Dr. Fauci’s Preposterous Lie “Attacks on Me are Attacks on Science”

Dr. Fauci attempts to defend himself on MSNBC. And MSNBC is seemingly pleased to cooperate to spread even more Fauci lies.

I picked up this story from a Greenwald Tweet.

Painfully Ridiculous Lie

What’s “painfully ridiculous” is Fauci’s claim, “Attacks on Me are Attacks on Science”.

Fauci is a proven liar. He has even admitted that fact. It matters not that he he lied (allegedly to preserve masks for healthcare workers).

What About Faucigate?

The Left and the Right portray a freedom of information lawsuit email chain involving Fauci as some sort of proof of Wuhan Lab theories and mask effectiveness.

Rand Paul Tweets

Bloomberg gets it correct ‘Faucigate’ Emails Prove Nothing About a Covid Lab Leak

Bloomberg’s claim is true. We still do not know. Nothing has been proven. But Bloomberg hits upon the key issue that few are even aware of (emphasis mine).

If Fauci owes the public an explanation for anything, it’s why he approved funding for research that potentially made viruses more dangerous — so-called gain of function research.

Though Fauci has been unofficially anointed America’s “top expert in infectious disease” by the press, his real job is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. In that capacity, he’s not above criticism. He’s approved funding of projects on viruses that other scientists have deemed too risky to be worth doing

These risky projects include several that Rutgers University biologist Richard Ebright calls gain of function research of concern — projects that have altered flu viruses to transmit between different hosts, for example, research on altering bat coronaviruses that was done in collaboration between U.S. researchers and those in China.

Ebright spent years warning people about gain of function research long before this pandemic broke out. Another scientist who worries about the danger of such experiments is Harvard epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch.

Gain of Function

“Gain of function” is a euphemism for “purposely making viruses more lethal.”

And research involving bats was done with collaboration between the US and China.

Questions of the Day

  • Why is there so little media coverage of gain of function?
  • What precisely was Fauci’s role in supporting such research?
  • In what ways did the US cooperate with China?
  • Did any of those ways include Wuhan?

“I Am Science”!

By saying “Attacks on Me are Attacks on Science,” he is effectively saying “I am Science“.

Excuse me for pointing out, science does not lie and never did. People lie, scientists lie, and charlatans lie.

Scientists may come to the wrong conclusions, but science does not lie.

Fauci is a proven liar and by effectively making the claim that he is science, not only is he a liar, but a proven charlatan as well.

Instead of repetitive focus on masks where opinions are already set in stone, I suggest  a deep dive into Fauci’s role and US cooperation with China in gain of function research to make coronaviruses more lethal.

It isn’t just Fauci.
There are 58 positive studies/trials on Ivermectin.
Satoshi Omura, Nobel Prize-winning discoverer of ivermectin, wrote in his team’s recent review paper that “the probability of this judgement on ivermectin’s superior clinical performance being false is estimated to be 1 in 4 trillion.”
The government of Goa India, decided to provide all adults with Ivermectin. The FDA warned Goa against using Ivermectin. There is no justification for the FDA to oppose the use of Ivermectin in Goa. Upon starting Ivermectin in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, cases/deaths dropped dramatically. For what agenda is the FDA opposing a drug that is saving people’s lives?

The emails with all the kibitzing in advance of the Feb 9 Lancet statement, how it will look, denying conflicts of interest, trying to appear independent are all rank evidence of a CONSPIRACY.
Whenever people start shouting about conspiracy theories, you know there is a conspiracy/coverup being concealed.
If people start saying the sky is falling or Baltimore is in Iowa, nobody feels any need to put down conspiracy ‘theories’.
By the way, even though there is little direct evidence either way and is unlikely ever to be.
Lab or zoonosis? (People forget that it could be an unengineered accident as well: the researchers could be the zoonosis vector, or the host to a recombinant virus, or a lab animal). The genome has many strong indications of being engineered — strong enough to require hard evidence to lay aside. You can always say something is theoretically possible, but that is not how we normally evaluate real world evidence. Sure, somebody could have suffered a spontaneous aorta rupture just when the mugger plunged the knife, but it was coincidence. When there are many lines of inquiry that defy a natural explanation and natural developments …

