Israel Attacks Beirut Hoping to Kill Iran Deal, Gets Rebuke from Trump

No deal today, but there will be a deal.

Trump Rebukes Israel

Truth Social: This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran. Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process. We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down. There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel. This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

The Wall Street Journal reports Trump Rebukes Israel Over Strike on Beirut

President Trump rebuked Israel on Sunday over a strike on Beirut in response to Hezbollah drone attacks, calling it disproportionate and ill-timed just as he was about to reach a deal with Tehran to end the war.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah militants, backed by Iran, has become a persistent hurdle to ending the Iran war. Similar Israeli strikes have led to tense calls between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent weeks.

Israeli officials were taken by surprise by Trump’s post on Sunday, which said “there should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon,” according to a person familiar with the matter. Trump also called on Hezbollah to halt its attacks on Israel.

Senior Iranian officials warned Tehran would retaliate against Israel. The strike “will not be left unanswered,” said Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy head of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which oversees all military forces in the country.

Netanyahu opposes a deal with Iran and has pushed for a return to fighting, according to people familiar with the matter. Netanyahu’s opponents and allies have criticized him for what they have described as a weak deal with Iran and over the perception that the U.S. is putting limitations on how much force Israel can use in Lebanon. Before the Israeli strikes on Sunday, Israel’s finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, had called on the leader to strike in Beirut.

Israeli officials are deeply concerned about the details of the preliminary deal with Iran, particularly that it will likely leave discussions about what to do about Tehran’s nuclear program until later and could potentially help the regime gain access to badly needed funding. Israel also wants to keep pressure on Hezbollah and officials are concerned the deal doesn’t include any mechanisms to prevent Tehran from funding the militant groups it supports throughout the region, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Iran’s Red Line

Purposeful Sabbatoge

The Rumor Mill

More Rumor Mill

I still expect a deal. But I did not expect one today. Trump needs to cave in a bit more, and he will.

The wording needs to make it look as if Trump is winning something. We are not quite there yet.

Trump needs to threaten to halt all aid to Israel and put that on the table.

I repeat my assessment A Deal with Iran Is Finally Close, Seriously. Iran Wins the Showdown

From the BBC:

US President Donald Trump has just posted again about the US-Iran agreement, saying he has succeeded where others have failed.

“This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region,” he writes on Truth Social.

“Many presidents have tried to make Peace with Iran, and all have failed before me. The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace.”

Just give him the Nobel Peace Prize already! Present it to him tonight at the UFC cage match.

TEHRAN, June 15 (Xinhua) — Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said early Monday that Iran and the United States will sign the finalized draft of a peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Switzerland on June 19, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Five days is a long time to keep this from being scuttled.
Telegram channels are reporting that the airspace over Western Iran is now closed, and Iran may retaliate for the Israeli attack on Beirut, which happened after Trump promised that the Zionist Entity would be curbed. Trump is apparently trying to calm the situation.
an Iranian military response on Israel for its attacks on Beirut are on their way, likely before daybreak tomorrow. https://x.com/DanielLDavis1/status/2066214211072438620

Trump desperately wanted something – anything – signed on his birthday. What a self-absorbed weirdo. Bibi messed up Trump’s birthday. Nothing will change as long as Trump listens to his disgusting son in law.

On Meet the Press this morning James Lankford said this deal will be so much better than Obama’s because it will end Iran’s pursuit of nukes “forever”, whereas Obama just limited them for a specified time. I’m so glad we finally got that done. Now we can rest easy forever and Taco can boast how he actually got true peace in the Middle East for the first time in 3000 years. Well, at least until next Tuesday…

Trump is (we are) flailing, going nowhere. Iran or Israel have veto power. Trump lacks veto power to shut either of those down. It is too extreme of a result. Then there is the political veto of the American voters, if their will is not frustrated, this fall. So, more concessions will be extracted by Bibi and Iran which will be mutually inconsistent. Check and checkmate, rather, slog and flail and quagmire, with no endgame visible.

I believe Iran will hold to their end of the deal as long as Israel is truly held in check and U.S. doesn’t pull a fast one. This is so fragile. Netanyahu could find himself in prison a few months from now if he lets go of Lebanon and loses the upcoming election. As for Trump, if this deal pushes through, I expect in due time a sudden leak of Epstein materials pertaining to him. Not to mention this is almost impossible to spin as a victory for Trump, as good as he is at that – $300 billion in war reparations if Iran meets all the conditions. Thus they will both find themselves under intense scrutiny and pressure from the worst sort of people (aka like them).

