I am pleased to report a global backlash against woke madness, climate change silliness, and immigration polices is underway in the US, Europe, and Australia.
The New Moral Order Is Crumbling
Globalism, climate-change alarmism, and cultural self-annihilation have all come under serious challenge. It’s a welcome start to a Well-Deserved Thrashing of the New World Order.
In Lampedusa, the Italian island midway between Europe and Africa, and at Eagle Pass, Texas, and elsewhere along the visible and increasingly invisible frontiers that separate the global North from the South, the idea of permissive migration in an economically unequal world is being tested to destruction. Lampedusa was inundated last week with another surge of migrants from Africa, larger than the population of the island itself. In Texas, the influx across the border with Mexico became a torrent.
The demographic tsunami from the global South as the North’s population shrinks is in its early stages, and most people can see clearly what happens when leaders insist on a moral code that suggests our obligations to indigent foreigners are as great as those to our own citizens. It won’t survive the political backlash now under way in both Europe and America, as even U.S. Democrats and Brussels Eurocrats are slowly starting to grasp.
The second pillar, the moral imperative of self-abasing action to combat climate change, is falling too—most interestingly again in Europe and the U.K., where it has long been the official religion of the secularist priesthood.
There is an air of surrealism around the climate-change debate in Britain and in much of Europe. The U.K. has dramatically reduced carbon emissions over the past 30 years, thanks in significant part to technological innovation. Its emissions per capita are now down to where they were in the mid-19th century. The British government could mandate tomorrow the elimination of all carbon emissions and a return to agrarian subsistence, and, given the massive and rapidly rising levels of emissions from China, India and elsewhere, it wouldn’t make the slightest difference to the climate.
The third pillar—cultural self-annihilation—is also wobbling.
The most interesting evidence of this is an electoral debate under way in Australia. The left-wing government there, eager to impress the world with its moral bona fides, has called for a reform to the constitution designed to redress the grievances of the Aboriginal population. Called the Voice to Parliament, the measures would create a constitutional body that Parliament would be required to consult on all legislative and other matters relating to indigenous peoples.
The referendum that was expected to approve this change takes place next month, but the campaign has run into fierce opposition. The most recent polls suggest Australians will reject the move by a large majority. It seems they—like many of us in the rest of the West—have had enough of leaders’ insistence on dividing us by race and other attributes rather than uniting us around our common national identity.
New York Mayor Eric Adams Says Migrant Crisis “Will Destroy New York City”
Adams wants Biden to do something. That something is the same as always. NYC wants a bailout of policies it put in place.
The City has a right-to-shelter mandate, which requires the city to provide a bed to anyone who asks for one.
Adams now says the city will ask judge to suspend right-to-shelter rules for migrants. There either is a right or there isn’t. Since the city was stupid enough to agree to the right, I suggest the city end that right instead of asking a judge for temporary help and Biden for more money.
The Gothamist notes “More than 110,000 migrants have come to the city over the last year, and around 60,000 are currently living in the city’s shelter system at a cost of billions of dollars annually, according to city officials.”
Check out this Irony
Adams has demanded more help from the state and federal governments, and has especially pressured the White House to expedite work permits for migrants so that they may eventually be able to leave the shelter system.
On Wednesday night, the Biden administration announced the U.S. would extend temporary protected status to some Venezuelans, allowing them to remain in the country legally and apply for work permits.
Adams thanked the president for his actions, which he estimated would help roughly 9,500 adult migrants who are currently in the city’s care.
Adams praises the president for “temporary” protected status to Venezuelans that will protect 9,500 in NYC while asking a judge to suspend rights to shelter.
Adams has lost his marbles.
Suing. Heckling. Cursing. N.Y.C. Protests Against Migrants Escalate
The New York Times reports Suing. Heckling. Cursing. N.Y.C. Protests Against Migrants Escalate
In August, after weeks of protests over the school being used as a shelter, Staten Island officials went to court to block the city’s plans, and secured a brief victory when a judge issued a temporary restraining order that prevented city officials from placing migrants at the St. John Villa Academy shelter, as reported by the Staten Island Advance.
But the city won its emergency appeal and the judge’s ruling was overturned. So residents turned to other measures — heckling migrants who came looking for shelter and protesting loudly.
Then the speaker appeared. Blasting a rotation of messages in five different languages,
The Children Win In North Carolina
I am pleased to report that The Children Win In North Carolina
North Carolina on Friday became the tenth state to approve universal school choice. Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper says he won’t veto the bill passed by the Legislature, no doubt because Republicans have enough votes to override.
The fight illustrated both the importance of Republican unity and the vulnerabilities of Democrats who take orders from the teachers union and ignore parents. In May, when legislators signaled their intentions, Gov. Cooper released a video declaring a “state of emergency.” “It’s clear,” he said, “that the Republican legislature is aiming to choke the life out of public education.”
The emergency stunt did nothing but make the Governor look weak. It also highlighted his double standard. Mr. Cooper was happy to choose private school for one of his daughters. But when the legislators were ready to give North Carolinians the same choice, suddenly it was an attack on public schools.
Backlash in Chicago
In Chicago, the president of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is facing backlash for choosing to send her child to a private school despite previously opposing school choice efforts.