I tend to think that this collaboration with China had an intelligence community aspect to it….ie to keep track of what China was doing militarily with biological weapons. At face value, there is CLEARLY funding and subcontracting to go around bans in this type of research in the US. Was it for Fauci’s personal preference to see this type of research done, or was it to keep tabs on China. Or both? If I was literally ANY other country in the world, except for China or the US, I’d be up in arms about this and what was done to the world’s population. I can see Russia or the EU start sniffing around and throwing mud to see what sticks…..

OT The dollar is still trying to reverse. Lots of volatility in the USD…which I guess is not unexpected, since we are right on an important cusp. It’s weighing on the metals and we might have that one last down leg I was looking for last week…..down to 1850 or so. I still think that’s about it for downside, and I plan to ride out the bumps unless something changes radically.

Not only was Dr Fauci complicit in possibly creating covid and also covering up the most likely source of the pandemic as you noted, there are other risks out there he is ignoring. Several top notch scientists in the field are stating this whole vaccination program has not been very well thought out. The vaccine should have been limited to the high risk only. Trying to give this to the bulk of the population in the middle of this pandemic greatly increases the selection pressure on the virus to evade the vaccine making it both highly transmissable via the vaccinated and more deadly to the unvaccinated. There is also the risk it may completely evade the vaccine. Evidence is already potentially accruing as younger people are ending up in the hospitals in greater percentages in covid hotspots. Unfortunately big pharma with Dr Fauci whom are making bank on these vaccines are directing policy in the west.

@Doug78 opines….Endgame fourth quarter third down 60 yards to go and one minute on the clock….
Meanwhile in the liberal scare-rag that the Financial Times is…
…Has transmissibility increased?
In mid-May, the Delta variant of Covid-19 overtook the Alpha variant, first identified in Kent, to become the dominant strain of the virus in England.

Three-quarters of the nearly 14,000 viral genomes sequenced in England by the Wellcome Sanger Institute in the two weeks to May 29 were Delta.

Peter Openshaw, professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College London and a member of Nervtag, told the Financial Times the Delta variant’s “considerable competitive advantage” was “beyond doubt” despite the “exact degree” to which it increases transmissibility being “unclear”.

Hancock confirmed on Monday that the strain was at least 40 per cent more transmissible than the previously dominant Alpha variant.

“Higher infectivity means it could rip through unvaccinated populations if life returns to normal in a fortnight,” Openshaw said.

Oliver Johnson, director of the Institute for Statistical Science at Bristol university, said the “compound interest effect” from “each new generation of the virus” added to the “danger [from] further unlocking”.

At its current weekly growth rate of 50 per cent, there could be at least 10,000 cases a day by June 21, he said…..

All epidemics end sooner and later and widespread ones usually last about a year and Covid looks to be following the usual pattern. It runs out of people to infect because they are already resistant either naturally or by vaccination and a mutation that makes it more transmissible has little effect on the end result. Nevertheless media has to soak it for all it’s worth.

9000 out of 1.3 billion isn’t even a rounding error.  Most people aren’t able to grasp the magnitude of numbers or the relativity of numbers.  Better to talk in percentage terms, which would reduce your 9,000 number to .000692307% of the total population of India.  Not a very large number!

Cases in the UK are already at 5,000 a day so the FT says it will double by June 21 which is possible. I notice however that the death rate at seven per day has not followed the trend. We have a bump up in infections without a corresponding bump in deaths even taking in the lag period. Hospitalizations have not bumped up either. The data is saying that some people are getting sick but not enough to go to the hospital and that those who are hospitalized deaths from covid are very few and not trending upward by a significant amount. We are at the end period nibr.

