks volumes of the current state of affairs.
hogwash
news flash. southern border has been wide open for 400 years. in fact the border has changed over the centuries. many of the years folks come for jobs. someone’s hiring them. many of the years folks come and go back and come again………live on the border. employ people in construction. learn some history. this whole argument is quite silly really. sure there are guys like Ike or Trump that do ethnic sweeps back. same with obama and biden. amerika was scared after 9.11. i suspect this hissy fit will settle down in a few years. and yes reconquista was real in spain and is real in SW usa. whether it works or not is to be determined. in SW mexicans and native born anglos and chicanos have been mating for decades. make that centuries. i have extended family in AZ and NM that goes back almost 500 years to spanish crown. watch “baron of AZ” for a good laugh at a real event. boris karloff. you won’t be disappointed. on criterion i believe.
Maybe, but it doesn’t mean they need paychecks just because they happened to sneak across the border unlike real, legal immigrants.
never said that, nor implied that. read some history. most immigrants into usa since the revolution and founding, from UK, did not have papers.
We’re seriously aren’t talking historical justification, but real world consequences.
If you have a boat that holds 10, and you have 6, you have room for 4 more. Bring in another 10, and you all drown.
your nursery school math is devoid of any real world wisdom.
The fallout from this is, “Welcome to California, The Self Service State.” I took the car to get it washed – no Mexicans, a few hapless Gringo kids – pick your own vegitables, clean your own toilet, and make your own hotel bed. No Mexicans, no work gets done in CA – especially here in San Diego on the border. The fact is, like it or not, Mexican labor does most of the work around here. Just saying – deport the criminals, but if they are working hard in the fields, maybe find a way to keep them here.
Maybe there will be a rush for jobs by the former students who are going to need cash to start paying back their college loans.
bully bully
You DO know about the existence of work visas, right moron??? They can come here, pick your shitty vegetables and then go home without voting or pilfering food stamps, you know.
How many work visas is Trump granting? To construction companies? Hotels? Anything right now?
The ox and plow worked fine 6000 years ago.
the tractor was despised more than self driving cars or even immigrants when it first showed up.
meh I recall going to a Hungarian national patriot day party at an old folks home some yrs back in FL There were a lot of old Canadian emigrees from Hungry there and a number of Hungarian flags
I personally don’t care what flags they wave, wear or burn. Unsure why I should care.
No, we do not. Replace them all with automation or robots. No loss for us.
As for morals and as I posted in the earlier piece where you used the same quoted piece above:
YOUR morals don’t necessarily match with the morals of a majority of others. Sorry…
“…Much of the above applies except physical torture.” How do you know?
If you are saying ICE might be torturing people, then I agree that I am making assumption – a general one – that they aren’t.
But if there was much of it happening, there would be reports, and lots of them.
If illegals were waving Mexican flags, it’s bad. However, if second/third generation Mexican-Americans did, it’s worse.
The fracturing of the country leads to insecurity, which leads to economic decline.
Tariffs, especially the stupid ones should be put on the back burner, until the historic immigration mess is sorted out.
The winner will be demographics, that will sort it all out.
like the germans did. and the irish…….
The irony here is that there will only be three group moving forward based on the current demographic paradigm: Middle east, Indian, Africans.
Everyone else is in a depletion spiral and not sure it can be remedied.
Yves @ Naked Capitalism blog had an article today about having more sex.
In the meantime I’d avoid large downtown areas anywhere in the country this weekend. If I know their usual tactics, it’ll be massive and with US flags this time (same people). They actually think they’re winning.
OK, kids. Let’s poll Mexican flag waving protestors to see if they are citizens or not. That’s the ticket.
I believe that a large majority of American citizens in general support legal immigration. I also believe the past Democrat Administration wrongfully gutted enforcement and strategically changed policies to greatly overwhelm the systems and officially imported millions of migrants and located them strategically in States, while Blue cities and Towns adopted sanctuary city status to protect them. I believe that a large majority of American citizens in general DO NOT support this flooding of our Nation with unvetted, and improperly documented migrants – with benefits of education, health and welfare provided at taxpayer expense.
