For the Good of the Nation, Biden Needs to Stay in the Race

This headline will have some people wondering what I am smoking. But hear me out.

Biden Has a Unique Quality

Assuming you are still reading, Biden’s unique quality is ability to lose to Trump. And that’s a good thing.

The US cannot afford another disastrous four years of this president. Everything Biden has done has been inflationary.

Energy policy. Check
Regulations. Check
Student Debt Cancellation. Check
Push for More Unions. Check
Push for More Child Tax Credits. Check
Tariff Policy. Check
Inflation Reduction Act: Check

Trump is on board with tariffs, but not the rest.

What’s Fixable and What’s Not?

If you are a Republican, you should want Biden to hang on, willing to take your chances on Trump beating him.

Trump would not be my choice for many reasons. At the top of the list, I am a free market, mind my own business Libertarian.

But there is no chance of changing the Republican end of the ticket. The saving grace for Biden is he may the one person Trump is most likely to beat.

Saving Democracy

Bill Maher: “The whole rationale for Biden running has always been I’m the only guy who can beat Trump. Now I think it’s inverted. He’s the only guy who can lose to him. I keep hearing all day from these Democrats we can’t abandon Joe Biden. What about me? I feel abandoned. I have nobody to vote for.”

Nate Silver – The Big Picture

That image is from Nate Silver’s post The Presidential Election Isn’t a Toss-Up.

It was on June 26, ahead of the debate. Please do not confuse Nate Silver with his old 538 site which ridiculously had Biden with a slight lead ahead of the debate.

Panic at the New York Times

NYT Editorial Board June 30: 48 Hours to Fix a 90-Minute Mess: Inside the Biden Camp’s Post-Debate Frenzy

The all-hands efforts, from Wilmington to Washington, showed the depths of the damage Mr. Biden did to his re-election campaign in a mere 90 minutes. His campaign has been criticized as insular and insistent, so the burst of activity signaled that the debate fallout had turned into a real crisis that spun those in his orbit into a frantic battle mode.

NYT Maureen Dowd June 29: The Ghastly vs. the Ghostly

He’s being selfish. He’s putting himself ahead of the country. He’s surrounded by opportunistic enablers. He has created a reality distortion field where we’re told not to believe what we’ve plainly seen. His hubris is infuriating. He says he’s doing this for us, but he’s really doing it for himself. I’m not talking about Donald Trump. I’m talking about the other president.

In Washington, people often become what they start out scorning. This has happened to Joe Biden. In his misguided quest for a second term that would end when he’s 86, he has succumbed to behavior redolent of Trump.

For years I have stated that Biden’s arrogance and Hubris is every bit as awful as Trump’s but the only real difference is Biden was more polite about it.

It’s great to see a NYT columnist make the same point.

Biden Challenges Trump to Golf in the Debate

One Person Worse than Biden

NYT: To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race

The New York Times editorial board says To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race

I strongly disagree.

To serve the nation, Biden needs to hang on to the bitter end, losing to Trump.

The country may not like Trump for many reasons. But economically speaking, Biden has been an absolute disaster.

Even worse, and despite the denials, Governor Gavin Newsom is likely on deck.

Newsom is one person guaranteed to be worse than Biden. Here’s the key question: What are the odds Trump could beat Newsom?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to find out.

Ironically, to serve the nation, Biden needs to hang on. It may be the only thing in four years he will have done right.

Mish, Your article conflates with what is good for the country with what is good for the GOP. The last time I checked Trump had high unfavorable ratings with most voters.

Neither candidate is good for the country. Trump is a megalomaniac with daddy issues, a misogynist, serial lier, three times at least failed businessperson, a wannabe dictator that will get us more involved in the Middle East siding the genocidal Israel. His proposed tax cuts will only worsen the deficit and his likely increasing the military spending will only further exacerbate the lack of R&D and capital spending in the private and public sectors as well as domestic spending for education, etc.

This country is headed to its own demise.

