I watch in amusement as Republican presidential candidates increasingly sound like Trump.
“He’d Be Very Good”: Trump Endorses Indian-origin Vivek Ramaswamy As Possible U.S. Vice President
GOP Candidates All Talk Tough on Trade
The Wall Street Journal reports Following Donald Trump, GOP Candidates Talk Tough on Trade
Candidates for the 2024 GOP presidential nod, including front-runner Trump, are pushing for more protectionist stances, especially toward China. They are calling for ending permanent normal trade relations with China—restricting the rights of U.S. businesses to expand there—and for boosting domestic manufacturing, even through government subsidies, something the Biden administration also has championed.
Trump’s latest proposals go beyond China, calling for a universal baseline tariff on U.S. imports, perhaps 10%, that would increase on countries that “manipulate their currency or otherwise engage in unfair trading practices.” He has renewed a call for Congress to give the president authority to counter any country that imposes a higher tariff on American-made goods.
“The protectionist sentiment that is growing within some parts of the Republican Party is a dangerous precedent,” said Myron Brilliant, senior counselor with Dentons Global Advisors and former head of international affairs for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “This notion that you can strengthen our competitiveness without strengthening our economic links abroad is a fallacy. You have to do both.”
President Biden has largely continued Trump’s China tariffs—and no Republican candidate is advocating removing them—and enacted an ambitious industrial policy, using extensive subsidies to revive semiconductor manufacturing and promote clean-energy technologies.
“At the end of the day they have a lot of economic leverage over us. And that is not good for our national security,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in an interview. “The whole trading arrangement we have now, there’s just a massive lack of reciprocity.”
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, another candidate for president, has called China “the biggest threat we’ve had since Pearl Harbor” and has said she would push U.S. businesses to leave the country.
No Difference Between Republicans and Democrats
When it comes to free trade, no candidate is in the ballpark. Moreover, Trump’s policies and Biden’s are roughly the same.
Can I have a Show of Hands?
Debate Question: “If former president Trump is convicted in a court of law, would you still support him as your party’s choice?
What a flock of sheep.
Vivek Ramaswamy immediately raised his hand. DeSantis looked left and right then raised his hand. Chris Christie could not make up his mind, then followed the pack, then tried to take it back. Only Pence stood still.
Vivek Ramaswamy said the first thing he would do is pardon Trump. Praise Trump and he will like you.
I said long ago that Ramaswamy was running for VP.
This increasingly looks like the right take. Meanwhile, the other candidates are melting into similar positions.
Bombing Mexico
Using military force on cartels without Mexico’s permission “would not be the preferred option, but we would absolutely be willing to do it,” entrepreneur and conservative activist Vivek Ramaswamy said in an interview.
To stop the drug trade, NY magazine reported Trump Wanted to Fire Rockets Into Mexico and Pretend Like the U.S. Didn’t Do It.
Politico reports GOP Embraces a New Foreign Policy: Bomb Mexico to Stop Fentanyl.
Constitutionally, Congress, not the president gets to declare war. Article I, Section 8, Clause 11: [The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To declare War,
Bombing or sending US troops to Mexico is a belligerent act of war that constitutionally requires such a declaration.
But here we are causally proposing bombing or sending troops to Mexico without Mexico’s permission.
Guess what? DeSantis having looked at what others are saying, just joined the bomb Mexico parade.
Politico reports DeSantis: I’d strike drug cartels in Mexico ‘on day one’
Overlooked in the horse-race talk of the Republican presidential debate Wednesday is that a candidate vowed to attack drug cartels inside Mexico — on his first day in office, no less.
Asked by Fox News’ MARTHA MacCALLUM if he would support sending U.S. special forces over the border to take out fentanyl labs and disrupt cartel operations, Florida Gov. RON DeSANTIS replied: “Yes, and I will do it on day one.”
We asked campaign spokesperson JOSE OLIVA to confirm that DeSantis wants American troops to enter Mexico on Inauguration Day. He said “no” and that talk of timing was “semantic.”
The “bomb Mexico” idea has been embraced by some in the GOP, and DeSantis just gave it its largest platform yet. He’s actively fundraising off the proposal, including selling t-shirts about leaving Mexican drug lords “STONE COLD DEAD.”
Reflections on Mainstream Politics
Rep. MIKE WALTZ (R-Fla.), a DONALD TRUMP supporter who introduced an authorization for the use of military force to target cartels, told us “it’s good to see other candidates getting on board and the idea getting more mainstream within the Republican Party.”
Trump, bombing Mexico, and the end of any semblance of free trade are now allegedly mainstream.
Trump Is Top Choice for Nearly 60% of GOP Voters, WSJ Poll Shows

Support for wishy-washy DeSantis has collapsed.
Please consider Trump Is Top Choice for Nearly 60% of GOP Voters, WSJ Poll Shows
The new survey finds that what was once a two-man race for the nomination has collapsed into a lopsided contest in which Trump, for now, has no formidable challenger. The former president is the top choice of 59% of GOP primary voters, up 11 percentage points since April, when the Journal tested a slightly different field of potential and declared candidates.
