Proposal of the Day: Devastating War on Iran is Needed to Prevent War

We need war to prevent war say Trump’s former vice president Mike Pence, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. They propose a “devastating attack” to stop war.

Washington and Baghdad face a dilemma over how to deal with Iranian-backed militias.

Devastating Strike On Iran

Pence and Pompeo say It’s Time to Strike Back at Iran.

Over the past three years, President Biden’s diplomats have repeatedly made overtures and concessions to Iran, which has only emboldened the regime’s aggressive behavior. The Biden administration rolled back the Trump administration’s maximum-pressure strategy, agreed to a $6 billion ransom payment for five American hostages, allowed Iran to export more oil to China than ever, and removed the Houthis’ terrorist designation. Worse, the Biden administration has continued trying to revive the Iran nuclear deal, which would put Tehran back on the fast track to obtaining nuclear weapons.

The result of this appeasement is war, beginning Oct. 7 with Hamas’s atrocities against Israel. In the four months since, the Biden administration has continued to resort to appeasement by declining to respond forcefully to Iran’s escalation and attacks.

No one wants war; every decent person despises it. Our first step should be to respond to Iran’s deadly attacks with devastating strikes: not only to end Tehran’s escalation and keep American soldiers safe, but to begin re-establishing the model of deterrence that keeps war at bay. The U.S. military must destroy high-value Iranian targets, including Tehran’s nuclear program, navy and oil infrastructure.

Facts of the Matter

  • Trump unilaterally scrapped a deal with Iran that all of our allies and our own defense department said was working. As a result, Iran restarted work on a bomb. Details below.
  • The US has made a mess in Iraq (which now threatens to boot US troops), Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and Ukraine.
  • Going back further, recall Vietnam, and further still when a US-sponsored coup toppled a democratically elected government in Iran.
  • In 2014, US meddling in Ukraine, led by Senator John McCain, played a huge roll in the war.
  • In 2020, Trump illegally assassinated Qasem Soleimani, Iran’s military leader, while on a peace mission in Iraq. President Trump renewed threats to hit back at Iran “VERY FAST AND VERY HARD” in the event of further strikes targeting Americans or U.S. assets.
  • Warmonger fools like senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) piled on, pressuring Trump to ‘Crush Iranian Economy’ By Targeting Oil Refineries After Assassination
  • Left Wing “Liberal Media” cheered the assassinations. The list includes CNN, NBC, the WSJ, CNBC, and USA Today.
  • If Iran mistrusts us, they have ample reason. Who can logically blame Iran for wanting a nuclear bomb?

Results of US Meddling

  • The US lost the war in Vietnam.
  • The US lost the war in Afghanistan.
  • The US “won” the war in Iraq, but installed a puppet government that now threatens to boot US troops. Winning the war in Iraq led to the formation of ISIS which former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair (who was our coalition partner), now admits.
  • After taking out Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi, an action then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton bragged about, Libya descended into chaos, taken over by ISIS. Hillary Clinton bragged on tape “We Came, He Saw, He Died.
  • The US has troops in Syria, illegally, and that is what prompted the strike at US troops on the border of Syria and Jordan. As a result of illegally having troops where they do not belong, three US servicemen were killed. Now we allegedly need “devastating” war to prevent war.
  • Hussein was a secular leader. His only rule was don’t mess with Hussein. There was freedom of religion in Iraq before, not now. Pockets of ISIS still exist in Iraq. ISIS did not exist until the US further destabilized the region with a stupid war.

Trump’s Top General Says Iran Honoring Nuke Deal

Flashback, September 26, 2017: Foreign Policy reports Trump’s Top General Says Iran Honoring Nuke Deal

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Tuesday joined other members of President Donald Trump’s cabinet in confirming that Iran is complying with the 2015 nuclear deal that has put a temporary halt to its nuclear weapons program.

The briefings I have received indicate that Iran is adhering to its JCPOA obligations,” Gen. Joseph Dunford wrote in answers to questions in advance of his hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, using an acronym for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

April 19, 2019: IAEA Says Iran Abiding by Nuclear Deal

“Iran is implementing its nuclear commitments,” said Yukiya Amano, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The agency has had access to “all the sites and locations in Iran which it needed to visit.”

