“I Have Big Rallies, Fauci is a Disaster”
As election 2020 winds down Trump brags about the size of his rallies as Blasts Fauci as a Disaster.
“People are tired of Covid,” he complained. “I have the biggest rallies I’ve ever had. And we have Covid. People are saying, ‘Whatever. Just leave us alone.’ They’re tired of it.”
He added, “People are tired of hearing Fauci and these idiots, all these idiots who got it wrong.”
Mr. Trump also called Dr. Fauci a “nice” guy, but he said, “He’s been here for 500 years,” and added, “Every time he goes on television, there’s always a bomb, but there’s a bigger bomb if you fire him. This guy’s a disaster.”
The article notes that attack went against the advice of advisers who tried to get the president to lay off the doctor who remains popular.
Fauci on 60 Minutes
Also note that Fauci was on 60 minutes last night. In the interview Fauci admits administration has restricted his media appearances, says he’s not surprised Trump got COVID.
Q: Dr. Jon LaPook: Were you surprised that President Trump got sick?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: Absolutely not. I was worried that he was going to get sick when I saw him in a completely precarious situation of crowded, no separation between people, and almost nobody wearing a mask. When I saw that on TV, I said, “Oh my goodness. Nothing good can come outta that, that’s gotta be a problem.” And then sure enough, it turned out to be a superspreader event.
Q: Dr. Jon LaPook: During this pandemic, has the White House been controlling when you can speak with the media?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: You know, I think you’d have to be honest and say yes. I certainly have not been allowed to go on many, many, many shows that have asked for me.
Q: [Regarding Masks]: Dr. Jon LaPook: So when you find out you were wrong, you don’t double down?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: No. When you find out you’re wrong, it’s a manifestation of your honesty to say, “Hey, I was wrong. I did subsequent experiments and now it’s this way.” The benefit of masks has been supported by evidence that, under certain conditions, the virus can travel more than the six feet suggested by social distancing guidelines. … You know, he sometimes equates wearing a mask with weakness.
Q: Dr. Jon LaPook: Does that make sense to you?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: No it doesn’t. Of course not.
Q: Dr. Jon LaPook: Do you have a feeling that there is sometimes an all-out war against science?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: Oh yeah. I mean, particularly over the last few years. There’s an anti-authority feeling in the world. And science has an air of authority to it. So people who want to push back on authority tend to, as a sidebar, push back on science.
Death Threats
Once an avid runner, at 79, Dr. Fauci now power walks, flanked by federal agents.
Q: Dr. Jon LaPook: What’s that all about?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: That’s sad. The very fact that a public health message to save lives triggers such venom and animosity to me that it results in real and credible threats to my life and my safety. But it bothers me less than the hassling of my wife and my children.
Q: Dr. Jon LaPook: They’ve been threatened?
A: Dr. Anthony Fauci: Yes. I mean, like, give me a break.
YouTube 60 Minute Interview
The interview is 13 minutes long. Play it. It kicks off with Fauci saying he will vote in person.
Timed to Hurt Trump?
This interview may have been timed to hurt Trump and probably did.
But Trump’s response today did more to hurt Trump than the interview.
More Appeal to the Base Silliness
Trump again repeats a message that plays well to his base and no one else.
Blasting Fauci as an “Idiot” is not going to play well with seniors, women, or anyone still undecided and sitting on the fence.
Not that there are many undecided voters left at this stage anyway.
Trump supporters still pretend this is 2016. It isn’t.
Key Ideas
- In 2016 Trump made the campaign a referendum on Hillary, a winning tactic.
- In 2020, Trump made the campaign a referendum on himself, losing support of women and seniors in doing so.

This labeling of Fauci as an “idiot” is not likely to play well with either group.
But hey, “I have big rallies,” says Trump.
To the bitter end, it’s all about feeding Trump’s big ego, no matter what it costs him.
This time, the election.
Mish

Yet Trump listened to Fauci and gave him an award. Just shows Trump flip flops on absolutely every thing, he can’t be trusted to keep his word.
Trump will likely be gone in a couple of months. And then we’ll have a fresh set of things to worry about.
