Capital One Closed Trump’s Accounts for Suspicion of Money Laundering

A Trump lawsuit claims politics. Capital One has disclosed the real reason.

Money Laundering Probe

Reuters reports Capital One says it closed Trump Organization’s accounts after anti-money laundering probe

Capital One Financial hit back on Friday against a lawsuit over its decision to close ‌the Trump Organization’s bank accounts years ago, stating that it did so after a review by anti-money laundering experts.

The disclosure marks the first time a bank has formally tied money laundering concerns to U.S. President Donald Trump’s family business. Capital One is seeking to dismiss the case by casting doubt on claims of illegally debanking — or denying services on religious or political grounds — the Trump Organization.

Capital One has never accused the Trump Organization of illegal money laundering. But Friday’s filing argues that “documents and Plaintiffs’ own allegations make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs’ accounts for anti-money laundering (“AML”) reasons. The closures were the result of months of analysis and a careful review by Capital One’s AML team in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidance.”

Capital One gave notice of its plans to close more than 300 Trump-affiliated bank accounts in March 2021. The Trump Organization and Eric Trump, the president’s son, filed a lawsuit in March 2025 in a Florida federal court, alleging the accounts were closed because of Capital One’s “woke” beliefs and its desire to benefit from the political mood after the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The ‌federal court in Miami has tossed two complaints in the Capital One case, but gave the plaintiffs opportunities each time to submit an amended complaint. Capital One said that the latest version, filed in July, “suffers from the same fundamental flaws as their prior two pleadings.”

Capital One said in Friday’s filing that the Trump Organization’s allegations of political pretext were “misguided” and “based on cherry-picked quotations unsupported by the full context” of documents submitted to the court.
The transaction patterns identified by Capital One are among the types of activity flagged by federal banking guidance,” the filing said.

Trump signed an executive order in August 2025 barring discriminatory debanking. In January, Trump filed a suit against JPMorgan Chase , underscoring the fraught policy environment Wall Street is navigating during the president’s second term.

In 2019, during his first term, Trump sued Capital One and Deutsche Bank in an attempt to prevent them from sharing financial records with Congress as part of a probe led by Democratic lawmakers. Anti-money laundering professionals at Deutsche Bank reportedly flagged a set of transactions, but executives ignored them; Deutsche Bank denied the report at the time.

Trump Money Laundering

Gee, who could have thought that.

By filing lawsuit, Trump and the Trump family organization are no ripe for further investigation.

And guess what happens when Democrats win the House.

Winning the House in the midterms will be easy. The Senate is more difficult but doable.

For discussion, please see Don’t Be Shocked if Democrats Take Six Republican Senate Seats

The grim setup for Republicans in the midterms keeps building.

It’s a trap to get Trump & Co to incriminate themselves against criminal activity in civil court. Plaintiffs would have to publicly reveal business activity when arguing the bank made a false conclusion. From TRump’s point of view, this is “Bankfare”, where someone political is attacked through the financial system.

While something may be true, or false, or maybe even both, but the below sort of language makes me think the entire issue is horribly flawed at best…

1. Capital One Closed Trump’s Accounts for SUSPICION of Money Laundering.

2. Capital One has NEVER ACCUSED the Trump Organization of illegal money laundering.

3. The ‌federal court in Miami has TOSSED TWO COMPLAINTS in the Capital One case, but gave the plaintiffs opportunities each time to submit an amended complaint.

4. Capital One said that THE LATEST VERSION WAS AS BAD AS THE LAST ONE.

>> I am certain there is some proof of something, or it would not still be talked about I don’t imagine. How small and insignificant or how big and bold, seems to be the issue at hand. Contradictions galore, and nobody with anything solid enough for more, but yet short of being nothing, so it can be further investigated it seems.

>>> This is also not the Trump Family or Trump the Politician. This is the “Trump Organization” as far as I understand it anyway.

– The Trump Organization, Inc. is an American conglomerate. Privately owned by Donald Trump, it consists of most of Trump’s business ventures and investments, with around 250 of its affiliates and subsidiaries using the Trump name.[5][6][7] Donald Trump joined the organization in 1968, began leading it in 1971, renamed it around 1974, and handed off its leadership to his children in 2017 after he won the 2016 United States presidential election.

Trump may not have anything legally to do with the issues at hand. This is a mess for sure, and I am not suggesting he is not guilty, and maybe he is guilty. Of what and how little or large is the outstanding issue for him now. Not to mention this could take decades to unravel all involved (250+), and gather all the
paperwork needed. This is sort of a moot point at the moment from what I can see. Not enough of anything to do anything with… Yet!

You show a profound ignorance of the way normal litigation works. The complaint is being exposed as insufficient, but rules requires leave for plaintiffs to amend, as much as possible. Capital One on the face of things, performed compliance with the applicable laws, as it should and must. That does not confer a cause of action onto Trump, or Trump Organization, or whatever shell game we are playing. You “honor” the completely fatuous, in fact artificial, distinction between entities Trump Organization and Donald Trump. Thanks for revealing that you play straight into his hands, and you resolve all ignorance in his favor, and trumpet that to others. That’s the only information your comment contains.

