Dead Ducks Fuel More Reflection Pool Controversy, Investigation Underway

Trump’s reflection pool saga makes him a laughingstock again.

Multiple dead ducks

The Washington Post reports A dead duck was seen in the Reflecting Pool. Then two more were found nearby.

When the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool was replenished this month after a $14 million-plus renovation, ducks quickly took to the water. Tourists delighted at the sight of ducklings paddling through the pool.

But then, over the weekend: a disturbing discovery.

A duck carcass was photographed floating in the algae-filled water, days after the “American Flag Blue” paint began peeling off the bottom of the pool.

Then, two other dead ducks were found in a pond at Constitution Gardens on the National Mall — roughly 250 feet from the Reflecting Pool. City Wildlife, one of the lead animal rescue and rehabilitationgroups in the area, saida staffer collected their bodies Sunday and brought them to the organization’s facility.

Where the body of the dead duck taken from the Reflecting Pool ended up is unknown. Officials at the Interior Department did not answer questions about the duck that was seen in photographs shared widely on social media.

Linton said the veterinary staff at City Wildlife plans to conduct necropsies on the two dead ducks they have received and hope to have results as soon as this week.

Investigation Urged

The Center for Biological reports Investigation Urged After Ducks Found Dead at Trump’s Reflecting Pool

The Center for Biological Diversity today called on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to conduct an immediate investigation and enforce the Migratory Bird Treaty Act after multiple dead ducks were found near the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool following Trump’s $14 million renovation.

“Wasting taxpayer money turning the reflecting pool into a giant duck death trap just in time for America’s 250th birthday party is as Trump as it gets. Cruel, stupid and selfish,” said Tara Zuardo, a senior campaigner at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Instead of letting this administration’s bizarre boondoggle keep killing innocent ducks, I hope the Fish and Wildlife Service steps in to do its job and protect America’s wildlife.”

While the exact cause of the deaths is unknown, dumping hydrogen peroxide into the pool or peeling paint driven by the administration’s efforts to make the pool appear “American flag blue” are distinct possibilities. It’s also possible that the algal blooms, which can be toxic, following the Trump administration’s restoration efforts are to blame.

Open Letter to the Dead Duck

Please consider An Open Letter to the Dead Duck Seen Floating in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool by Jack Loftus

“A viral photograph of a dead duck floating in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has intensified scrutiny of the landmark’s recent $14 million renovation, fueling a mounting debate over water quality, chemical treatments, and alleged vandalism at the historic site.” — Newsweek

Dear Duck,

I am sorry this happened to you in a place designed to make people think about sacrifice in America.

You did not arrive to comment on algae blooms, haphazard chemical treatments, peeling paint, or whether a $14 million renovation should remain visibly renovated for longer than a few days. You were not trying to enter the national conversation. You were not making a point or, I assume, posting one to Bluesky.

You were simply there because ducks go where the water is. This is one of the nicer things about ducks. You have a practical theology. If there is water, enter it. If there is bread, inhale it. If there are small ducklings nearby, arrange yourself into a soft, vigilant flotilla and continue.

So, when I saw you floating there, I felt something rise up. Not just sadness. Recognition, maybe. Shame, certainly. The sense that humans have been making ducks pay attention to us for a very long time, and ducks, to their credit, have shown almost no interest in returning the favor.

We do not know what killed you. It would be folly to pretend otherwise. There has already been enough certainty poured into that pool. What I know is smaller: The water is green. The paint is failing. And somewhere, in all of it, you were floating very still in a place built for reflection.

Still, I hope that before the end, you had known better water. A pond, somewhere quiet, with swaying reeds. A patch of shade. A morning in which no one photographed you for clout or generated AI duck-slop for their LinkedIn hot take. I hope you had once lowered your head beneath the cool surface and come up with something ordinary and sufficient. I hope you had the simple duck pleasure of moving through water that was only water.

That is not much. But it may be more than we are currently prepared to offer.