Trump’s lead over his top rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has nearly doubled since April to 46 percentage points. At 13% support, DeSantis is barely ahead of the rest of the field, none of whom has broken out of single-digit support.
48%, said the indictments made them more likely to vote for Trump in 2024, while 16% said they made them less likely to support him for a second term.
The survey also found Trump running about dead-even with President Biden among voters overall in a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 election, with low interest among voters for two third-party candidates. Trump had 40% support to 39% for Biden, with potential Green Party and Libertarian candidates drawing a combined 3%. A significant share—some 17%—were undecided.
In a head-to-head test that excluded other candidates, Trump and Biden were tied, with 46% each and 8% undecided.
Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Michael Bocian, said it was shocking that a potential general election rematch between the last president and the current one is polling this closely, given Trump’s indictments.
“When we talk about how twisted and bent reality has become, that’s a really good example of it, because if, in fact, this were any other time and place, this race would not be happening this way,” said Fabrizio, who also works for a super PAC supporting Trump’s candidacy.
Imitations Need Not Apply
If your positions are largely indistinguishable from Trump’s, why not go with the real deal?
That’s what voters seem to have decided.

Mike is a good name but unfortunately my brain was on autopilot and I used “Mish” without fully editing my response. Please accept my apologies.
Mish is an excellent writer when it comes to business and economy but I’m disappointed in this take on current politics in the U.S. First let me say I’m amazed a man of his intelligence quoted this: “Constitutionally, Congress, not the president gets to declare war. Article I, Section 8, Clause 11: [The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To declare War,” Anyone that does any reading knows the records of U.S. Presidents when it comes to this clause. They have ignored it over and over because the American Congress also prefers to ignore it. That said, it is a wonderful clause and the writers of our constitution were trying to protect the public from despots that had been a common theme in European history. Now regarding Trump: He is grossly incompetent, ignorant, and egotistical but so is Joe Biden. I had no intention of voting Trump until it became increasingly clear the Biden Administration has now weaponized the Justice Department. These recent charges against Trump are far more about removing a presidential candidate than anything else. Further, the corruption regarding Biden’s involvement in China, Romania, and Ukraine is beyond obvious to anyone that is aware of the contents of his son’s laptop and corroborating testimony elsewhere. If there were a free press Biden would likely never have been elected or would have been forced to resign as Hunters laptop was fully examined by an impartial Justice Department. I agree with Mish that Trump is awful but I disagree that he is the wrong choice in these strange times. America now has state party media and Biden has turned the Justice Department into the Democratic Party Justice Department (something the Soviets and Germans did in the 1920’s and 1930’s). The Biden people and Neocons in American politics are risking a shooting war with Russia and Trump (with all his faults) has shown he is very reluctant to risk war with nuclear armed countries. My preference in this election is Kennedy but I don’t see him as a likely option. Trump like him or not is your best choice if you prefer freedom of thought as part of your American future.
Trump has his failings but the other side (Democrats, Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, AOC, Warren, Sanders, Whitmer, Kamala) are a disaster. Voting for the Libertarians, Greens, Communists isn’t going to change a thing.
Yes the Repukes stink but Dems are in a whole nother ballpark.
You can thank the Dems for CAFE standards where we’ll all be driving 3 cylinder cars
and for Further Affirmative Housing where we’ll have to live next to third world types.
I’ll hold my nose and vote for Trump if it comes to that.
i want to be a passenger in a rickshaw world. like downtown san diego and other places. i might start a company here in gotham. the young hot studs and chics always seem to be popular for fat boomers to be hauled about. big gulps in hand.
What we are seeing is a collection of ideas held by voters, expressed through Republican candidates. And it’s no different with Democrats when it comes to DEI, ESG, CRT, drug legalization, no bail, defund the police, and immigration. Society’s polarization began at the grass roots and has manifested itself at the Federal level of government.
Nice comparison Six, as I had not lumped them together in buckets that way, and looked at it again until your post. I suppose it now comes down to a simple “List” so to say, of what you wish to have for the “Country and its Future”
I guess, in an odd sort of way, that is what they intended with elections and a two party system. I think it breaks down however, because the “List” is now So Long, and Includes So Much, that the Majority will find it hard to pick based on the Main Items:
Person 1 Main Items. Person 2 Main Items
For Life. For Abortion
Pay for Education Free Education
Work Some for Tax $ Income. Free Basic Income
In Person Voting in 1 Day. Mail In Ballots 3 Weeks
Something like this perhaps, and may the “Best List “ Win
That attitude is exactly what separates the Dems from the Republicans. The Dems are smart in the fact they they appear at least United on the same front. The Republican Party just beats the crap out of each other and lose, lose, and lose some more.
There is nothing wrong with the rest of the party sounding exactly like Trump, but they have to Stand Behind The Man Too! This is the biggest deficit the party has. The fake, phony, frauds in the party like Mitch M. and Kevin M. Etc. are always trying to underhand, backhand, lie about, vote against etc. and that represents a Non Unified Party. If the voters are ever brave enough to get rid of the rest of the losers in the party, then we can turn this thing around.
