- Rep. Keith Self (R., Texas) voted for Byron Donalds (R. Fla.)
Rep. Ralph Norman vote evoked gasps in the chamber, so that was an unexpected loss.
Two other reps withheld their vote then given a second chance voted for Johnson. It is unclear how they will vote in subsequent rounds.
Johnson can afford to lose no more than one vote.

Unfortunately, the Democrats probably won’t end up playing the same game as the Republicans. If they were smart for the long run, the Democrats would vote against absolutely everything the Republican House put forward (on their own legitimate grounds that taxes were being lowered for the rich, SS was being cut, etc.). Then whatever was actually passed within the House by Republicans would be completely on them (instead of 99%). But corralling all those different Republican cats in the House to actually get a consensus vote would end up with some crazy outcomes the public could see for themselves