Iran Honoring the Deal

  1. US State Department: Iran honoring the terms.
  2. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: Iran honoring the terms.
  3. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA): Iran honoring the terms.
  4. Arms Control Association: Iran honoring the terms.
  5. All US European allies: Iran honoring the terms.
  6. Every other signee of the accord: Iran honoring the terms.

Had Trump made the same deal with Iran, most of his supporters would have cheered it. But Trump always thinks he can negotiate a better deal.

Trump undid the single best accomplishment of the Obama administration, punished Iranian citizens for their leader, and took much needed oil supply off the market.

Iranian enrichment increased at a rapid pace after Trump walked out. So much for sanctions and the much over-ballyhooed “Art of the Deal”.

Underlying Issue

An underlying idea, too infrequently mentioned, Is US one-sided policy on Israel is a fundamental cause of all these Mideast blowups.

The US typically supports Israel no matter what it does. In the UN, the US vetoes any proposals or statements that Israel does not want to see.

Iraq Threatens to Expel US Troops

Yesterday, I noted Iraq Threatens to Expel US Troops Over Air Strikes on Baghdad

Think of it this way: The US is on the verge of driving Iraq, ruled by Hussein (a secular leader), right into the arms of Iran.

Idiot’s Proposal

Warmonger fools effectively propose “we need war to prevent war.” Countless articles on the WSJ support this view. Most of mainstream media is in on the action.

I have blasted Biden mercilessly for months, and deservingly so. But on foreign policy and on tariffs, Trump is no savior. Right and Left, we have made a big mess of things for decades.

The US wasted trillions of dollars better spent at home, and all we achieved is making more enemies. Is Iran the biggest terrorist nation or is the US?

Instead of bombing Iran, I suggest we step back and assess our own huge roll in this Mideast quagmire.

Voting “no” on sending more aid to Israel would be a welcome start.

Addendum

A reader who understands the situation well responds:

I wanted to add to your recitation of some of the US history with Iran

  • Iran was one of the first countries to express condolences to the US after 9/11. 9/11 was an Arab/Sunni enterprise not Persian/Shia.
  • Iran coordinated (back channel) with the US effort to remove the Taliban. They were their enemy too.
  • Rafsanjani, the reform president of Iran, sent out (backchannel again) peace feelers to the US.
  • Their reward was shortly thereafter to be named one of the “axis of evil” followed  quickly by a massive attack on one of the other members of the “axis” and the removal of its leadership.

DAMN RIGHT you want to have nuclear weapons to protect yourself. Have we touched North Korea? Gaddafi gave up his nuclear program and help identify how Pakistan was assisting countries in nuclear proliferation. His reward? Being sodomized with a broom handle, on his way to an unpleasant death when the US and Europe overthrew him.  Hillary Clinton, as you noted, found great cause for humor in all of this.

In spite of all of this Iran was our “strange bedfellows” ally in the fight against ISIS.

– We need more war to prevent war…

These idiotic proposals have been sloshing around for decades now:

– We need more taxes, because taxes are too high, and we still can’t collect enough.
– We need more workers, because the work isn’t getting done.
– We need more unions, because they help protect the workers, from work.
– We need more weapons, because we keep running out of the ones we have.
– We need more windmills, because the ones we have don’t seem to be working when the wind stops.
– We need more Solar Panels because the Sun doesn’t stay sunny for long enough, to fully charge the ones we have.
– We need more EV chargers, because they don’t sell because they need charging too often.
– We need to build more underground pipelines, because the ones we built get easily blown up.

Etc…

US misbehaviour and incompetence in international wars does not absolve those shitty regimes from being protected nor their reprobate leaders. All that emotive stuff as if there’s some notion of loyalty and betrayal is misguided commentry by Mish.

These bad, mad, sad countries do require crushing, and they are all better off under western colonialism than they ever have been under their own regimes. It might be unfashionable to say, but where do all refugees flee from and run to, and why?!

I’m opposed to any kind of US military strike or move on Iran, especially in a period and at a time when opposition to the bourgeois-clerical regime and its own military adventures is growing. A US attack would be detrimental to that popular momentum, and would be turned against those forces fighting against the murderous Iranian regime.

