Trump and First Lady Test Positive for Covid, in Quarantine

Update

Trump Aide Tests Positive for Covid

Please note Trump to Quarantine After Top Aide Tests Positive for Coronavirus

President Trump said he and the first lady would begin quarantining while they await the results of their Covid-19 tests, after Hope Hicks, a senior White House adviser who traveled with the president this week, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Ms. Hicks traveled with the president aboard Air Force One to and from the debate in Cleveland on Tuesday. She also traveled with Mr. Trump on Air Force One to and from a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday, along with a number of top White House advisers, including Stephen Miller; Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law: and Dan Scavino, deputy chief of staff for communications.

Earlier in the evening, the White House had released a schedule for Friday that showed Mr. Trump attending an indoor fundraiser at the Trump hotel in Washington and traveling to Florida for a campaign rally.

The White House typically uses a rapid test to assess whether the president and other officials have Covid-19, so it wasn’t clear why Mr. Trump doesn’t yet have results.

One Too Many Tests!

If you don’t test, you won’t have it.

Testing is BS

Update: Apparently Not

Debate

The next debate is set for October 15.

Depending on the outcome of the tests, it could be canceled.

Just pointing out we really don’t know for sure that Trump’s symptoms are mild. There’s a long tradition of lying ot the American public about the true state of the President’s health. FDR, JFK and an incident I don’t recall about Bush Sr I believe.

JFK was far sicker than the public knew at the time. He took regular steroid injections to deal with his illness

He is already sick with “mild symptoms,” a characterization I am skeptical of. Reminds me of September 1976 when China announced that Mao had a cold.

One thing I think this does mean, Hope Hicks was veyr unlikely to be the source of infection; “…symptoms typically appear within four or five days after exposure.”

It has been 3 days since Hicks went with Trump on AF1.

For him to already be showing symptoms last night means he is very unlikely to have been exposed after Monday. It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to appear.

It is a legit question given his obesity and age (as well as probable underlying condition of dementia) whether or not his symptoms will worsen to the point that he has to go the Article 25 route, at least temporarily, or die in office. That is no excuse for postponing an election in which more than a million people have already cast ballots, and so many state and local ballot issues are at stake. Even if he were to die prior to election day he could be elected or defeated posthumusly and in the case of a win Pence be sworn in or have his term end January 20, 2021 at noon, and especially if Pence is already the acting president.

The complexity of changing election dates at this point given the rancor in the partisan congress makes this pretty unthinkable.

If Biden were to have to withdraw also then it might be a different story, both sides would have reason to see a short postponement. But, it would be such a circus with the constitution still requiring electors be counted in December and other laws that limit any delay, I do not think it can be done at all. I guess if the top of the ticket were gone for both parties through death or resignation/withdrawal the contest would revert to a vote between Harris and Pence.

This is one of the reasons I was watching Biden’s VP choice so closely, if you remember I thought Biden would be lucky to make it through his first term, now it is not out of the question that he could well not make it to Jan. 20. I just hope he was not infected.

This afternoon when you wrote that I would have agreed, but I just saw the helo take off airlifting him to Walter Reed. Stunning advance of symptoms I would say. He has had this longer than the suggestion that Hope Hicks gave it to him Tuesday aboard AF1. That would be a remarkable down spiral in just three days when three days is the earliest the incubation period is noted to be. Usually it is 5-14 days.

I grudgingly agree; it would in it’s own way be a form of justice for the more than 200,000 dead if he does not survive this, but, it is not the type of justice the nation needs. Besides, it would throw the election into real chaos, such as the GOP never Trump voters now being able to vote for a president Mike Pence instead. It would have an impact on everything if Trump were to succumb to Covid.

Already much has changed, for example how many votes will he now get as sympathy votes when even democrats are expressing hope he gets well soon. He could get a handsome bump from this. Dare I suppose he could even be faking this? Why not? He has lied about everything else and has zero morality to inhibit such a ploy.

I had it in March for 15 days was so sick. They had no tests for it back then and basically told you to stay home if you got sick, they had almost no treatment at that time other than palative. May 1 was tested with finger stick for antibodies and that test came back negative, but the error rate was also 40% for those tests at THAT time.

Was sick again in May requiring an ER visit on the 16th and I was indeed quite ill but sent home because they only had room for the most severe cases and could not confirm it was even Covid anyway, they had no rapid tests then. Got sick again in July but just for a few days. Now sick AGAIN for the 4th time this year and each time has been the same symptoms and sensations even if less severe now, hoping this time it goes away even quicker.

This is one nasty bug that you can get sick from repeatedly and even between bouts have many symptoms like extreme life altering fatigue. I have started thinking of it more like malaria which peaks and falls away and comes back then receeds, but is never completely gone. Though I must admit also what I have may not be Covid at all, the first time I was actually sick was in Ireland in summer 2017 and that forced me to relocate back to the states, whatever that was could be the culprit because I was getting sick with that every so often and my ears have been affected ever since 2017.