Pakistan saying a deal is done, signing ceremony on Friday in Switzerland. Pakistan says both sides have declared the “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

Seems hard to believe Israel can make it to Friday without bombing Lebanon

Israel checking in for a signing ceremony might be like one of those viral remote court hearings where the defendant is caught on video in their car with a suspended license.

Judge : “Mr. Netanyahu, the conditions of this agreement specify that you are not to bomb Lebanon. Wait.. are those jet fighters taking off behind you. Where are they headed?”

Netanyahu: “Oh that’s nothing, sir. Ben-Gurion is a busy airport, and we have been hosting visitors from out of town. Military officers.”

Judge: “They looked fully loaded.”

Netanyahu: “Yes, they’ve been drinking, but they aren’t on trial.”

There will be a deal, it will be a bad deal. Israel will continue to be Israel within the Middle East. They won’t stop hitting areas were terrorists act and terrorists won’t stop terrorizing. Nothing will have changed except 4 months of unnecessary inflation, supply constraint, and domestic political damage.

The silliest statement in the news clips above–drag the U.S. back into the war. The US dragged itself into it, unnecessarily, and the US taxpayer should be asking what it’s annual trillion dollar expenditures get them if they can’t keep 21 miles of water open.

Nothing will define the current President more in this term was the unforced error known as Iran.

There will be a deal because not having one runs time off the clock but accomplishes nothing positive and Trump grudgingly understands, far far far too late. Anything positive would take an impossible level of commitment and expense (militarily, politically, economically).

Any advisor that was complicit in this decision should be fired and never hold a job above dog catcher.

And to Mish’s question, the market looks set to rally because, well, that’s what it has done for 17 years. Sure this was a gigantic waste of time, money, political capital…sure this will pressure supply chains for awhile…but no mind, companies and retailers have successfully been able to pass the inflation onto the consumer without any recourse more than any time in human history. You wanna go out to eat, fuel surchage, food surcharge, waitstaff surcharge, facilities surcharge, plus higher prices plus taxes and tip. You want hardware or housing supplies, just pay more… A LOT MORE. And to this point consumers have. Until they cannot or will not, things will continue higher.

There’s no impetus for lower.

Maine looks likely back to red column or tossup. If Alaska can stay red then the so called blue wave will be impeded by the plodding dysfunctional Senate. I mean a ham sandwich had a chance against Collins in Maine and yet a crazed Nazi appeared to make it a tossup or worse.

So inflation, political dysfunction and chaos appear baked into the cake.

Rally on!

It’s unknown, at least from my eyes if Trump can actually walk away from Israel.

Given their political lobby groups, which both the Dems and Repubs fill their pockets from, it will be interesting to see how long this will take, if at all.

I must say though the optics on this for America is extremely disgusting, and the West in general. The US has been on Iran to bend to its will since the 1950s. It has been labeled as part of the Axis of Evil, as well as a terrorist organization. Been under sanctions for 50 years, and in the middle of its worst drought in 100s of years, if not a thousand or more, instead of extending help the US tried to forment a revolution in Iran, and when that failed it tried to use bombs and assassinating its leaders.

You cannot wipe these sins away with signing an MOU, or even a peace deal at this point, for without justice there is no peace. And since the world lacks a unified global leadership signing the MOU truly signals a move not towards peace, but global chaos because the ties that once held global order are now broken (or will be once the MOU is signed). And that’s why every country is gearing up for war.

Iran broke the dam (even if nothing is signed), and as such the waters of hell will reach and flood all the lands across the globe.

For reference, 1925 to 1935, I’d say it takes 10 years. I’d start the clock in 2026 so 2036? That’s the year most boomers should be dead and they’re the primary supporters of the orange clown, and through their religious nonsense, the middle east country in question.

In the long run, nothing will help Israel. It is surrounded by 500 million Muslims and Israel has a pop. of 9 million. The only real enemy any group has is demographics. Tanks, missiles, nukes, ships, drones, etc are all irrelevant in the long run.

“Be fruitful and multiply…” the advice from the big guy, ignore it at your groups own peril. It’s something the tribe and their derivatives never learned and you see the end result now.
