I watched a significant portion but not all of the Tucker Carlson interview of Putin. Partial transcript below.

Tucker 1:06: From the outside it seems this could evolve into something that brings the entire world into conflict and could initiate a nuclear launch. So why don’t you just call Biden and say let’s work this out?
Putin: What’s there to work out? Why would I call him? What should I talk to him about? You’re going to deliver such and such weapons to Ukraine. Oh, I’m afraid, please don’t. What is there to talk about?
Tucker: Do you think NATO is worried about this becoming a global war or a nuclear conflict?
Putin: At least that’s what they are talking about. And they are trying to intimidate their own population with an imaginary Russian threat. This is an obvious fact. And thinking people, not philistines, those who are engaged in real politics, just smart people, understand perfectly well that this is a fake. They are trying to fuel the Russian threat.
Tucker: The threat I think you are referring to is a Russian invasion of Poland, Latvia, expansion.
Putin: We have no interest in Poland, Latvia or anywhere else. Why would we do that [invade Poland]? We simply don’t have any interest. It’s just threat mongering.
Tucker: Well, the argument, and I know you know this, is, well he invaded Ukraine, he has territorial aims across the continent, and you are saying unequivocally you don’t.
Putin: It is absolutely out of the question. You don’t have to be any kind of analyst, it goes against common sense to get involved in some kind of global war. And a global war would bring all of humanity to the brink of destruction. It’s obvious. They have been scaring everyone with us, all along. Tomorrow Russia will use tactical nuclear weapons, tomorrow Russia will use that. No, the day after tomorrow. So what? In order to extort additional money from US taxpayers and European taxpayers in the confrontation with Russia.
Tucker: Chuck Schumer, said yesterday, that we have to continue funding the Ukrainian effort or US soldiers could wind up fighting there. How do you assess that?
Putin: This is a provocation, and a cheap provocation at that. I do not understand why American soldiers should fight in Ukraine. There are mercenaries from the United States there. The bigger number of mercenaries comes from Poland. Does the United States need this? What for? Thousands of miles away from your national territory. Don’t you have anything better to do? You have issues on the border, issues on migration, issues with the national debt, more than $33 trillion dollars. You have nothing better to do so you fight in Ukraine … realizing Russia will fight for its interests until the end.

That snip ends at the 1:11:39 mark. At roughly the 40 minute mark or so, Putin blasted Ukraine and the West for not honoring the Minsk agreement and agreements to keep Ukraine neutral and out of NATO.

Who Blew Up Nordstream?
Tucker askes that shortly after the 1:11:39 mark. It was the funniest portion of the interview.
Putin responded “You did”. That had me laughing. It may have been a prepared remark but it was a very clever one.
Putin went on to blame the CIA. Is that possible? All kinds of things are “possible” including Russia doing it, but most of what’s possible is not very plausible.
It makes no sense for Russia to blow up its own pipeline. And what we know about the boat with traces of explosives suggests Ukrainians or Russian dissidents did the deed. Did the US assist in any way is a possible question.
Later in the interview, Tucker tried to get Putin to release US journalists held by Russia.

This post will get me branded as a “Putin lover” simply for standing up for the right of journalists to do interviews.
The irony of the day is propagandists at the WSJ, CNN, the Atlantic, and the Guardian accuse Tucker of propaganda.
Worse yet, they want to silence him. Journalists now want to sanction other journalists because they disagree.
I encourage everyone to play the interview with a bit of an open mind on what Putin said that makes sense and what doesn’t.
The final verdict is the US should not have meddled in the first place, Ukraine violated the Minsk agreement, Zelensky pressed for entrance into NATO and the EU despite knowing NATO was a red line and despite US statements Ukraine would not be in NATO.
That does not justify what Putin did, but it explains it very well. Now Zelensky wants more money from the US and it will never end.
US meddling in Ukrainian affairs did not start in 2022 or 2014. It started in 1994 when US put heavy pressure on Ukraine to surrender nuclear weapons that Ukraine inherited from Soviet Union. And not only nuclear weapons. Russia is now firing cruise missiles into Ukraine that Ukraine surrendered to Russia back in 1994, 1997 and 1999. This was verified by serial numbers on missile remains.