Making an issue out of waving the Mexican flag is so pathetic. It’s pride in nationality, not hate of the u.s. pushing it as su h is a deliberate attempt to blacken the protesters who are being profiled by name and appearance by the ICE thugs. They are not folo the law by raiding homes and jobs and basically kidnapping people. All tge wannabe dictator trump needs to do is pull ICE out of California. Not throw gas on the fire.of course he never was too bright.
Rounding up illegals is not kidnapping. It’s law enforcement. If you’re here beyond 30 days, you are a legit federal criminal. They have due process with an immigration officer, and if they can’t prove they here legally, bye-bye.
Federal law, fast track deportation.
Not kidnapping.
Shhh! You’re going to break Mishes logic bubble.
No! and I am sick of this bullshit.
Being here is not a “crime” it is a civil infraction.
Ironically, if it was a crime, then ICE could not take Gestapo-like actions.
https://mishtalk.com/economics/maga-cheers-the-gestapo-tactics-that-sparked-the-la-riots/
“The primary consequence of being undocumented is facing removal (deportation) proceedings, which are handled by the Department of Homeland Security. This process is civil, meaning it’s not a criminal trial with potential for imprisonment.”
Meaning — even if legally interpreted as a civil infraction — the US federal govt has the right to deport someone if they are here illegally. People shouldn’t conflate the idea of “civil infraction” as stripping the US govt of the ability to grab someone off the street and deport them.
Also, remember that famous quote “The US Constitution is not a suicide pact”
Did you catch Denninger on with The Chief yesterday? Stocks & Jocks podcast, first half hour, they’re recorded so you can go back. The Chief wants free (government) healthcare for all of the poor migrants. Denninger wasn’t having it. The Chief then asked Denninger, “who was going to pick up and bury all the dead bodies lying in the streets?” That show is always a hilarious way to start my day. Pretty sure The Chief is talking his book, meaning for his north side / north shore clientele.
All due respect, Mish, it’s 8 U.S.C. § 1325, and for a vast number of those in the past 4 years, is a federal crime.
Have you read it?
here is the complete law
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325
The first paragraph is a real hoot.
Where do you see the word “crime”?
I see the words “civil penalty” and fine.
Also this adjustment is a hoot.
https://www.justice.gov/archives/jm/criminal-resource-manual-1911-8-usc-1325-unlawful-entry-failure-depart-fleeing-immigration
I have, and this is from a staunch immigrant legal firm saying these situations are a federal crime, not civil, and are pushing for a change to the laws:
https://immigrantjustice.org/issues/decriminalize-immigration/
You’re splitting hairs and honestly, a majority of people don’t care. We want all people here illegally, whether they have committed REAL criminal acts or minor criminal acts, such as entering the country illegally, deported. [shrug]
Hopefully, Trump will make a significant reduction in the number of illegal aliens here, whether they be criminals, nannies, gardeners day laborers or anything else.
And don’t forget, Obama, also known as the ‘Deporter in Chief’, deported 5.5 million illegals. Trump is only at about 160k. He still has 5 million more to go to catch up to Obama.
Give them free tickets to the upper deck at Sox park.
I think one of the main concerns is lack of due process. Currently people are being deported,or hauled to a state far from where they live to a detention center without due process. Without due process it could be anyone, because how would you prove you’re not illegal without it?
Irony of ironies . . . the people who have the easiest time proving this (if given the opportunity) are legal residents (Green Card & visa holders) who -in theory- just have to show their papers to the ICE officer who then can check it against the database (using their alien registration number) . . . US citizens on the other hand … well who carries their passport, birth certificate or naturalization certificate … … … and birth certificates are pretty easy to forge and not easily checked as the data backing those might be on the other end of the country …
Only Al Gore can get the ice out of California.
If you want to be Mexican, move to Mexico. Trump is only deporting illegal alien criminals, at this time.
“Trump is only deporting illegal alien criminals, at this time.”
False. Being here is a civil illegality not a crime.
Ironically, that is what allows Trump to get away with Gestapo-like actions.
https://mishtalk.com/economics/maga-cheers-the-gestapo-tactics-that-sparked-the-la-riots/
Man your living under a rock if you believe that dumb stuff you wrote there. The lead story in the national media for like a full week was a legal resident getting sent to a El Salvador concentration camp. There are daily accounts of numerous similar stories.
Wonder what would happen if they all showed up in Greenland?