A Step in the Right Direction: UK Prime Minister Trashes Climate Change Goals
On September 21, I cheered a A Step in the Right Direction: UK Prime Minister Trashes Climate Change Goals
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced he will push back a ban on selling new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035, slow down plans to phase out gas boilers, and reject calls to regulate efficiency for homeowners.
Perhaps this is an election ploy. Regardless, it’s the right move. If the whole world switched to EVs it would not make a damn bit of difference for the climate in the long term.
In the short term, it’s inflationary madness because neither the infrastructure or supply chains are in place for a radical push.
EVs don’t do a damn thing for the environment. See Biden’s Solar Push Is Destroying the Desert and Releasing Stored Carbon
And to top it off, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has concluded Biden’s mileage standards have “Net benefits for passenger cars remain negative across alternatives” vs doing nothing at all.
See The Shocking Truth About Biden’s Proposed Energy Fuel Standards
Those are the right reasons to kill this insane push. And it’s safe to add inflation to the mix, not that additional reasons are needed.
Increasing Backlash Everywhere
There’s increasing backlash everywhere. It out to be a wakeup call for Progressives but I guarantee you they will sleep right through it.
The beneficiary is obvious, Republicans, especially Trump.

The world has been here before but not with humans. The next ice age won’t be pretty. Humans think too linearly so they are destined for failure.
I guarantee we’ll like it better than a 200 foot glacier sitting on top of where your house and town used to be if you live in the northern part of the US.
That and Canada will be all but gone.
Nice thought, but it wasn’t 200 feet – it was 2 miles.
live on morraine from last ice age that goes down spine of long island north shore from brooklyn to suffolk county. sandy beaches south. the last ice age left such great things.
Well stated Mish.
“The only way to have a child would be via government approval and temporary removal of the contraceptive”. So the government decides who gets to have children and how many ? Wow talking about a kooky idea this is it . How about the government allows people who agree with them to have kids anyone who doesn’t no kids for you.
The goverment just has them neutered like we do pets . Of course anyone who works for the government can have all the children they want . Maybe we just skip that and let the government decide who gets access to food so we can starve them to death before they can reproduce .
Seems you can’t or won’t see where we’re headed: little by little your choices are being removed and your government is deciding for you. We’re in the pot and the water is getting hotter. If you’re smart enough to jump out, where will you land? This situation is not unique to USA unfortunately.
Jumping out of the pot that is the USA is the biggest nuclear bluff there is. For every 1,000 frustrated Americans who bemoan the death of the USA, only one or two actually leave. I call your all in.
Tons of wealthy people leave and renounce citizenship. Many people who leave don’t because they’re under some foreign earned income exemption.
You should read up on subjects before posting claptrap. In recent years, the number of people renouncing U./S. citizenship ranges typically between 2k-6k. Nothing but a rounding error in a country with 350 million people.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relinquishment_of_United_States_nationality
One way to control the population explosion in the ghettos is to allow welfare payment for one illegitimate child only. After that no more additonal money. Also should be a felony if you are abusing drugs or alcholol during pregnancy. Those children born form substance abusing mothers are 100% of the time in the system either in jail or in the mental health system They are permanently and irreparably harmed by this. I am in wonder why this has never been addressed.
With no additional money they just resort to theft in order to get food, medicine and other things (no one starves willingly).
If you jail them, it costs more than just paying their welfare. Not to mention what would you do with their kids while you put the mothers in jail? Are you willing to foster kids?
Sometimes you have to pay the higher costs to enforce a behavior.
I suggest we put the kids in a foster home right next to the prison, with a couple of cyclone fences separating the two by 10 feet. Then the moms and dads can watch their kids grow up under foster care.
The reason people want to leave where they were born is poor government and excessive birth rate, producing more bodies than the local economy can support.
Unless a way can be found to quickly and cleanly kill off a significant portion of the excess population in these areas, there is no other easy solution.
Long-term, everyone should be implanted with contraceptives’ at puberty that would prevent pregnancy. The only way to have a child would be via government approval and temporary removal of the contraceptive.
This is of course, unworkable in our present world. Perhaps when AI’s take over, national borders are abolished and one world government under an AI is implemented, that will change.
the final solution? where have i heard that before?
Not remotely the same. D’oh.
Today at lunch every conversation around us was in Spanish. However, they were dressed for golf. Where I live in Colorado the Spanish were never here. The forts have either French or English names. The cities have either English, Araphaoe, or Cheyenne names. The Spanish were never here, yet they are now.
If they are dressed for golf then they are assimilating. Dressing like you are at the golf course is very much not in Latin American culture. They may be speaking Spanish but their kids probably don’t except in the house and even there they respond in English. Kids have this strange way of choosing instinctively the most useful language around them.
You have obviously never played golf around Mexico City.
America was built upon the concept of British Rule of Law. The Spanish don’t have that value and their amada was defeated by the Brits a few centuries ago. Today it looks like the Brits will lose, and the rule of law will fall to the will of the sorveign. Knowing that can I convince my children to abandon the city to farming land in Kansas? No!!
A go fund me (State of Texas) page should be created to keep the buses of migrants flowing at a clip of 1000,s per day to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, and Denver.
I think the donation amount would be massive.
I have yet to meet anyone who changed their lifestyles due to climate change. Only due to inflation.