As Pogo said, “We have met the enemy and he is us”.

Mish, Thx for responding. Three more comments :

  1. In my mid 20s, Reagan and Carter were contesting for the presidency. I voted for Anderson but I digress from my point. My accounting teacher came into class and one of the students asked the next day after Reagan won, “What do you think?” He responded, I am not disappointed.” His statement mirrors what you wrote in your missive. As in ‘80, for me today in’24 there are two major party candidates that I can’t support.
  2. Seymour Hersch -one of the best investigative journalists out there – wrote an excellent column why Biden should resign for the good of the country if his sources are correct. I would suggest you read it. https://seymourhersh.substack.com/p/who-is-running-the-country. Biden needs to resign for the good of the country.
  3. I hope for the country’s sake what I am about to write I am wrong. If Trump gets elected again, the boorish, petulant, ass-clown behaviors will continue. The man does not have a strategic bone in his body and except for his excellent marketing skills, he doesn’t have any political skills to lead this country out of the morass it is in. He will only further divide this country leading to a deeper recession, a quicker collapsing of empire, loss of allies, and a possible collapse of the nation’s institutions. And if the recession gets worst the US may experience aGreat Recession II or worst. In a multipolar world and loss of allies, Trump will come to rely more on military adventures to deflect attention from the nation’s domestic conflagrations. This will prove disastrous since Trump the non interventionist will lash out and likely stumble into another war in Asia or the Middle East. Trump does not have the leadership or the temperament to guide this nation out of an economic meltdown nor a war.

Nawfal: “How can the Democratic Party be about democracy when their entire vetting, nomination, and delegate system feels so autocratic?”

Democrats aren’t about democracy. Newsom got the direct democracy Tax Payer Protection Act removed from the California November ballot. The impeachment of Trump was an attack on democracy. A legal phone call is not an impeachable offense. It was election interference.

If Newsome actually winds up being the Democratic nominee, what are the odds that he fails to carry his home state in the general election?

It is very difficult to get to 270 electoral votes if you do not get California’s 54.

And the powers-that-be may be assuming that Newsome is a shoe-in to win California’s 54 electoral votes. But is he really?

It just came out that the Biden administration pressured the FDA to rush approval of Comirnaty, so that with licensing, it could be mandated. It also came out recently from a South Korean Study, that the shot doubles the risk of dementia. That’s why it takes 7-10 years to get approval of actual vaccines. The mRNA RSV was approved after 1 study and the advisory committee was bypassed.

One of the best “Biden must go” columns I have read!

This Isn’t All Joe Biden’s Fault

June 30, 2024

By Ezra Klein

On Thursday night, after the first presidential debate, MSNBC’s Alex Wagner interviewed Gov. Gavin Newsom of California. “You were out there getting a chorus of questions about whether Biden should step down,” she said. “There is a panic that has set in.”

Newsom’s reply was dismissive. “We gotta have the back of this president,” he said. “You don’t turn your back because of one performance. What kind of party does that?”

Perhaps a party that wants to win? Or a party that wants to nominate a candidate that the American people believe is up to the job? Maybe the better question is: What kind of party would do nothing right now?

In February, I argued that President Biden should step aside in the 2024 election and Democrats should do what political parties did in presidential elections until the 1970s: choose a ticket at their convention. In public, the backlash I got from top Democrats was fierce. I was a bed-wetter living in an Aaron Sorkin fantasyland.

In private, the feedback was more thoughtful and frightened. No one tried to convince me that Biden was a strong candidate. They argued instead that he couldn’t be persuaded to step aside, that even if he could, Vice President Kamala Harris would lose the election and that if a convention didn’t choose Harris, passing her over would fracture the party. They argued not that Biden was strong but that the Democratic Party was weak.