But your perception of the character and ambitions of the Iranian regime is so far from reality. Try reading “Germany and Iran” by Matthias Kuntzel or peruse his website http://www.matthiaskuentzel.de/contents/kategorie/english/?lang=en and inform yourself better on the historic influence of Nazi Party propaganda and Jew-hating in Iran and the Middle East generally. Maybe you’d get over your apparent hatred for Israel and stop blaming it for the situation in the ME.

One good reason to oppose it is simply that the west risks biting off more than it can chew in terms of numbers of conflicts in the world, and spread of stressed resources.

Looking at it from an economic POV, Iran is oil and gulf/red sea trade, that’s big…

I’m glad Pence and Pompeo are on the shelf and not in it.
Predominantly Islamic nations are not good at self government for obvious reasons.
Iran is a large and surprisingly diverse modern nation (as are we).
They are not well represented by their current government (as are we).
We are not at war with them.
We can and do reserve the right to strike down terrorist attackers wherever we find them.
This is not a desirable state of affairs, but it will have to do for the times we are in now.
I think Trump comprehends this. Not so much any other candidates at this point.
However, it is still only the presidency, but our president should represent us.
We are largely ruled by committee, which in our current state of corruption has become outright dangerous.

IDF has eradicated almost all Hamas power in Brooklyn sized Gaza, and once evacuating the over 1.5 million refugees from this last neighborhood to relative safety, will finish the job. That will be quite a scene. Memorable.
Offing only 30,000, this is amazingly efficient urban warfare and sets a new standard for anywhere else it becomes necessary.
The rebuilding will not cost nearly as much.

Jojo
Jojo

Reply to  steve

They can’t rebuild until all the terror tunnels are collapsed and filled in. Then there is the issue of lack of water. They needed 150 desalination plants prior to Oct 7th. Gaza has no real natural resources and little natural water. How do you build a state with no resources and no water? You can’t do it. The previous population of 2.5 million was far past the lands carrying capacity.

This is why Gaza should be totally depopulated. But the world’s powers have no idea what to do with 2.5 million Gazan REAL refugees. So the easiest solution is to put them back where they came from and keep the UN aid trucks rolling in daily. Problem solved.

Cut the crap. Trump can’t finish blabbering in 30 minutes much less end a War he contributed to encouraging Ukraine / Europe.
I an an Independent so I don’t give two figs about either the Dems or the Reps.
Be VERY clear…Putin and the Russians in general only know imperialist expansion / communist expansion for HUNDREDS of years. They have been INVADING their Neighbors for HUNDREDS of Years. Except for a few decades starting in the 80’s / 90’s they have ALWAYS been about conquering or controlling.
There is ONE person to blame for the current WAR in Ukraine and that is Putin. He foolishly believes he’s Peter the Great. He’s NOT and clearly the Russian military has become a second / third class military that really can only throw numbers at a problem.
The US can Arm Ukraine with actual up to date weapons, instead of most of the old crap the US has sent to date.
The Russians will eventually Fail, just like they did in Afghanistan in the 80’s.
Otherwise they eventually Invade Poland, the Baltic States and possibly Germany, if they can ever get that far. At that point there WILL be US troops on the ground or in the air, instead of just shipping artillery shells, missiles and tanks/ armored vehicles.
The US doesn’t survive by itself, we learned that in WW2, even though idiots tried to ignore / discount the Third Reich / Nazis and Japanese atrocities for way too long.
BOOM Pearl Harbor.

This is as clear as History repeating itself, if the Russians / Putin are not stopped in Ukraine.
Finland knows that, Sweden knows that, Poland knows that. Romania and Moldova knows that.
Everyone in Eastern Europe knows the BRUTAL oppression they went through not that many years ago.
Cut the crap. Only Russia can withdraw. And the only way they do is that they take too much pain to keep going.
Putin couldn’t care less about the people he’s sending to die, if he can capture Ukraine OIL and Gas Reserves. Money in his pockets.