We don’t know exactly what the origin of COVID was, nor are we likely to know, at least not beyond a shadow of a doubt. But Fauci, whom I tried to defend in the beginning, was clearly involved in an attempt to deliberately downplay the likelihood of a lab leak.
A cabal of powerful people in the scientific community (including Dr. Fauci)  tried to shape a narrative that served their own interests, and they had plenty of reasons to hope nobody questioned  them further. Gain-of-function research is technically illegal (I think), and there seems to be no question that was what was going on in Wuhan, because they (Dr. Zhengli) published several papers that are specific to that technique using coronaviruses. You can read the articles.
Gain-of-function genetic modification to increase the virulence of a known pathogen is playing with fire, period. We ought not be doing it, period.
Fauci is a liar, and a very arrogant old man who ought to be run out of town. The question remains about exactly who is culpable if there was a lab leak. Both the Americans  and the Chinese appear to have been involved, in both the research (we were apparently funding some of it with tax dollars) and in the cover-up.  There was a cover-up. Why did the Chinese destroy evidence and records? Why was Fauci so quick to point the finger away from the lab?  Why was Daszak tasked with getting a journal like the Lancet to  fudge the truth?
It all stinks to high heaven, and I’ve been saying that for way more than a year.

I agree, and as you mentioned in an earlier post it’s impossible to keep safe for ever, there will be leaks, just a question of when, despite how careful and secure you try to make it. Just as there have been nuclear leaks!
I don’t understand what the benefit of this type of research is, other than perhaps military. What’s so important that we have to risk thousands of lives doing it? Is it just to keep up with others? It’s crazy.

If a lethal virus ever mutated and made the jump to humans, the best way to get ready for that is gain of function. Viruses are gaining function whether we like it or not. We need to get ready to adapt quickly. We are fortunate to have mRNA vaccines.

Another great post Mish.  I’ve said for months that using masks for a virus is ridiculous for obvious reasons, apparently not so obvious to BS artist Fauci.  And how about Ivermectin?
If they would have used other drugs that have been shown to work, they would have not needed to “warp speed”, and so many deaths they have caused by not using Ivermectin and such. Oh, I forgot, they could not do “warp speed” if there were other drugs that would work…Hmmmm How many lives did our government Kill?  How much more money did these drug companies make with warp speed?

And yet, the science of masks is fairly well established, and has been for a long time. I don’t think anyone disputes any of these:
1. If a person has a respiratory virus, they spread it much less effectively when wearing a mask
2. Even an N95 mask does not block all virus particles, so they can not prevent the wearer from getting infected, however, a mask will somewhat reduce the size of the initial exposure
3. A smaller initial dose of a virus generally leads to a milder case
For most viruses, symptoms appear at the same time of peak contagiousness, so there is no reason to request non-symptomatic persons to wear a mask. With most viruses, the difference in severity caused by a somewhat smaller does is small, so there is no reason for the general population to wear a mask for protection. For Covid, it had two unusual characteristics. First, it reached peak contagiousness before the onset of symptoms. Second, since it shuts down parts of your immune system, the difference made by a larger initial dose was much larger than with other respiratory viruses. Both of those were differences that tilted the science in favor of masks. It also had a third difference, that the R0 was much, much higher than the flu, and as a result it was so contagious that once it escaped to the wild, it was not going to be contained, which made masks somewhat futile.

Facemasks in the COVID-19 era: A health hypothesis
Author: Baruch Vainshelboim
Cardiology Division, Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System/Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, United States
Abstract
Many countries across the globe utilized medical and non-medical facemasks as non-pharmaceutical intervention for reducing the transmission and infectivity of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Although, scientific evidence supporting facemasks’ efficacy is lacking, adverse physiological, psychological and health effects are established. Is has been hypothesized that facemasks have compromised safety and efficacy profile and should be avoided from use. The current article comprehensively summarizes scientific evidences with respect to wearing facemasks in the COVID-19 era, providing prosper information for public health and decisions making.

