House Cancels All But 4 Session Days
Bloomberg reports House Cancels Two September Session Weeks Ahead of Midterms
The House will no longer vote during the final two weeks of September as previously scheduled, sending lawmakers home early ahead of a competitive midterm election.
GOP leadership canceled the weeks of September 21 and September 28, which included eight voting days, per a notice from the office of Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.). After the Labor Day recess, the House will now only have four days in session before lawmakers go home for the remainder of the month and all of October.
“This Congress has done phenomenal work, and the members are jostling a lot of different priorities right now,” Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told reporters Thursday.
Lawmakers could reconvene if the Senate adopts a budget resolution that would clear the way for work on a party-line reconciliation bill that Republicans have talked about getting done before the midterms, the scheduling notice said.
There had been rising speculation that the House may cancel its votes, as Johnson has done in the face of logjams from an unruly conference or ongoing negotiations with the Senate. Leaders in both chambers had been receiving questions as to whether it was more productive to have members in Washington voting or at home campaigning in their districts.

Excellent News
This is excellent news: No SAVE Act, no budget reconciliation, no military spending, no farmer aid, no spending for anything.
I propose a Congressional vacation for the rest of the year.
There is a small chance the Senate agrees to something and Trump calls back Congress, but otherwise this is it, gratefully.

This sloppily-worded Reconciliation Contract just says House, not signed into law.
If it does not happen in September it won’t happen in October.
Even if it does happen in September, unless it is extremely narrow in scope, it has zero chance in the Senate. Even then, that’s a stretch.
Cancel Everything
Those of us tired of reckless Congressional spending are pleased with this turn of events.
I propose Speaker Mike Johnson cancel everything until next year when the 119th Congress starts on January 3.
That’s when all the Republican hypocrites will suddenly become fiscal conservatives again.
Democrats won’t get anything done either, except of course to make Trump’s life miserable with investigations and impeachments.
It will be a fun two years for writers.