Give Ukraine back cruise missiles, strategic bombers and nuclear warheads that US forced Ukraine to surrender. Exact numbers: cruise missile for cruise missile, strategic bomber for strategic bomber and nuclear warhead for nuclear warhead.
Then clearly state for both Ukraine and Russia that it is upon to them to reach agreement. Or not. US and “collective West” will not be involved any more in any way.

The US made Ukraine defenseless against Russia thanks to its meddling. It was Bill Clinton preparing way for Putin to walk into Ukraine uninterrupted. Should the US not feel responsible for this?
One thing you can be certain about: since a large portion of the USSR’s nuclear weaponry was actually designed and built in Ukraine, they probably would have known how to use them and Russia would never have dared to start the war.
Also, a question to the Second Amendment people: if it is necessary for the US citizens to be armed to defend themselves, how come other countries like Ukraine should not have any arms to defend themselves?

As anybody who has spent 2 minutes on the Ukraine conflict knows, both Minsk 1 and 2 were violated by both Russia and Ukraine repeatedly. But I assume what Mish really means is that Russia can do whatever it wants because Russia is more powerful.

Alex, GB and Poland had a defensive pact. When Hitler invaded Poland a British
expedition of 350,000 troops parked in France, facing the Rhine, doing nothing for almost a year, while two regional wars were raging in Europe. Stalin & Finland and Hitler & Poland. The British got upset. They ousted Neville Chamberlain. On May 10 1940 an aggressive media guy, a war monger, became the new PM. The Germans invaded the Netherlands, bombing civilians, forcing them to submission. They moved south. Dunkirk is seven miles from the Belgian border. Hitler let the British go.
On May 10 1940 WW II started. The situation in Europe was unsustainable until 1949/1950.
That period was called the Phony War or sometimes Sitzkrieg. Because of geography they couldn’t send troops and munitions to Poland but they could have attacked Germany’s western flank while its army was in Poland but they didn’t. They were still hoping for peace but it gave Germany time to finish conquering Poland, regroup and rearm before attacking western Europe. Grave error.
I can understand why Europe doesn’t want to go through that again so this time they will stop it at the source.
Signing a defensive pact with Poland was a mistake. Poland was not strong enough to stop the Germans. The USSR could, but they were communists. FDR didn’t care. He had communists running the white house, the war, the US dollar…the bomb !

Only a very small part of the German army was there. Hitler took a calculated risk that the allies would not move while the bulk of his army and its best units were in Poland.

German generals after the war said if the British and the French had invaded at that time they would have easily occupied the Ruhr and cut off Germany’s warmaking industries and Hiler would have been disposed. They didn’t and the victory gave Hitler a god-like reputation of a military genius among the population and military.
The French occupied the Ruhr in the twenties. The German gov ordered the miners to strike and not to extract coal and iron for the French, as reparations. The German gov printed money to pay the strikers. That started the German hyperinflation, not reparations. The hyperinflation led to Hitler beer hall putsch. He was sent to five years in prison.The trial led to his political exposure and his rise to power. The French, the British and the US cont the econ war against Germany throughout the twenties and the thirties. The French and the British probably didn’t invade bc they didn’t wanted to abuse the German people again, to stop their suffering.
Most claim it to be Sept. 1, 1939, when Hitler invaded Poland. The Finland invasion by Stalin was one of many sore points between Stalin and Hitler. Stalin’s aggressive moves toward Romania also was a sore spot since Hitler got oil from Romania and he didn’t want to see the Romanian oil fields fall into Stalin’s hands.
Based on what was known at the time, Chamberlain made a smart move. Czechoslovakia had treaties with the West (Great Britain & France) but also the Soviet Union. Had the West and the Soviet Union held to their guarantees, Germany would have fallen, then where would the world be? By the late 30s the Soviet Union had more planes and tanks than the world combined. Also, there were restive working class/communists in every European country, many loyal to Stalin. Many of them did nothing after their countries had fallen UNTIL Germany had invaded the Soviet Union. The Gulags were set up and the Holodomor had already killed millions; the Nazi extermination camps, not yet. We know what happened to the Baltic States occupied by Stalin for their own security in 1940. If the West and Soviet Union had preserved Czechoslovakia you would likely end up with a large Soviet military presence in the heart of Europe. A Stalinist takeover of Europe would have been dire. Germany had overcome the Spartacus Communist revolt less than 20 years ago. Nobody is blameless. The West sold out Czechoslovakia all while negotiating at the table with Hitler and without Czech leadership absent. Also, Poland and Hungary took what they could when Czechoslovakia fell. Slovakia became an ally of Nazi Germany. So Chamberlain’s play was to give Hitler what he wanted, put some disincentive for him to attack another pro-Western nation (Poland), and trust that he followed through on all his anti-communist sentiment. Stalin, aware of this play, negating their agreed protection of Czechoslovakia then cut a deal with the Nazis. Hitler’s ascent was tragic. However, Stalin’s ascent would have been tragic too.

