Governor Cuomo Resigns, Offers Half-Baked Excuses No One Will Believe

Lawmakers in Albany, and D.C. have been calling for Cuomo’s exit amid investigations into inappropriate sexual behavior.

Today, Cuomo Resigned.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned Tuesday in the wake of a report that found he violated state and federal sexual-harassment laws, capping months of speculation

The report, issued in early August by New York Attorney General Letitia James, said Mr. Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, created a hostile work environment and retaliated against at least one former employee.

In a press conference Tuesday, Mr. Cuomo said the attorney general’s report and an impeachment probe had become a distraction.

Mr. Cuomo apologized to women who accused him of sexual harassment Tuesday, during his first public comments since an investigation found he sexually harassed at least 11 women.

Crossing the Line

In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone. But I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn,” said Cuomo.

What a hoot.

Attorney General Report on Sexual Harassment

Attorney General Letitia James filed this Report of Investigation Into Allegations of Sexual Harassment by Governor Cuomo (emphasis mine). The report is 168 pages long.

Executive Summary

We, the investigators appointed to conduct an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, conclude that the Governor engaged in conduct constituting sexual harassment under federal and New York State law. Specifically, we find that the Governor sexually harassed a number of current and former New York State employees by, among other things, engaging in unwelcome and nonconsensual touching, as well as making numerous offensive comments of a suggestive and sexual nature that created a hostile work environment for women.

Conclusion

Upon completion of our independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment brought against Governor Andrew Cuomo and the surrounding circumstances, we have reached the conclusion that the Governor sexually harassed a number of State employees through unwelcome and unwanted touching, as well as by making numerous offensive and sexually suggestive comments. We find that such conduct was part of a pattern of behavior that extended to his interactions with others outside of State government. We also find the Executive Chamber’s response to allegations of sexual harassment violated its internal policies and that the Executive Chamber’s response to one complainant’s allegations constituted unlawful retaliation. In addition, we conclude that the culture of fear and intimidation, the normalization of inappropriate comments and interactions, and the poor enforcement of the policies and safeguards, contributed to the sexual harassment, retaliation, and an overall hostile work environment in the Executive Chamber.

Nope, No Lines Crossed There, In Cuomo’s Mind

On August 3, I asked How Long Before NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Resigns or Is Impeached on Sex Charges?

On August 17, 2020, Cuomo gave a key speech at the Democratic National Convention. Supposedly, he was a rising star in the party.

Now key members of his own party have turned on Cuomo like rabid dogs chasing a rabbit.

One way or another Cuomo will be gone. He will resign in disgrace or be impeached and removed.

I suspect a Richard Nixon play. Look for Cuomo to resign.

Today Cuomo resigned but not because of a “distraction” he cited. Rather Cuomo resigned because it was clear he would be impeached and removed from office if he didn’t.

But politicians never cross lines, at least in their own twisted, if not outright perverted minds.

I’d say good riddance, except his Democratic successor — probably NY AG Letitia James — might be worse.

Such amazing incompetence from the Democrats.  They thought #metoo was going to be a huge wedge issue for them and they’ve only succeeded in weaponizing it against themselves.  They don’t need to worry about Republicans doing them in with voting restrictions when they’re perfectly capable of self destructing on their own.

At least he had the decency to resign, unlike that former guy who was credibly accused of 10 times worse behavior.

What a difference a week makes.  Do you think he found a mote of decency or, perhaps more likely, the advisers concluded that the situation was untenable?
“New
York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo faced mounting criminal inquiries Wednesday
and momentum grew in the state legislature to impeach him in the wake of
an explosive report by the state attorney general that found he sexually harassed 11 women in violation of state and federal law.

Ensconced
in his Albany mansion, Cuomo remained defiant and declined to resign,
assessing with advisers whether there is a path for his political
survival, according to people familiar with the conversations. His
attorney has called the report “inaccurate” and “biased.”

Any man in a position of power must be aware of the consequences for treating women badly. It comes with the job and you have to be mindful of what you do. Cuomo got away with a lot not because he was stupid but because he felt he could get a way with it. His saying that it was because of mores having changed is total bullsh_t.  I remember how he treated Kavanaugh. Cuomo gets what he deserves.

Is this the same guy that received the  2020 International Emmy Founders Award for his daily briefings on handling the pandemic ???
I find the timing off  these actions to be suspect . Somethings up  and on deck , things don’t happen in a vacuum.  De blasio is gloating .  I here some scuttlebutt that the NY AG is gunning for the job.  Oh and on the west coast we have Gavin .  Coast to coast regime change ?

He is an excellent actor in the Harvey Weinstein tradition. He deserves the Emmy.

Note that he did not actually resign.  He said that he would resign in 14 days.  Gives him two more weeks to weasel his way out of this one.
Even so, i never thought that the Emperor would leave voluntarily

It wasn’t voluntary.
Once his own Party both inside and outside the state were telling him to go, the implicit message is “or else.”  NY Democrats have the power to impeach him.

Half-baked? I’d call it very carefully scripted and on point. And politically fairly savvy.
I’m sure the Woke crowd will call it arrogant and insufficient on groveling, and many, many conservatives (like yourself) are just happy to see a nosebleed progressive self-immolate, no matter why it happened.
It’s definitely a sign of the times, and I expect Democrats to do more along the same lines, while Republicans continue to laugh all the way to the polls. Democrats will continue to nominate very poor candidates, and this is part of that. Gotta be Woke now.
I expect Cuomo to be indicted, and sued in civil court. Collecting damages might not make up for something like rape…but I’m sure it can go a long way toward making up for a few pats on the butt here and there. Let’s see if any of the plaintiffs donates their haul to charity, or the DNC.