The Empire is expansionist. From 13 states to across the North American continent, even going to war with Mexico to gain New Mexico, Arizona and California. Winning control of The Philippines after another war. In the 1800’s, the U.S. military forced the hermit kingdoms of Japan and Korea, to allow U.S. businesses to trade with them. Humiliated, Japan’s ruler decided they were going to modernize their military, which eventually allowed them to take over Korea in 1910, then set their sights on China, and with a modern navy and air force, eventually Pearl Harbor, which was its own kingdom until the U.S. took that over, removing the king.

Of coarse none of that includes how the first Americans were treated as the Empire expanded across the continent.

History is rather dirty and none have clean hands.

Sometimes you need to make a point with people/countries who don’t pay attention to previous warnings to not do certain things. With people, you punch them in the nose. With countries like Iran or NK, you hit certain strategic points in their country and then invite them to make the next move.

As to Who can logically blame Iran for wanting a nuclear bomb?”, I say, go ahead and make the bomb if it makes you feel any good.

But you will have zero chance to actually use it before your whole country gets preemptively eliminated if we suspect that you might actually try to use such a weapon.

If say that suitcase bomb went off at the Hoover dam and destroyed it, it would essentially wipe out the water supply for 20 million Americans, cause massive down stream flooding into populated areas and take offline a significant amount of power generation.

Or imagine one went off next to say a nuclear power plant causing all it’s reactors to go into meltdown mode like another Chernobyl.

Breathtakingly stupid…. no wait, outright delusional. If they can’t defeat Hamas, Hezbollah or the Houthis, how could they defeat Iran? If they could run out of missiles against China in two weeks ( estimate), how do they defeat Iran?

So, they bomb Iran and then get a disaster in the Persian Gulf of missiles and mines and speed boats and $150 a barrel oil. Also, Hezbollah and Iran may have enough missiles to level half of Israel. When do these warmongers ever admit that the US is not omnipotent?

Or, in the case of Kristol and perhaps a few others: Relative lightweights, but with all of whatever brains they do have, concentrated on the language end of things, enabling them to build impressive facades for what is ultimately hollow arguments.

Not very different from currently popular “AI” language models, come to think of it…..

Strauss himself was not at all a lightweight. But he would also likely fit in better in Qom, than in GW era DC.

Or is it the case that they really don’t care care at all about the US and its people but are keen on exploiting the US for Israel’s benefit.

Iran could have many nukes after the deal with Obama expired. Obama spanked Maidan for the Banderas. Gaddafi was Hillary punching bag. UK loaded on him the Lockerbie crash, bc his mama was Jewish (relatives in Israel). Justice was done by the invisible swamp. Madam Albright bombed Serbia, bc a Serb saved her life when she was a little girl during the Nazi regime. General Suleimani was the architect of the Iranian empire. He was a gift to Trump. Biden cut our losses in Afghanistan, but stayed focused in Syria and Iraq to stabilize the ME. Israel might absorb 2.4 million Palestinians in one state if Bibi can eliminate little Hitler hiding in his dungeons with his dragons.

You missed a risk. In the next very few years several more states will build nuclear bombs having seen that a state that voluntarily had given them up, has been invaded by a nuclear-armed neighbor. A few more will be in Europe, and Japan, South Korea and Taiwan will join the nuclear club. They already have the tech and the nuclear material and can do it in a couple of weeks.

Israel might absorb the west bank Palestinians, before absorbing 2.4 million Palestinians from Gaza, as full citizens in one little state, the United Holy land, that respects Judaism, Islam and Christianity and all citizens rights. It can be done only after eliminating Hamas the Nazi regime in Gaza. It will take decades. If it can’t be done the 3 whore states might use nukes to eliminate each other and its neighbors in the ME.

Interesting scenario. I don’t know what the Israelis are planning to do with Gaza or the West Bank but the existing situation is unsustainable. They know that.

Israel has no intention of allowing Muslims, or Christians, to occupy Judea. It is the god given land and all non believers must be expunged.

And the extent of ‘Israel’ is quite a bit bigger than current Israel

IMHO, the more countries that have nuclear weapons the better.

If nuclear is truly the deterrence people believe it is, then there will be far fewer invasion of country X by country Y (including regime changes) and an overall need for fewer and smaller armed forces.