Dems put themselves into a Box Canyon of Radical Progressiveness.
Drove out Manchin and Gabbard. Years ago drove out Joe Lieberman. Have been having rank and file moderates abandon them as they could not take the crap any longer.
One of the few Real people they still have are like Andrew Cuomo who is a sleeze on the side.
They fully backed a walking Cadaver which now blew up in their face, and they are as consequence in a panic. This situation has been building for decades.
If you abandon your core principles and opt to go off the Cliff with Hollywood then you lose America. Not being able to tell Fantasy from real life is now smacking them hard in the Face.
There still remains a possible quicky reversal and bring back Kennedy. Since they waited for the inevitable self destruct explosion which just occurred to make amends, is there enough electorate left that believes Dems are capable to Govern?

The Democratic leadership wanted Biden because the donor base wanted a safe choice to contest against Trump. Biden had been on the plutocrats payroll for years.Sanders had Big Mo going into South Carolina when James Clyburn almost single handily turned the primary into victory for Biden. The candidates got the memo next day and almost to a person conceded the nomination to Biden leaving Sanders the only remaining candidate. The donors all rallied to Biden and Sanders IMHO also got the memo, stating to contest but lose and you will get a chairmanship of a committee so Bernie sold out too.

Manchin is a shill for the neoliberal order.

Joe Lieberman was another bribe taker that would jump ship from the Democratic Party without getting a quid pro quo from McCain. Another mental midget in the senate.

Biden’s debate performance was unacceptable, but Trump’s debate performance was despicable. He lied whenever he opened his mouth. Compared with Trump, Hugo Chavez was a paragon of truth. Only a Banana republic would find a serial liar like Trump acceptable for high office. But this is where we are now: Headed for full Banana republic status. The whole world is laughing (and soon crying) about us.

The Great Cholesterol Scam and The Dangers of StatinsExploring the Actual Causes and Treatments of Heart Disease
Story at a Glance:

•There is a widespread belief that elevated cholesterol is the “cause” of cardiovascular disease. However, a large body of evidence shows that there is no association between the two and that lower cholesterol significantly increases one’s risk of death.

•An alternative model (which the medical industry buried) proposes that the blood clots the body uses to heal arterial damage, once healed, create the characteristic atherosclerotic lesions associated with heart disease. The evidence for this model, in turn, is much stronger than the cholesterol hypothesis and provides many important insights for treating heart disease.

•The primary approach to treating heart disease is to prescribe cholesterol lowering statin drugs (to the point, over a trillion dollars have now been spent on them). Unfortunately, the benefits of these highly toxic drugs are minuscule (e.g., at best taking them for years extends your life by a few days) and the harms are vast (statins are one of the most common pharmaceuticals that severely injure patients).

•In this article we will explore the specific injuries caused by statin drugs, the forgotten causes of cardiovascular disease, and our preferred treatments for heart and vascular diseases.

High Cholesterol is but a possible symptom of a health issue, not the cause. Same as a high antibody count is a symptom of an infection and not the cause. Statins make as much sense to lower cholesterol as taking drugs to reduce your antibody levels.

There is no sense in trying to stop people from taking vaccines and consuming processed foods. Hire a bus and offer to drive them to the clinic to be injected with more Fat Juice Boosters. Applaud as the dumb beasts stuff KFC and Big Gulps down their insatiable maws – because it is for the greater good. You benefit from this. Celebrate their obesity! Join cnnbbc and Sports Illustrated in promoting obesity!

What you can do, if you care to, so as to be one of the 90+ year old ‘useless eaters’ is adopt a healthy lifestyle. Eat whole foods, ideally organic. Avoid processed foods, seed oils and sugar. Take vitamin supplements. Minimize alcohol consumption and do not smoke. Exercise. Reject all vaccines.

If Biden stays on the ticket … and wins, then we are stuck with Great Leap Forward government policy for another four years.

If Biden loses then the first question is “What lesson do Democrats draw?” My guess is that they will blame the candidate, not their own platform, and we will get someone like Gavin Newsom in 2028. To take one policy point, climate change, we will be past Greta Thunberg’s tipping point, but they will still push the same policies, because here in America the real issue is fossil and industrial pollution, not really climate change.