Unlike you, I have met innumerable people who have bought one or more EVs, be they hybrid or full EV. Now you have the chance to play the Sithian absolutist and say you meant they had to change every single aspect of their life.
lots of mass transit in cities sucks shit. phoenix sucked and filled with vagrants and went hardly anywhere. NYC subway and busses are wonderful and get you anywhere fast. and filled with working folks during normal hours from 7am to 11pm. a few homeless here and there, but minimal. about 90% better than back in the 70s and 80s. things change. cities are different. go to japan if you want to see civilization at it’s best. amerika is a failing empire. many cities. and rural areas troubled by dumbfucks and drugs. nyc is filled with hard working immigrants. it’s grand.
You want to see civilization at its best – take a ride on the Moscow subway.
moscow good. japan the best. and most of europe rail delightful.
Mayor Adams does not want to stop the invasion by illegal alien criminals. He just wants senile Joe to move them to other places and have them turn those places into crime ridden sewers.
Sunak’s 5 year delay is a bad joke. Either get rid of it or implement it.
As a rule, politicians and bureaucrats don’t care a whit what people think
“to expedite work permits for migrants”
So what good is that going to do? The median rent in NYC is $4250.
10 hours a day every single day at $15 an hour leaves one with about $10 a day for everything else.
They will work 2 or 3 jobs each and sleep 4 or 5 to a room. Something ‘muricans couldn’t even conceive of.
And they will learn to squat in empty houses when they find them.
horse shit about rents here in gotham. i know dozens of “20 somethings living for 1k per month. 3 bedrooms in brooklyn queens split between 3 or 4 young adults. what rubbish is on this thread and blog. get out and walk around a city FFS
no auto needed. saves huge. great food, cheap in ethnic hoods. jobs a plenty.
Boomer, you’re living in 1997. Rent is $4500 a month for a 1 bedroom in Manhattan, no one wants to ride the failing, dangerous subway for forty minutes into Manhattan to work at real jobs. The people paying $1k a month are living in a literal closet and sharing an apartment. What you are describing are legitimately third world style conditions. Cars cost practically nothing in comparison.
you nit wit. you have no clue. at all. but alas no doubt a 3rd base native born who can’t handle life changing. you are truly dumbfuck. the 1000 per bedroom for a gorgeous brownstone or limestone 30 minutes from soho. plus nobody commutes anymore. you dumbfuck.
i ride the MTA twice per week for college classes for fun. i have yet to see a mugging or anything violent in past 2.5 years i’ve been back. unplug the idiot box and get out and stop clutching pearls. or better yet tell all your nit wit pals i see at least 5 murders per week and they shouldn’t ever think about living here. it’s a horrible life. btw, college if free for boomer age over 60 at CUNY. free is cheap for the nitwit crowd. no need to give a fuck about price of gasoline or EV or whatever……………
I live in another major city and have had schizo homeless threaten to assault me while walking around. The city, by the way, is absolutely horrible and recent trends (SFHs exploding in value outside of the city limits) has demonstrated revealed preference.
Public transit is mostly for poor people anyways, but unfortunately it’s become unusable in US cities.
Great when you are young but if you want to have kids then it is much more difficult. What you are describing is dorm living which is fine when you are in your early twenties. If you are still living like that when you hit thirty then you have made a serious career error somewhere.
It was not fine in my early twenties and I didn’t do it.
Exactly, just like San Francisco. Been there multiple times this year, and 90% of the city is as nice as it was when I moved away 20 yrs ago. Sure a third of the town smells like weed constantly, but that’s de rigeur in most places these days.
For all the whining about Dems using talking points, the right wing talking points make themselves much more transparent than their backers think.
It’s a city without kids now.
There is the cowboy who learns by reading about it, and the cowboy by watching others, but there is always the cowboy (Eric Adams) that learns by pissing on the electric fence himself.
Who is really pissing on the fence, Adams or Abbot, the latter who is “doing the commies work for them” by bussing more migrants deeper into the US. Didn’t you all want to toss them back into Mexico, not seal the deal getting them as deep into the US as you can? As if a few busloads is gonna break a city. Bring it on.
Sorry to disappoint everyone but nothing is going to change. What is going to happen is the main vocal people (boomers) against “woke, climate, and immigration” will mostly die off over the next 10 years and those that are still alive will simply be called old cranks like that drunk racist uncle you have to deal with at Thanksgiving.
As for climate change the ‘free market’ is letting everyone know there is a problem. The first big one is insurance companies bailing on certain regions.
https://finance.yahoo.com/video/insurance-companies-retreat-climate-related-214657584.html
Next up will be the huge cost of repairing roads and bridges that buckle due to extreme heat. All sorts of new taxes, fees, etc will go up to pay for it.
Then water mains that keep busting and costing millions to repair. There will be new fees for expanded drainage and reservoirs for areas that get 500 year floods every other year.
I say things things because that’s what happened here this past summer and few years and it will only spread to other regions eventually.
But everyone will believe whatever they want to make themselves feel better about themselves. I research these things to profit and know what areas to avoid in the future. California and Florida are at the top of my list to avoid. Anything west of the Rockies will eventually be desert over time.
correcto mundo.
Agree. Well said.
You are either Cassandra or Chicken Little. I wonder which one you will turn out to be.