The surgical masks people wear are meant to prevent a doctor from sneezing and spraying the insides of a patient with phlem. They aren’t meant to filter viruses. You need something that completely blocks air flow and forces air through a filter. Something like a P100 mask. The mask most wear aren’t virus filters, they’re virus nozzles. They cause air to shoot out faster than it would otherwise. Wearing 2 masks makes it worse.

The point of the masks were the same as why doctors wear masks, to prevent people from sneezing or coughing, and spraying virus particles long distances. Only sick people needed to wear masks, but since people were contagious a day or two before the onset of symptoms, the only way to make sure all sick people had masks was to make everyone wear them.  I did double mask a few times as an experiment: A vented N95 mask, which I had on hand for allergies, to provide some protection for me, and a surgical mask, to cover the vent and protect others from me.
Regardless of what you think of masks, it’s clear that the mask mandates were the one thing that clearly did work in practice, with death rates falling in places that instituted them.  Was it because the masks blocked viruses from leaving sick people? Was it because wearers got a smaller dose, and thus a more mild case? Was it because mask reminded people to social distance? I can’t answer that, but the evidence that they worked is strong. I know that, as an example, in my state, my city was one of the few places that had a mask mandate and we had the lowest death rate or any of the cities in the state, and a death rate half the rest of the state, and 1/3 of the national average.

The Question of Masks
Jenin Younes
– January 26, 2021
I envy the reader who can reach the end of Alex Berenson’s Unreported Truths About Covid-19 and Lockdowns: Masks <https://www.amazon.com/Unreported-Truths-about-COVID-19-Lockdowns-ebook/dp/B089P216NP>, without tearing her hair out in frustration at the absurdity of the world today, which apparently is not so different from the one that Galileo inhabited four centuries ago.
Berenson makes an airtight case (no pun intended) that there is no evidence whatsoever that surgical and cloth masks work to control coronavirus spread, and a substantial amount that they do not. Nevertheless, as anyone who has tried to discuss the topic in a blue state knows, the subject has been so politicized <https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2020/10/29/both-republicans-and-democrats-cite-masks-as-a-negative-effect-of-covid-19-but-for-very-different-reasons/> that to make this contention amounts to heresy.

It was all great to discuss mask theory a year ago, and to speculate on what impact they would have. Some argued that they would help, others they wouldn’t.  Both had good reasons.  It’s way past time for that debate, however. The pandemic is over. Now we can go back and look at what worked.  Pretty much the only thing that worked was masks. The business shutdowns were useless, as were a host of of things. Thankfully, where I live, we did it exactly right. Businesses were not shut down. People could go anywhere they wanted, and do anything they wanted, and businesses were open. The only requirement was masks indoors. Our economy coming out of the pandemic is the strongest in the country, and our death rate here was about 500/million, under a third of the national average.

Some of the attacks on Fauci have been ridiculous. However some of Fauci’s statements appear to have been misleading, including some denying gain of function research. We need a complete investigation because this investigation and trial by politicians on Twitter and other media is also misleading. We just need to get the facts and a timeline. There is no doubt that Facui supported gain of function research because there is a article that he wrote in the Journal of the American Society of Microbiology October 2012 (I can’t find a link anymore) stating the pause in this research should be eliminated.  It is also very common for the United States to fund research all over the world including the type of research done at Wuhan.  The research most likely would have been done anyway by China but by funding it the US gets a chance to at least see the results. I don’t blame Fauci even if he supported gain of function research but it is most likely that he was wrong in that belief and should admit that because it is becoming increasing most likely that the coronavirus escaped from the Wuhan lab. However it is wrong to try to cover the support up.

It’s a recipe for causing a pandemic, if the labs are not very rigorously controlled. And  guess what? It’s within the realm of probability that it just happened.
The Chinese have had several lab leaks in the past. It isn’t even a new problem. Now they have plans to build a number of new labs like the one in Wuhan. What could possibly go wrong. How about we do gain-of-function research on say, smallpox?  Maybe on polio?
The US government called a moratorium on GOF  from 2014-2017 and NIH quit funding it. In 2017 they reversed that decision, based on assurances from Fauci and others like him.