Yeah, since my dad was British I drive around with a Union Jack in my trunk to wave at protests. The question is where did these flags come from? I suspect some political party gamesmanship, probably Republican aligned, somebody with a sense of humor. Adds a new dimension to false flag.
Personally, as a LA resident I’d like to see LA mayor Bass recalled for waiting 4 days to get a curfew in place.
Short term PR win for Trump but long term political damage by alienating unions, being brutal to immigrants with racial overtones, and over-reaching executive branch authority.
Short term and long term PR loss for Cali Democratic politicians. They looked weak, ineffectual, and like they were siding with the rioters and looters not to mention flouting Federal law.
The only alienated union is SEIU. They only matter in Nevada.
You’re right but it’s still an idiotic thing to do and i shake my head at these idiots who are undermining their own cause.
I mean, what’s the logic of flying a Mexican flag in a protest trying to STOP people from being deported FROM the US TO Mexico?? it’s dumb, and the optics literally could not be worse.
for a while i was worried Dems reached the pinnacle of political stupidity/suicide after “defund the police” became a slogan. My fears were overblown.
I agree. I lived and worked legally in South Korea and China for around 15 years of my adult life and there’s no way I’d fly the American flag in either country for any reason, but especially if I had overstayed my visa or, god forbid, entered those countries illegally. It doesn’t make sense and it’s not a good look.
Who Has Been Spending Enormous Amounts Of Money To Equip The Protesters In Los Angeles With Brand New Riot Gear?
http://www.silverbearcafe.com/private/06.25/riotgear.html
Waving a Mexican flag at a protest as an American citizen shows how low IQ these people really are.
I would tend to agree because it is counterproductive. The goon squad led by Trump is proposing unconstitutional actions in response.
And the pack of howling hyenas has fresh red meat. This is exactly the response Miller wanted.
Miller is sharp. It’s also a commercial playing south of the border for “don’t go north”.
It’s interesting that you included that cartoon showing Palantir as a trojan horse.
There’s plausible “conspiracy theory” chatter that the ICE protests are going to be used as an excuse for curbing civil liberties while increasing surveillance of Americans.
The real issue that scares the elites into surveilling the population is potential social unrest over economic issues. Immigration serves as a diversion tactic, but if people start protesting en masse over something like Medicaid cuts, that’s when they actually get scared.
could you identify the right wing news organizations you mentioned in your article. I am not aware of many. is justthenews, the center square, Federalists in that group?
Trump vows consequences for ‘animals’ burning American flags in LA, slams those waving other countries’ flags
President floats one-year jail sentences for L.A. rioters burning American flags: ‘Automatic’

I think you don’t know how the Gestapo really operated. The Gestapo would grab you, take you to wherever they wanted, torture you tell you give them everything and then put a bullet in the back of your head. If you were lucky after torturing you they just might send you to a concentration camp like Dachau where you would probably die anyway. You make them sound like they were cops following orders. They were not. My wife’s family as many in Europe have direct experience with them. Comparing ICE to the Gestapo is hideous. You have really gone down the rabbit hole in this one. You don’t know what you are talking about.
Believe what the F you want.
I did not say ICE was Gestapo
I said they used Gestapo tactics. And I listed them. And you are a fool if you don’t see that is happening.
In this case ICE grabs you, takes you to wherever the F they want, typically to another state (illegal under criminal law), does not let you talk to a lawyer and can hold you for months without anyone even knowing where you are.
But that is not “Gestapo” in your blind eyes because they are not tortured.
Get a grip on reality.
No they are not Gestapo tactics. As I said you do not know what you are talking about in this. It is not me “believing” what I want but people who have spent their lives studying the Gestapo say about how they operated. I see what is happening all right. You have a problem seeing straight if you think those who you are allying yourself with care about your Libertarian principles. They are the antithesis of them.
Mish actually laid out out point by point, whereas you’re not making any argument whatsoever.
You want a list of books and articles on the Gestapo or what?
This seems like an unwarranted and overly hot-headed response to to a poster from the blog-owner to me. I’ve noticed this at other times as well and it sours me to this site. Do whatever you want – I know it’s your blog – but I’m increasingly inclined to skip this site. In truth one of the only reasons is to be able to comment and discuss without one more login request. I know your response will likely be some flavor ‘who needs you anyway’ – that’s fine. Good luck to you.