Short of being unified, like the Democrat Party, the Republicans have ZERO CHANCE at ever winning an election again (for Dem ex.see voting records Vs. R’s as they are always ALL IN for the Party, and NOT trying to undermine, undercut, show weakness, and a party of chaos at times. Not the way to sway the voters and get your Party Elected now is it…
The Dems do indeed act like a totalitarian communist party in how they support ONLY their party positions, and their captive deep state. This is the biggest peril of our times. (RFK, Jr. is one of very few Dem exceptions.)
Americans desperately NEED to support and vote for ONLY those specific CANDIDATES (*NOT* party) who challenge the establishment, challenge the weaponized deep state, support open debate (not cancellation and censorship), or we will surely lose more and more freedoms in the US and the world.
It is SO SAD how many (otherwise intelligent) Democrat voters still do not realize that their party has become the bad guys, and they and their children will suffer from the loss of freedom as we become more of a police state.
Trump is the best bet to roll back the authoritarian state, as the deep state clearly knows. In Trump, we are not looking for a role model, we are looking for a bodyguard.
The economy is going to be a lot worse by the 2024 election. I think people will vote with their pocket books. I think Trump was Obamas legacy.
I just ceased listening to any politician. All I see is the Federal Reserve Bank enabling the government to spend what it doesn’t collect in revenue, this making us, and the entire world slaves to the bankers. Forget the political theater and focus on what’s really important.
I hope Trump gets nominated. He got beat badly last time and there would be no better way to galvanize the democratic majority than to make sure he got beat by an even bigger margin.
You’re forgetting that Trump almost won last time. Don’t get overconfident
“Almost” only counts in nuclear bombs.
I’d vote for the Boris Karloff character at the ending scene of The Bride Of Frankenstein. My prepper plan is 3 cold beers in the fridge to slam as it unfolds.
WWIII appears to be getting closer, and it is required by the Fourth Turning if you have read the Wikipedia article on it. My suggestion is that we leave Ukraine and let the Russians police the area. Use the savings to pay the cartels to not sell drugs to our children, and we revolt against the HOA, tear out the grass, and plant vegetables.
That Fourth Turning generational nonsense is pointless
The 1930’s showed clearly that tariffs, sanctions, protectionism, and nationalism led to impoverishment, economic depression, and war. Today’s dumb politicians never saw the 30s as adults. They seem to want to embrace the same policies as the 30’s ? The result appears to be a likely WW3 ? The White House will need another repaint.
The Big Guy might order Garland to slow down, or trade Trump for Biden, because the Big Guy and his wife are much better targets.
Biden is Obama’s puppet. He doesn’t do anything our have any thoughts. He does as told. This is Obama’s 3rd term. a 4th and he will achieve his goal of “fundamentally changing the US” Into a crap hole.
Ah. The USA. No problem that cannot be fixed by bombing it.
Bomb Mexico
Bomb the fentanyl precursor plants in China
Bomb the drug users creating the drug demand
Bomb the chip factories outside the US which suppressing domestic chip industry
Sanction China, it worked so well on Japan in the run-up to Pearl Harbor
Bomb the racists
Bomb the slum rif raf
Hard to set yourself apart when you have been supporting trump all this time. Way i see it some are waiting for a conviction. Ron wants to feel his place policy wise. Pence/ Christie are on the stand by the constitution side. Everyone else is probably aiming for trumps vp. So tge have to tow the line.
Pence = Brutus.
Biden = Shylock?
After Biden flew to Arizona to convince John MdCain to stab Trump in the back
the Big Guy sent Biden to the white house for one term.
Nov 2024 election : the Big Guy vs a republican.
Wall street support : Gamala, DeSantis and Youngkin, but voters are allergic to Gamala and her Jewish husband more than they were allergic to Hillary.
Biden is running to protect Hunter. If Hunter is indicted ==> Gamala in. Gamala
vs DeSantis or Youngkin.
I’d like to buy some of your obviously powerful marijuana!
Your scenario will NEVER happen. Bank on it.
her nickname by her family is mamala. sounds like a perfect banana republik, ruler.
Excellent article here! My view is that Biden stays in IF Trump stays in, as I think Biden believes that he is the only Democrat who can beat Trump.
Now, if Trump doesn’t get nominated, then Biden might well back out, recognizing that he might not make 4 more years with all his faculties intact and doesn’t want to see Harris possibly ascend to the Presidency.

What if Biden Backs Out of the Race?
COMMENTARY
By Charles Lipson
August 30, 2023
What if Biden Backs Out of the Race?
President Biden has declared he’s running for a second term, but it’s far from certain he actually will. His infirmity and low poll numbers raise serious doubts. His physical decline shows when he walks or climbs the stairs of Air Force One. His cognitive decline shows when he refuses to hold press conferences or answer even the simplest questions, like how he feels about the devastating fires in Maui. His decline in the public’s estimation shows when pollsters ask Americans how they’re doing. Four out of five answer, “Not good. Not good at all.”
Voters also say they don’t want another general election choice like the last one. So many votes in 2020 were negative ones “against the worse candidate,” not in favor of the better one. They don’t want another grudge match between two unpopular candidates.