Fact-Checking Fauci
Phillip W. Magness
– August 10, 2020
In recent congressional testimony Dr. Anthony Fauci, the primary architect of the Trump administration’s COVID response, painted a bleak picture about the United States’s ability to contain the pandemic. According to Fauci’s narrative, the United States is experiencing a resurgence in regional COVID outbreaks because it failed to sufficiently lock down back in March, and failed to comply with the existing lockdown orders. Fauci specifically contrasted this situation to several European states that imposed lockdowns around the same time, claiming the latter as a successful model for COVID containment.
There are several immediate problems with Fauci’s arguments, including the fact that COVID cases are showing clear signs of a summer resurgence in the same European countries that allegedly tamed the virus through harsh lockdowns in the spring. The American news media however has seized on Fauci’s narrative, and used it to call for renewed lockdowns. The New York Times and the Washington Post both editorialized in favor of a second stricter wave of nationwide lockdowns lasting until October – this despite there being no clear evidence that lockdowns actually work at taming the virus.
So how does the evidence behind this narrative stand up under empirical scrutiny? Let’s consider the claims.
…
God, Jojo, do I ever want a peek at the good Dr’s portfolio!!!!
I wonder why Dr. Fauci still has not publicly broken with tRump & his group of idiots.
I live in Florida and voted for Biden today and that is the extent of what I can do about getting rid of the proto Nazi fat assed orange spy installed by Putin, that disgusting deranged depraved illiterate that cheated his way into the presidency proving that America is extremely vulnerable.
At this point I can tune the rest out, the ads, the lies, the brainwashed drooling zombies with the flags and flotillas that seem to be less able to float than the average lead balloon.
Within 3.5 hours of polls opening for early voting 25% of the entire 117 thousand eligible active voters in this county had voted. As of four minutes ago 30,388 people had voted, 25.95% of the active voters, and the rest have till November 3. The turn out has been not just heavy but record shattering, extraordinary. 25,000 of those votes were mailed in. There are three early polling places open. This county usually goes quite red, I think they are going to find this time it is a hell of a lot more purple.
If Trump does not take Florida he has zero path to 270 electors. None. He already has to get every state he got last time to win, He is on hin ice in at least 9 that he took in 2016. The odds that he loses one or more are high and we all know that, the odds that he takes any state that voted for HRC are nil. There is not even one single state that went blue in 2016 that he is even 10 points within flipping.
Further the senate is now favored to flip to the dems at a 75% chance, and to be at LEAST a tie 50/50 greater than 94%, there is on a 5% chance the GOP retains control. THAT IS HOW BIG THIS LANDSLIDE IS! At this point the only way Trump can possibly win is if Biden dies before the 3rd.
When someone says trump won because of putin. I know where to put the comment and person in “idi**” box.
When sombody says Trump WON I know to flag their posts as spam!
Unmentioned is that it was intended as private speech, not a public statement
(mic was left on)
Does that make it better or worse?
Better. It means someone is aware of what other people think and that one often does well to keep one’s thoughts to oneself, or that situations sometimes demand tact.
“I have big rallies,” says Trump. “To compensate for my small flaccid penis.”
And teeny, tiny hands…
To be called an idiot by Trump is a compliment.
regarding covid 19 I’ll still be very careful ty
You have to admit that this is classic Trump, though. He thinks he knows more than the experts, so be brings in someone who, while unqualified, has an opinion Trump likes, and then he tries to get the experts to quit.
Atlas might have got the job due to politics, but he’s anything but “unqualified”:
Actually, he is quite unqualified in the field of infectious disease medicine and epidemiology. He is a neuroradiologist and has worked in the field of medical policy. For example, advocating repeal of the ACA.
Exactly Stan. He is certain qualified for a number of jobs, just not the one he is in. He completely lost my respect when he started reciting death rates that I knew to be false. They were about 1/10 of the actual ones. Was it:
I don’t know, and I don’t care. All three are inexcusable for a man in his position. He should present the real facts, and if he wants to suggest that there are reasons he doesn’t believe them, I have no problem with that, but to give out numbers that obviously don’t match the real numbers is just wrong.
