Government Shutdown Averted

The Congressional bluffing game has been postponed until December as Bill Averting Government Shutdown Signed Into Law.

President Biden signed a bill Thursday evening extending government funding through Dec. 3, averting a partial shutdown hours before current funding expires at midnight.

The bill passed both the House and Senate with bipartisan support earlier in the day. The legislation, which also includes $28.6 billion in emergency disaster aid and $6.3 billion to help resettle Afghan evacuees, passed 65-35 in the Senate, and 254 to 175 a few hours later in the House.

Pause in the Clown Show

Democrats blinked, as expected in this corner. They uncoupled the debt ceiling at the insistence of Republicans.

But all we really have is a pause in the clown show. It will resume in in another month nor so.

December is a good month to get this taken care of. They vote and then go on vacation for a month and when they get back everything is forgotten.

Yellen favors eliminating the debt ceiling. This is effectively how Japan operates. As I’ve said repeatedly, the US continues to go down the path of Japan. It was all a farce anyway. The concept of selling some fantasy IOUs that arent worth the electronic paper they are created with is just keeping up appearances. Prepare for the collapse of global economic system as we know it.

We go through this every budget cycle.  So tiring because we know the outcome will always be the same – The debt limit continuously gets increased.  So what is the purpose?

Circus for the masses, while the same masses get robbed of all they have to work ever harder for.
No different from any other undertaking of government.

The purpose is the bills passed at each iteration of breaching the debt ceiling are loaded with riders (all pork) that are added by legislators in trade for their yes vote on raising the debt ceiling. IOW, each bill raising the debt ceiling are held hostage until the pork-a-thon is complete. It’s not just the debt ceiling related bills either; every bill that goes through congress that is considered important has the same MO. Follow the money…

Totally agree. They need to make it illegal to attach riders on increasing the debt ceiling or anything funding the government in general.
