Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski Defends Fed Chair Jerome Powell

Murkowski says Congress may need to investigate Trump’s Department of Justice.

Murkowski Accuses Administration of Coercion

“After speaking with Chair Powell this morning, it’s clear the administration’s investigation is nothing more than an attempt at coercion. If the Department of Justice believes an investigation into Chair Powell is warranted based on project cost overruns—which are not unusual—then Congress needs to investigate the Department of Justice. The stakes are too high to look the other way: if the Federal Reserve loses its independence, the stability of our markets and the broader economy will suffer. My colleague, Senator Tillis, is right in blocking any Federal Reserve nominees until this is resolved.”

Responses to Murkowski

I agree with all three.

Judiciary Committee Member Calls for Investigation of the DOJ

Unnecessary Distraction?

Well, OK. But it’s also absurd and arrogant stupidity.

Senator Tillis

Tillis: “If there were any remaining doubt whether advisers within the Trump Administration are actively pushing to end the independence of the Federal Reserve, there should now be none. It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question.    I will oppose the confirmation of any nominee for the Fed—including the upcoming Fed Chair vacancy—until this legal matter is fully resolved.”

Bill Pulte Seen as Key Instigator Behind Powell Subpoena

Bloomberg reports Bill Pulte Seen as Key Instigator Behind Powell Subpoena

Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte was a driving force behind the Trump administration’s decision to subpoena the Federal Reserve, according to people familiar with the matter, intensifying pressure on the central bank as President Donald Trump prepares to pick a new Fed chief.

Some of Trump’s allies were alarmed by the move, fearing a legal fight aimed at Fed Chair Jerome Powell will upset the bond market, some of the people said, requesting anonymity to discuss private talks within the administration. They are also concerned it will discourage Powell from leaving the Fed once his chairmanship ends in May. Powell can remain on as a Fed governor until 2028 and hasn’t yet said whether he intends to leave as is tradition.

Pulte submitted a criminal referral to the DOJ about Fed Governor Lisa Cook that is at the root of Trump’s push to fire her. The Supreme Court is set to take up the Cook case later this month.

A senior administration official said the DOJ, not Pulte, is behind the subpoena that relates to Powell’s congressional testimony about Fed building renovations. The investigation is being run by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, according to people familiar with the matter.

US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro signed off on the investigation into Powell, some of the people familiar with matter said.

In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Trump denied having any knowledge of the DOJ’s investigation into the central bank.

Senate Majority Leader Thune

Or what? Is the question.

If Powell’s term expires before Trump’s nomination is confirmed, then Powell or the VP of the Feral Reverse will be the interim President of the Feral Reverse. So as long as the Senate likes Powell better than Trump’s nomination, Powell will remain.

Trump wants $1.5 trillion for the Department of War? Otherwise known as The Department of Cost Over-Runs.

Example: The F 35 fighter program was originally supposed to cost $233 billion. It is now going to cost in excess of $2 trillion. Trump is not worried about a cost over-run exceeding $1.767 trillion but he is weaponizing the Justice Department to go after his own appointee because he doesn’t kiss his ass enough.

Pultie needs to be removed asap. Trump? What an embarrassment for our nation.

Well the guy seems broke these days…he’s so broke he has to bring in foreign workers

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/ar-AA1U4hGS
In October 2025, Trump’s Department of Labor enacted a rule changing how wages are calculated for some temporary foreign farmworkers on H-2A visas, lowering pay rates for certain jobs.
Two months later, the Trump Organization filed paperwork seeking approval to hire 36 foreign workers via H-2A visas for its Virginia winery from February through October 2026, saying it could not find enough U.S. workers and that hiring foreign labor would not hurt domestic wages or working conditions.

The federal reserve has no independence given it went along with Biden’s freezing Russia’s access to its foreign reserves which was potentially devastating to the US dollar. If investigation shows Powell did something wrong, say took kickbacks, should he be prosecuted or is there a two tiered system of justice (I already know there is).

I have no idea if Powell is guilty of profligately blowing a gazillion dollars on the new Fed temple, and unlike Trump, I see Powell as a typical Fed functionary rather than a villain for showing a smidgen of restraint (in terms of turning back on the printing presses).

But Lisa Murkowski and Tom Tillis are the prototypes for shills for the ruling class. They are corrupt Uniparty par excellence. Finding yourself in agreement with either of them should provoke you to reassess your premises.

Bottom line: Hive mind — Bad. Independent thought and action — Good.

Every representative in Congress should be making independent decsisions based on individual, critical thinking assesments, rather tham “teaming up”. There is always some sort of corruption at the root of “teaming up”.

This is all theatrics. Who ever heard of the Fed cutting rates and re-starting QE with the economy growing by 4.3%, the stock market at an all-time high and unemployment at just 4.4%? This would have been absolutely unthinkable at ANY time in the past. Thus, the plain fact is that the Fed is ALREADY acting as de facto fiscal agent of the US Treasury via its present “monetary policy”. Any name-calling/insults/threats hurled by Trump at Powell are pure theatrics designed to hide the true nature of this arrangement.

GDPnow says GDP is growing at a 5.1% clip, unemployment is supposedly at 4.4%, and according to ADP wage growth is currently 4.4% for job stayers, and has accelerated to 6.6% for job changers. Furthermore, as Mish has pointed out, PCE is about to explode higher due to healthcare inflation. Rates should be hiked, not cut.

Hiking rates does not help our spendthrift government to manage its astronomical debt burden. In fact, it does the opposite.

JUST THE FACTS MA’M.  THIS WAS VERY CONCISE AND TRUE.  POOR BASTARD ONLY FIGURED THIS OUT 19 YEARS AGO.   TRUMP is just the culmination of a very evil empire. perhaps our nero or caligula.

the concise summary of pax amerika:

I assume everything government says is false, either through incompetence or dishonesty

I somewhat started on that same journey 19 years ago when I learned the lies of how the USA gets into wars–Spanish/American War with the USS Maine, WW1 with the Lusitania and Germany pre-warning it would be sunk, WW2 with our 7 point plan to force Japan to declare war against us, Operation Northwoods, Vietnam with the Gulf of Tonkin, war on terror with babies taken out of incubators, 1993 attack on WTC, 2001 attack on WTC, WMDs, …never-ending lies. I fully got on board with that 11 years ago when I saw the lies were everywhere in .gov. Now I can’t believe anyone can believe anything they say. I don’t care how sweet the news is to my ears–if someone from .gov said it I assume it is a lie. Only Ron Paul was trusted by me.

As soon as you personalize a part of power, then sooner or very later will come a very popular man who will grab more and more power devolved to other parts of the state as small his initial powers were.

The roman republic was making sure supreme power was vested in at least 2 different leaders beside dictotoriship periods (which at the time wasn t associated with abuse). And while heads of state going at war between each other was the receipe for its downfall, it seems they will still keep the record of lasting +400 years compared to the Us, especially considering the albeit untrue arguments of the first emperors were to restore the republic.

The libertas was defined at that time as not being ruled by a Master (dominatio) or a king rather than free will.

Yes but when it did, the latin domination of the emperor was “Dominus Noster” and autocrator in the greek speaking regions The same words that designed the Master of a slave “our owner”. So that the idea of libertas as having no king or no Master completely shifted to peace and order instead centuries ago.

My point was how republics are far more fragile than the state themselves.