Bye! Bye! Corvinus. I suspect you’ll show up reincarnated as some other username with the same commentary.
There’s always got to be one and I guess it’s you. No. If I post again it will be under the same moniker. But that is unlikely at this point – particularly given the somewhat expected, needlessly ‘cranky-old-man’ response from the blog owner. Nothing of value will be lost anyway.
They did that in the old Mummy movies.
Then leave.
Alternatively, if you don’t like comments on hot then don’t read them.
Because I am damn tired of the same stupid arguments I have already rebutted.
Most sites would not permit the shit I put up with.
Done.
For profanity nobody beats Chris Irons, the Quoth The Ravin guy. I’d have a Yuengling with him anytime except in Philadelphia.
Offended the taco gestapo 😅
The “Trump Always Chickens Out” appellation (which fits) negates the idea of Trump being a dictator.
No it doesn’t… dictators do all kinds of stupid stuff, like negotiate tariffs and end up with a worse deal than they started with (China)
What about cheap postcard painters?
Having family members who were in the Schutzstaffel back in Germany, you have no idea what you’re talking about, by comparing ICE tactics to the Gestapo. We have a process for how we incarcerate people who are found to be illegally in the country, go through do process, and are deported. You should talk to my mother, who grew up in Germany during WWII, and ask her what would have occurred if you were taken away back then. You comparing them to now is an insult to the people who grew up during WWII. Asshole!!!
I lost a branch of my family to the Nazis in France. Nobody is impressed by your fascist family history and it certainly doesn’t give you a leg to stand on like you seem to think it does. The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree apparently.
If your mom was an SS dominatrix that took people away, why would she be insulted by Mish?
I don’t agree with the “gestapo” characterization, but your last word was unnecessary and rude.
Yeah, especially since Ricky said his family was the SS rather than the ones being smacked around by the SS.
Mish, compared to the Italian and Greek anti-riot forces (developed for political and soccer riots), ICE is nothing compared to them.
In the 80s and 90s in Athens they were beating even unarmed retiree protesters without mercy. Even in my little town (Heraklion) the entire downtown air was at times full of tear gas, and I had been the victim once while going to work – an entire elementary school was evacuated that day when the Gvt forces threw tear gas in the school yard.
They had been established by socialist Andreas Papandreou, after the Gvt suspected that anarchists in collaboration with American-based groups (some said the CIA) were trying to destabilize the government.
As Yoda said once “you still have a lot to learn”.
You are correct these are Mishs words . Your views are likely tainted by your politics.
Of course his views are not tainted by his politics just the ones who disagree with him These thugs, rioters what ever you want to call them wear masks to conceal their identities so they can brake laws and not be identified . Stopping traffic then damaging cars, threatening the people in these vehicles and impeding their freedom of movement . If you get out of your car you risk bodily injury possible death when the Mob attacks you. If you run them over the liberals will try and put you away for life this is what it has come to . However this blog is worried about Abrego Garcia rights. This is the same show in Dem cities protests and riots supported by the Dems , Antifa financed by them same group that would love to cause as much damage as possible supported by the Dems . Bass and Newsome said the protest were peaceful when anyone could see they weren’t lied then declared a state of emergency and implemented a curfew what liars they are
The fact of the matter is that it is not a crime to wear a mask, it is unconstitutional and stupid to support such a law.
And importantly I want all people doing illegal actions to be arrested, and that includes blocking traffic.
Yes I worry about peoples rights being violated, only morons don’t.
For Christ’s sake Team Trump admitted they incorrectly deported someone and fools like you don’t give a damn.
Yes, I worry about rights, even yours.
This is the Taco Gestapo bro, they’re similar, not identical. And the Germans didn’t jump straight to murder and torture. It took a couple years. If you think this stuff were seeing is kosher in America, you’re an imbecile.
No they didn’t. They used murder and torture from the beginning.
Yes they operated like the latin gangs running LA.
1) Instructions are being given to the “troops” to start showing US flags for the optics. Various YT videos are showing those posts.
2) A theory called “Reconquista” is circulating, and some say strengthened by Mexico’s president-elect remarks. According to this, Mexico is re-taking California and the Southwest through demographics and de-stabilization.