I had it in April, same time as my wife who was tested because of occupation.
I had it very lightly, but 4 months later I’m not convinced I’m the same as before (when I do a sprint on my bike for a few kilometers). Lingering symptoms are not uncommon, but on/off again would be somewhat more exceptional, though similar accounts have surfaced.

My grandfather was told at 76 if he did not quit he would not see 77 so he quite, and he was a 2-3 pack a day smoker, he made it to 84 but he told me a little before he died that he wished he had never quit. He said the withdrawal never goes away.

And the part you are leaving out is that they (NFL) were suspicious of the result because all the positive tests came from one source that was subsequently found to be contaminated. Retesting was done and negative results confirmed. A disruption to be sure, but hardly the big deal you are trying to make of it. Hence why no one else is bringing it up this long after the event.

Worthy question, it very well could be for several reasons. He said he would not participate in debates if the rules were changed, and the second debate now falls within his quarantine period so at the very least he will miss that one. He likes to pretend he won Tuesday but he as well as everyone else knows it was a freaking disaster for the GOP.

Also, he is on record over and over saying it is no worse than a bad cold or mild flu, so if he got it and recovered nicely he could say SEE? I TOLD YOU IT WAS NOTHING!

And then there is the sympathy vote, how many GOP never Trumpers could come back to the flock from sympathy, or even thinking great now he has learned his lesson, they do keep falling for that over and over.

What I want to know is if he knew he was infected prior to the debate and went through with it on the chance of infecting Biden. I mean the debate was Tuesday and he was already having symptoms on Thursday night. That is two days and minimum incubation period is 3, but typical time for first symptoms to show up is 4-14, meaning he was already infected and likely infectious on that stage. Maybe he had a sore throat or a tickle in his throat and ignored it, or just said hell with it, if I get sick I am taking Biden with me, no way was he going to skip his chance to act like a crazed chimpanzee slinging his own feces on national TV.

I hope some enterprising network wonk has a look at all the camera feeds from the debates frame by frame to see if he coughed in Biden’s direction. He could have when the camera feed WE see was on Biden and Trump is a TV personality, he knows to look for the red light that is the camera going out to the public, second nature to him. He would have known when he was not being watched.

Trump’s virus case is mild so far, with cold-like symptoms.
President Trump is showing symptoms of the novel coronavirus, but mild ones, according to two people familiar with his condition.

The president has had what one person described as cold-like symptoms. At a fund-raiser he attended at his golf club at Bedminster, N.J., on Thursday, where one attendee said the president came in contact with about 100 people, he seemed lethargic.

A person briefed on the matter said that Mr. Trump fell asleep at one point on Air Force One on the way back from a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday night.

A White House official said that as of Thursday night, the president’s treatment plan was still being discussed. So was a possible national address or a videotaped statement from the president to demonstrate that he was functioning and that the government is uninterrupted.

Correct. Most people are asymptomatic the first week. It’s during the second week where the patient either gets better, or gets worse. Even then, there is nothing written in stone. Some people get better, get worse, get better, get worse, and it lasts for months.

Just hours before President Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19, he was mingling with fundraisers at an event held at his New Jersey golf club—and even posed for personal photo-ops with supporters. The event went ahead after the White House learned that one of the president’s closest aides, Hope Hicks, had tested positive for the disease, according to multiple reports.

Trump was last seen in public Thursday afternoon, when he headed home to the White House after the fundraising trip to Trump National Golf Club in Bedminister. Ahead of that event, attendees were promised a photo opportunity with the president, and Trump was due to meet with the winner of a raffle organized to raise funds for his campaign. It appears that, despite Hicks’ test, the event went ahead as planned…. and Trump reportedly delivered a droplet-spraying speech. According to the Washington Post, Trump didn’t wear a mask at the golf club, or on the plane back to Washington, D.C. The president then tested positive after he had returned to the White House.

Most studies have concluded that HCQ is effective if given early, so presumably, if he is going to take it, he has already started. He did take it once before, so it is possible. For some bizarre reason, in the US, the only Emergency Use Authorization for HCQ was an authorization to give it late, to already hospitalized patients. That is not only likely to be ineffective, but may be harmful as well, so it is good that they withdrew it. It should have been replaced with an EUA allowing it to be given to patients as soon as they test positive, however.

Here’s a link to all the HCQ studies out there:

For what it’s worth, the same appears to be true of Ivermectin, Remdesivir, and favapiravir; they are most effective if given early. If you are giving a drug to stop replication, it only makes sense to give it during the phase where the virus is replicating, about days 1-7, when there are few, if any, symptoms. India has found that Ivermectin was more effective than HCQ, but there are a lot less studies on Ivermectin. There are, so far as I know, no studies of favapiravir or remdesivir being given early.

I’m willing to bet, though, that while the US standard practice is to send people home to see if they recover on their own, and won’t treat them until they are in really bad shape, Trump will get some sort of early treatment.

Eddie_T

Any anti-viral will only be effective in the virus replication cycle, before serious disease on set. There is no study I know of that claims Remdesavir has any effect on outcomes of people with C19. The risk envelope (renal and liver failure) is significant, whereas for hcq and ivermectin it is closer to completely safe than aspirin.