Those who choose to live in ignorance will just dig in and hope to survive
“California and Florida are at the top of my list to avoid. Anything west of the Rockies will eventually be desert over time.”
The Southwest has been a desert for a very long time. Mulholland built the California aqueduct, because the L.A. area didn’t have enough water for a large future population.
I heard on the news the other day, that L.A. is building a water recycling plant. Orange County has one already.
desal plant in mexico baja sea. to bring water to AZ. i think israeli tech.
The whole thing stinks.
And will even more when the sewage processing systems begin to fail.
FYI – I am not an “old crank” I am a curmudgeon.
And don’t call me churly.
You forgot about the plague of locusts. You sound like a preacher preaching about the devil. Can I buy some indulgences from you? Can you please take my confession. You just proved to everyone what a religious cult this whole thing is. Nice going.
i’m going out on a limb to question whether mish readers understand that immigration to usa in 1800s and 1700s and 1600s were far bigger percentages. the pearl clutching in 21st century is off the charts. the anti immigrant sentiment mish and many other exhibit is as old as mankind itself. this is anthropology 101. what scared little things. it must be frightening to live like that. i live in brooklyn and go to manhattan thrice per week. i don’t detect anything wrong. in fact the high percent of immigrants here is like early 1900s before the drawbridge went up for 50 years. they work hard, commit less crime, and study and save more than native borns. i LOL at the fat dumb boomers who are so anti immigrant. i’m a fat boomer with half a brain. i feel like einstein on this forum.
We desperately need them, unless we all want to start having a lot more kids. But nobody wants to hear that.
I speak Spanish, and I work with immigrant kids in the schools. Their parents are working multiple jobs, living 4 or 5 to a bedroom, and saving up their money to make their kids lives better. Literally identical lifestyle to say… the Irish in the 1800s.
These are people we need and should want here.
People don’t have children because male / female dynamics have deteriorated and adult things like housing cost a fortune. These people you reference are net drains, with poor outcomes, and they make many areas unlivable for families because they ruin the schools.
Net drains my ass. Want your car fixed? House fixed? Street paved?
They’re the Irish of the 21st century.
Yeah, and they get tons of tax credits and quality for every handout under the sun! Enjoy your 2/10 schools!

‘The current net fiscal cost of illegal aliens in the U.S.
is between $84 and $94 billion per year.’
LOL Heritage. Ok.
I listen to the people who want to make money and like numbers.

The menial labors they do will become superfluous as robots become able to do blue-collar jobs. Then what becomes of them? Train them to be web developers? Stock market day traders? Why incur that responsibility? Send them all home and let them improve their birth countries with their “desirable” skills.
Here is an incredible advancement!

Toyota says its new AI robot can master complex tasks in hours
By Joshua Hawkins
September 21, 2023
Engineers working with Toyota, MIT, and Columbia Engineering have shown us just how crazy AI robot learning can be. In a new video, the Toyota Research Institute shows off how its AI robot was able to master complex tasks in a matter of hours, something that many previously thought impossible.
Learning that AI is progressing faster than we expected might trigger your fight-or-flight instincts. But, in this particular case, the robots aren’t learning how to destroy their human overlords. Instead, they’re learning how to do more complex tasks, like cutting vegetables, spreading peanut butter over a slice of bread, and even whisking eggs.
While these might seem like relatively mundane tasks, teaching an AI robot to do them autonomously is a thrilling development. As humans, we can quickly figure out how to carefully cut objects, or even how to spread jam or peanut butter over toast. But robots don’t have those instincts.

Walt….
Who wants to emulate a desperate Irishman in the 1800s as if that is peak of Human evolution?????
Who wants to live like someone from a Mexican Country 5 people to a bedroom and working 2 jobs to do so???
Why don’t you and your family live like that if you feel it is something to aspire to???
Of course. Many don’t even like Anglo Saxon culture. Most are tribal, collectivist and dependent on authority. Extremely passive people aren’t what this country was designed for, although ward healers and ambitious pols love them.
TT’s comments are the reason nothing will change “I don’t experience the problem personally so it is not a problem for anyone.”
Parachute TT into Eagle Pass or anywhere else then he changes his tune only if he is personally effected. The fact that the US has a housing shortage, exploding deficits, rampant crime, homelessness (list goes on and on) is not what he talks about, but about the US from 100s of years ago, like that is relevant in any way to today’s world, comparing it back to when the world had billions and billions fewer people, travel was difficult, there was no social safety net… (another endless list).
TT’s statement is a non-sequitur that does not discuss the problem in front of us today. If you think mass immigration is not a problem today, discuss today’s world:
– Government budgets and services
– Whether those budgets meet the needs of people already living here
– If not, where does that money for more services come from? If there is more budget to be found, why is not found already?
– There is mass homelessness in the country. Is that a lie? Do you think mass immigration has any effect on that? Do you think there is enough housing for millions of low to no income migrants? If yes, where is it and why aren’t the homeless there now? If not, where does it come from?
– While you personally are not effected by mass immigration , do the people who are voicing an opinion different from yours matter to you at all? If not, why not?
– If you think mass migration is not a problem, how to you address this issue with the world in front of us today, discussing modern society, and not comparing it to a world long past?