The idea that nuclear weapons would allow smaller armed forces was prevalent in the 1950’s. Unfortunately, it also meant that the tripwire to using nuclear weapons would be much lower so paradoxically to ensure that you won’t have to go nuclear you have to still have a large army as before.

Keep your eye on the Neocon’s prize – Russia and its vast natural resources, which was tried 23 years ago (https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/products_services/promo/the-plot-to-seize-russia-ebook-now-available/).

Messing with Iran is only to get Russia to respond.

Russias human capital alone dwarfs the Wests moronathon. Look at their weapons systems? Why can their fighter jet hover in the air and their hypersonics cannot be stopped?
I’ve worked exclusively with phd tier IT developers in Belarus for 8 almost years. The west is an intellectual joke by comparison.

The west is suffocating on TV brainwashed uneducated freaks – we are way WAY BEHIND. We will never catch up – we’ve been lapped and they know it.

IMO the problem is the retards in America believe the lies they tell themselves about who they are. A nation of downies who think they are intellectually and psychologically normal. Not smart – not kind – pretty toxic.

We are all living in a lie here in the west, a simulation of reality where almost everything you think is real or true is a fabrication designed to deprive you of your humanity. That’s why everyone is on psych drugs. The imposition of falsities corrodes our sense of self. Psych drugs keeps the remnants teetering but not collapsing.

no one likes to hear this but it’s true.

The west has already stolen everything from everywhere. Now the rapacious blood sucking beast grows weak and desperately needs to bulk up with more thieving.

The catch end of a Seine net is not filled with fish it’s filled with cash. Russian Resources are just mountains of cash the colonial empire needs to loot in order to last another 50 years. Without Venezuela’s & Irans Oil and Russia’s massive resources educated humans, seafood, minerals energy, agriculture, fertilizers the west will accelerate into a withering state then implode all with a few years.

We live in the west like this because we made the brown people live like that. Favelas and shanty’s. The albino devils will blow up the world rather than face defeat – assuming they will rise again from the ashes.

Any leadership of a major country that tries to work cooperatively with the major powers other than the U.S. is generally assassinated or otherwise removed from power. This includes our own presidents.

In this case the west seems to be increasingly interested in starting another military crusade in the Middle East.

Yes because creating war to prevent war has worked out so well the past 70 years. But let’s keep trying the same failed policies over and over again. Sooner or later they’re going to yield positive results, right?

Phase out foreign aid, including weapons, to Israel and most sovereign panhandlers. Or is the only way to have allies to buy them? We need the money here as to continue to print unmercifully will exacerbate our own problems. The game has changed, and we need to face up to it.

One detail does not a policy make. You need more. Foreign aid is about $70 billion this year. Here is the detailed breakdown for 2023.

Evenhanded: Nonpartisan. Non biased. Don’t side with Israel every time a UN vote comes up on Israel whether they are right or wrong.

It doesn’t matter what I think. My thoughts on this topic and a cup of coffee at your local diner are worth about $3.00.

However, UN resolutions do matter in their perception in the rest of the world. The US was already losing “allies” in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, etc., due to its Pax Americana and Yankee Dollar hegemony. This latest iteration of siding with Israel every time is just adding another piece of straw on the camel’s back.

Yes, no one is perfect, therefore no country’s executive leadership is unbiased.

At the same time, when attempting to draw up a peace agreement between two adversaries, the arbiter has to be neutral otherwise their ruling, assessments, recommendations, will be viewed as tilted and will not be respected. When arbiter decisions are not respected there is no deal. This is why there has not been a US negotiated peace deal in the Middle East since Carter.

This is why China, however, was able to cut a deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The Iranian Theocracy is objectionable for a million reasons.

Strangely, the silly Iranian slogan has now turned out to be true.

America is the Great Satan.

But that is not right really.

The US Government is now the most significant locus of Evil on Earth. The US Government is the Great Satan, not America itself.

And that is really saying something when competing with the Putins and Xis and Mullahs of the world.

I agree with your assessment of the American government. But your perceptions of Iran is driven by said government’s propaganda. Before you launch a war in a Democracy, you need to get the populous on board by vilifying the other side. And AIPAC want a war with Iran and their tribes members control the US press.