The second question, in due time, will be “What will be the issues and who will be the candidates in 2028?” The Democrats ought to be at a disadvantage, because they simultaneously advocate for a better life for ordinary lunchbox workers, and for a degrowth lower standard of living to save the planet. Some of them try to finesse that by attacking “inequality”.

Two comments for Mish and audience:

  1. While you don’t see Trump as “I am a free market, mind my own business Libertarian” I do by judging his actions, not his words. He forced the RINOs to pass the tax cut they promised but didn’t want to follow through. Secondly he deregulated extensively via EO. Third, he picks battles he has a chance to win, and there’s no chance he can get Congress to cut spending.
  2. Since Biden has dementia, he lives in the world that’s in his head which often isn’t reality. He believe he should be president, and all the BS the liberals have said about him when he wasn’t demented. You can’t argue or reason with someone with dementia. I don’t think even Jill can get him to drop out, or even wants him to drop out (the people running the show like their positions).

The Party picks the candidates (the politicians, the staff pollsters, PR spokesmen, speechwriters, consultants, and the big donors), and look what they picked: it shows their corruption that they’d pick him as a figurehead puppet while they secretly make the decisions and JB gets the blame.

If you follow the tape you’ll notice Biden flipped notes in front of him on the next page when asked about current Gaza war.

If Biden has shown us anything its that he doesn’t care about the good of the nation. All he cares about is the good of the Biden Family. Why else would he let his drugged up son be the bag man for an international influence peddling ring?

Joe might not be aware but Jill knows that the Biden’s are going to get paid when Joe to steps aside. And she is holding out for for the biggest Biden pay check ever. Ironically, the value of the Biden name is rocketing at the same time his presidency is crumbling. Once Joe is discarded, his family name will have the same value as Hunter’s best work of art – NOTHING.

She will name her price and Joe will remain president until she gets it. The longer he hangs on the bigger the pay day.

The dems have NO viable candidates to replace Biden anyway. Any who ever were, have abandoned the party long ago.

Let him stay. They can cancel the second debate if they want. They being the Democrats.

I’m also not fond of Trump any more. The debate was a joke with both of them sidestepping questions and all they had to say was “Muh America, muh military and muh exceptionalism.” Only the American fool, which is most, swallow this juice.

At least Trump spoke common sense wise about the border. The libtards still can’t figure that one out. Also, I’m hoping, that he would stop the war in Ukraine and not lead us to nuclear war. Obviously Biden has no idea what’s going on over there.

Lastly, both shill for Israel. Not sure who’s a bigger recipient of AIPAC, but they both are Israel first, America second. Disappointing.

Can Trump withdraw US support from Ukraine on his own, by edict? What if the Congress disagrees?

If Trump DOES manage to sever US support to Ukraine, then I believe that Europe will be forced to step up and make Ukraine an immediate NATO member followed by sending in NATO troops and weapons to battle Russia.

If this then turns into another full Europe war, then the US will have no choice but to join the fray, just as we did in WWII.

Trump will support Ukraine because he wants to be on the winning side. It’s as simple as that.

Trump will likely scale back money and equipment to Ukraine unless Europe increases theirs (similar to his NATO argument).

The question is will the rest of Europe increase their money and equipment to make up for US scaling back.

What makes you think Ukraine will defeat Russia? That’s one hell of an assumption!

Russia is the winning side. The longer it takes the Ukraine to unconditionally surrender the more territory and men they’ll lose. What the U.S. is doing now is cruel – like encouraging some drunk that he can take Mike Tyson.

Ukraine can’t win even with unlimited deliveries of arms and dollars. Russia is winning and is doing so without mobilising the bulk of its troops. Ukraine meanwhile started with a far smaller population of which a sizeable number have fled to both Russia and the West and now Ukraine is grabbing anybody who can fog a mirror off the streets to go to the front lines to be slaughtered. This year alone the death rate of Uke troops is double what the US lost in Vietnam and the year still has 6 months to run.
So why would Trump try to back a loser when those same limited arms stocks the US has would get a better customer in Israel?