From my perspective, there’s nothing in the interview that wasn’t already known or at least strongly suggested. The interview provided no evidence of who actually blew up Nordstream, but anyone with a brain can figure it out (looking at you U.S.). Same thing on the reasons for the war. Russia has been very clear about the reasons for thier invasion for a long time. As for the history lesson Putin gave, the nation started out as “Kievan Rus” which should give people a clue. So for me it was big nothing burger. Just another hyped up political event to keep the masses entertained….just my 2 cents.

What he believes in, or even just claims to believe in, takes on importance because of that. Regardless of whether some Ukrainian history professor is able to better support somewhat different readings regarding some of Putin’s talking points.

I avoid politics for the most part, unless I can see a way to personally profit from political decisions. Other than that, it is a waste of my time. I did not watch the interview. (I know: its shocking, isn’t it? What a fool!) But from the comments here, it probably went as I would have expected.
Full of lies, half truths, misinformation, misdirection etc. Because that is what politics is. Whether it is Putin, Biden, Trump, or any other politician. It doesn’t matter. Its all a game. Sadly, it’s a game with horribly dangerous consequences for millions or even billions of people caught in the political crossfire.

It’s no different than the pathetic “I’m a victim” crap the race and gender baiters pull. And even if you are correct that boomers are awful selfish people then explain how did they get that way and how did you, a product of them, turn out to be not selfish? I find it hard to believe that most from that generation were born with some defective gene that predisposed them to be selfish. Maybe it was thier upbringing or the culture at the time? What interest did Russia have in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Yugoslavia, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Albania in 1945, 1946, 1947, etc?
That is when they were a communist state wanting world revolution. Both FDR and Churchill cooperated with Stalin and signed off on these territorial gains in the Potsdam treaty. Anyone who has been paying attention to this since 2014 knows that what Putin said was correct. US led NATO has been the aggressor in this conflict and if roles were reversed the US would not tolerate it. Russian prisoners who are sent to fight in Ukraine are now being made to serve until the war ends instead of just for six months, the BBC reported.
Russia has sent tens of thousands of prisoners to fight in Ukraine since it launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Earlier prison recruits were sent for six months and, if they survived, were given full pardons.
But prisoners who sign up for the fight now are being warned that they will likely have to stay on the front lines until the end, according to the BBC.
They can only get a full release if they get a state decoration, become incapacitated, or reach the oldest age for serving in the military, the outlet reported. That, or the war ends.
Prisoners will also no longer get a full pardon, the BBC reported.

Large German minorities were intentionally placed in the newly created states of Czechoslovakia and Poland as a way to weaken Germany. Thus these new countries started to crack down on these population and gave Germany the justification for invading. It’s interesting that the deal that was offered to Poland was quite reasonable and would have still left huge German minorities in Poland. But alas, the Polish being Polish chose poorly. You are confused about historical facts. In 1939, Germany demanded from Poland control of Danzig AND a corridor connecting Germany to East Prussia. If you look at the map, there was no point in demanding a corridor to Danzig. In any case, Hitler wanted ultimately a war with Russia (Soviet Union), not Poland.
The difference: Hitler wrote down what he wanted to do long before in “Mein Kampf”, so everybody could know. I never heard about Putins “My Fight”.

The CCP has absolutely zero claim on Formosa, it belongs to it’s indigenous people, just like the Kingdom of Hawai’i does.. illegally invaded and illegally annexed by the USA. There was nothing in Tucker’s interview with President Putin that was new information to those of us who have studied Russia and President Putin for years (ignoring the mainstream propaganda based upon lies).