TT argument comes down to “immigrants good”, “Americans bad” and virtue signalling that he is better because of his opinion. Multiply it by millions and nothing will change until everything burns down.
i lived in AZ for over a dozen years. you are a bed wetter. get a grip on reality. go see what homelessness was like when boston and nyc were booming immigrant destinations in 1800s. you’ll live sister. i’m sure you were born on 3rd base and have never been to a poor country. try russia in the late 90s. you’d have needed a fainting couch.
No one cares about the 1800s, I don’t think people had to dodge schizophrenic fentanyl addicts in every major city back then either.
You need to read more history. The hysteria about the Irish was easily as crazy as the hysteria about Mexicans and Venezuelans now.
The fentanyl addicts are all white, fyi.
Yes, because what you read about some alleged ‘hysteria’ is obviously true from 1870. Just like what you can read in the Washington Post today is obviously true! Turning the US into an extension of Latin America is wonderful, so what if you’ll live in an overtly one-party state because these people will never not vote for freebies and allowing more of their family to come over? We’re close to the California model being applied the entire country, if we’re not there already.
life was much more dangerous in 1800s. and even worse in 1700s…..than today’s worse cities and counties. learn something. read some history.
In the 1800s there was a frontier for immigrants to fill up. There was enough water to go around. There were enough trees to supply the wood needed to heat their houses in the winter, then when the trees started to get scarce no one minded coal furnaces in town.
None of that is true now.
We still have abundant land and resources. The rust belt is full of empty houses. We have no kids…
I could go on and on. This will all get more obvious over the next couple decades as the boomers die off, but by then it’ll be too late. We committed demographic suicide because we didn’t want brown people.
correct. these old boomers and native borns are bed wetters. give them a bunky to suck on.
Back in the good old days of the birth of the USA, it took initiative to get there and those who made it, didn’t get handouts forced from the existing population. They did bring their culture but found the place was a “melting pot” and had to fit in rather than demand changes to suit them.
To make it, they had to find their own way without help from the government. Perhaps society was more charitable then, I don’t know.
I don’t think the reason for emigration has changed much but the cost to the receiving country certainly has – those now arriving do not have to make it on their own and too many choose not to.
I don’t have the full story but it seems to me that our socialist system discourages the work ethic – but not just in immigrants.
You can’t blame the immigrants for taking what we offer – they didn’t demand it, we did.
When you don’t have a good argument, just insult the other side. That is a sure sign you don’t have a good argument.
As if it’s not civilizational suicide to replace yourself with aliens. All these people do is further entrench some sort of one party state.
I believe the illegals will eventually vote not to include more illegals.
No wonder all the downvotes, Americans like to think the USA isn’t filled with xenophobic and racist sentiment. But when stereotypical Bud Light drinkers want to murder their brand for promoting tolerance and inclusion, there’s two ways to look at that, honestly, and in complete denial of facts.
We think China is making the big mistakes now with demographics. We are being sucked right into that hole along with them.
There is legal immigration and illegal immigration. The two are not the same.
Tolerance & inclusion and grooming are not the same thing. Neither is CRT tolerance and inclusion. CRT is intentionally divisive.
As the boomers die off and rational management disappears the country will disintegrate into socialistic political feudalism.
Its not that people don’t want foreigners. First the govt should streamline immigration and obtaining citizenship. The current system is archaic and counterproductive. If you want to come here , there will be no govt free lucnh, you work you pay taxes. The current system is fubb. I mentioned before that I live in Mi. We have the highest population of middle easter immigrants in the US. Many have a lot of business’s and are well off. However, most are somehow collecting free shit like food stamps, free health insurance etc etc. Meanwhile they get into their esclades and drive to the bank and laugh. Leaves a bad taste for most people.
True but starting in the 1920’s immigration was almost cut off which greatly facilitated the integration of the immigrants into American society.
Imagine what it would be like to buy food in the USA if we didn’t have millions of immigrants hand-harvesting our food. Americans are way too fat, lazy, and pompous to do hard work. You couldn’t pay most people like that $25/hr to pick produce in the field, but offer a constant anti-immigrant and brown people rhetoric and offer $7/hr and those folks will kill themselves and send half back to motherland. Talk about the value of honest hard work.
Immigrants kept cities from decaying in the 1980s, New York being a prime example. I guess they really stabbed all the anti-city “urban folks are commies” crowd right in the eyes.
– If we didn’t have millions of immigrants hand-harvesting our food.
We don’t, and who hand harvested food anymore in America, umm.. that would be Nobody!
– You couldn’t pay most people like that $25/hr to pick produce in the field.
We shall see about that… I would venture to guess within the next 2 years, with the ensuing rip-roaring Recession on its way, you will be able to find Plenty of Americans to do so.
exactly correct. these haters are also ignorant. which goes hand in hand.
Completely agree. Send all the illegals to NYC and see how great this will be for the city. Great idea.
Back then it was legal immigration and those that came over had families to care for them until they got on their feet. They were self sufficient and productive. Now they are on the tits of the system and are parasitic.
Yes, you are absolutely correct about what happened back then. And there was a terrible backlash that literally stopped immigration (legal and illegal) for decades because of it. You forgot about that part didn’t you. Do your research a bit better.
Even when the “CLEAR MAJORITY” turn against these pushes, the Marxist/S O C I A L I S T/Communist in the USA, will “NOT TURN BACK”!!!!