Perhaps he didn’t agree, like so many of us, that the death count is accurate? D’oh.
CDC announced today that, as many have expected, the death count isn’t correct. The real death count is closer to 300,000 than the current 220,000.
In any case, if he wants to adjust the numbers, he needs to explain what adjustments he made, and why, and explain why he thinks his adjusted numbers are more accurate than the official numbers. It is inexcusable to just make up numbers, and pawn them off as the actual numbers with no explanation. That’s something you expect to see on twitter or a sketchy internet site, not from the official channels.
Making up number is how it works on the internet and with the MSM. Anyway, by the time you dig into an issue, get someone to explain where they are getting their numbers from (if you can), everyone has moved on to the next shiny trinket/issue.
It’s like the boy who cried wolf. The result is that consider him a liar, and I no longer pay any attention to him.
An educated person should be able to comment on a wide variety of subjects. You don’t need to be an epidemiologist to pontificate intelligently on Covid-19. All that is needed is some common sense, which is sadly lacking in the MSM narrative for Covid-19 and many commenters here.
“Actually, he is quite unqualified in the field of infectious disease medicine and epidemiology.”
If that is the metric for “qualified”, Fauci is also not qualified…..he’s not an epidemiologist(not that I think that’s a big deal) and his infectious disease chops were mostly in the AIDS/HIV related areas.
Any MD has SOME epidemiology background…but the reality is that it’s a statistically driven field with less emphasis on “doctoring” per se.
But alas, we all know Covid-19 is a politically driven topic now….so attacking someone’s credibility is now more important than the topic itself.
But Fauci has been working in the field a long time, and worked his way up. Atlas is new to the field, and starts at the top?
“People are tired of Covid,” he complained.
People are tired of Covid. Protesters were marching in Berlin recently. Laid off employees of Disneyland were protesting last weekend. They want to go back to work.
Thousands of doctors and scientists have signed the Great Barrington Declaration, calling for herd immunity and an end to lockdowns.
“Dr David Nabarro, the WHO’s Special Envoy on Covid-19, tells Andrew Neil: ‘We really do appeal to all world leaders: stop using lockdown as
your primary control method’.”
Dr. Fauci said that HCQ had no efficacy. However, California doctor Brian Tyson treated some 1,700 Covid patients with HCQ and zinc without a single fatality and only one hospitalization.
“Table. Characteristics of symptomatic adults > 18 years who were outpatients in 11 academic healthcare facilities…
Reported use of face covering or mask 14 days before illness onset.
Always 70.6%”
Yet Dr. Atlas is blocked by Twitter for comments he made about masks. It is outright Orwellian. Parrot the official story or be banned or smeared, even if you are a qualified doctor or a scientist.
Truly a momentous declaration, and by it, we know that those brave souls that perished in the Bowling Green Massacre did not die in vain!
There is absolutely no excuse for banning Dr. Atlas from Twitter, whether he was right or wrong, even though he has no training in the field. He should be allowed free speech. Of course, there should be consequences if he is wrong, and people should be able to sue him if they die, but no way should he be prevented from saying what he believes.
You do realize Twitter is a private company that can do as they want, right? Of course you probably also agree with Citizens United that corporations are people. Kind of contradictory, eh?
I completely agree that they can do what they want. I think censoring him, though, makes Dr. Atlas become more credible, even with fans, so it’s counterproductive. I also think that the result will be the appearance of some new anti-Twitter, where many will go as an alternative, and divisions in culture will become increasingly sharp.
Twitter is a platform, not a publisher. Would it be cool if AT&T audited phone calls and disconnected conversations they deemed inappropriate?
You should enclose a note to that effect with your next twitter payment.
A private company not subject to laws protecting public speech and requiring responsibility by publishers for liable and damages. They should not have a special exemption, and corporations do not have natural bodies, in rather sharp contradiction to the term (‘corpora’). Twitter etc are not private spaces. Nobody is on twitter to keep things private. You can hardly get more public.
“Of course, there should be consequences if he is wrong, and people should be able to sue him if they die”
Ha ha ha. I like the concept but how does someone sue someone else if they are dead?