The sleeper legal fight that could define 2024: Is Trump even eligible to run?
Some scholars say Trump is disqualified under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause. Here’s how the courts might wade in.
By Erica Orden

If Donald Trump wants to be on the ballot next year in all 50 states, he might first have to win an unprecedented courtroom battle over the “insurrection clause” of the 14th Amendment.
Under a legal theory that’s gaining traction among Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans, that seldom-used clause arguably disqualifies Trump from ever holding office again due to his attempts to undermine the 2020 election and his role in stoking the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
….
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/01/fourteenth-amendment-insurrection-clause-trump-00113790
Trump wanted National Guard to be at the Capitol Building, in order to prevent what happened on Jan6 at the Capitol Building.
Election corruption by all those opposed to Trump in 2020, undermined the election. The 51 corrupt intelligence officials that lied about the Hunter Biden laptop, for one. The election interference by Google, which stated after 2016, that they weren’t going to let Trump happen again. Corruption by Facebook and Twitter, as well. UnConstitutional changing of election rules in certain states, to benefit Biden. The Presidential Debate Commission. All Democrat moderators, even the one from FOX. The second debate was 2 separate interviews and Trump was treated differently that Biden.
None of that is the mark of a free and fair election.
What part of “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard today.”
The only people trying to commit insurection / seditious conspiracy were maybe the Proud Boys who brought a cash guns to the DC area but didn’t actually deploy them.
The entire “day of” situation lies at the feet of Nancy Pelosi. She knowingly with intention to help ensure things got out of hand to hurt Trump politically did not deploy the national guard. Had there been as few as 25 national guardsmen covering the doors, the entire day would have turned into a non-nothing burger. The protestors would have respected those service members.
Instead, the Capitol police conspired with Pelosi to ensure things got out of hand by opening the doors to let protestors in. And that doesn’t even get into all of the FBI undercover persons doing sketchy things to amp up the crowd.
It would be fantastic for Trump to win in 2024 and then immediately declassify all information related to how many under cover FBI agents were on the mall and what they were doing. I would bet $10,000 this information would go poof, if Trump wins. It would “somehow” disappear.
Let’s not forget that Trump was impeached and ACQUITTED of this charge.
Mish has always been in favor of “free trade” even though neither “free” or “fair” trade has never actually existed. But that’s OK says Mish, becasue the price of things might go up a bit if it was manufactured here, so let’s just outsource all jobs to other places and…..it will all be good, because we are involved in “free trade!”, don’t argue with the gospel of neo-liberalism.
Mish was always OK with exporting all American jobs to lower cost nations like China, in the spirit of “free trade”, as long as his job was not one of the ones exported – despite living in Chicago, one of the obvious examples of what happens when all good local jobs go away to other places.
As the commenter above correctly stated: ” I lived in Weirton, West Virginia 1981 -83. When I got there, it was a prosperous steel mill town. The America offshores its steel production, and Weirton turned into a hellhole of despair, meth, and Oxycontin.” This is the story across America today, unless you work in financial engineering or the swamp for the government, or a defence contractor, in which case you are looking to upgrade to a larger estate and a bigger yacht. Nothing to see here folks, move along, says Mish.
Wnen the observable reality directly contradicts your cherished beliefs, but you just can’t see what your own lying eyes show you right in front of you, maybe it is time to change that mindset.
But Mish is about to experience what most Americans have already seen, as his job will soon be replaced by an AI “financial advisor” based on a rack of computers probably located in China or some other “more competitive country”. Then we can conclude Mish failed to compete effectively against “free trade” in financial advisory. But that probably still won’t convince MIsh he is totally wrong on this issue, as he has always been.
The strategic interests of your country state the obvious fact that you simply can’t export all the manufacturing jobs to other places, in favor of lower costs and greater investor returns – because eventually the country becomes a hollowed out shell that collapses. Which you can see all across America by just driving around for an hour. The whole place is falling apart. But of course to a “free trade” advocate, there is absolutely no connection between the obvious decay all around them, and their cherished belief in “the free flow of capital” and “enhanced investor returns”.
Pathetic Mish.
He might be a free trader, but he sure as hell won’t explain how he’ll make unfair trade free.
I agree. Pathetic.
Your diatribe is nonsense. If you think AI could replicate Mish’s work, you don’t understand that AI traffics in generalities and doesn’t provide much insight at all.
that is out of line and not fair to Mish. i might point out some of his errors in economics, but he runs a great blog, and certainly does NOT endorse above. tariffs only reward certain companies, and makes things more expensive. if wewent back 200 years ago had NO taxes but tariffs and land sales to support the FEDs, then sure, maybe.
Umm, you can’t beat Trump under any circumstances in 2024. I am not a big Trump fan but as an engineer who simply cares about fact, this is my summary of the guy:
– Arrogant and childish, a born narcissist but NOT EVIL. Likes to play hardball but has never been EVIL. The reason why the left hate him like poison is that he was one of them who could not be completely turned to the dark, evil, Satanic side.
– He finally got tired of the absolute EVIL and took steps to oppose it (like change from dem to GOP which is a weak step since many GOP are EVIL RINOs).