(New York mayor Eric) “Adams has lost his marbles.”
IMO, it was the voters in NYC who voted for him that lost their marbles. Petitioning Biden to restore those lost marbles won’t fix any problem either, especially as he can’t find his own.
The marbles are probably rolling around in the overhead.
Thanks for bringing these topics up for discussion Mish! Many stay away from some, but most stay away from them all, so it’s quite refreshing.
Globalism – Has got to go. Living creatures do not belong placed in boxes. We are all very unique and different, and I believe that was the intent.
Climate-Change Alarmism – For the Money Spent already, to play God and try to rule the Climate, is simply preposterous IMO. Even if successful for a 1 degree change, it would be absolutely meaningless in the overall picture. In fact the Energy Cost and Pollution alone, would offset the minuscule difference it achieved over decades.
Cultural Self-Annihilation – Loss of identity is beyond most peoples imagination. Ask a Person in solitary for a month, and they will understand. Ask someone raised by a Narcissist and haven been awakened and they will know.
Culture is Identity, and History of that Identity. Culture is what we should “Strive to Preserve” History is doomed to repeat itself, if we don’t save and learn from it! Human nature leads all to temptation, but the difference in being able to repel that temptation, is the Education and Understanding of why and where it leads if you do so…
What I would do:

Illya Kuryakin just died.
Man from uncle character? Please explain.
School Choice is a huge and overdue win! Let those who are imprisoned in failing school districts take their kids to schools where learning can actually take place.
Long overdue! This insanity shouldve never got this far to begin with!
Trump failed to shoot the invading brigade. Ten deaths, the rest wouldn’t have come.
It’s the free sh-t that draws flies.
The highest concentration of private schools is in the DC surrounding areas . These politicians send their kids to private schools and mandate rediculous curriculum for the masses . The same crowd like Gore ,Kerry and DiCaprio who push globull warming and create a thousand times more co2 than the average person these people are sick. They have no intentions of changing their lifestyle yachting and jet setting all while they raise the cost of energy ,taxes on the average person . The mayor New York is a joke his comments about immigration before they showed up on his doorstep and then after is comical and shows his total ignorance . Just like the residents of Marthas vineyard fighting to keep wind farms of their coast these people are hypocrites.
To be fair. No one in their right mind would send their kids to DC public schools. The surrounding counties, outside of PG, have good schools.
Not surprised at the climate change backlash.
In today’s world, people want to see instant results. Which is simply not possible with the global warming problem. It took 200 years to go from 280 ppm (CO2) to 418 ppm and still rising, and it will probably take 200 years to get back to 280.
The energy transition that the world has been attempting for the last few decades has barely made a dent in the problem. And the cost to actually make more meaningful changes is enormous. And no one wants to pay that price when we still can’t see any significant progress.
Instead, the problem will grow increasingly worse as ghg levels keep increasing and we will spend more and more on adaptation and mitigation.
We will continue to use more oil and gas each year and the oil companies are going to be gushing cash flow.
Got oil?
so many pacific rim volcanoes shooting off last year or 2 green doesn’t matter
Got nuclear?
Fission nuclear won’t do it. Got fusion?
“In today’s world, people want to see instant results.”
It’s not just today’s world, it’s been that way forever. Nothing in nature is designed to work on time scales that last decades or centuries (man, animals etc). In other words, no one would ever start at diet at age 20 that would take until age 60 to see weight loss results. It’s why it’s so hard to get people to save for retirement too.
I suspect that’s why we always get these silly headlines about the world ending in 10 years or Florida underwater in 10 years etc. 10 years seems ‘close enough’ that some people might pay attention.
If there is really a problem and if it can get solved, it will get solved in that moment of time and no sooner.
Assuming of course that is caused by ONLY one thing and one thing only.
Check the library for a book by David Archer called The Long Thaw.
I forget how long it would take to get CO2 levels down again, but it was long enough to prevent the next glaciation due to start in 3,000 years, give or take.
No need to wait 3000 years for the next cooling cycle. The earth was already slowly and naturally cooling for the last few thousand years. But mankind put an end to that by increasing CO2 from 280 to 418 ppm in the last 200 years. Probably would have been a good thing if we could have stopped it around 320-350 ppm. But now we are headed to a place not seen for several million years. And we are not going to like it.
Triggering the anti-science coalition, you must be doing something right.
The advantages of increasing CO2 tend to start tapering off after around 1000 ppm. But then again who cares about agriculture. Certainly not the Africans or Chinese or East Indians.
Hate to break it to you, but higher CO2 levels may be the only thing that helps us survive the global famine the the next decade. The molecule is much more benign in the atmosphere than many actual pollutants, and is safe at many times the current PPM levels. No CO2, no plants. Lower CO2, less food.
Lol. Your concern for plants is touching. But focusing on plants rather than humans is very Darwinian of you. Time for you to move on from grade 5 science.
“ The molecule is much more benign in the atmosphere than many actual pollutants, and is safe at many times the current PPM levels. No CO2, no plants. Lower CO2, less food.”
With “no” CO2 the earth becomes a frozen ice ball with an average temperature of (minus) -18c. Not much good for any life, including humans.
At “many times” today’s CO2 levels of 418, the earth becomes a hothouse. All the ice melts, oceans are 400 feet higher, lush plants in Antartica; but humanity, and most animal life, struggle to survive.