It’s better than to find guilt without clear reason to have it be so. He may be guilty, and I am sure he is of many things we don’t know about. You could say that about me or I about you.

My simplistic view, as you would say, is as simple as Facts are, and that’s Meaningful. Without them you have conjecture, blame, accusations, innuendos, speculation, possibilities without facts are endless.

Like I said: “Not enough of anything to do anything with… Yet!”

That should be OK, because there are not enough facts in this particular instance to do anything with. Yet!

Hard to argue with economic facts Mish posts so he mostly just gets related anecdotes.

Trump and or the War is for the most part opinion based since no one knows where any of it will end up or how much it will matter. So of course that’s going to generate a lot of opinion based posting.

I’ve been on this site so long that Mish was with his late wife Joanne and on a different platform. Maybe 20 years? I just find the microscopic focus on Trump boring. I don’t particularly like Trump so I’d rather not have to read about him everyday. I’m sure Trump likes it though. He likes being the centre of attention.

Trump is doing so much that is contra his election promises that it’s affecting our country. Him and his family are bigger grifters that the Bidens! Both political parties are incapable of running the country. They are both corrupt and anti-Constitution. Trump campaigned on common sense legislation. He’s a crook and scammer. Mish is doing a great job exposing this charlatan.

Trump is the most impactful individual in recent world history, particularly in the last 6 months. He has broken all sorts of norms and boundaries to reach across institutions and the planet, and gum things up. War. Prices. Regulation in all spheres. Federal agencies. Colleges. Law firms. US border and immigration. Disbursement of federal funds. The welfare state. Environment. Financial markets. Hiring practices. Reflecting ponds. Nothing, almost, has been left untouched.

So help us out. Name some of these issues that do not deserve a mention of Trump’s actions. Do tell.

Let’s call it the presidential blotter. And we’ll use a code name like Taco. That way no one will know who Mish is talking about. Sounds like you’ve gotten bored with all the corruption. EXACTLY what Trump wants. A few weeks ago the sons, when questioned about the optics of their dealings, said the insinuations that their ventures could be corrupt, had the audacity to reply that the constant accusations were, “getting a little old”. Is this where we are now? No one cares? You’re not angry? I think if you dig deeper you’ll understand ALL roads lead to corruption. His life centers around power, money, and ego. These have led to tariffs, wars, murder, destroying the executive branch, weaponizing the justice dept, pardoning people who’ve committed serious crimes, robbing taxpayers, lost faith from our allies, on & on. These ARE the most important issues of the day. They affect everyday life for everyone on the home front.

Now Trump can be the most corrupt President in the history of the United States, and MAGA thinks its okay because Biden started it. Genius really. Of the evil type sure, but still genius. How to make billions off the dumbest voters in American history.

Trump traded luxury real estate with very interesting people from very interesting places. Those trades have long been exempt from banking-style “know your customer” anti-money laundering regulations. You could drive an aircraft carrier full of money in here, sink it in real estate, then borrow against that via the legit banking system, with identity-washed entities. Presto, piles of cash in the USA with legitimacy certificates. Trump has been very involved in the fight over closing that real estate loophole, in both of his administrations. To this day, the USA functions effectively as a haven for some types of global capital flight. Casinos, too, are notorious for this sort of stuff.
Trump has pardoned, and his family done business with, figures involved in international crypto hijinks very much in this sort of wheelhouse too. Certain crypto operations offshore were engaging with very scary people and entities, from a national security standpoint. Reuters ran some articles a few years ago that made my hair stand on end.

Off your topic but it reminded me of an article I read awhile back. Why do stocks keep going up no matter what? The root cause: tax cuts, but not necessarily how you think. Tax cuts jack up the budget deficit. The budget deficit requires roughly equivalent, but a slightly lower trade deficit. The budget deficit finances the trade deficit, with now a couple of $trillion flowing overseas. That money ends up coming back into the US purchasing stocks, bonds, and real estate. Driving up stocks, down bond yields, and increasing real estate prices. This benefits the ultra-wealthy (of the world, not just the US) immensely as it is just free money, and every year’s deficit just adds more. The fact that it puts downward pressure on the standard of living of non-wealthy Americans is a bonus, it makes people more desperate and more willing to kowtow to their betters. Plus it gives the wealthy more capital with which to bribe Congress.

The real beauty of it is the middle class will always vote for it. Even if they know what I wrote above and in the long-term it is against their interests, they’ll still vote for it. People are just too selfish.

China Now Outranks the United States in Global Favorability. What Happened?

For the first time in nearly two decades, a new Pew Research survey shows China is viewed more favorably than the United States in most countries surveyed—but the findings say more about a decline in U.S. soft power than a Chinese surge.

If Trump can get away with raping little girls and bombing schoolchildren and hospitals, what makes you think that he will be held accountable for this?

Yes, Trump is a horrific person, but his enablers need to be prosecuted as well.

RICO anyone?

Israeli and U.S. aircraft take off in a massive wave for a bombing raid.

Then Iran bombs the bejeezus out of the runways and military bases where those planes eventually need to land.

They therefore can’t land, even if they complete their bombing runs.

So they either have to divert to other runways farther away (and less secure), or ditch their aircraft entirely, and walk home (or get rescued).
