How Did DOGE Government Job Firings Impact the Jobs Report?

Let’s investigate government jobs, manufacturing, and changes by sector.

Government jobs month-over-month change

Government Jobs October Change

  • All: -157,000
  • State: -12,000
  • Local: +17,000
  • Federal: -162,000

Q: What Happened?
A: Nine months ago, led by the now disbanded DOGE, the administration fired tens of thousands of workers.

However, they were paid to do nothing until September. So, they were considered employed.

This is a mostly a one-time change as evidenced by the small Federal change in November of -6,000.

In October, total nonfarm payrolls was -105,000.

Given Government jobs declined by 157,000, private sector jobs expanded by 52,000 in October (assuming you believe the data).

November Change in Jobs by Sector

  • Total Nonfarm: +64,000
  • Manufacturing: -5,000
  • Construction: 28,000

  • Private Education and Health: 65,000
  • Professional and Business Services: 12,000

  • Private Education and Health: 180,000
  • Total nonfarm: 67,000
  • Construction: 48,000
  • Leisure and Hospitality: 46,000

Private Education and Health is demographics related. Construction reflects power and data center builds.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing payrolls month-over-month change

Manufacturing gained jobs in only 2 of the last 12 months, with one month unchanged.

All of this is OK because Trump says this is the greatest economy ever.

December 4, 2025: Challenger Reports Employers Announced 71,321 Job Cuts in November

Announcements imply future, not immediate, layoffs and unemployment claims.

Unlike large employers, small businesses have fewer means of tariff avoidance and less ability to hold inventory or eat the tariffs.

December 5, 2025: Revelio Says Payrolls Decline by 9,000 the 5th Drop in 7 Months

We don’t have BLS reports but we do have ADP and Revelio.

December 11, 2025: How Fast is the US Shedding Foreign-Worker Jobs?

Think carefully.

Please read that last link. It’s an unbiased assessment that vastly differs from other reports on what’s happening with US and foreign workers.

Finally, please note President Trump Promised a Manufacturing Boom. Where Is It?

The answer is China.

The irony of the construction industry and the backlog of data centers is: by the time people are willing to work construction, many of the data center projects will be cancelled. Poof. Gone.

And the chipsets will be obsolete and replaced with chips that use afar less power.

Investment in new power plants is not remotely ramping up to fulfill the vaporware data centers.

According to this post by the director of OPM the Federal government shed 249,000 jobs so far this year.

“…We exceeded this goal – the government hired roughly 68,000 people this year, while approximately 317,000 employees left the government…”

Mish,

They were not fired. They voluntarily resigned their positions around February or March through a deferred resignation program (DRP) and were paid full salary and benefits through the end of the fiscal year (30 Sep). This was the government-wide DRP. Some agencies and departments then chose to do their own similar but slightly different DRP, and a second wave of employees resigned around May In exchange for full salary and benefits through 30 Sep.

Which film was it? Monte Python and the Holy Grail.” ??

“It’s just a flesh wound” after the swordsman hacks off an arm.

This is what Trump does. WE ALL KNOW IT and yet he still TRIES to fake it!

I am concerned with doge downloading everyones gov info. How easy would it be for big balls and the move fast and break things gang to sift all that info in to musk ai computer.
Think of the potential use. Mass targeting of perceived enemies of the government. to election gerreymendering and targeted adds etc.

Yawn. Doom porn. There have already been multiple data breaches of OPM and Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program in the last 10 years. This isn’t how mass surveillance comes to America.

I just assumed that ALL those govt databases were fed into xAI and Palantir. None of that stuff is available to companies, so it is extremely valuable training data.

They were already doing that sort of thing under prior administrations. Debanking. IRS audits targeted at opponents. Declaring concerned Moms advocating for better schools to be “domestic terrorists”. None of this is even remotely new.

I think what you meant to advocate is that the government shouldn’t be doing so many non-Constitutional things that it ends up getting so much access to everyone’s private data. Too much power in too few hands invariably drives corruption and abuse.