The key is to keep CO2 in the best range for all life on earth; not just for plants.
Around 300 ppm is ideal for all current life on earth, including humanity, because those were the levels during the last 10000 years when life (as we know it today) developed. However, in just the last 200 years, we have changed the CO2 level from around 300 to over 400, and headed to 500.
And most life on earth will struggle to survive the change in temperature and climate.
What a bunch of nonsense. Did you just copy and paste stuff from a google search?
Earth has had higher CO2 levels and life did just fine.
Yes. Much higher levels of CO2 in the past Kidhorn. But man wasn’t around then. Do you know what the environment was like when CO2 was 2500 ppm? Certainly not survivable by most lifeforms on the planet today, including man.
We are conditioned by 10000 years of 300 ppm CO2. Change it rapidly (like we are currently doing) and mankind will suffer a lot over the next several hundred years.
Fortunately I won’t be around to see it all go to crap. Nor can I do anything about it. All I can do is profit from the situation while I am alive.
I like well presented ideas whether I agree with them or not. Yet No solid reason to believe it’s true. Man has a history of adapting,
Adapting?
I believe that is how mankind became toolmakers.
All life adapts to changing conditions. The slower the changes happen, the greater the chance of adaptation. CO2 changing by 100 ppm happens naturally over periods of 10000 to 100000 years. With timeframes like that, life can readily adapt to the change. But mankind has caused the same change in around 100 years. Which makes adaptation much more difficult physiologically.
“Around 300 ppm is ideal for all current life on earth, including humanity, because those were the levels during the last 10000 years when life (as we know it today) developed. However, in just the last 200 years, we have changed the CO2 level from around 300 to over 400, and headed to 500.”
Old Testament possibly aside: The vast, vast majority of life developing into what it is today, took place long before 10K years ago. By 10K ago, development was largely done, viewed from where we are today.
Life has been developing for darned near ever. Across CO2 concentrations which have been all over the place. Environmental flexibility, is THE defining characteristic of life. It pretty much sucks at any one fixed task, compared to purpose built machines. But is so adaptive, darned near nothing can wipe it out. Certainly not a slight (in historically terms) change in soda bubbles.
Fossil fuel carbon is “fossil” for a reason: It was once available above ground, before ever flexible and opportunistic life found a way to bind it in quantities great enough to allow it to get fat and sink. It is hence unlikely in the extreme, that putting a small share of that CO2 back (total, global, recovery rates of fuels, will always remain darned low in absolute terms, even at 100, or 1000, x current fossil fuel prices.)
And, again: If the earth was getting too hot to support life, even human life; you would see that demonstrated by what life there was, clustering around the coldest spots, the poles. Instead, in reality, the exact opposite is the case: Everyone and everything lives in Africa and South Asia and the Amazon. While the poor saps stuck in butt cold New York, are doing their darndest to get to Florida.
The current uptick in immigration may indicate that the equatorial regions are starting to lose a tiny bit of their multi thousand year edge as a place to live, in favour of more northern climes. But we’re still a long, long way from Siberia being where everyone and everything wants to live. Leaving Siberia, Canada et al, massive-capacity buffers against any form of realistic, humanity ending calamity caused by a slight rise in temperatures.
IOW: Far and away the cheapest way to deal with “climate change”, is still to slightly altering one’s wardrobe, and/or going where the weather suits ones clothes. Anything else, is just ever more nonsense aimed at excusing ever greater government overreach.
10000 years not enough for you?
In the last 800000 years CO2 levels on earth have ranged between a low of 200 ppm and a high of 300 ppm.
It was also 800,000 years ago that early humans almost went extinct, with only around 1200-1300 surviving.
So humanity as we know it today has always lived in a CO2 range of 200 ppm to 300 ppm. Until the last 100 years of course. We have entered brand new territory.
“So humanity as we know it today has always lived in a CO2 range of 200 ppm to 300 ppm.”
Humanity, sure. But not “…all current life on earth, including humanity,…”
Also, if you cherry pick,I’m sure there are all manners of strange “measures” which are now outside of where they have been for the past 10000, or 800000, years. Anything from microplastics, to indoor air pollution, to artificial light at night, to industrial age noise.
Chances are, the same could be said 10000 years ago, about 10000 years prior to that again. If you insist on searching for something which looks to have changed, in a world so complex that the search space contains trillions of candidate “somethings”, it’s virtually impossible that there was ever a time when literally nothing measured outside of previous bands.
Life’s far and away most enduring quality, is flexibility and adaptability. Humans may not have been around to see jungles in the polar regions. But humans seem perfectly adept at living in current jungles, so why assume they’d fail in supposed future Siberian ones? And that’s making the assumption that things will ever get THAT hot from burning fossil fuels alone; before marginal fossil fuel extraction costs goes darned near vertical.
If I was part of reasonably near-future humanity, rather than soon past humaity, I’d be much more concerned about other emissions from coal burning, once wealth drops to the point where burning it cleanly becomes too expensive to be comfortable for the ruling classes. Such that they instead burn it, NIMBY style, across town, or in “flyower country.”