Impossible to disagree with this rational argument. With the deterioration over the last four years, Trump must fight the easy battle.

Virtually any other candidate the Dems could pick (aside from the current VP) will be quicker, more coherent and credible than Biden.

As commander in chief of the Army at the moment (unlike Trump on Jan 6th), Biden and his boys will put down any uprising in any city by old, fat, ignored white guys with guns and lots of arrogance, who will quickly kow to a professional army who is dying to beat someone into submission.

Biden will stay in the race and possibly win because he is only a one-term prez so far. History considers one term prez’s (Carter, GB 1st) as failures. Every elected official in Washington has dreams of being president, and Biden is no exception. But without a second term, history will consider him a failure. And he cant win a second term if he doesnt run.

Even if Biden stays in and wins reelection as the “Weekend at Bernie’s” candidate, he won’t remain President for long artier inauguration. I’ve long believed that the plan for his legacy is to step aside, blaming health reasons, and elevate Harris to the presidency.

He will then be remembered as the President that made possible the first woman President and a half-black one to boot.

For anyone who actually thinks that Harris is competent, I suggest watching the following Daily Show sendup on Harris:

Meet the “Holistic Thought Advisor” Behind Kamala Harris’s Speeches | The Daily Show

The Daily Show

May 22, 2024

Meet Kamala Harris’s holistic thought advisor Dahlia Rose Hibiscus (Desi Lydic), who is deeply committed to helping the Vice President translate words into idea voyages. Hibiscus preaches the practice of speaking without thinking and encourages Harris to describe her journeys, molding our Vice President into a meditative guru.

History spoke at the debate. Biden is a failed president. The whole reason for this discussion is because Biden has failed. Most of us have seen this for years. Only the most loyal dems and the media couldn’t see it. Now they can’t unsee it.

We didnt want Biden in 2020 but we got him, and he isnt dying as fast as everyone thought he would … not to mention again the 5000 political appointees who REALLY run the US Govt ..

The only problem with it all is that every economic crisis happens under a Republican president for various reasons related to deregulation or mere incompetence. The last 3 recessions all started under a Republican president and were disastrous. Two were effectively economic crashes induced by bad Republican deregulation on multiple fronts (financial deregulation and throwing out the pandemic playbook that had been created by a Democratic predecessor). The third was a terrorist attack that was predicted and ignored by the President in his daily briefing one month before it happen.

Go ahead and keep hoping for a Republican president. You will get an economic disaster.

The best comment in the NYT article was by James Carville. I don’t really care for Carbville, but he is very astute in his assessment of presidential candidates.

On Saturday afternoon, the Biden team sent out a fund-raising solicitation from James Carville, the Democratic strategist who has repeatedly argued that Mr. Biden shouldn’t be the party’s nominee.
“What really just set me into orbit was the day after his excuse for not doing well is that he’s old. Well, that’s the whole point,” Mr. Carville said in an interview, adding an expletive. “It is safe to say there is a pushback, rally-around-the-flag moment here. But we’ll see.”

Agreed. My only fear is something terribly goes wrong internationally and he becomes a wartime president. This would be a difficult hurdle for DJT to overcome despite the Democrats and the Biden team being incapable, ineffective, and …feckless. no wartime president has ever lost a real election.

I don’t really think some massive international war is going to help him here. Americans feel everything spinning out of control and another war is just more chaos that would be laid at Bidens feet.

In this particular case I think this time really is different.

You are spot
on. Zelinsky already said -quote (we don’t have much time).
I believe
Zelinsky will create s small nuclear tactic bomb false flag just to draw NATO
in full war against Russia.
As Trump
said-Let’s hope we’ll not have a nuclear war before election!

There’s no chance that any member of the MAGA crowd would vote for Biden because he’s a wartime president. If Americans think Trump is the stronger leader, they would want him in charge during a war!