Quack quack,
Jack

As per usual, Trump gave this no-bid contract to a Republican Donor.

And, as per usual, Trump blames his failure on others.

I cannot believe that Mish is actually writing about this retarded story. But then again, it’s on brand. At least 2/3s of the articles on this blog the last few years have been driven by Mish”s crippling fixation with Trump.. It’s amazing how seemingly intelligent people continue to let one man utterly dominate their headspace. Trump broke Mish.

Trump broke the GOP, not Mich. And he continues to break deals, break promises, and break the trust of the people. What are you doing about it??? Give such a man an inch and he will gladly take a mile. Perhaps read up on how the ego, narcissism, and tyranny of one man can destroy societies and economies.

Tulsi Gabbard released detailed information which documented how Anthony Fauci pushed gain-of-function research, covered it up while working with the CIA and other intelligence officials, and then lied about it to Congress. And much, much more on this massive crime by those who ruled us during the Faucian/BLM dystopia.

But the Mockingbird media instead cover this algae BS. Purposefully.

The Fauci story is just the tip of the iceberg.

Once you start connecting the dots, sooner or later you end up at the Swiss clockmakers.

I’m not saying they’re running the world.

I’m saying nobody has ever explained what they’re doing with all that time.

ya ya pools fauci yawn Meanwhile: According to China-watcher Tanner Greer, the Chinese Communist Party has decided that the future belongs to the nation with the best science and technology, and naturally, they want that country to be China. As a result, China has
the world’s most sensitive ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray detector, the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope, the world’s strongest steady-state magnetic field, the world’s fastest quantum computer by computational advantage, and the world’s most sensitive neutrino detector […and] the world’s largest primate medical research center.
China now graduates twice as many STEM PhDs as the US does, and it dominates citation metrics in all sorts of applied physics and chemistry fields. It is easy to waste your science funding and it’s easy to game citation metrics with junk papers—as we Americans know all too well. And it is hard to pull off a paradigm shift without a lot of intellectual freedom. But a decade or two from now, it’s going to be obvious which countries were pumping money into their scientific ecosystems, and which ones were cancelling grants by using CTRL-F on the word “diversity”.

Occasionally the MSM covers US endemic institutional corruption.

More than 450 alleged fraudsters — including 90 doctors and medical professionals — were busted for bilking at least $6.5 billion in fake Medicare and Medicaid claims, with one greedy nurse splashing her ill-gotten gains on an $865,000 Bulgari necklace, $594,000 Ferrari and a $4.6 million Philippines beach resort, authorities said. In total, Including alleged con artists who blew the taxpayer funds meant to help the poorest Americans on luxury cars, jewelry, mansions, fine art, an NFL box and a yacht cheekily named “Butt Nekkid.”

I did a calculation and it cost about $1M/acre. Wow! He first said it would take 1 week at $1.5M. He said there would be robot cleaners on the bottom, industrial grade! So you’re gonna have robots clean acres of bottom surface? What do they do with the filtered material? Replace filters at night? How much were the continuous maintenance costs going to be? How much manpower was that going to take? At 340,000 sqft that’s $3/sqft just for material! That’s why it was no bid. I think he just enjoys making shit up. It’s probably the highlight of his day. God knows he doesn’t want to bothered actually running the country.

According to Social Security Administration data analyzed by NOTUS, the name “Donald” dropped to its lowest popularity level ever in the U.S. in 2025. Despite Donald Trump returning to the presidency for a second term, fewer than 400 babies were given the name last year, ranking it 690th nationwide.

You obviously have never owned a pool. It’s not as easy as just dumping chlorine. Too much and it burns your lungs, not enough and you get algae blooms. Like all things in life, moderation is required to get the right balance.

Trump claimed vandals caused the damage so the contractor he selected (and has close ties with) can’t be held liable for the shitty job they did. I’d wager that Trump will give the exact same contractor the job of fixing damage for a few million more.