In absolute terms, I suppose the safest would be to emit nothing of anything. Even including CO2. I’m about as big a fan of doing, literally, nothing as anyone. But for most people, doing nothing means starving. So that’s not really an option. And if you have to do something, you’re going to emit. Of all possible things to emit, CO2 is about as benign as emissions get. And furthermore, since all emissions reduction costs money, piling artificial costs on CO2 emissions, WILL result in less wealth. Meaning, less resources available to reduce other, more obviously harmful emissions. In a world with limited resources, choices has to be made wrt what is reduced, since all reduction entail costs. “Reduce everything” may sound appealing to the naive, but reducing everything, including the benign, invariably means you can afford to reduce the truly bad less, than if you focused on that, and paid less attention to the benign.
Why should we go back to 280 ppm CO2?
Is it a magic number like 2% inflation?
In the last 800000 years CO2 levels on earth have ranged between a low of 200 ppm and a high of 300 ppm.
It was also 800,000 years ago that early humans almost went extinct, with only around 1200-1300 surviving. We are all descendants of those early humans.
So humanity as we know it today has always lived in a CO2 range of 200 ppm to 300 ppm.
We could probably adapt to 400 ppm or 500 ppm if the change happened over a hundred thousand years. But we have gone from 300 to 418 ppm in a hundred years.
The last time CO2 levels were over 400 ppm was in the Pliocene era, 2.6 million years ago. Long before modern humans evolved.
Yes, it will only get worse because of China and India. Any climate change progress (if their is any) is going to run through those 2 countries.
Over time our energy sources will change. I just read in July a U.S. team briefly replicated a burst of energy by nuclear fusion. If they can eventually scale that it could be the future of clean power.
Any progress will be minor. There is no reason to believe that we will be able to solve this problem; not by 2100; and certainly not by the 2050 targets.
you are a wise man papa D
Thanks TT. I have some knowledge in this area. Though the knowledge that really matters most to me is knowledge which helps improve my life.
I am also somewhat surprised by how many people here are truly clueless.
No but I have oil stocks. Boy are they way up. I am heavily invested in Fossil Fuel energy productions. I am going to ride the backs of the climate whacko’s to great riches.
And everyone now loves nuclear power and are putting serious money into it. They finally figured out that renewables aren’t going to make it. Wind farms are being cancelled right and left.
seems like a retreat to reality instead of pie in the sky political posturing. yet favor this development. humanity, and all of most of life, needs it.
Solar panel production has been going up every year. At a fast pace.
Yes, in China
The chicken has come home to roost.
Eric Adams has joined the racists. Our boy Eric is slow.
Good news, but the insanity will not stop until we crash. That’s the only way to get results; NY’s system is crashing and it’s great to see, but we need a nationwide crash to destroy the imbeciles once and for all. This is why nations come and go. Brilliant people formed our country, and idiots are now destroying it. So it goes. We get to start over, I guess.
Virtue signalling only lasts as long as other people’s money lasts. Once it runs out and the rubber hits the road when the virtue signaler realizes they are going to have to themselves pay they get religion real quick and decide that maybe this wasn’t the right thing to do after all.
It’s a sigh of relief and a big mess to clean up. Unfortunately many will now be persecuted for making those social issues national and global.
Hopefully most of it can be reversed before too much damage is done.
How?
Cancel the projects and subsidies for all the green energy projects and EV’s. Change legislation where appropriate. It’s not that hard.
Eventually it will get sorted out by the free market if it’s in fact viable.
Do you think the subsidies for oil and gas should be shut down to let the market sort it out too?
Oh sure. And you think that all the companies/people involved in these projects will just roll over and say “thank you. we’ll be on our way now”?
What subsidies for oil and gas? You mean writing off capital expenditure that is available to all companies in the US? If that is what you mean then yes, let’s end that for all companies. Otherwise I don’t know what you are talking about. Please be specific about what subsidies you mean and why they apply only to oil and gas companies. You won’t reply because there are not specific subsidies for oil and gas that don’t also apply to other industries including extractive industries that mine for the precious metals necessary to make the batteries for EV’s. Also did you know that petroleum lubricants are required in large amount for the bearings in windmills. I mean large amounts. 100s of gallons of oil per large windmill that must be replaced every year. You just can’t get rid of this industry no matter how hard you try. If you do try, watch inflation roar out of control.
The people who are still in support of the policies elsewhere (NIMBY) will want the rest of us to pay for their hypocrisy … and sadly … we will.
” Unfortunately many will now be persecuted for making those social issues national and global.” Well let me see here, they persecuted and tried to silence anyone who dared to speak out agaisnt all this crap . Some people lost their jobs and other hardships by speaking out against any of this crap others were marginalized in their jobs and were robbed of opportunities because they didn’t bow to the official narrative and you feel sorry for them ? You really weren’t paying attention to how they operated !!
My feelings are not really for those who caused the mess. I’m really concerned about a retaliatory environment that falls below the level of depravity of their predecessors. I want to see society improve.
Kind of like the NAZI government respose to Covid and those who refused to get vaxed. NYC the poster child in ostracizing and penalizing those who refused the covid vax. Its ok to control your own body when it comes to aborting a baby up until birth according to those same libtards aholes.
yes. here in nyc everyone gets an abortion quarterly, and gets a VAX shot, thrice per day, before the mandatory trannie training and induction at the USMC recruiting station.
More revelation of the reality here.