– As he approaches death, he is at least smart enough to try to get right with the Lord G_d. Part of that is to stand between simple people and the EVIL that is running the country into the ground. That is why the left hates him so much. He knows They Live and that opposing them will be something he can hang his hat on at the pearly gates.
– Trump took down Hillary, the witch. She was supposedly unbeatable, but Trump beat her like an old rug. That’s more difficult than running down a Cephalepoid.
– Trump sounds like a moron when talking but an honest review shows that most of the things he said (and was lambasted for by the left at the time) have turned out to be wise and or truth.
– It has taken minorities a long time to wake up and see how evil the dems are but they have definitely woken up, led by capable leaders such as Candace Owens and many others. They have finally realized that they are the ones most affected by liberal lies and con games.
– Because of all of the above, combined with the corruption of Joke Biden and his crime family whose stench is now so huge that nobody can ignore it, Trump will win by the biggest landslide of any election in the past 125 years.
It is a joke to even think anyone else will win because conservatism is on a massive upswing (we trend watchers know this because of the sudden reversal of Roe V. Wade), and conservatives actually appreciate when someone does something for them. Each time Trump absorbs another fake legal charge or another failed impeachment attempt or another fabricated Russiagate scandal, the conservatives look at him and realize that no human could survive all of this without the hand of G_d on his shoulder. Trump is the Teflon Don. Their shit won’t stick to him and in 2024 conservatives will 1) protect the polls so that massive cheating cannot occur like before and 2) vote their asses off, not letting anything stop their ballot from being properly records (like what happened to Kari Lake, such a shame to see).
I think this religious prophecy may come to pass in due time. If you don’t perceive this possibility I submit that you may benefit from more reading of uncensored sources of information. “God helps those who help themselves,” so y’all please do your research and make a personal effort to improve our nation. The critical time for decisions and transitions approacheth! Thank you for your consideration.
With the sheer number of illegals coming into this country, 2024 is the last stand. We’ve got as more months of massive illegal immigration to contend with and all the bad that comes with that. If soccer moms or independents vote dem in 2024, then we’ve passed the point of no return. And you add that to the absolute brazen level weaponization of the FBI & DOJ and you truly get the 1984 Orwellian dystopia that we all deserve for not pushing back hard enough.
I can’t say that agree with everything in your post, but it certainly does a good job of putting Trump’s political career into perspective. There’s a lot to dislike but he still has a lot of appeal at the same time. He’s a walking, talking oxymoron as a politician.
I want him to get just to witness the nuclear explosion that happens on both sides. It’s going will be epic!
But, I’m firmly of the opinion that the election has already been decided. The dems have perfected what may be perfectly legal processes to influence elections. Controlling Big Tech & the MSM are the best examples of this.
We’ve got 12 more months
I suspect WAY more illegals that anyone thinks vote Republican and the reason is entirely due to their religious faith (take a look at how Hispanics in Miami voted for Trump over Biden and how shocked the left was about that).
Catholicism doesn’t condone abortion and lots of other policies that the Democratic left loves. In fact most of them came from ‘leftist utopias’ and aren’t eager to move to another such country.
Hispanics in Florida are primarily Cuban and have always voted republican, not sure that is a good litmus test.
I looked up the definition of EVIL and here is what it said, source link below:
1.
a: morally reprehensible : sinful, wicked
an evil impulse
b: arising from actual or imputed bad character or conduct
a person of evil reputation
2.
archaic : inferior
b
: causing discomfort or repulsion : offensive
an evil odor
c
: disagreeable
woke late and in an evil temper
3
a
: causing harm : pernicious
the evil institution of slavery
b
: marked by misfortune : unlucky
I would think having unprotected sex with a porn star while married to another women would qualify as ‘morally reprehensible’ as well as the constant lying for starters. You can look up on YouTube trump calling for violence, talk about taking people’s guns away or making fun of disabled people. But if you don’t think any of this is evil then perhaps you need to examine your moral compass.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/evil
exactly. i use the term evil empire to describe pax dumbfuckistan, and folks think it means the devil in hell. amerikans are idiots. of course trump is evil. democracy works, evil assholes elect evil assholes. amerika bombs the devil out of the world for past 70 years. pardon devil pun. just reality. evil empire of assholes.
“God has a special providence for fools, drunkards, and the United States of America.” – Otto von Bismarck
And maybe Trump.
In Jan 6 Trump “Chick A out. If elected he will NOT. DeSantis has similar policies.
He is a cool effective leader married to a tough Cuban wife. Vivek is a sleeze b*g salesman. We don’t need a Sunak.
After Dalia DeSantis might reach Parity. If he or Yougkin elected they will spare us from a purge …
There was supposed to be a YUGE red wave during the last election and it didn’t happen. With 5000 boomers exiting the political and earthly plane each day, the republican electorate will simply get smaller and smaller. Millenials and Zoomers vote heavily democratic for now and republicans do nothing to message young people other than to criticize or antagonize them in some shape or form. So whether it’s trump or desantis or someone else, it likely won’t matter for them, the votes won’t be there.
https://time.com/6232272/generation-z-voters-midterm-elections/
CSPAN : Black and Latino Zoomers Hate Biden, hate old white people.