I have long called for politicians to face consequences for their decisions. Too many politicians construct or vote to pass laws and regulations that they know will not work and may have large negative consequences in the future. But they will be long gone from office by then, so they don’t care.
Divide, divide, divide, and require everyone to agree on every issue. That’s a great recipe for shrinking a party, and losing an election.
Trump is a life-long Democrat. I believe he is a Trojan horse, and he joined the Republican Party because he thought they were fools, and he could destroy them. He was right.
I think you’re giving him too much credit for brains.
I dunno… he’s acting pretty lucid the last few days, and I’m sure he didn’t completely Chauncey Gardner his way into the Whitehouse. There was some agency there, with a lot of luck. He’s played the heel for WWF shows, so he definitely understands how to draw and monetize hatred. Maybe some republican pissed him off in the past even more than Obama did at that dinner.
“As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden.”
Bro … i’ve been seriously running that idea in my head too … because everything he does is so perfectly wrong, i think it’s a genius reverse-psychology ruse to wake up the sleepy citizen and inspire patriots .
it’s just so incongruent that someone that sick and deranged could have been voted into office … cognitive dissonance inspires the alternative: that he is a trojan horse double spy genius.
Right you are Carl_R. In fact, if Trump had acted moderately presidential, he’d have my vote. I’m a trust baby and in 2026 stand to lose 40% of my inheritance over $10M when and if they revert the law. That’s not right by me (and btw estate taxes only collect a small percent of income and are unfair to savers). Trump is a closet Democrat it seems. Or he has very little control over his emotions.
Dr. Fauci is not even a real doctor he just talks. Even today this so called doctor doesn’t have a clue how the virus is spreading. Trial-and-error effort is not a real science.
Thats why they refer to it as ,..”Practicing Medicine”
They, doctors, have no idea what they are doing unless they can prescribe a habit forming prescription drug with 9 side effects.
IMBECILES all of them….cotrolled by the Big Pharma’s. aka Drugs For Profit.
” He oversees an extensive research portfolio of basic and applied research to prevent, diagnose, and treat established infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis and malaria as well as emerging diseases such as Ebola and Zika. “
So no, he’s not the guy you trust to glove up and palpitate your prostate. He has a more specialized gig.
And according to reports, he’s totally invested in this covid thing.
‘reports’. What reports? You got a frog in your pocket with a tiny briefcase full of manilla envelopes labeled “TOP SEEKRIT”?
Every now and then it starts singing :
“Heello, my Lady! Hello, my Darling! Hello, my Ragtime Gal!”
you are grossly incorrect. and therein is Amurika … free … free to be an idiot.
He is essentially your medical doctor’s teacher. give it a try and ask your dr…
he edit’s the 60 year pillar of internal medicine that every single medical student and doctor in the world reference and use everyday. https://www.amazon.com/Harrisons-Principles-Internal-Medicine-Twentieth/dp/1259644030

He is a global authority, essentially … a living master of modern medicine.
Advisor to 5 presidential administrations since Reagan.
And you are one more milk toast internaut posting absolutely nothing of value or worse, wrong information / propaganda.
That’s at least 2 posts you have made with essentially the same content. You sound like a Fauci fan boy. Own up!
Fauci is not an idiot, he’s a political stooge. Trump was being nice. Funny Mish, nothing about Biden matters and everything is Trump negative. You’re a broken record. We get it. You’re hoping for Biden but you don’t have the spine to say you’re voting for him. Lame.
Trumposaurus is a very sick piece of human garbage,..he is mentally incapable to do anything other than what he does. T-rump needs psychological assistance !
Dr. Fak(e)chi is a total control freak and with Kill Gates they will destroy the human immune system and it’s god given dna with their BS vaccine.
Sick and demented all of the,…T-rump, Fak(e)chi and Gates.
Get rid of them all,..asap.
I don’t disagree. I call him “Fraudci” btw. He’s been back and forth about the virus since the beginning. I have the Today Show video in late February. Everything is political and used as a weapon to undermine a President “they” don’t like.
I have no love for Fauci, who is a career bureaucrat. He let Trump push him around from the get-go. I’d have told Trump to kiss my ass, frankly….a long time ago.