3) Most Mexico flag protesters are not working immigrants. But it shows how much respect a lot of people have for this country… they are treating it like public toilet. Too much immigration turned the USA into a bus station, and now it’s been treated as such.
stop this nonsense with Reconquista. it’s completely idiotic and disturbing that anyone actually believes this nonsense. Mexoco taking California through demograhics GTFO.
You really have no grounds to counter the proposition, though. In reality, that’s what’s happening. Massive demographic imports without assimilation brings politics like this – bring Mexico to the US
White replacement theory, Nazi bullsh7t.
Nothing new about American racists threatened by every new wave of immigration. They hated the Irish, the Germans, the Italians, whatever. Different day same bs
Umm, what math and facts don’t matter to you? The fact some crazy white nationalists cry about it doesn’t make the underlying fact any less true. Guess it’s politics after the fact…
it is what spanish did in spain to the muslims and jews in 1492, after the moors had invaded. in southwest USA it’s a thing too. i’ve attended lectures on it. it’s quite open. the goals. perhaps not tomorrow, but perhaps in 5 or 50 years. it’s a real thing.
<<stop this nonsense with Reconquista. >>
It’s not my theory. I wasn’t aware of it before yesterday. Apparently it’s even in Wikipedia, with numerous references:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconquista_(Mexico)
The Mexicans themselves are the ones saying it. We’re just saying they’re saying it in videos like this one:

Probably folks originally from Mexico.
Or folks with family or friends in Mexico.
Or people with business interests (sic) and/or political interests in Mexico.
Or people that really really really like Mexico a lot.
Duh.
Probably not Russians or Ukrainians.
I would note that the flag-wavers are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Correct but not what idiots think nor as portrayed on Fox by some reports.
I don’t watch TV so I have no first-hand info.
You don’t watch TV? When people make statements like this I assume they mean reality TV, game shows, soap operas and other such drek
But do you watch major news channels like FOX, CNN, MSNBC, BBC News, etc. on the web then?
If no, then where are you developing the info you comment on in your blogs? We know you read the WSJ. Do you read other newspapers online?
Other than election coverage and debates, I watch about 15 hours of TV a YEAR, if that. I have not had TV on in this house since election eve.
Occasionally, I watch sports at a neighbor’s house, but typically that is while playing cards.
I subscribe to Bloomberg, the WSJ, the New York Times, Washington Post, and various free sources including the BLS, BEA, Atlanta Fed, Boston Fed, New York Fed, CATO, Carnegie, and the Committee for a Responsible Budget, off the top of my head.
I suspect I read more sources and more opinions Left, Right, and Libertarian, than any other blogger you can find.
I believe I spend more time answering emails and comments than any blogger.
I spend ~9 hours a day every 365 days a year on average, on this blog. I have written a post every day, and I do mean every day, since March of 2003. Christmas may be “Merry Christmas”, but it’s something. I can no longer prove that because my site has moved multiple time from the original GlobalEconomicAnalysis.Blogspot.Com
My wife calculated I make $3 an hour. I just did the math based on what I said. I make $5.70 an hour on ad revenue. In the great financial crisis I made tons more.
you are honest and smart and funny. and i believe you.
But you don’t have any commuting costs! [lol]
You make a great contribution even when we disagree.
TV news is for idiots. The information density is so low, how can you stand it? You can read 100x more information in the amount of time it takes to watch one stupid blurb on TV. And the reporting is generally stupid and aimed at the lowest common denominator.
I agree that network TV news is for idiots. It is a selection of 30 second to 1 minute sound bites tailored to their audience.
When you read reporting written by someone else or listen to PODcasts, then you are reading/listening to THEIR interpretation of whatever they are reporting on.
Watching on TV or 1st person recorded or live videos via sources like YouTube give yous an unfiltered view.
As with anything, it takes intelligence to filter what you see & hear.
In 1964 Marshall McLuhan proposed that a communication medium itself, not the messages it carries, should be the primary focus of study. TV should be “viewed” for the information that is selected to be presented, the manner of the presentation, the time the presentation occurs, etc. Not so much as what is being said, but who was selected to say it.
I fondly recall a time when there were editors and “reporters” that reported news. Now there are few unbiased editors given free reign (if any). We have “journalists” with opinions and not unbiased reportage. As my Czech friend told me two decades ago about Soviet Czechoslovakia: “You have news by reading between the lines, not so much by what is stated.”