You’re forgetting that young voters don’t turn out to vote. And there are are plenty of young Republicans who do
Did you bother reading the link with my comment? Since you’re new here I will explain. I often provide comments with link to a reputable source that provides DATA. I make DATA driven observations, analysis and draw conclusions.
You are providing wishful thinking with no links to any data or any reputable news source. Go ahead and scour the internet and show us all data points from reputable sources where young people are voting republican. There are data analytics for this kind of stuff.
Failing to do that means you’re not a credible source of anything but unsubstantiated opinion.
Young people voting Republican are not really young.
It is long past time the American Empire and the endless proxy wars were on the ballot. You can’t care about every single border on Planet Earth except our own; that’s imperialist insanity.
Vivek is also for eliminating the FBI, which unfortunately has to be done since Democrats weaponized it against law-abiding citizens.
There are lots of ways government spending cuts can be supported by actual fiscal conservatives. We should it do now before austerity is imposed on the US.
Also, none of the “free trade” agreements are actually “free trade” when you read the fine print; they are deals to send our jobs overseas and giveaways to other countries; end the charade. Either practice free trade, or practice mercantilism and protectionism, but either way stop sending America’s economic strength abroad to our enemies.
Mercantilism and protectionism do not work. But the other option does work.
mercantilism does work. it just creates special and favored industries and companies that profit. free market is the proper way. but mercantilism does work. it has for thousands of years in many different nations……
Like Trump, Vivek makes bold pronouncements that he will never act upon. Part of Trump’s success is that his threats are taken seriously. Just ask little rocket man or Putin. Part of Vivek’s strategy is to out Trump, Trump. You have say pretty outrageous things to do this.
I think at the one year point before the election Biden is gonna announce he’s not running and Newsom will enter the fray on cue. RFK Jr will remain a wildcard because of the huge group of voters that identify as independents. As far as De Santis he blew his opportunity. He should have attacked Trump on all the stupid stuff Trump did. Everything from the poor handling of the pandemic to the Great Wall of China on our southern border. I have a brain damaged(tumor) friend that gets a $100 and a free trip to a TJ cathouse for driving illegals over the border. If Trump truly wasn’t posturing he would have placed a federal law on the books for a $50k fine for anybody caught hiring an illegal with $10k going to the person that turned em in
From a Democrat point of view, why would you want to run Newsom for president? The Democrats are already guaranteed to win California so he won’t be delivering ‘his state’ in the election.
It would make much more sense to run someone from a swing state who could potentially deliver a much needed state. That’s why DeSantis / Trump are key guys for the Republicans because they can deliver Florida.
I don’t think Newsom would make it. Mention California and Independents break out in hives.
Yeah but the Dems kinda boxed themselves into a corner with the old geezer and the lovable kam-kam
Nah, they could run Michelle Obama. She would deliver the black vote (well at least make sure they all voted) and the women’s vote.
They’d probably consider Kennedy too if he would lay off the conspiracy theory talk around his dad and uncles deaths. No one cares what happened 60 years ago regardless of how it went down.
There’s no way Biden will give way to ANYONE unless he has a major medical problem…and maybe not even then. Newsom will have to wait until 2028.
And if Trump wins in 2024, I’ll bet he starts talking about revoking the 22nd Amendment so he can run again in 2028. You heard it here first
You can either be like Trump or get run over by Trump. All the candidates know this. So do you want to be Christie or Vivek? DeSantis got obliterated by Trump. All Ron had to do was wait in the wings by supporting Trump and he would be a shoe in for 2028. Instead, like Christy, he tried to stand up to Trump and he is done. Hopefully Youngkin sees this and chooses to wait til 28.
Myself I decided not to vote for anyone over 60 years old. Time for the younger ones to take over.
I’ll pass on another fat loudmouth from New Jersey. He should be floating over the Macys Parade and Pritzker over the Rose Bowl parade. 2 blimps.
Why don’t they just finish the wall and lock down the border instead of bombing and using the military to attack the cartels. That sounds a lot simpler, cheaper and safer than starting a war with the cartels. That is what Trump tried to do and almost had done. No other president has done anything close on border security in the last 50 years.
Not enough money for the MIC.
Well you can talk about all these guys all you want but I think somehow Gavin Newsom will end up being the Democratic Presidential Candidate next year. Related to Newsom there’s this new leader down in El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, who with regard to crime, has been kicking ass all over the place, as critics acknowledge that gangs that once brought violence and extortion to entire neighborhoods has been dealt a significant blow-Aug 7 2023. Meanwhile as El Salvador keeps locking em up, Newsom keeps letting em loose. LA News-50 Cent Says Los Angeles Finished By No-Bail Policy: Watch How Bad It Gets Out There. Anyway this guy Nayib Bukele, before locking them up, evidently parades these criminals around before the public, and by shaming them, has created a powerful deterrent to criminal behavior.