Guys like Fauci should spend some time figuring out why nobody trusts science anymore. It’s because science sold out……and the “scientific community” has lost credibility. That’s a ‘nother whole long story all by itself.
But surely, surely..people other than just seniors and women can see that Trump is using Fauci for his fall guy. I mean…how many times does that have to happen?….It’s his primary modus operandi.
Yeah, he knew he had to give a bit to get what was needed to save people from a public health hazard. If you tell someone like Trump to kiss you ass you loose any influence you have to improve things. Called pragmatism.
Called hanging on to your job and your cushy retirement package is what I call it.
If Fauci had done what was right and made a stand, a lot of dead people might still be alive.
The whole lie about masks not being effective….which he knew was a lie when he said it….that was where I got off the Fauci train.
It’s that “greatest good for the greatest number” mentality that leads to lying…sorry, but just tell people the truth…….and let them figure out where to get the masks the government decided not to buy to save a few bucks.
When you are in a position of authority and you lie….you lose all credibility when the truth is known. And you do more damage than good, more than likely.
The ends never justify the means. It never makes sense to lie because your cause is just. Almost all the would-be do-gooders in the world make that mistake…it’s like the truth is irrelevant…..
But the truth is never irrelevant.
The guy is freaking 79 years old. Retire, you old fart!
Bullies and Flunkies BS. Educated people say it straight and How It Is.
One of the few things I will agree with Trump on. Fauci is over the hill, has jumped the shark and should have been fired months ago. He is nothing but a publicity seeking little twerp.
Translation: Fauci says things you don’t like to hear.
Fauci’s work during the AIDS crisis saved thousands of lives. Read history.
Perhaps. But that was then and this is now. Fauci is insane now.
If Dr. Fauci was truly the top expert in his field, wouldn’t he be in private practice making a lot more money?
…I don’t get it, what’s in it for them?
What’s in it for Dr. Fauci?
A job that’s more or less guaranteed and not nearly as stressful as private practice – unless there’s a pandemic! Unfortunately for him, there is one on his watch.
If there must be a WHO, then a doctor who is not great, but “good enough” is good enough! Dr. Fauci seems to be a good enough doctor to talk to the right people (assuming they are accessible), talk to the President, and then communicate recommendations. He should not be lauded as “top expert”, rather, a bureaucrat who consults with top experts.
let me guess which way you swing politically . hard to understand that some people aren’t in it for the money, or shall we say exuberant amounts of money.
he edit’s the 60 year pillar of internal medicine that every single medical student and accredited doctor in the world reference everyday.
He is a global authority, essentially … a living master of modern medicine.
Advisor to 5 presidential administrations since Reagan. His reputation is impeccable. Yes, he wants to serve his country and humanity. hard to imagine.
Only a mentally ill , anti establishment wannabee, spineless milktoast internaut posting troll, would attempt to bring this hero down.
and that’s Amurika … freedom . freedom to be an idiot. but when you start threatening the man’s family , you deserve the pile driving rimming jail will provide.
“Only a mentally ill , anti establishment wannabee, spineless milktoast internaut posting troll”
Hey, I AM NOT SPINELESS!
Research in medical sciencies is hard and doesn’t pay well. Fauci prefers to be a frontman and mouth the research done by others. As for making more in the private sector, that’s probably true, but government workers get pretty good pensions (60% of the last three years of their final salary as I recall) and never get fired or lose their jobs in a reorg, as happens in the private sector. Fauci is probably doing the right thing staying put in government service, and he’s also angling for a job with Biden, which he’ll get.
Fauci looks good for his age and seems quite healthy for almost 80 YO..
He also has that rocking chair grandfatherly vibe, which attracts so many. Your point about Biden hiring him has a certain logic to it, as Biden will probably want someone older than himself to point to that he, himself is not over the hill although he could well get a TV show opportunity.
I would wager that the soft-spoken, uninflammatory manner that he effects is what has allowed him to hold his position through 6 administrations, even though I would further wager that he is probably a backstabber.
I’d like to see the ratio of employees trump has thrown under the bus vs the ones he hasn’t.