Can you imagine, how outrageous it would be, here in LA , if they tried to follow this great new kick ass crime program down there in El Salvador? Before locking em all up, the criminals, pedophiles, all the deadbeats were they to be locked up and then be paraded all around all over the place here in LA, would cause such a massive demonstration against the police and everybody else since criminals and pedophiles are our most favored loving criticisms here in Los Angels!
I think that Singapore and Indonesia have much more effective measures than parading perps. And not only are those measures more effective they are more permanent.
The base is his cult. None of them stands a chance.
Last poll i saw had Trump and Biden at 46% each.
In 2016 Trump didn’t stand a chance. He won anyway.
In 2016 Americans voted as they did because they were very dissatisfied.
Are they more satisfied now?
None of them has the NY/NJ accent down like Trump.
He speaks the Queen’s English from the borough of Queens, New York City.
Not only is Trump popular but his positions are popular too and if a Republican candidate has a chance he has to mimic Trump’s positions. Ramaswamy who made his fortune by pumping and dumping has in good marketing style studied Trump’s style and is mimicking it rather well. Nevertheless he is just a weak imitation of the real thing.
The only true rival of Trump is DeSantis. Trump knows it. The Dems know it too. He manages to get things done but suffers from not being very charismatic. Perhaps one day soon people will tire of the “messianic leader” approach to government and go for competence instead.
All others in the lineup are not in the running.
His positions are “I’m going to drain the swamp I said I’d drain last time, which rose up, threw the election, and will be putting me in jail for the rest of my life” and “boo hoo”.
But the cultists don’t mind, they’re cultists after all. “Boo hoo” is their cringey mantra.
Are you saying that the swamp exists and that it calls the elections and that you are fine with it?
No. But that’s what you want to believe, and one can’t talk a cultist out of their beliefs.
Carry on, and boo hoo.
I am not a cultist and never have been. I am just surprised that you seem to be saying that you are ok with the “swamp” calling the elections.
CORRECT. trump is very similar to mussolini, and the kingfish. he’s a pure demagogue. a cult. we had 2 others in our history, george wallace and andrew jackson.
@TT – Well there is the cult of Obama and he got two terms. Americans almost got the cult of Hillary.
Don’t worry about Z. He doesn’t even live in the US.
His opinions are pointless, less tha Mish’s on trade policies.
And for clarification, the Swamp doesn’t call elections. That’s big tech & the MSM. They’re able to move mountains, when it comes to elections.
The dems have already won in 2024. We’re just waiting for the final, rigged numbers.
The Dems cannot afford to lose 2024 under any circumstances, so expect something close to a civil war, perhaps the real thing ?
Long way to November 2024…don’t be so sure…
” “I’m going to drain the swamp I said I’d drain last time, which rose up, threw the election, and will be putting me in jail for the rest of my life””
Which parts of these facts don’t you support?
You support the swamp? (work for a military contractor?)
You support the fact that Trumps entire first Administration was deliberately sabtaged by the swamp including memebers of his own swampy Party? (remember “Trump Collusion? The 2 phony impeachments based on lies? The “Steele Dossier”? )
etc etc etc we could go on for days here – but you are OK with all that, because Trump? The Biden Admin is the worst in US history, but you’d vote for them, because Trump?
You are suffering from extreme TDS, and the only one in a cult is you.
I listened.to De.Santis and.he.seemed.like a.far.more.competent.candidate.than.”just.grab em by the pussy” Trump. Biden’s ethics and.mental decline are also scary.for a.guy that could.pull the nuclear trigger.

Why so many periods in your sentences?
Trump is popular among the cult members, but get outside that minority group and he is very much disliked. That’s why he loses,no appeal to anyone who doesn’t buy the lies.
Why did you add the “t” at the end of your post name?
I didn’t do it. It was just automatic and I wasn’t paying attention.
The last time Americans voted for competence was for Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 for his second term.
I dunno about the tariff thing – I lived in Weirton, West Virginia 1981 -83. When I got there, it was a prosperous steel mill town. The America offshores its steel production, and Weirton turned into a hellhole of despair, meth, and Oxycontin. I don’t think Mish has ever had to worry about his job being outsourced to China. Easy to lecture people when you’ve got yours.

The major take away from Mish when it comes to trade is that he loves to bash everything but never gives us his manifesto on trade. He’s totally one sided, loving to criticize but never gives solutions.
He seems like a free trader, but how exactly do you do that in 2023? I dunno. because Mish won’t inform us what his trade policies would be if he were Trump in January 2025.
“He seems like a free trader, but how exactly do you do that in 2023?”
It’s rather easy: You just don’t meddle. And how do you guarantee you don’t meddle: You make sure government has not the faintest clue where something is nominally “made.” Which was, after all, the intent behind not including hiring-an-army-of net-negatives-to-catalogue-and-deem-and-hold-where-a-pinecone-was-“made” among what-was-at-one-point-intended-to be-a-civilized-government’s (quaint, I know…) strictly enumerated powers.
No different from how you ensure you are pro free speech in 2023: Everything uttered, and written is, by definition; assumed to be written in a dialect of Martian which noone in government, no ambulance chaser and no other budding meddler understands as much as a single syllable of. Hence have no way of knowing what is about. Should some phrase happen to sound vaguely like something some idiot-on-the-make takes offense at: It is, per definition, assumed to be only due to a purely accidental confluence of sounds. Period.
IOW: Free trade is easy. Subset of Freedom is easy. Since freedom is achieved simply by getting rid of…. Without adding anything back at all to replace….
OTOH, IF having some form of government is, for whatever weird reason, considered a benefit (which I suppose it may be, as long as the government is; institutionally; sufficiently limited, hamstrung, predictable, non-arbitrary and non-biased): A flat, truly universal, predictable, non-biased and non-arbitrary tariff; of say 10%; levied on ALL that which crosses the border inbound; is one of the very, very few legitimate means for any legitimate such an entity to raise funds. That and property taxes, that’s it. Anything else, is just arbitrary theft and an excuse to setup a full blown STASI regime. For the exact same, and none other, purpose that the Original STASI was set up.
So, if Trumpo wants to not sound like such a complete idiot, he needs to specify that his tariff proposal, will fund removing the income and debasement taxes. Do that, and he would be working to MAGA for real. Instead of being just another self promoting moron, talking nonsense, while presiding over an America getting nothing but worse day in and day out, year in and year out, without any end in sight at all.
ancient complaint. new england farmers died when erie canal was built and commodity prices in new england plummeted 90%.
Even if you bomb Mexican drug labs into oblivion it’s just an exercise in wac a mole. The drugs will just pop up somewhere else. 50 years of this insanity is enough.
One bit of partial sanity maybe, HHS has recommended reclassifying marijuana from schedule I to schedule III. It should be removed altogether of course. We’ll see.
“Even if you bomb Mexican drug labs into oblivion it’s just an exercise in wac a mole.”
Duh! Everyone sentient realises that.
But we live in America. Where The Fed has succeeded in transferring ALL wealth, hence ALL power, to a gaggle of complete idiots who are, to a person, flat out non sentient.
ALL owners and executives of all American companies, all those who run any department of government at any levels, who preside over ANY kangaroo “court”, as well as all “billionaires”, all “celebrities”, all “experts”; increasingly even all academics are; Every.Single.One.Of.Them, to a person; people who are genuinely, no bs nor exaggeration, flat out stupid. To the point where they don’t understand what you just pointed out. And never, ever will. Nor will their equally reliably stupid, dilettante offspring.
That’s America in the #dumbage.
Well indoctrinated drones may claim I’m exaggerating. They’ll be wrong. Just as they are about everything else their indoctrinators have told them to uncritically believe in.
So; “…Fire Rockets Into Mexico and Pretend Like the U.S. Didn’t Do It” is what’s considered “brilliant” “foreign policy” among Americans by now. Yes. it really is. Just like they, similarly idiotically, believe their “home” has somehow generated value as it sat there decaying over the decades….
There’s no end. Talk about waste of a once perfectly viable continent.
Yes, why not dump the Fentanyl in big piles on street corners and let the drug addled go at it? Ban Narcan also. Problem [eventually[ solved. Much work for undertakers.
Funny how, if you believe the news, that’s what’s happening!
Actually if you legalized drugs it would probably end the cartels and the prison industrial complex.
Just came across this article. Regular marijuana users, who consistently claim it as a 100% “safe” drug, might want to get some blood and urine tests done for heavy metal contamination!
——–
Warning: Columbia University Uncovers High Metal Levels in Blood of Marijuana Users
COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY’S MAILMAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH SEPTEMBER 2, 2023
A recent study discovered significant levels of metals in the blood and urine of marijuana users, indicating marijuana as a possible unrecognized source of lead and cadmium exposure. This research, among the first to link self-reported marijuana use with internal metal exposure, raises concerns about public health, especially as marijuana consumption rises and federal regulations remain inconsistent.
A Columbia University study found high metal levels in marijuana users’ blood and urine, highlighting potential health risks and emphasizing the need for consistent regulations.

You can’t vote for Trump because he is a megalomaniac. You want the Star Trek version of good Kirk, but it doesn’t exist.
They’re all megalomaniacs. Trump just isn’t smart enough to hide it.
I think it’s more that Trump doesn’t care so he sees no reason to hide it.
Pretty much everyone knew what he was like long before he was president because they’d either read his book or watched the apprentice.
Even worse, it’s what the average American wants.
democracy works. people actually vote for people like themselves. first 2500 years anyway.
Your core message is correct.Trump’s response to them will be like FDR’s response to one of his opponents, in essence ‘he’ll do the same things I’m doing, but it will be cheaper’.
Declare war? Consider our military operations in Syria, Nepal, the Philippines, the Yemen, and a long list of other places that got little public notice. That clause will only be operative after two or three Presidents are impeached, convicted, and removed from office.
We are at war with Russia. Our soldiers are in Ukraine. Our weapons are in Ukraine. Our money is in Ukraine. We are all but pulling the trigger.
200,000 Ukrainians are dead, millions displaced. This is real vs a hollow threat by someone who has no shot at being president. But if you are Mitt Romney it’s ok because Russians are dying and Americans are not dying. Tone deaf does not even begin to describe the senator from Utah.
